ਤੈ ਨਰ ਕਿਆ ਪੁਰਾਨੁ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੀਨਾ ॥
tai nar kiaa puraan sun keenaa |
So what have you accomplished by listening to the Puraanas?
ਅਨਪਾਵਨੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਉਪਜੀ ਭੂਖੈ ਦਾਨੁ ਨ ਦੀਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
anapaavanee bhagat nahee upajee bhookhai daan na deenaa |1| rahaau |
Faithful devotion has not welled up within you, and you have not been inspired to give to the hungry. ||1||Pause||
ਕਾਮੁ ਨ ਬਿਸਰਿਓ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਨ ਬਿਸਰਿਓ ਲੋਭੁ ਨ ਛੂਟਿਓ ਦੇਵਾ ॥
kaam na bisario krodh na bisario lobh na chhoottio devaa |
You have not forgotten sexual desire, and you have not forgotten anger; greed has not left you either.
ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਛੂਟੀ ਨਿਫਲ ਭਈ ਸਭ ਸੇਵਾ ॥੧॥
par nindaa mukh te nahee chhoottee nifal bhee sabh sevaa |1|
Your mouth has not stopped slandering and gossiping about others. Your service is useless and fruitless. ||1||
ਬਾਟ ਪਾਰਿ ਘਰੁ ਮੂਸਿ ਬਿਰਾਨੋ ਪੇਟੁ ਭਰੈ ਅਪ੍ਰਾਧੀ ॥
baatt paar ghar moos biraano pett bharai apraadhee |
By breaking into the houses of others and robbing them, you fill your belly, you sinner.
ਜਿਹਿ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਜਾਇ ਅਪਕੀਰਤਿ ਸੋਈ ਅਬਿਦਿਆ ਸਾਧੀ ॥੨॥
jihi paralok jaae apakeerat soee abidiaa saadhee |2|
But when you go to the world beyond, your guilt will be well known, by the acts of ignorance which you committed. ||2||
ਹਿੰਸਾ ਤਉ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਨਹੀ ਛੂਟੀ ਜੀਅ ਦਇਆ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਲੀ ॥
hinsaa tau man te nahee chhoottee jeea deaa nahee paalee |
Cruelty has not left your mind; you have not cherished kindness for other living beings.
ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਕਥਾ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਨ ਚਾਲੀ ॥੩॥੧॥੬॥
paramaanand saadhasangat mil kathaa puneet na chaalee |3|1|6|
Parmaanand has joined the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. Why have you not followed the sacred teachings? ||3||1||6||
ਛਾਡਿ ਮਨ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਮੁਖਨ ਕੋ ਸੰਗੁ ॥
chhaadd man har bimukhan ko sang |
O mind, do not even associate with those who have turned their backs on the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਸੰਗ ਬਸੇ ਹਰਿ ਲੋਕ ॥
har ke sang base har lok |
The people of the Lord dwell with the Lord.
ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਅਰਪਿ ਸਰਬਸੁ ਸਭੁ ਅਰਪਿਓ ਅਨਦ ਸਹਜ ਧੁਨਿ ਝੋਕ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
tan man arap sarabas sabh arapio anad sehaj dhun jhok |1| rahaau |
They dedicate their minds and bodies to Him; they dedicate everything to Him. They are intoxicated with the celestial melody of intuitive ecstasy. ||1||Pause||
ਦਰਸਨੁ ਪੇਖਿ ਭਏ ਨਿਰਬਿਖਈ ਪਾਏ ਹੈ ਸਗਲੇ ਥੋਕ ॥
darasan pekh bhe nirabikhee paae hai sagale thok |
Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan, they are cleansed of corruption. They obtain absolutely everything.
ਆਨ ਬਸਤੁ ਸਿਉ ਕਾਜੁ ਨ ਕਛੂਐ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਬਦਨ ਅਲੋਕ ॥੧॥
aan basat siau kaaj na kachhooai sundar badan alok |1|
They have nothing to do with anything else; they gaze on the beauteous Face of God. ||1||
ਸਿਆਮ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਤਜਿ ਆਨ ਜੁ ਚਾਹਤ ਜਿਉ ਕੁਸਟੀ ਤਨਿ ਜੋਕ ॥
siaam sundar taj aan ju chaahat jiau kusattee tan jok |
But one who forsakes the elegantly beautiful Lord, and harbors desire for anything else, is like a leech on the body of a leper.
ਸੂਰਦਾਸ ਮਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਹਥਿ ਲੀਨੋ ਦੀਨੋ ਇਹੁ ਪਰਲੋਕ ॥੨॥੧॥੮॥
sooradaas man prabh hath leeno deeno ihu paralok |2|1|8|
Says Sur Daas, God has taken my mind in His Hands. He has blessed me with the world beyond. ||2||1||8||

Other than the Lord, who is the Help and Support of the mind?
ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਹਿਤੁ ਲਾਗੋ ਸਭ ਫਨ ਕਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
maat pitaa bhaaee sut banitaa hit laago sabh fan kaa |1| rahaau |
Love and attachment to mother, father, sibling, child and spouse, is all just an illusion. ||1||Pause||
ਆਗੇ ਕਉ ਕਿਛੁ ਤੁਲਹਾ ਬਾਂਧਹੁ ਕਿਆ ਭਰਵਾਸਾ ਧਨ ਕਾ ॥
aage kau kichh tulahaa baandhahu kiaa bharavaasaa dhan kaa |
So build a raft to the world hereafter; what faith do you place in wealth?
ਕਹਾ ਬਿਸਾਸਾ ਇਸ ਭਾਂਡੇ ਕਾ ਇਤਨਕੁ ਲਾਗੈ ਠਨਕਾ ॥੧॥
kahaa bisaasaa is bhaandde kaa itanak laagai tthanakaa |1|
What confidence do you place in this fragile vessel; it breaks with the slightest stroke. ||1||
ਸਗਲ ਧਰਮ ਪੁੰਨ ਫਲ ਪਾਵਹੁ ਧੂਰਿ ਬਾਂਛਹੁ ਸਭ ਜਨ ਕਾ ॥
sagal dharam pun fal paavahu dhoor baanchhahu sabh jan kaa |
You shall obtain the rewards of all righteousness and goodness, if you desire to be the dust of all.
ਕਹੈ ਕਬੀਰੁ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਉਡਨ ਪੰਖੇਰੂ ਬਨ ਕਾ ॥੨॥੧॥੯॥
kahai kabeer sunahu re santahu ihu man uddan pankheroo ban kaa |2|1|9|
Says Kabeer, listen, O Saints: this mind is like the bird, flying above the forest. ||2||1||9||

ਅਰਿ ਅਨੇਕ ਜੀਤੇ ਜਿਨ ਦਲਿ ਮਲਿ ॥੧॥
ar anek jeete jin dal mal |1|
ਬਿਧ੍ਰਯ ਮਤੀ ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਇਕ ਤਾ ਕੇ ॥
bidhray matee duhitaa ik taa ke |
ਨਰੀ ਨਾਗਨੀ ਸਮ ਨਹਿ ਜਾ ਕੇ ॥
naree naaganee sam neh jaa ke |
ਅਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਤਿਹ ਸੇਜ ਸੁਹਾਵੈ ॥
apramaan tih sej suhaavai |
ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਰੋਜ ਬਿਲੋਕਨ ਆਵੈ ॥੨॥
rav sas roj bilokan aavai |2|
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਲਗਿਯੋ ਏਕ ਸੰਗ ਨੇਹਾ ॥
taa ko lagiyo ek sang nehaa |
ਜ︀ਯੋਂ ਸਾਵਨ ਕੋ ਬਰਿਸਤ ਮੇਹਾ ॥
jayon saavan ko barisat mehaa |
ਚਤੁਰ ਕੁਅਰ ਤਿਹ ਨਾਮ ਭਨਿਜੈ ॥
chatur kuar tih naam bhanijai |
ਕਵਨ ਪੁਰਖ ਪਟਤਰ ਤਿਹ ਦਿਜੈ ॥੩॥
kavan purakh pattatar tih dijai |3|
ਬਿਧ︀ਯਾ ਦੇਈ ਇਕ ਦਿਨ ਰਸਿ ਕੈ ॥
bidhayaa deee ik din ras kai |
ਬੋਲਿ ਲਿਯਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਕਹ ਕਸਿ ਕੈ ॥
bol liyaa preetam keh kas kai |
ਕਾਮ ਭੋਗ ਤਿਹ ਸਾਥ ਕਮਾਯੋ ॥
kaam bhog tih saath kamaayo |
ਤਰੁਨੀ ਤਰੁਨ ਅਧਿਕ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੪॥
tarunee tarun adhik sukh paayo |4|
ਬਿਧੀ ਸੈਨ ਸੌ ਕਿਨਹਿ ਜਤਾਈ ॥
bidhee sain sau kineh jataaee |
ਤੋਰਿ ਸੁਤਾ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਜਾਰ ਬੁਲਾਈ ॥
tor sutaa grih jaar bulaaee |
ਕਾਮ ਭੋਗ ਤਿਹ ਸਾਥ ਕਰਤ ਹੈ ॥
kaam bhog tih saath karat hai |
ਤੋ ਤੇ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਨਹਿ ਨੈਕੁ ਡਰਤ ਹੈ ॥੫॥
to te nrip neh naik ddarat hai |5|
ਤਬ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸਾਥ ਤਿਸੀ ਕੋ ਲੈ ਕੈ ॥
tab nrip saath tisee ko lai kai |
ਜਾਤ ਭਯੋ ਤਹ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਿਸੈ ਕੈ ॥
jaat bhayo teh adhik risai kai |
ਬਿਧ︀ਯਾ ਮਤੀ ਜਬੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਈ ॥
bidhayaa matee jabai sun paaee |
ਮੀਤ ਸਹਿਤ ਜਿਯ ਮੈ ਡਰ ਪਾਈ ॥੬॥
meet sahit jiy mai ddar paaee |6|
ਖੋਦਿ ਛਾਤ ਦ੍ਵੈ ਛੇਦ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
khod chhaat dvai chhed savaare |
ਜਿਹ ਆਵਤ ਵੈ ਰਾਹ ਬਿਚਾਰੇ ॥
jih aavat vai raah bichaare |
ਤਿਹ ਮਗ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਕਰਾ ॥
tih mag hvai bisattaa duhoon karaa |
ਦੂਤ ਸਹਿਤ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਪਰਾ ॥੭॥
doot sahit nrip ke sir paraa |7|
ਅੰਧ ਗਏ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਸੂਝ ਨ ਆਯੋ ॥
andh ge hvai soojh na aayo |
ਤਿਸੀ ਪੈਡ ਗ੍ਰਿਹਿ ਜਾਰ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥
tisee paidd grihi jaar patthaayo |
ਰਾਜਾ ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਨ ਲਹਾ ॥
raajaa bhed abhed na lahaa |
ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਕਾਮ ਕੈ ਗਈ ਕਹਾ ॥੮॥
duhitaa kaam kai gee kahaa |8|
ਬਿਸਟਾ ਰਹੀ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਕੇ ਲਗਿ ਕੈ ॥
bisattaa rahee duhoon ke lag kai |
ਸੁ ਘਰ ਗਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੇ ਸਿਰ ਹਗਿ ਕੈ ॥
su ghar gayo tih ke sir hag kai |
ਘਰੀਕ ਲਗੀ ਧੋਵਤੇ ਬਦਨਨ ॥
ghareek lagee dhovate badanan |
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਗਏ ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਕੈ ਸਦਨਨ ॥੯॥
bahur ge duhitaa kai sadanan |9|
ਤਹਾ ਜਾਇ ਜੌ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਨਿਹਰਾ ॥
tahaa jaae jau nripat niharaa |
ਜਾਰ ਵਾਰ ਕਛੁ ਦਿਸਟਿ ਨ ਪਰਾ ॥
jaar vaar kachh disatt na paraa |
ਤਬ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਉਲਟਿ ਤਿਸੀ ਕੋ ਮਰਿਯੋ ॥
tab nrip ulatt tisee ko mariyo |
ਬਿਸਟਾ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਜਾਹਿ ਸਿਰ ਪਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੦॥
bisattaa pratham jaeh sir pariyo |10|
ਇਹ ਛਲ ਸੌ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਪਿਯਹਿ ਉਬਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
eih chhal sau triy piyeh ubaariyo |
ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਬਿਸਟਾ ਕੌ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
tin ke mukh bisattaa kau ddaariyo |
ਭਲਾ ਬੁਰਾ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਨ ਬਿਚਾਰਾ ॥
bhalaa buraa bhoopat na bichaaraa |
ਭੇਦ ਦਾਇਕਹਿ ਪਕਰਿ ਪਛਾਰਾ ॥੧੧॥
bhed daaeikeh pakar pachhaaraa |11|
