ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਅਧੁਲੀ ਕਾਰ ॥
dubidhaa duramat adhulee kaar |
In duality and evil-mindedness, the mortal acts blindly.
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਭਰਮੈ ਮਝਿ ਗੁਬਾਰ ॥੧॥
manamukh bharamai majh gubaar |1|
The self-willed manmukh wanders, lost in the darkness. ||1||
ਮਨੁ ਅੰਧੁਲਾ ਅੰਧੁਲੀ ਮਤਿ ਲਾਗੈ ॥
man andhulaa andhulee mat laagai |
The blind man follows blind advice.
ਗੁਰ ਕਰਣੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਭਾਗੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur karanee bin bharam na bhaagai |1| rahaau |
Unless one takes the Guru's Way, his doubt is not dispelled. ||1||Pause||
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਧੁਲੇ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨ ਭਾਈ ॥
manamukh andhule guramat na bhaaee |
The manmukh is blind; he does not like the Guru's Teachings.
ਪਸੂ ਭਏ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ॥੨॥
pasoo bhe abhimaan na jaaee |2|
He has become a beast; he cannot get rid of his egotistical pride. ||2||
ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀਹ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਏ ॥
lakh chauraaseeh jant upaae |
God created 8.4 million species of beings.
ਮੇਰੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਣੇ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸਮਾਏ ॥੩॥
mere tthaakur bhaane siraj samaae |3|
My Lord and Master, by the Pleasure of His Will, creates and destroys them. ||3||
ਸਗਲੀ ਭੂਲੈ ਨਹੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਚਾਰੁ ॥
sagalee bhoolai nahee sabad achaar |
All are deluded and confused, without the Word of the Shabad and good conduct.
ਸੋ ਸਮਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਗੁਰੁ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
so samajhai jis gur karataar |4|
He alone is instructed in this, who is blessed by the Guru, the Creator. ||4||
ਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਚਾਕਰ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਭਾਣੇ ॥
gur ke chaakar tthaakur bhaane |
The Guru's servants are pleasing to our Lord and Master.
ਬਖਸਿ ਲੀਏ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਮ ਕਾਣੇ ॥੫॥
bakhas lee naahee jam kaane |5|
The Lord forgives them, and they no longer fear the Messenger of Death. ||5||
ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਏਕੋ ਭਾਇਆ ॥
jin kai hiradai eko bhaaeaa |
Those who love the One Lord with all their heart
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥੬॥
aape mele bharam chukaaeaa |6|
- He dispels their doubts and unites them with Himself. ||6||
ਬੇਮੁਹਤਾਜੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
bemuhataaj beant apaaraa |
God is Independent, Endless and Infinite.
ਸਚਿ ਪਤੀਜੈ ਕਰਣੈਹਾਰਾ ॥੭॥
sach pateejai karanaihaaraa |7|
The Creator Lord is pleased with Truth. ||7||
ਨਾਨਕ ਭੂਲੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਮਝਾਵੈ ॥
naanak bhoole gur samajhaavai |
O Nanak, the Guru instructs the mistaken soul.
ਏਕੁ ਦਿਖਾਵੈ ਸਾਚਿ ਟਿਕਾਵੈ ॥੮॥੬॥
ek dikhaavai saach ttikaavai |8|6|
He implants the Truth within him, and shows him the One Lord. ||8||6||

ਆਪੇ ਭਵਰਾ ਫੂਲ ਬੇਲਿ ॥
aape bhavaraa fool bel |
He Himself is the bumble bee, the fruit and the vine.
ਆਪੇ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੀਤ ਮੇਲਿ ॥੧॥
aape sangat meet mel |1|
He Himself unites us with the Sangat - the Congregation, and the Guru, our Best Friend. ||1||
ਐਸੀ ਭਵਰਾ ਬਾਸੁ ਲੇ ॥
aisee bhavaraa baas le |
O bumble bee, suck in that fragrance,
ਤਰਵਰ ਫੂਲੇ ਬਨ ਹਰੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

which causes the trees to flower, and the woods to grow lush foliage. ||1||Pause||
ਆਪੇ ਕਵਲਾ ਕੰਤੁ ਆਪਿ ॥

He Himself is Lakshmi, and He Himself is her husband.
ਆਪੇ ਰਾਵੇ ਸਬਦਿ ਥਾਪਿ ॥੨॥

He established the world by Word of His Shabad, and He Himself ravishes it. ||2||
ਆਪੇ ਬਛਰੂ ਗਊ ਖੀਰੁ ॥
aape bachharoo gaoo kheer |
He Himself is the calf, the cow and the milk.
ਆਪੇ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਥੰਮੑੁ ਸਰੀਰੁ ॥੩॥

He Himself is the Support of the body-mansion. ||3||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਣੀ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
aape karanee karanahaar |
He Himself is the Deed, and He Himself is the Doer.
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰਿ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥੪॥
aape guramukh kar beechaar |4|
As Gurmukh, He contemplates Himself. ||4||
ਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਕਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥
too kar kar dekheh karanahaar |
You create the creation, and gaze upon it, O Creator Lord.
ਜੋਤਿ ਜੀਅ ਅਸੰਖ ਦੇਇ ਅਧਾਰੁ ॥੫॥
jot jeea asankh dee adhaar |5|
You give Your Support to the uncounted beings and creatures. ||5||
ਤੂ ਸਰੁ ਸਾਗਰੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਹੀਰੁ ॥
too sar saagar gun gaheer |
You are the Profound, Unfathomable Ocean of Virtue.
ਤੂ ਅਕੁਲ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਪਰਮ ਹੀਰੁ ॥੬॥
too akul niranjan param heer |6|
You are the Unknowable, the Immaculate, the most Sublime Jewel. ||6||
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਣ ਜੋਗੁ ॥
too aape karataa karan jog |
You Yourself are the Creator, with the Potency to create.
ਨਿਹਕੇਵਲੁ ਰਾਜਨ ਸੁਖੀ ਲੋਗੁ ॥੭॥
nihakeval raajan sukhee log |7|
You are the Independent Ruler, whose people are at peace. ||7||
ਨਾਨਕ ਧ੍ਰਾਪੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਆਦਿ ॥
naanak dhraape har naam suaad |
Nanak is satisfied with the subtle taste of the Lord's Name.
ਬਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਾਦਿ ॥੮॥੭॥
bin har gur preetam janam baad |8|7|
Without the Beloved Lord and Master, life is meaningless. ||8||7||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਨਉ ਸਤ ਚਉਦਹ ਤੀਨਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਮਹਲਤਿ ਚਾਰਿ ਬਹਾਲੀ ॥
nau sat chaudah teen chaar kar mahalat chaar bahaalee |
The nine regions, the seven continents, the fourteen worlds, the three qualities and the four ages - You established them all through the four sources of creation, and You seated them in Your mansions.
ਚਾਰੇ ਦੀਵੇ ਚਹੁ ਹਥਿ ਦੀਏ ਏਕਾ ਏਕਾ ਵਾਰੀ ॥੧॥
chaare deeve chahu hath dee ekaa ekaa vaaree |1|
He placed the four lamps, one by one, into the hands of the four ages. ||1||
ਮਿਹਰਵਾਨ ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨ ਮਾਧੌ ਐਸੀ ਸਕਤਿ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
miharavaan madhusoodan maadhau aisee sakat tumaaree |1| rahaau |
O Merciful Lord, Destroyer of demons, Lord of Lakshmi, such is Your Power - Your Shakti. ||1||Pause||
ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਲਸਕਰੁ ਪਾਵਕੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਸਿਕਦਾਰੀ ॥
ghar ghar lasakar paavak teraa dharam kare sikadaaree |
Your army is the fire in the home of each and every heart. And Dharma - righteous living is the ruling chieftain.
ਧਰਤੀ ਦੇਗ ਮਿਲੈ ਇਕ ਵੇਰਾ ਭਾਗੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਭੰਡਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
dharatee deg milai ik veraa bhaag teraa bhanddaaree |2|
The earth is Your great cooking pot; Your beings receive their portions only once. Destiny is Your gate-keeper. ||2||
ਨਾ ਸਾਬੂਰੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੰਗੈ ਨਾਰਦੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰੀ ॥
naa saaboor hovai fir mangai naarad kare khuaaree |
But the mortal becomes unsatisfied, and begs for more; his fickle mind brings him disgrace.
ਲਬੁ ਅਧੇਰਾ ਬੰਦੀਖਾਨਾ ਅਉਗਣ ਪੈਰਿ ਲੁਹਾਰੀ ॥੩॥
lab adheraa bandeekhaanaa aaugan pair luhaaree |3|
Greed is the dark dungeon, and demerits are the shackles on his feet. ||3||
ਪੂੰਜੀ ਮਾਰ ਪਵੈ ਨਿਤ ਮੁਦਗਰ ਪਾਪੁ ਕਰੇ ਕੋੁਟਵਾਰੀ ॥
poonjee maar pavai nit mudagar paap kare kouttavaaree |
His wealth constantly batters him, and sin acts as the police officer.
ਭਾਵੈ ਚੰਗਾ ਭਾਵੈ ਮੰਦਾ ਜੈਸੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ॥੪॥
bhaavai changaa bhaavai mandaa jaisee nadar tumaaree |4|
Whether the mortal is good or bad, he is as You look upon him, O Lord. ||4||
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਕਉ ਅਲਹੁ ਕਹੀਐ ਸੇਖਾਂ ਆਈ ਵਾਰੀ ॥
aad purakh kau alahu kaheeai sekhaan aaee vaaree |
The Primal Lord God is called Allah. The Shaykh's turn has now come.
ਦੇਵਲ ਦੇਵਤਿਆ ਕਰੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਐਸੀ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਚਾਲੀ ॥੫॥
deval devatiaa kar laagaa aisee keerat chaalee |5|
The temples of the gods are subject to taxes; this is what it has come to. ||5||
ਕੂਜਾ ਬਾਂਗ ਨਿਵਾਜ ਮੁਸਲਾ ਨੀਲ ਰੂਪ ਬਨਵਾਰੀ ॥
koojaa baang nivaaj musalaa neel roop banavaaree |
The Muslim devotional pots, calls to prayer, prayers and prayer mats are everywhere; the Lord appears in blue robes.
ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਮੀਆ ਸਭਨਾਂ ਜੀਆਂ ਬੋਲੀ ਅਵਰ ਤੁਮਾਰੀ ॥੬॥
ghar ghar meea sabhanaan jeean bolee avar tumaaree |6|
In each and every home, everyone uses Muslim greetings; your speech has changed, O people. ||6||
ਜੇ ਤੂ ਮੀਰ ਮਹੀਪਤਿ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਕਉਣ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥
je too meer maheepat saahib kudarat kaun hamaaree |
You, O my Lord and Master, are the King of the earth; what power do I have to challenge You?
ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਟ ਸਲਾਮੁ ਕਰਹਿਗੇ ਘਰਿ ਘਰਿ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਤੁਮੑਾਰੀ ॥੭॥
chaare kuntt salaam karahige ghar ghar sifat tumaaree |7|
In the four directions, people bow in humble adoration to You; Your Praises are sung in each and every heart. ||7||
ਤੀਰਥ ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਪੁੰਨ ਦਾਨ ਕਿਛੁ ਲਾਹਾ ਮਿਲੈ ਦਿਹਾੜੀ ॥
teerath sinmrit pun daan kichh laahaa milai dihaarree |
Making pilgrimages to sacred shrines, reading the Simritees and giving donations in charity - these do bring any profit.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਮੇਕਾ ਘੜੀ ਸਮੑਾਲੀ ॥੮॥੧॥੮॥
naanak naam milai vaddiaaee mekaa gharree samaalee |8|1|8|
O Nanak, glorious greatness is obtained in an instant, remembering the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||8||1||8||

nirakh prabhaa tih tarun adhik bauaree bhee |
ਹੋ ਘਰ ਬਾਹਰ ਕੀ ਸੁਧਿ ਛੁਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਸਿਗਰੀ ਗਈ ॥੪॥
ho ghar baahar kee sudh chhutt kar sigaree gee |4|
ਨਿਕਸਿ ਠਾਢਿ ਭੀ ਨੌ ਸਤ ਕੁਅਰਿ ਸਿੰਗਾਰ ਕਰਿ ॥
nikas tthaadt bhee nau sat kuar singaar kar |
ਜੋਰਿ ਰਹੀ ਚਖੁ ਚਾਰਿ ਸੁ ਲਾਜ ਬਿਸਾਰਿ ਕਰਿ ॥
jor rahee chakh chaar su laaj bisaar kar |
ਨਿਰਖਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਚਕਿ ਰਹਾ ਤਰੁਨਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਜਤਨ ॥
nirakh nripat chak rahaa tarun kete jatan |
ਹੋ ਨਰੀ ਨਾਗਨੀ ਨਗੀ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ਕੌਨ ਮਨ ॥੫॥
ho naree naaganee nagee bichaaree kauan man |5|
ਚਾਰੁ ਚਿਤ੍ਰਨੀ ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਮਾ ਜਾਨਿਯੈ ॥
chaar chitranee chitr kee pratimaa jaaniyai |
ਪਰੀ ਪਦਮਿਨੀ ਪ੍ਰਕ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ਮਾਨਿਯੈ ॥
paree padaminee prakrit paarabatee maaniyai |
ਏਕ ਬਾਰ ਜੌ ਐਸੀ ਭੇਟਨ ਪਾਇਯੈ ॥

ਹੋ ਆਠ ਜਨਮ ਲਗਿ ਪਲ ਪਲ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਇਯੈ ॥੬॥

ਅਧਿਕ ਸਜਨ ਸੌ ਨੇਹ ਜਤਾਯੋ ॥੯॥
adhik sajan sau neh jataayo |9|
ਤਿਹ ਰਾਨੀ ਸੌ ਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਅਤਿ ਹਿਤ ॥
tih raanee sau pat ko at hit |
ਨਿਸਿ ਕਹ ਤਾਹਿ ਨ ਛਾਡਤ ਇਤ ਉਤ ॥
nis keh taeh na chhaaddat it ut |
ਸੋਤ ਸਦਾ ਤਿਹ ਗਰੇ ਲਗਾਏ ॥
sot sadaa tih gare lagaae |
ਭਾਤਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਸੌ ਹਰਖ ਬਢਾਏ ॥੧੦॥
bhaat anik sau harakh badtaae |10|
ਰਾਨੀ ਘਾਤ ਕੋਊ ਨਹਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
raanee ghaat koaoo neh paavai |
ਜਿਹ ਛਲ ਤਾ ਸੌ ਭੋਗ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
jih chhal taa sau bhog kamaavai |
ਰਾਜਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੋਤ ਸੰਗ ਤਾ ਕੇ ॥
raajaa sadaa sot sang taa ke |
ਕਿਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਸੰਗ ਮਿਲੈ ਇਹ ਵਾ ਕੇ ॥੧੧॥
kih bidh sang milai ih vaa ke |11|
ਬਿਨਾ ਮਿਲੇ ਤਿਹ ਕਲ ਨਹਿ ਪਰਈ ॥
binaa mile tih kal neh paree |
ਰਾਜਾ ਸੋਤ ਸੰਗ ਤੇ ਡਰਈ ॥
raajaa sot sang te ddaree |
ਜਬ ਸ੍ਵੈ ਗਯੋ ਪਤਿਹਿ ਲਖਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
jab svai gayo patihi lakh paayo |
ਵਹੈ ਘਾਤ ਲਖਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਬੁਲਾਯੋ ॥੧੨॥
vahai ghaat lakh taeh bulaayo |12|
ਪਠੈ ਸਹਚਰੀ ਲਯੋ ਬੁਲਾਈ ॥
patthai sahacharee layo bulaaee |
ਬਹੁ ਬਿਧਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਕਹਾ ਸਮੁਝਾਈ ॥
bahu bidh taeh kahaa samujhaaee |
ਰਾਨੀ ਕਹਾ ਰਾਵ ਸੋ ਸੋਈ ॥
raanee kahaa raav so soee |
ਯੌ ਭਜਿਯਹੁ ਜ︀ਯੋਂ ਜਗੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੧੩॥

ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੌਚ ਤਿਹ ਠਾ ਤਬ ਆਯੋ ॥
chitr kauach tih tthaa tab aayo |
ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਨੀ ਜਾਨਿ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
raajaa raanee jaan na paayo |
ਰਾਜਾ ਕੀ ਜਾਘੈ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨੀ ॥
raajaa kee jaaghai geh leenee |
ਬਲ ਸੋ ਐਂਚਿ ਆਪੁ ਤਰ ਕੀਨੀ ॥੧੪॥
bal so ainch aap tar keenee |14|
ਤਬ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਜਗਾ ਕੋਪ ਕਰਿ ਭਾਰਾ ॥
tab nrip jagaa kop kar bhaaraa |
ਚੋਰ ਚੋਰ ਕਹਿ ਖੜਗ ਸੰਭਾਰਾ ॥
chor chor keh kharrag sanbhaaraa |
ਰਾਨੀ ਜਗੀ ਹਾਥ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨਾ ॥
raanee jagee haath geh leenaa |
ਯੌ ਜੜ ਕੌ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਉਤਰ ਦੀਨਾ ॥੧੫॥
