Kaanraa, Fifth Mehl:
ਸਾਧ ਸਰਨਿ ਚਰਨ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
saadh saran charan chit laaeaa |
In the Sanctuary of the Holy, I focus my consciousness on the Lord's Feet.
ਸੁਪਨ ਕੀ ਬਾਤ ਸੁਨੀ ਪੇਖੀ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਨਾਮ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
supan kee baat sunee pekhee supanaa naam mantru satiguroo drirraaeaa |1| rahaau |
When I was dreaming, I heard and saw only dream-objects. The True Guru has implanted the Mantra of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, within me. ||1||Pause||
ਨਹ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਨੋ ਰਾਜ ਜੋਬਨਿ ਧਨਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਧਾਇਆ ॥
neh tripataano raaj joban dhan bahur bahur fir dhaaeaa |
Power, youth and wealth do not bring satisfaction; people chase after them again and again.
ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਸਭ ਬੁਝੀ ਹੈ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
sukh paaeaa trisanaa sabh bujhee hai saant paaee gun gaaeaa |1|
I have found peace and tranquility, and all my thirsty desires have been quenched, singing His Glorious Praises. ||1||
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਪਸੂ ਕੀ ਨਿਆਈ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਿਆਪਿਓ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
bin boojhe pasoo kee niaaee bhram mohi biaapio maaeaa |
Without understanding, they are like beasts, engrossed in doubt, emotional attachment and Maya.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਜਮ ਜੇਵਰੀ ਕਾਟੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੨॥੧੦॥
saadhasang jam jevaree kaattee naanak sehaj samaaeaa |2|10|
But in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, the noose of Death is cut, O Nanak, and one intuitively merges in celestial peace. ||2||10||

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਚਰਨ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਗਾਇ ॥
har ke charan hiradai gaae |
Sing of the Lord's Feet within your heart.
ਸੀਤਲਾ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਨਿਤ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
seetalaa sukh saant moorat simar simar nit dhiaae |1| rahaau |
Meditate, meditate in constant remembrance on God, the Embodiment of soothing peace and cooling tranquility. ||1||Pause||
ਸਗਲ ਆਸ ਹੋਤ ਪੂਰਨ ਕੋਟਿ ਜਨਮ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥
sagal aas hot pooran kott janam dukh jaae |1|
All your hopes shall be fulfilled, and the pain of millions of deaths and births shall be gone. ||1||
ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਅਨੇਕ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
pun daan anek kiriaa saadhoo sang samaae |
Immerse yourself in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, and you shall obtain the benefits of giving charitable gifts, and all sorts of good deeds.
ਤਾਪ ਸੰਤਾਪ ਮਿਟੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਾਹੁੜਿ ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਖਾਇ ॥੨॥੧੧॥
taap santaap mitte naanak baahurr kaal na khaae |2|11|
Sorrow and suffering shall be erased, O Nanak, and you shall never again be devoured by death. ||2||11||

ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਕਥੀਐ ਸੰਤਸੰਗਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
katheeai santasang prabh giaan |
Speak of God's Wisdom in the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation.
ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਪਾਈਐ ਮਾਨੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Meditating in remembrance on the Perfect Supreme Divine Light, the Transcendent Lord God, honor and glory are obtained. ||1||Pause||
ਆਵਤ ਜਾਤ ਰਹੇ ਸ੍ਰਮ ਨਾਸੇ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸਾਧੂ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
aavat jaat rahe sram naase simarat saadhoo sang |
One's comings and goings in reincarnation cease, and suffering is dispelled, meditating in remembrance in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਪਤਿਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਹੋਹਿ ਖਿਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਕੈ ਰੰਗਿ ॥੧॥
patit puneet hohi khin bheetar paarabraham kai rang |1|
Sinners are sanctified in an instant, in the love of the Supreme Lord God. ||1||
ਜੋ ਜੋ ਕਥੈ ਸੁਨੈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਤਾ ਕੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਸ ॥
jo jo kathai sunai har keeratan taa kee duramat naas |
Whoever speaks and listens to the Kirtan of the Lord's Praises is rid of evil-mindedness.
ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪਾਵੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਆਸ ॥੨॥੧॥੧੨॥
sagal manorath paavai naanak pooran hovai aas |2|1|12|
All hopes and desires, O Nanak, are fulfilled. ||2||1||12||

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਿਧਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮ ॥
saadhasangat nidh har ko naam |
The Treasure of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is found in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਸੰਗਿ ਸਹਾਈ ਜੀਅ ਕੈ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sang sahaaee jeea kai kaam |1| rahaau |
It is the Companion of the soul, its Helper and Support. ||1||Pause||
ਸੰਤ ਰੇਨੁ ਨਿਤਿ ਮਜਨੁ ਕਰੈ ॥
sant ren nit majan karai |
Continually bathing in the dust of the feet of the Saints,
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਬਿਖ ਹਰੈ ॥੧॥
janam janam ke kilabikh harai |1|
the sins of countless incarnations are washed away. ||1||
ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਊਚੀ ਬਾਨੀ ॥
sant janaa kee aoochee baanee |
The words of the humble Saints are lofty and exalted.
ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਤਰੇ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ॥੨॥੨॥੧੩॥
simar simar tare naanak praanee |2|2|13|
Meditating, meditating in remembrance, O Nanak, mortal beings are carried across and saved. ||2||2||13||

ਸਾਧੂ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਇ ॥
saadhoo har hare gun gaae |
O Holy people, sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, Har, Haray.
ਮਾਨ ਤਨੁ ਧਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੇ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਦੁਖੁ ਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
maan tan dhan praan prabh ke simarat dukh jaae |1| rahaau |
Mind, body, wealth and the breath of life - all come from God; remembering Him in meditation, pain is taken away. ||1||Pause||
ਈਤ ਊਤ ਕਹਾ ਲੋੁਭਾਵਹਿ ਏਕ ਸਿਉ ਮਨੁ ਲਾਇ ॥੧॥
eet aoot kahaa loubhaaveh ek siau man laae |1|
Why are you entangled in this and that? Let your mind be attuned to the One. ||1||
ਮਹਾ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਤ ਆਸਨੁ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਿ ਗੋਬਿਦੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੨॥
mahaa pavitr sant aasan mil sang gobid dhiaae |2|
The place of the Saints is utterly sacred; meet with them, and meditate on the Lord of the Universe. ||2||
ਸਗਲ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਸਰਨਿ ਆਇਓ ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੩॥੩॥੧੪॥
sagal tiaag saran aaeo naanak lehu milaae |3|3|14|
O Nanak, I have abandoned everything and come to Your Sanctuary. Please let me merge with You. ||3||3||14||

ਪੇਖਿ ਪੇਖਿ ਬਿਗਸਾਉ ਸਾਜਨ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਪਨਾ ਇਕਾਂਤ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
pekh pekh bigasaau saajan prabh aapanaa ikaant |1| rahaau |
Gazing upon and beholding my Best Friend, I blossom forth in bliss; my God is the One and Only. ||1||Pause||
ਆਨਦਾ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਆਨ ਨਾਹੀ ਭਾਂਤਿ ॥੧॥
aanadaa sukh sehaj moorat tis aan naahee bhaant |1|
He is the Image of Ecstasy, Intuitive Peace and Poise. There is no other like Him. ||1||
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਇਕ ਬਾਰ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਿਟਿ ਕੋਟਿ ਕਸਮਲ ਜਾਂਤਿ ॥੨॥
simarat ik baar har har mitt kott kasamal jaant |2|
Meditating in remembrance on the Lord, Har, Har, even once, millions of sins are erased. ||2||
ਗੁਣ ਰਮੰਤ ਦੂਖ ਨਾਸਹਿ ਰਿਦ ਭਇਅੰਤ ਸਾਂਤਿ ॥੩॥
gun ramant dookh naaseh rid bheiant saant |3|
Uttering His Glorious Praises, suffering is eradicated, and the heart becomes tranquil and calm. ||3||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਾ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਉ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤ ॥੪॥੪॥੧੫॥
amritaa ras peeo rasanaa naanak har rang raat |4|4|15|
Drink in the Sweet, Sublime Ambrosial Nectar, O Nanak, and be imbued with the Love of the Lord. ||4||4||15||

jaeh bilok chandramaa laajai |
ਤਾ ਕੀ ਏਕ ਲਛਿਮਿਨਿ ਦਾਸੀ ॥

ਦੁਰਬਲ ਦੇਹ ਘੜੀ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥੨॥

ਤਾ ਸੌ ਨਾਰਿ ਹੇਤੁ ਅਤਿ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
taa sau naar het at maanai |
ਮੂੜ ਨ ਰਾਨੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਆ ਪਛਾਨੈ ॥
moorr na raanee kriaa pachhaanai |
ਗੁਪਤ ਲੇਤ ਦਾਸੀ ਸੁ ਛਿਮਾਹੀ ॥
gupat let daasee su chhimaahee |
ਬੁਰੀ ਬੁਰੀ ਤਿਹ ਦੇਤ ਉਗਾਹੀ ॥੩॥
buree buree tih det ugaahee |3|
ਤਿਹ ਰਾਨੀ ਅਪਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
tih raanee apanee kar maanai |
ਮੂਰਖ ਤਾਹਿ ਜਸੂਸ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
moorakh taeh jasoos na jaanai |
ਪਰੈ ਬਾਤ ਤਾ ਕਹ ਜੇ ਸ੍ਰਵਨਨ ॥
parai baat taa keh je sravanan |
ਲਿਖਿ ਪਠਵੈ ਤਤਛਿਨ ਰਾਜਾ ਤਨ ॥੪॥
likh patthavai tatachhin raajaa tan |4|
ਹੁਤੇ ਦੋਇ ਦਾਸੀ ਕੇ ਭਾਈ ॥
hute doe daasee ke bhaaee |
ਬਿਰਧ ਦੰਤ ਕਛੁ ਕਹਾ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥
biradh dant kachh kahaa na jaaee |
ਸ︀ਯਾਮ ਬਰਨ ਇਕ ਦੁਤਿਯ ਕੁਰੂਪਾ ॥
sayaam baran ik dutiy kuroopaa |
ਆਂਖੈ ਜਾਨੁ ਸੁਰਨ ਕੇ ਕੂਪਾ ॥੫॥
aankhai jaan suran ke koopaa |5|
ਬਗਲ ਗੰਧਿ ਤਿਨ ਤੇ ਅਤਿ ਆਵੈ ॥
bagal gandh tin te at aavai |
ਬੈਠਨ ਨਿਕਟ ਨ ਕੋਈ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
baitthan nikatt na koee paavai |
ਚੇਰੀ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਜਾਨਿ ਹਿਤ ਮਾਨੈ ॥
cheree bhraat jaan hit maanai |
ਮੂੜ ਨਾਰਿ ਕਛੁ ਕ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਨ ਜਾਨੈ ॥੬॥

ਤਹ ਇਕ ਹੁਤੀ ਜਾਟਿ ਕੀ ਨਾਰ ॥
teh ik hutee jaatt kee naar |
ਮੈਨ ਕਹਤ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਮ ਉਚਾਰ ॥
main kehat tih naam uchaar |
ਜਉ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਮ ਚੇਰਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਵੇ ॥
jau tih naam cher sun paave |
ਤਹ ਤੇ ਤਾਹਿ ਟੂਕਰਾ ਜਾਵੇ ॥੭॥
teh te taeh ttookaraa jaave |7|
ਤਿਨ ਇਸਤ੍ਰੀ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ॥
tin isatree ih bhaat bichaaree |
ਦਾਸੀ ਮੂੜ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਮਹਿ ਧਾਰੀ ॥
daasee moorr hridai meh dhaaree |
ਭਾਇ ਖਰਚੁ ਕਛੁ ਮਾਗਤ ਤੇਰੇ ॥
bhaae kharach kachh maagat tere |
ਗੁਹਜ ਪਠੈਯੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਮੇਰੇ ॥੮॥
guhaj patthaiyai kar kar mere |8|
ਤਬ ਚੇਰੀ ਐਸੋ ਤਨ ਕਿਯੋ ॥
tab cheree aiso tan kiyo |
ਡਾਰਿ ਦਰਬ ਭੋਜਨ ਮਹਿ ਦਿਯੋ ॥
ddaar darab bhojan meh diyo |
ਭਾਇ ਨਿਮਿਤ ਖਰਚੀ ਪਠ ਦਈ ॥
bhaae nimit kharachee patth dee |
ਸੋ ਲੈ ਨਾਰਿ ਦਰਬੁ ਘਰ ਗਈ ॥੯॥
so lai naar darab ghar gee |9|
ਆਧੋ ਧਨ ਤਿਹ ਭ੍ਰਾਤਨ ਦੀਨਾ ॥
aadho dhan tih bhraatan deenaa |
ਆਧੋ ਕਾਢਿ ਆਪਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਲੀਨਾ ॥
aadho kaadt aap triy leenaa |
ਮੂਰਖ ਚੇਰੀ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
moorakh cheree bhed na paavai |
ਇਹ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਤਨ ਮੂੰਡ ਮੁੰਡਾਵੈ ॥੧੦॥
