Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾ ਕੀ ਜੀਵਨਿ ॥
har har sant janaa kee jeevan |
The Lord, Har, Har, is the life of the humble Saints.
ਬਿਖੈ ਰਸ ਭੋਗ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਸੁ ਪੀਵਨਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bikhai ras bhog amrit sukh saagar raam naam ras peevan |1| rahaau |
Instead of enjoying corrupt pleasures, they drink in the Ambrosial Essence of the Name of the Lord, the Ocean of Peace. ||1||Pause||
ਸੰਚਨਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਰਤਨਾ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਭੀਤਰਿ ਸੀਵਨਿ ॥
sanchan raam naam dhan ratanaa man tan bheetar seevan |
They gather up the priceless wealth of the Lord's Name, and weave it into the fabric of their mind and body.
ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗ ਰਾਂਗ ਭਏ ਮਨ ਲਾਲਾ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਸ ਖੀਵਨਿ ॥੧॥
har rang raang bhe man laalaa raam naam ras kheevan |1|
Imbued with the Lord's Love, their minds are dyed in the deep crimson color of devotional love; they are intoxicated with the sublime essence of the Lord's Name. ||1||
ਜਿਉ ਮੀਨਾ ਜਲ ਸਿਉ ਉਰਝਾਨੋ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸੰਗਿ ਲੀਵਨਿ ॥
jiau meenaa jal siau urajhaano raam naam sang leevan |
As the fish is immersed in water, they are absorbed in the Lord's Name.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸੰਤ ਚਾਤ੍ਰਿਕ ਕੀ ਨਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਬੂੰਦ ਪਾਨ ਸੁਖ ਥੀਵਨਿ ॥੨॥੬੮॥੯੧॥
naanak sant chaatrik kee niaaee har boond paan sukh theevan |2|68|91|
O Nanak, the Saints are like the rainbirds; they are comforted, drinking in the drops of the Lord's Name. ||2||68||91||

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮਹੀਨ ਬੇਤਾਲ ॥
har ke naamaheen betaal |
Without the Name of the Lord, the mortal is a ghost.
ਜੇਤਾ ਕਰਨ ਕਰਾਵਨ ਤੇਤਾ ਸਭਿ ਬੰਧਨ ਜੰਜਾਲ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jetaa karan karaavan tetaa sabh bandhan janjaal |1| rahaau |
All the actions he commits are just shackles and bonds. ||1||Pause||
ਬਿਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸੇਵ ਕਰਤ ਅਨ ਸੇਵਾ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕਾਟੈ ਕਾਲ ॥
bin prabh sev karat an sevaa birathaa kaattai kaal |
Without serving God, one who serves another wastes his time uselessly.
ਜਬ ਜਮੁ ਆਇ ਸੰਘਾਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਤਬ ਤੁਮਰੋ ਕਉਨੁ ਹਵਾਲ ॥੧॥
jab jam aae sanghaarai praanee tab tumaro kaun havaal |1|
When the Messenger of Death comes to kill you, O mortal, what will your condition be then? ||1||
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਦਾਸ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਕਉ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਕਿਰਪਾਲ ॥
raakh lehu daas apune kau sadaa sadaa kirapaal |
Please protect Your slave, O Eternally Merciful Lord.
ਸੁਖ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਧਨ ਮਾਲ ॥੨॥੬੯॥੯੨॥
sukh nidhaan naanak prabh meraa saadhasang dhan maal |2|69|92|
O Nanak, my God is the Treasure of Peace; He is the wealth and property of the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy. ||2||69||92||

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਰਾਮ ਕੋ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੁ ॥
man tan raam ko biauhaar |
My mind and body deal only in the Lord.
ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਗੁਨ ਗਾਵਨ ਗੀਧੇ ਪੋਹਤ ਨਹ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
prem bhagat gun gaavan geedhe pohat neh sansaar |1| rahaau |
Imbued with loving devotional worship, I sing His Glorious Praises; I am not affected by worldly affairs. ||1||Pause||
ਸ੍ਰਵਣੀ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਇਹੁ ਸਾਧ ਕੋ ਆਚਾਰੁ ॥
sravanee keeratan simaran suaamee ihu saadh ko aachaar |
This is the way of life of the Holy Saint: he listens to the Kirtan, the Praises of his Lord and Master, and meditates in remembrance on Him.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਅਸਥਿਤਿ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪੂਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਕੋ ਆਧਾਰੁ ॥੧॥
charan kamal asathit rid antar poojaa praan ko aadhaar |1|
He implants the Lord's Lotus Feet deep within his heart; worship of the Lord is the support of his breath of life. ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਅਪਨੀ ਧਾਰੁ ॥
prabh deen deaal sunahu benantee kirapaa apanee dhaar |
O God, Merciful to the meek, please hear my prayer, and shower Your Blessings upon me.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਉਚਰਉ ਨਿਤ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਦ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੁ ॥੨॥੭੦॥੯੩॥
naam nidhaan uchrau nit rasanaa naanak sad balihaar |2|70|93|
I continually chant the treasure of the Naam with my tongue; Nanak is forever a sacrifice. ||2||70||93||

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮਹੀਨ ਮਤਿ ਥੋਰੀ ॥
har ke naamaheen mat thoree |
Without the Name of the Lord, his intellect is shallow.
ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਹਿ ਸਿਰੀਧਰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਮਿਲਤ ਅੰਧ ਦੁਖ ਘੋਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
simarat naeh sireedhar tthaakur milat andh dukh ghoree |1| rahaau |
He does not meditate in remembrance on the Lord, his Lord and Master; the blind fool suffers in terrible agony. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਸਿਉ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਨ ਲਾਗੀ ਅਨਿਕ ਭੇਖ ਬਹੁ ਜੋਰੀ ॥
har ke naam siau preet na laagee anik bhekh bahu joree |
He does not embrace love for the Name of the Lord; he is totally attached to various religious robes.
ਤੂਟਤ ਬਾਰ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਜਿਉ ਗਾਗਰਿ ਜਲ ਫੋਰੀ ॥੧॥
toottat baar na laagai taa kau jiau gaagar jal foree |1|
His attachments are shattered in an instant; when the pitcher is broken, the water runs out. ||1||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਰਸੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਮਨੁ ਖਚਿਤ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਰਸ ਖੋਰੀ ॥
kar kirapaa bhagat ras deejai man khachit prem ras khoree |
Please bless me, that I may worship You in loving devotion. My mind is absorbed and intoxicated with Your Delicious Love.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਬਿਨੁ ਆਨ ਨ ਹੋਰੀ ॥੨॥੭੧॥੯੪॥
naanak daas teree saranaaee prabh bin aan na horee |2|71|94|
Nanak, Your slave, has entered Your Sanctuary; without God, there is no other at all. ||2||71||94||

ਚਿਤਵਉ ਵਾ ਅਉਸਰ ਮਨ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
chitvau vaa aausar man maeh |
In my mind, I think about that moment,
ਹੋਇ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਮਿਲਹੁ ਸੰਤ ਸਾਜਨ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਨਿਤ ਗਾਹਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
hoe ikatr milahu sant saajan gun gobind nit gaeh |1| rahaau |
when I join the Gathering of the Friendly Saints, constantly singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe. ||1||Pause||
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਭਜਨ ਜੇਤੇ ਕਾਮ ਕਰੀਅਹਿ ਤੇਤੇ ਬਿਰਥੇ ਜਾਂਹਿ ॥
bin har bhajan jete kaam kareeeh tete birathe jaanhi |
Without vibrating and meditating on the Lord, whatever deeds you do will be useless.
ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦ ਮਨਿ ਮੀਠੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਸਰ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧॥
pooran paramaanand man meettho tis bin doosar naeh |1|
The Perfect Embodiment of Supreme Bliss is so sweet to my mind. Without Him, there is no other at all. ||1||
ਜਪ ਤਪ ਸੰਜਮ ਕਰਮ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਧਨ ਤੁਲਿ ਨ ਕਛੂਐ ਲਾਹਿ ॥
jap tap sanjam karam sukh saadhan tul na kachhooai laeh |
Chanting, deep meditation, austere self-discipline, good deeds and other techniques to being peace - they are not equal to even a tiny bit of the Lord's Name.
ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੁ ਬੇਧਿਓ ਚਰਨਹ ਸੰਗਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੨॥੭੨॥੯੫॥
charan kamal naanak man bedhio charanah sang samaeh |2|72|95|
Nanak's mind is pierced through by the Lotus Feet of the Lord; it is absorbed in His Lotus Feet. ||2||72||95||

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੰਗੇ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
meraa prabh sange antarajaamee |
My God is always with me; He is the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts.
ਆਗੈ ਕੁਸਲ ਪਾਛੈ ਖੇਮ ਸੂਖਾ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aagai kusal paachhai khem sookhaa simarat naam suaamee |1| rahaau |
I find happiness in the world hereafter, and peace and pleasure in this world, meditating in remembrance on the Name of my Lord and Master. ||1||Pause||
ਸਾਜਨ ਮੀਤ ਸਖਾ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਰੈ ਗੁਨ ਗੋੁਪਾਲ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥
saajan meet sakhaa har merai gun goupaal har raaeaa |
The Lord is my Best Friend, my Buddy, my Companion. I sing the Glorious Praises of my Sovereign Lord King.
ਬਿਸਰਿ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਨਿਮਖ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਤੇ ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
bisar na jaaee nimakh hiradai te poorai guroo milaaeaa |1|
I shall not forget Him in my heart, even for an instant; I have met with the Perfect Guru. ||1||
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਰਾਖੇ ਦਾਸ ਅਪਨੇ ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਵਸਿ ਜਾ ਕੈ ॥
kar kirapaa raakhe daas apane jeea jant vas jaa kai |
In His Mercy, He protects His slave; all beings and creatures are in His Power.
ਏਕਾ ਲਿਵ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮੇਸੁਰ ਭਉ ਨਹੀ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਾ ਕੈ ॥੨॥੭੩॥੯੬॥

One who is lovingly attuned to the One, the Perfect Transcendent Lord God, O Nanak, is rid of all fear. ||2||73||96||

ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕ ਬੰਧੁ ਤਬ ਸਭਨ ਦਿਖਾਯੋ ॥
mritak bandh tab sabhan dikhaayo |
ਮਰਿਯੋ ਆਜੁ ਇਹ ਸਾਪ ਚਬਾਯੋ ॥੭॥
mariyo aaj ih saap chabaayo |7|
ਭਲੀ ਭਾਤ ਤਨ ਤਾਹਿ ਗਡਾਯੋ ॥
bhalee bhaat tan taeh gaddaayo |
ਯੌ ਕਾਜੀ ਤਨ ਆਪੁ ਜਤਾਯੋ ॥
yau kaajee tan aap jataayo |
ਸਾਜ ਬਾਜਿ ਇਕ ਯਾ ਕੋ ਘੋਰੋ ॥
saaj baaj ik yaa ko ghoro |
ਔਰ ਜੁ ਕਛੁ ਯਾ ਕੌ ਧਨੁ ਥੋਰੋ ॥੮॥

ਕਛੁ ਧਨ ਮ੍ਰਿਤਕ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਕਹ ਦਈ ॥੯॥

ਜੌ ਇਹ ਧਾਮ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਕੇ ਹੋਤੋ ॥
jau ih dhaam nripat ke hoto |
ਤੌ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਲਾਇਕ ਬਰ ਕੋ ਥੋ ॥
tau tumare laaeik bar ko tho |
ਅਬ ਮੈ ਅਸ ਕਹ ਕਰੌ ਉਪਾਊ ॥

ਐਸੋ ਬਰ ਤੁਹਿ ਆਨ ਮਿਲਾਊ ॥੪॥

ਹੋ ਪਲ ਪਲ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਤੀ ਦਿਵਸ ਗਵਾਇਯੋ ॥੫॥

bhed na doosar kaan bakhaanaa |
ਤਤਛਿਨ ਦੌਰ ਤਵਨ ਪਹਿ ਗਈ ॥
tatachhin dauar tavan peh gee |
ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਬੋਧਤ ਭਈ ॥੭॥

ਜ︀ਯੋਂ ਤ︀ਯੋਂ ਤਾਹਿ ਤਹਾ ਲੈ ਆਈ ॥
jayon tayon taeh tahaa lai aaee |
ਮਾਰਗ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਬਿਲੋਕ ਜਹਾ ॥

ਲੈ ਪਹੁਚੀ ਮਿਤਵਾ ਕਹ ਤਹਾ ॥੮॥
lai pahuchee mitavaa keh tahaa |8|
ਲਖਿ ਤਿਹ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਫੁਲਿਤ ਭਈ ॥
lakh tih kuar prafulit bhee |
ਜਨੁਕ ਰਾਕ ਨਵੋ ਨਿਧਿ ਪਈ ॥
januk raak navo nidh pee |

ਤਾ ਕੋ ਦੂਰ ਦਰਿਦ੍ਰ ਦਿਯਾ ਕਰਿ ॥
taa ko door daridr diyaa kar |
ਸੀਸ ਰਹੀ ਧਰ ਸਖੀ ਪਗਨ ਪਰ ॥
sees rahee dhar sakhee pagan par |
ਤਵਪ੍ਰਸਾਦ ਮੈ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਹਿ ਲਹਿਯੋ ॥
tavaprasaad mai mitreh lahiyo |
ਕਹਾ ਕਹੋ ਤੁਹਿ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਕਹਿਯੋ ॥੧੦॥
kahaa kaho tuhi jaat na kahiyo |10|
ਅਬ ਕਛੁ ਐਸ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਬਨੈਯੇ ॥
ab kachh ais charitr banaiye |
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਕਹ ਪੈਯੇ ॥
jaa te sadaa mitr keh paiye |
ਸੋਵੌ ਸਦਾ ਸੰਗ ਲੈ ਤਾ ਕੌ ॥
sovau sadaa sang lai taa kau |
ਚੀਨਿ ਸਕੈ ਕੋਊ ਨਹਿ ਵਾ ਕੌ ॥੧੧॥

ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਅਸ ਚਿਤ ਬਿਚਾਰੇ ॥

ਸੁ ਮੈ ਕਹਤ ਹੋ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਪ︀ਯਾਰੇ ॥
su mai kehat ho sunahu payaare |
ਤਾਹਿ ਛਪਾਇ ਸਦਨ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਖਾ ॥
taeh chhapaae sadan meh raakhaa |
ਰਾਨੀ ਸੌ ਐਸੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਭਾਖਾ ॥੧੨॥
raanee sau aisee bidh bhaakhaa |12|
ਰਾਨੀ ਜੋ ਤੁਮ ਪੁਰਖ ਸਰਾਹਾ ॥
raanee jo tum purakh saraahaa |
ਤਾ ਕਹ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਿਸੁਨਾਥਨ ਚਾਹਾ ॥
taa keh sree bisunaathan chaahaa |
ਵਾ ਕੋ ਕਾਲਿ ਕਾਲ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਗਯੋ ॥
vaa ko kaal kaal hvai gayo |
ਯਾ ਸਖਿ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਸੁਨਿ ਲਯੋ ॥੧੩॥
yaa sakh ke mukh te sun layo |13|
ਹਮ ਸਭਹਿਨ ਜੋ ਤਾਹਿ ਸਰਾਹਾ ॥
ham sabhahin jo taeh saraahaa |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਸੁਨਾਥਨ ਚਾਹਾ ॥
taa te tis bisunaathan chaahaa |
ਜਨਿਯਤ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਨ ਕੀ ਲਾਗੀ ॥
janiyat drisatt triyan kee laagee |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਤਾਹਿ ਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਲੈ ਭਾਗੀ ॥੧੪॥
taa te taeh mrit lai bhaagee |14|
ਰਾਨੀ ਸੋਕ ਤਵਨ ਕੋ ਕਿਯੋ ॥
raanee sok tavan ko kiyo |
ਤਾ ਦਿਨ ਅੰਨ ਨ ਪਾਨੀ ਪਿਯੋ ॥
taa din an na paanee piyo |
ਸਾਚ ਮਰਿਯੋ ਜਾਨ︀ਯੋ ਜਿਯ ਤਾ ਕੌ ॥
saach mariyo jaanayo jiy taa kau |
ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ਯਾ ਕੌ ॥੧੫॥
bhed abhed na paayo yaa kau |15|
ਜਸ ਤੁਮ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਯਾਹਿ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
jas tum sundar yaeh nihaariyo |
ਭਯੌ ਨ ਹੈ ਹ੍ਵੈਹੈ ਨ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
bhayau na hai hvaihai na bichaariyo |
ਯਾ ਕੀ ਬਹਿਨਿ ਏਕ ਤਿਹ ਘਰ ਮੈ ॥
yaa kee bahin ek tih ghar mai |
ਛਾਡਿ ਅਯੋ ਜਿਹ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ਨਗਰ ਮੈ ॥੧੬॥
chhaadd ayo jih bhraat nagar mai |16|
ਮੁਹਿ ਤੁਮ ਕਹੋ ਤੁ ਤਹ ਮੈ ਜਾਊ ॥
muhi tum kaho tu teh mai jaaoo |
ਵਾ ਕੀ ਖੋਜਿ ਬਹਿਨਿ ਮੈ ਲਯਾਊ ॥
vaa kee khoj bahin mai layaaoo |
ਸੋ ਅਤਿ ਚਤੁਰਿ ਸਭਨ ਗੁਨ ਆਗਰਿ ॥
so at chatur sabhan gun aagar |
ਆਣਿ ਦਿਖਾਊ ਤੁਹਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਨਾਗਰਿ ॥੧੭॥
aan dikhaaoo tuhi nrip naagar |17|
ਭਲੀ ਭਲੀ ਸਭ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਬਖਾਨੀ ॥
bhalee bhalee sabh triy bakhaanee |
ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਗਤਿ ਕਿਨੂੰ ਨ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
bhed abhed gat kinoo na jaanee |
ਖਰਚੀ ਅਧਿਕ ਤਵਨ ਕਹ ਦਈ ॥
kharachee adhik tavan keh dee |
ਤਤਛਿਨ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਬਿਦਾ ਪਠਈ ॥੧੮॥
