ਸੁਣਿ ਸਾਖੀ ਮਨ ਜਪਿ ਪਿਆਰ ॥
sun saakhee man jap piaar |
Listen to the stories of the devotees, O my mind, and meditate with love.
ਅਜਾਮਲੁ ਉਧਰਿਆ ਕਹਿ ਏਕ ਬਾਰ ॥
ajaamal udhariaa keh ek baar |
Ajaamal uttered the Lord's Name once, and was saved.
ਬਾਲਮੀਕੈ ਹੋਆ ਸਾਧਸੰਗੁ ॥
baalameekai hoaa saadhasang |
Baalmeek found the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.
ਧ੍ਰੂ ਕਉ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਸੰਗ ॥੧॥
dhraoo kau miliaa har nisang |1|
The Lord definitely met Dhroo. ||1||
ਤੇਰਿਆ ਸੰਤਾ ਜਾਚਉ ਚਰਨ ਰੇਨ ॥
teriaa santaa jaachau charan ren |
I beg for the dust of the feet of Your Saints.
ਲੇ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਾਵਉ ਕਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਦੇਨ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

Please bless me with Your Mercy, Lord, that I may apply it to my forehead. ||1||Pause||
ਗਨਿਕਾ ਉਧਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕਹੈ ਤੋਤ ॥
ganikaa udharee har kahai tot |
Ganika the prostitute was saved, when her parrot uttered the Lord's Name.
ਗਜਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਧਿਆਇਓ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਓ ਮੋਖ ॥
gajeindr dhiaaeo har keeo mokh |
The elephant meditated on the Lord, and was saved.
ਬਿਪ੍ਰ ਸੁਦਾਮੇ ਦਾਲਦੁ ਭੰਜ ॥
bipr sudaame daalad bhanj |
He delivered the poor Brahmin Sudama out of poverty.
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਤੂ ਭੀ ਭਜੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ॥੨॥
re man too bhee bhaj gobind |2|
O my mind, you too must meditate and vibrate on the Lord of the Universe. ||2||
ਬਧਿਕੁ ਉਧਾਰਿਓ ਖਮਿ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰ ॥
badhik udhaario kham prahaar |
Even the hunter who shot an arrow at Krishna was saved.
ਕੁਬਿਜਾ ਉਧਰੀ ਅੰਗੁਸਟ ਧਾਰ ॥
kubijaa udharee angusatt dhaar |
Kubija the hunchback was saved, when God placed His Feet on her thumb.
ਬਿਦਰੁ ਉਧਾਰਿਓ ਦਾਸਤ ਭਾਇ ॥
bidar udhaario daasat bhaae |
Bidar was saved by his attitude of humility.
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਤੂ ਭੀ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇ ॥੩॥
re man too bhee har dhiaae |3|
O my mind, you too must meditate on the Lord. ||3||
ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦ ਰਖੀ ਹਰਿ ਪੈਜ ਆਪ ॥
prahalaad rakhee har paij aap |
The Lord Himself saved the honor of Prahlaad.
ਬਸਤ੍ਰ ਛੀਨਤ ਦ੍ਰੋਪਤੀ ਰਖੀ ਲਾਜ ॥
basatr chheenat dropatee rakhee laaj |
Even when she was being disrobed in court, Dropatee's honor was preserved.
ਜਿਨਿ ਜਿਨਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਅੰਤ ਬਾਰ ॥
jin jin seviaa ant baar |
Those who have served the Lord, even at the very last instant of their lives, are saved.
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਸੇਵਿ ਤੂ ਪਰਹਿ ਪਾਰ ॥੪॥
re man sev too pareh paar |4|
O my mind, serve Him, and you shall be carried across to the other side. ||4||
ਧੰਨੈ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਬਾਲ ਬੁਧਿ ॥
dhanai seviaa baal budh |
Dhanna served the Lord, with the innocence of a child.
ਤ੍ਰਿਲੋਚਨ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਭਈ ਸਿਧਿ ॥
trilochan gur mil bhee sidh |
Meeting with the Guru, Trilochan attained the perfection of the Siddhas.
ਬੇਣੀ ਕਉ ਗੁਰਿ ਕੀਓ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੁ ॥
benee kau gur keeo pragaas |
The Guru blessed Baynee with His Divine Illumination.
ਰੇ ਮਨ ਤੂ ਭੀ ਹੋਹਿ ਦਾਸੁ ॥੫॥
re man too bhee hohi daas |5|
O my mind, you too must be the Lord's slave. ||5||
ਜੈਦੇਵ ਤਿਆਗਿਓ ਅਹੰਮੇਵ ॥
jaidev tiaagio ahamev |
Jai Dayv gave up his egotism.
ਨਾਈ ਉਧਰਿਓ ਸੈਨੁ ਸੇਵ ॥
naaee udhario sain sev |
Sain the barber was saved through his selfless service.
ਮਨੁ ਡੀਗਿ ਨ ਡੋਲੈ ਕਹੂੰ ਜਾਇ ॥
man ddeeg na ddolai kahoon jaae |
Do not let your mind waver or wander; do not let it go anywhere.
ਮਨ ਤੂ ਭੀ ਤਰਸਹਿ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਾਇ ॥੬॥
man too bhee taraseh saran paae |6|
O my mind, you too shall cross over; seek the Sanctuary of God. ||6||
ਜਿਹ ਅਨੁਗ੍ਰਹੁ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਕੀਓ ਆਪਿ ॥
jih anugrahu tthaakur keeo aap |
O my Lord and Master, You have shown Your Mercy to them.
ਸੇ ਤੈਂ ਲੀਨੇ ਭਗਤ ਰਾਖਿ ॥
se tain leene bhagat raakh |
You saved those devotees.
ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਗੁਣੁ ਅਵਗਣੁ ਨ ਬੀਚਾਰਿਓ ਕੋਇ ॥
tin kaa gun avagan na beechaario koe |
You do not take their merits and demerits into account.
ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਲਗਾ ਸੇਵ ॥੭॥
eih bidh dekh man lagaa sev |7|
Seeing these ways of Yours, I have dedicated my mind to Your service. ||7||
ਕਬੀਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਓ ਏਕ ਰੰਗ ॥
kabeer dhiaaeo ek rang |
Kabeer meditated on the One Lord with love.
ਨਾਮਦੇਵ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਬਸਹਿ ਸੰਗਿ ॥
naamadev har jeeo baseh sang |
Naam Dayv lived with the Dear Lord.
ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਧਿਆਏ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਨੂਪ ॥

Ravi Daas meditated on God, the Incomparably Beautiful.

ਅਨਿਕ ਜਨਮ ਭ੍ਰਮੇ ਜੋਨਿ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
anik janam bhrame jon maeh |
The mortal wanders in reincarnation through countless lifetimes.
ਹਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਨ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਰਕਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥
har simaran bin narak paeh |
Without meditating in remembrance on the Lord, he falls into hell.
ਭਗਤਿ ਬਿਹੂਨਾ ਖੰਡ ਖੰਡ ॥
bhagat bihoonaa khandd khandd |
Without devotional worship, he is cut apart into pieces.
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਜਮੁ ਦੇਤ ਡੰਡ ॥੧॥
bin boojhe jam det ddandd |1|
Without understanding, he is punished by the Messenger of Death. ||1||
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਭਜਹੁ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਮੀਤ ॥
gobind bhajahu mere sadaa meet |
Meditate and vibrate forever on the Lord of the Universe, O my friend.
ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦ ਕਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saach sabad kar sadaa preet |1| rahaau |
Love forever the True Word of the Shabad. ||1||Pause||
ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਨ ਆਵਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਕਾਜ ॥
santokh na aavat kahoon kaaj |
Contentment does not come by any endeavors.
ਧੂੰਮ ਬਾਦਰ ਸਭਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਸਾਜ ॥
dhoonm baadar sabh maaeaa saaj |
All the show of Maya is just a cloud of smoke.
ਪਾਪ ਕਰੰਤੌ ਨਹ ਸੰਗਾਇ ॥
paap karantau neh sangaae |
The mortal does not hesitate to commit sins.
ਬਿਖੁ ਕਾ ਮਾਤਾ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥
bikh kaa maataa aavai jaae |2|
Intoxicated with poison, he comes and goes in reincarnation. ||2||
ਹਉ ਹਉ ਕਰਤ ਬਧੇ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
hau hau karat badhe bikaar |
Acting in egotism and self-conceit, his corruption only increases.
ਮੋਹ ਲੋਭ ਡੂਬੌ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥
moh lobh ddoobau sansaar |
The world is drowning in attachment and greed.
ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਮਨੁ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਆ ॥
kaam krodh man vas keea |
Sexual desire and anger hold the mind in its power.
ਸੁਪਨੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਹਰਿ ਲੀਆ ॥੩॥
supanai naam na har leea |3|
Even in his dreams, he does not chant the Lord's Name. ||3||
ਕਬ ਹੀ ਰਾਜਾ ਕਬ ਮੰਗਨਹਾਰੁ ॥
kab hee raajaa kab manganahaar |
Sometimes he is a king, and sometimes he is a beggar.
ਦੂਖ ਸੂਖ ਬਾਧੌ ਸੰਸਾਰ ॥
dookh sookh baadhau sansaar |
The world is bound by pleasure and pain.
ਮਨ ਉਧਰਣ ਕਾ ਸਾਜੁ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
man udharan kaa saaj naeh |
The mortal makes no arrangements to save himself.
ਪਾਪ ਬੰਧਨ ਨਿਤ ਪਉਤ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੪॥
paap bandhan nit paut jaeh |4|
The bondage of sin continues to hold him. ||4||
ਈਠ ਮੀਤ ਕੋਊ ਸਖਾ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
eetth meet koaoo sakhaa naeh |
He has no beloved friends or companions.
ਆਪਿ ਬੀਜਿ ਆਪੇ ਹੀ ਖਾਂਹਿ ॥
aap beej aape hee khaanhi |
He himself eats what he himself plants.
ਜਾ ਕੈ ਕੀਨੑੈ ਹੋਤ ਬਿਕਾਰ ॥
jaa kai keenai hot bikaar |
He gathers up that which brings corruption;
ਸੇ ਛੋਡਿ ਚਲਿਆ ਖਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਗਵਾਰ ॥੫॥
se chhodd chaliaa khin meh gavaar |5|
leaving them, the fool must depart in an instant. ||5||
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਭਰਮਿਆ ॥
maaeaa mohi bahu bharamiaa |
He wanders in attachment to Maya.
ਕਿਰਤ ਰੇਖ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਮਿਆ ॥
kirat rekh kar karamiaa |
He acts in accordance with the karma of his past actions.
ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰੁ ਅਲਿਪਤੁ ਆਪਿ ॥
karanaihaar alipat aap |
Only the Creator Himself remains detached.
ਨਹੀ ਲੇਪੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਪੁੰਨ ਪਾਪਿ ॥੬॥
nahee lep prabh pun paap |6|
God is not affected by virtue or vice. ||6||
ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਇਆਲ ॥
raakh lehu gobind deaal |
Please save me, O Merciful Lord of the Universe!
ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪੂਰਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਲ ॥
teree saran pooran kripaal |
I seek Your Sanctuary, O Perfect Compassionate Lord.
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਨਹੀ ਠਾਉ ॥
tujh bin doojaa nahee tthaau |
Without You, I have no other place of rest.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦੇਹੁ ਨਾਉ ॥੭॥
kar kirapaa prabh dehu naau |7|
Please take pity on me, God, and bless me with Your Name. ||7||
ਤੂ ਕਰਤਾ ਤੂ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
too karataa too karanahaar |
You are the Creator, and You are the Doer.
ਤੂ ਊਚਾ ਤੂ ਬਹੁ ਅਪਾਰੁ ॥
too aoochaa too bahu apaar |
You are High and Exalted, and You are totally Infinite.
ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਲੜਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
kar kirapaa larr lehu laae |
Please be merciful, and attach me to the hem of Your robe.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾਇ ॥੮॥੨॥

taeh pachhaanat hai na mahaa jarr jaa ko prataap tihoon pur maahee |
ਪੂਜਤ ਹੈ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਕੈ ਤਿਸ ਕੌ ਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਪਰਸੇ ਪਰਲੋਕ ਪਰਾਹੀ ॥
poojat hai prabh kai tis kau jin ke parase paralok paraahee |
ਪਾਪ ਕਰੋ ਪਰਮਾਰਥ ਕੈ ਜਿਹ ਪਾਪਨ ਤੇ ਅਤਿ ਪਾਪ ਡਰਾਹੀ ॥
paap karo paramaarath kai jih paapan te at paap ddaraahee |
ਪਾਇ ਪਰੋ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਕੇ ਪਸੁ ਪਾਹਨ ਮੈ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਰ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧੨॥

ਜੀਵਨ ਮੈ ਜਲ ਮੈ ਥਲ ਮੈ ਸਭ ਰੂਪਨ ਮੈ ਸਭ ਭੂਪਨ ਮਾਹੀ ॥
jeevan mai jal mai thal mai sabh roopan mai sabh bhoopan maahee |
ਸੂਰਜ ਮੈ ਸਸਿ ਮੈ ਨਭ ਮੈ ਜਹ ਹੇਰੌ ਤਹਾ ਚਿਤ ਲਾਇ ਤਹਾ ਹੀ ॥
sooraj mai sas mai nabh mai jeh herau tahaa chit laae tahaa hee |
ਪਾਵਕ ਮੈ ਅਰੁ ਪੌਨ ਹੂੰ ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰਿਥਵੀ ਤਲ ਮੈ ਸੁ ਕਹਾ ਨਹਿ ਜਾਹੀ ॥
paavak mai ar pauan hoon mai prithavee tal mai su kahaa neh jaahee |
ਬ︀ਯਾਪਕ ਹੈ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਕੇ ਬਿਖੈ ਕਛੁ ਪਾਹਨ ਮੈ ਪਰਮੇਸ੍ਵਵਰ ਨਾਹੀ ॥੧੩॥
bayaapak hai sabh hee ke bikhai kachh paahan mai paramesvavar naahee |13|
ਕਾਗਜ ਦੀਪ ਸਭੈ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਅਰੁ ਸਾਤ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਨ ਕੀ ਮਸੁ ਕੈਯੈ ॥
kaagaj deep sabhai kar kai ar saat samundran kee mas kaiyai |
ਕਾਟਿ ਬਨਾਸਪਤੀ ਸਿਗਰੀ ਲਿਖਬੇ ਹੂੰ ਕੌ ਲੇਖਨਿ ਕਾਜ ਬਨੈਯੈ ॥
kaatt banaasapatee sigaree likhabe hoon kau lekhan kaaj banaiyai |
ਸਾਰਸ੍ਵਤੀ ਬਕਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਸਭ ਜੀਵਨ ਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਸਾਠਿ ਲਿਖੈਯੈ ॥
saarasvatee bakataa kar kai sabh jeevan te jug saatth likhaiyai |
ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਯੁਤ ਹੈ ਨਹਿ ਕੈਸੇ ਹੂੰ ਸੋ ਜੜ ਪਾਹਨ ਮੌ ਠਹਰੈਯੈ ॥੧੪॥
jo prabh paayut hai neh kaise hoon so jarr paahan mau tthaharaiyai |14|

jih kih bidh logan bharamaahee |
ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੋ ਦਰਬੁ ਲੂਟਿ ਲੈ ਜਾਹੀ ॥੧੫॥
grih ko darab loott lai jaahee |15|

ਪਾਹਨ ਕੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਕਰੈ ਯਾ ਤੇ ਲਗਤ ਅਚੇਤ ॥੧੬॥

ਅਧਿਕ ਡਿੰਭ ਕਰਿ ਜਗਿ ਦਿਖਾਵੈਂ ॥
adhik ddinbh kar jag dikhaavain |
ਦ੍ਵਾਰ ਦ੍ਵਾਰ ਮਾਗਤ ਨ ਲਜਾਵੈਂ ॥੧੭॥
dvaar dvaar maagat na lajaavain |17|

ਸਿਵ ਸਿਵ ਸਿਵ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਏਕ ਚਰਨ ਇਸਥਿਤ ਕਹੈ ॥
siv siv siv hvai ek charan isathit kahai |
ਜੋ ਕੋਊ ਪੈਸਾ ਏਕ ਦੇਤ ਕਰਿ ਆਇ ਕੈ ॥
jo koaoo paisaa ek det kar aae kai |
ਹੋ ਦਾਤਨ ਲੇਤ ਉਠਾਇ ਸਿਵਹਿ ਬਿਸਰਾਇ ਕੈ ॥੧੮॥
