Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਚਰਨਹ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਮਾਰਗੁ ਸੁਹਾਵਾ ॥
charanah gobind maarag suhaavaa |
The most beautiful path for the feet is to follow the Lord of the Universe.
ਆਨ ਮਾਰਗ ਜੇਤਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਧਾਈਐ ਤੇਤੋ ਹੀ ਦੁਖੁ ਹਾਵਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aan maarag jetaa kichh dhaaeeai teto hee dukh haavaa |1| rahaau |
The more you walk on any other path, the more you suffer in pain. ||1||Pause||
ਨੇਤ੍ਰ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਭਏ ਦਰਸੁ ਪੇਖੇ ਹਸਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਟਹਲਾਵਾ ॥
netr puneet bhe daras pekhe hasat puneet ttahalaavaa |
The eyes are sanctified, gazing upon the Blessed Vision of the Lord's Darshan. Serving Him, the hands are sanctified.
ਰਿਦਾ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਰਿਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਬਸਿਓ ਮਸਤ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਸੰਤ ਧੂਰਾਵਾ ॥੧॥
ridaa puneet ridai har basio masat puneet sant dhooraavaa |1|
The heart is sanctified, when the Lord abides within the heart; that forehead which touches the dust of the feet of the Saints is sanctified. ||1||
ਸਰਬ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਨਾਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਕਰਮਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਪਾਵਾ ॥
sarab nidhaan naam har har kai jis karam likhiaa tin paavaa |
All treasures are in the Name of the Lord, Har, Har; he alone obtains it, who has it written in his karma.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਭੇਟਿਓ ਸੁਖਿ ਸਹਜੇ ਅਨਦ ਬਿਹਾਵਾ ॥੨॥੧੬॥੩੯॥
jan naanak kau gur pooraa bhettio sukh sahaje anad bihaavaa |2|16|39|
Servant Nanak has met with the Perfect Guru; he passes his life-night in peace, poise and pleasure. ||2||16||39||

Saarang, Fifth Mehl:
ਧਿਆਇਓ ਅੰਤਿ ਬਾਰ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖਾ ॥
dhiaaeo ant baar naam sakhaa |
Meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord; at the very last instant, it shall be your Help and Support.
ਜਹ ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਸੁਤ ਭਾਈ ਨ ਪਹੁਚੈ ਤਹਾ ਤਹਾ ਤੂ ਰਖਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jeh maat pitaa sut bhaaee na pahuchai tahaa tahaa too rakhaa |1| rahaau |
In that place where your mother, father, children and siblings shall be of no use to you at all, there, the Name alone shall save you. ||1||Pause||
ਅੰਧ ਕੂਪ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਮਹਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਸਿਮਰਿਓ ਜਿਸੁ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲੇਖੁ ਲਿਖਾ ॥
andh koop grih meh tin simario jis masatak lekh likhaa |
He alone meditates on the Lord in the deep dark pit of his own household, upon whose forehead such destiny is written.
ਖੂਲੑੇ ਬੰਧਨ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਨੀ ਸਭ ਤੂਹੈ ਤੁਹੀ ਦਿਖਾ ॥੧॥
khoolae bandhan mukat gur keenee sabh toohai tuhee dikhaa |1|
His bonds are loosened, and the Guru liberates him. He sees You, O Lord, everywhere. ||1||
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਪੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿਆ ਆਘਾਏ ਰਸਨ ਚਖਾ ॥
amrit naam peea man tripatiaa aaghaae rasan chakhaa |
Drinking in the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, his mind is satisfied. Tasting it, his tongue is satiated.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਸੁਖ ਸਹਜੁ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਿ ਲਾਹੀ ਸਗਲ ਤਿਖਾ ॥੨॥੧੭॥੪੦॥
kahu naanak sukh sehaj mai paaeaa gur laahee sagal tikhaa |2|17|40|
Says Nanak, I have obtained celestial peace and poise; the Guru has quenched all my thirst. ||2||17||40||

ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਐਸੇ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
gur mil aise prabhoo dhiaaeaa |
Meeting the Guru, I meditate on God in such a way,
ਭਇਓ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲੁ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਜਨੁ ਲਗੈ ਨ ਤਾਤੀ ਬਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
bheo kripaal deaal dukh bhanjan lagai na taatee baaeaa |1| rahaau |
that He has become kind and compassionate to me. He is the Destroyer of pain; He does not allow the hot wind to even touch me. ||1||Pause||
ਜੇਤੇ ਸਾਸ ਸਾਸ ਹਮ ਲੇਤੇ ਤੇਤੇ ਹੀ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਆ ॥
jete saas saas ham lete tete hee gun gaaeaa |
With each and every breath I take, I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord.
ਨਿਮਖ ਨ ਬਿਛੁਰੈ ਘਰੀ ਨ ਬਿਸਰੈ ਸਦ ਸੰਗੇ ਜਤ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
nimakh na bichhurai gharee na bisarai sad sange jat jaaeaa |1|
He is not separated from me, even for an instant, and I never forget Him. He is always with me, wherever I go. ||1||
ਹਉ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਕਉ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਗੁਰ ਦਰਸਾਇਆ ॥
hau bal bal bal bal charan kamal kau bal bal gur darasaaeaa |
I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice, a sacrifice, a sacrifice to His Lotus Feet. I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to the Blessed Vision of the Guru's Darshan.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਾਹੂ ਪਰਵਾਹਾ ਜਉ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੨॥੧੮॥੪੧॥
kahu naanak kaahoo paravaahaa jau sukh saagar mai paaeaa |2|18|41|
Says Nanak, I do not care about anything else; I have found the Lord, the Ocean of peace. ||2||18||41||

ਮੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਲਗੋ ਗੁਰ ਮੀਠਾ ॥
merai man sabad lago gur meetthaa |
The Word of the Guru's Shabad seems so sweet to my mind.
ਖੁਲੑਿਓ ਕਰਮੁ ਭਇਓ ਪਰਗਾਸਾ ਘਟਿ ਘਟਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਡੀਠਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
khulaio karam bheo paragaasaa ghatt ghatt har har ddeetthaa |1| rahaau |
My karma has been activated, and the Divine Radiance of the Lord, Har, Har, is manifest in each and every heart. ||1||Pause||
ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਆਜੋਨੀ ਸੰਭਉ ਸਰਬ ਥਾਨ ਘਟ ਬੀਠਾ ॥
paarabraham aajonee sanbhau sarab thaan ghatt beetthaa |
The Supreme Lord God, beyond birth, Self-existent, is seated within every heart everywhere.
ਭਇਓ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮਾ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਚਰਣੀਠਾ ॥੧॥
bheo paraapat amrit naamaa bal bal prabh charaneetthaa |1|
I have come to obtain the Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice to the Lotus Feet of God. ||1||
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਕੀ ਰੇਣੁ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਗੀ ਕੀਏ ਸਗਲ ਤੀਰਥ ਮਜਨੀਠਾ ॥
satasangat kee ren mukh laagee kee sagal teerath majaneetthaa |
I anoint my forehead with the dust of the Society of the Saints; it is as if I have bathed at all the sacred shrines of pilgrimage.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਰੰਗਿ ਚਲੂਲ ਭਏ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗੁ ਨ ਲਹੈ ਮਜੀਠਾ ॥੨॥੧੯॥੪੨॥
kahu naanak rang chalool bhe hai har rang na lahai majeetthaa |2|19|42|
Says Nanak, I am dyed in the deep crimson color of His Love; the Love of my Lord shall never fade away. ||2||19||42||

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਓ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਾਥੇ ॥
har har naam deeo gur saathe |
The Guru has given me the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, as my Companion.
ਨਿਮਖ ਬਚਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹੀਅਰੈ ਬਸਿਓ ਸਗਲ ਭੂਖ ਮੇਰੀ ਲਾਥੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
nimakh bachan prabh heearai basio sagal bhookh meree laathe |1| rahaau |
If the Word of God dwells within my heart for even an instant, all my hunger is relieved. ||1||Pause||
ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਗੁਣ ਨਾਇਕ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸੁਖ ਸਮੂਹ ਸਭ ਨਾਥੇ ॥
kripaa nidhaan gun naaeik tthaakur sukh samooh sabh naathe |
O Treasure of Mercy, Master of Excellence, my Lord and Master, Ocean of peace, Lord of all.
ਏਕ ਆਸ ਮੋਹਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਅਉਰ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਆਸ ਬਿਰਾਥੇ ॥੧॥
ek aas mohi teree suaamee aaur duteea aas biraathe |1|
My hopes rest in You alone, O my Lord and Master; hope in anything else is useless. ||1||
ਨੈਣ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸੇ ਦੇਖਿ ਦਰਸਾਵਾ ਗੁਰਿ ਕਰ ਧਾਰੇ ਮੇਰੈ ਮਾਥੇ ॥
nain tripataase dekh darasaavaa gur kar dhaare merai maathe |
My eyes were satisfied and fulfilled, gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, when the Guru placed His Hand on my forehead.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੈ ਅਤੁਲ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਨਮ ਮਰਣ ਭੈ ਲਾਥੇ ॥੨॥੨੦॥੪੩॥
kahu naanak mai atul sukh paaeaa janam maran bhai laathe |2|20|43|
Says Nanak, I have found immeasurable peace; my fear of birth and death is gone. ||2||20||43||

ਲਪਟਿ ਲਪਟਿ ਤਰ ਜਾਇ ਪਿਯਰਵਹਿ ਭੁਜਨ ਭਰਿ ॥
lapatt lapatt tar jaae piyaraveh bhujan bhar |
ਹੋ ਦ੍ਰਿੜ ਆਸਨ ਦੈ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਨ ਇਤ ਉਤ ਜਾਤਿ ਟਰਿ ॥੬॥

ਬਿਹਸਿ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਅਸ ਤਾਹਿ ਬਖਾਨਾ ॥
bihas kuar as taeh bakhaanaa |
ਤੈ ਇਸਤ੍ਰਿਨ ਕੇ ਚਰਿਤ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
tai isatrin ke charit na jaanaa |
ਪੁਰਖ ਭੇਖ ਤੁਹਿ ਸੇਜ ਬੁਲਾਊ ॥
purakh bhekh tuhi sej bulaaoo |
ਤੌ ਮੈ ਤੁਮਰੀ ਯਾਰ ਕਹਾਊ ॥੯॥

ਰੋਮਨਾਸਨੀ ਤਾਹਿ ਲਗਾਈ ॥

ਗਾਇਨ ਭੇਸ ਸਜਨ ਕੋ ਕੀਯਾ ॥੧੦॥

ਪਿਤਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਤਿਹ ਬੋਲਿ ਪਠਾਯੋ ॥
pit baitthe tih bol patthaayo |
ਭਲੇ ਭਲੇ ਗੀਤਾਨ ਗਵਾਯੋ ॥
bhale bhale geetaan gavaayo |
ਸੁਨਿ ਸੁਨਿ ਨਾਦ ਰੀਝਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਰਹਿਯੋ ॥
sun sun naad reejh nrip rahiyo |
ਭਲੀ ਭਲੀ ਗਾਇਨ ਇਹ ਕਹਿਯੋ ॥੧੧॥
bhalee bhalee gaaein ih kahiyo |11|
ਸੰਕਰ ਦੇ ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਉਚਾਰੀ ॥
sankar de ih bhaat uchaaree |
ਸੁਨ ਗਾਇਨ ਤੈ ਬਾਤ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥
sun gaaein tai baat hamaaree |
ਪੁਰਖ ਭੇਸ ਧਰਿ ਤੁਮ ਨਿਤਿ ਐਯਹੁ ॥
purakh bhes dhar tum nit aiyahu |
ਇਹ ਠਾ ਗੀਤਿ ਮਧੁਰਿ ਧੁਨਿ ਗੈਯਹੁ ॥੧੨॥
