ਮਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਭਰਮਿ ਭਰਮਿ ਬਹੁ ਧਾਵੈ ਤਿਲੁ ਘਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
man khin khin bharam bharam bahu dhaavai til ghar nahee vaasaa paaeeai |
Each and every moment, my mind roams and rambles, and runs all over the place. It does not stay in its own home, even for an instant.
ਗੁਰਿ ਅੰਕਸੁ ਸਬਦੁ ਦਾਰੂ ਸਿਰਿ ਧਾਰਿਓ ਘਰਿ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਆਣਿ ਵਸਾਈਐ ॥੧॥
gur ankas sabad daaroo sir dhaario ghar mandar aan vasaaeeai |1|
But when the bridle of the Shabad, the Word of God, is placed over its head, it returns to dwell in its own home. ||1||
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਜੀਉ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥
gobind jeeo satasangat mel har dhiaaeeai |
O Dear Lord of the Universe, lead me to join the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, so that I may meditate on You, Lord.
ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਇਆ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਧਿ ਲਗਾਈਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
haumai rog geaa sukh paaeaa har sehaj samaadh lagaaeeai |1| rahaau |
I am cured of the disease of egotism, and I have found peace; I have intuitively entered into the state of Samaadhi. ||1||Pause||
ਘਰਿ ਰਤਨ ਲਾਲ ਬਹੁ ਮਾਣਕ ਲਾਦੇ ਮਨੁ ਭ੍ਰਮਿਆ ਲਹਿ ਨ ਸਕਾਈਐ ॥
ghar ratan laal bahu maanak laade man bhramiaa leh na sakaaeeai |
This house is loaded with countless gems, jewels, rubies and emeralds, but the wandering mind cannot find them.
ਜਿਉ ਓਡਾ ਕੂਪੁ ਗੁਹਜ ਖਿਨ ਕਾਢੈ ਤਿਉ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਲਹਾਈਐ ॥੨॥
jiau oddaa koop guhaj khin kaadtai tiau satigur vasat lahaaeeai |2|
As the water-diviner finds the hidden water, and the well is then dug in an instant, so do we find the object of the Name through the True Guru. ||2||
ਜਿਨ ਐਸਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਾਧੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਨਰ ਜੀਵਾਈਐ ॥
jin aisaa satigur saadh na paaeaa te dhrig dhrig nar jeevaaeeai |
Those who do not find such a Holy True Guru - cursed, cursed are the lives of those people.
ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪੁੰਨਿ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਕਉਡੀ ਬਦਲੈ ਜਾਈਐ ॥੩॥
janam padaarath pun fal paaeaa kauddee badalai jaaeeai |3|
The treasure of this human life is obtained when one's virtues bear fruit, but it is lost in exchange for a mere shell. ||3||
ਮਧੁਸੂਦਨ ਹਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਈਐ ॥
madhusoodan har dhaar prabh kirapaa kar kirapaa guroo milaaeeai |
O Lord God, please be merciful to me; be merciful, and lead me to meet the Guru.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਿਰਬਾਣ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੪॥੪॥੬॥
jan naanak nirabaan pad paaeaa mil saadhoo har gun gaaeeai |4|4|6|
Servant Nanak has attained the state of Nirvaanaa; meeting with the Holy people, he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||4||4||6||

ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣੁ ਭਇਆ ਦੁਖੁ ਬਿਖਿਆ ਦੇਹ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੁੰਞੀ ਸੁੰਞੁ ॥
aavan jaan bheaa dukh bikhiaa deh manamukh sunyee suny |
Coming and going, he suffers the pains of vice and corruption; the body of the self-willed manmukh is desolate and vacant.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਪਲੁ ਨਹੀ ਚੇਤਿਆ ਜਮਿ ਪਕਰੇ ਕਾਲਿ ਸਲੁੰਞੁ ॥੧॥
raam naam khin pal nahee chetiaa jam pakare kaal saluny |1|
He does not dwell on the Lord's Name, even for an instant, and so the Messenger of Death seizes him by his hair. ||1||
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਜੀਉ ਬਿਖੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਮਤਾ ਮੁੰਞੁ ॥
gobind jeeo bikh haumai mamataa muny |
O Dear Lord of the Universe, please rid me of the poison of egotism and attachment.
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਰੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਭੁੰਞੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
satasangat gur kee har piaaree mil sangat har ras bhuny |1| rahaau |
The Sat Sangat, Guru's True Congregation is so dear to the Lord. So join the Sangat, and taste the sublime essence of the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਾਧ ਦਇਆ ਕਰਿ ਮੇਲਹੁ ਸਰਣਾਗਤਿ ਸਾਧੂ ਪੰਞੁ ॥
satasangat saadh deaa kar melahu saranaagat saadhoo pany |
Please be kind to me, and unite me with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation of the Holy; I seek the Sanctuary of the Holy.
ਹਮ ਡੁਬਦੇ ਪਾਥਰ ਕਾਢਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮੑ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਦੁਖ ਭੰਞੁ ॥੨॥
ham ddubade paathar kaadt lehu prabh tuma deen deaal dukh bhany |2|
I am a heavy stone, sinking down - please lift me up and pull me out! O God, Merciful to the meek, You are the Destroyer of sorrow. ||2||
ਹਰਿ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਧਾਰਹੁ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਬੁਧਿ ਲੰਞੁ ॥
har usatat dhaarahu rid antar suaamee satasangat mil budh lany |
I enshrine the Praises of my Lord and Master within my heart; joining the Sat Sangat, my intellect is enlightened.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੈ ਹਮ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਲਗਾਨੀ ਹਮ ਹਰਿ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਘੁਮਿ ਵੰਞੁ ॥੩॥
har naamai ham preet lagaanee ham har vittahu ghum vany |3|
I have fallen in love with the Lord's Name; I am a sacrifice to the Lord. ||3||
ਜਨ ਕੇ ਪੂਰਿ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੇਵਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਲੰਞੁ ॥
jan ke poor manorath har prabh har naam devahu har lany |
O Lord God, please fulfill the desires of Your humble servant; please bless me with Your Name, O Lord.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਅਨਦੁ ਭਇਆ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੁ ਦੀਓ ਹਰਿ ਭੰਞੁ ॥੪॥੫॥੭॥੧੨॥੧੮॥੭॥੩੭॥
jan naanak man tan anad bheaa hai gur mantru deeo har bhany |4|5|7|12|18|7|37|
Servant Nanak's mind and body are filled with ecstasy; the Guru has blessed him with the Mantra of the Lord's Name. ||4||5||7||12||18||7||37||

gandharabee apasaraa kavan ih jaaniyai |
ਹੋ ਰਵੀ ਸਸੀ ਬਾਸਵੀ ਪਾਰਬਤੀ ਮਾਨਿਯੈ ॥੨੬॥
ho ravee sasee baasavee paarabatee maaniyai |26|
ਰਾਜ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਨਿਰਖ ਤਹ ਰਹਾ ਲੁਭਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
raaj kumaar nirakh teh rahaa lubhaae kai |
ਪੂਛਤ ਭਯੋ ਚਲਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਤੀਰ ਤਿਹ ਜਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
poochhat bhayo chal taeh teer tih jaae kai |
ਨਰੀ ਨਾਗਨੀ ਨਗਨੀ ਇਨ ਤੇ ਕਵਨਿ ਤੁਯ ॥
naree naaganee naganee in te kavan tuy |
ਹੋ ਕਵਨ ਸਾਚੁ ਕਹਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਤਾ ਤੈ ਏਸ ਭੁਅ ॥੨੭॥

ਹੋ ਪਤਿ ਸੁਤ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਸੰਘਾਰਿ ਲਹੁ ਸੁਤ ਛਲਿ ਪਿਯ ਕਿਯੋ ॥੨੯॥

ਰੈਨਿ ਦਿਵਸ ਤਪਸਾ ਕੇ ਬਿਖੈ ਬਿਤਾਵਈ ॥
rain divas tapasaa ke bikhai bitaavee |
ਹੋ ਰਾਨੀ ਕੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਭੂਲਿ ਨ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਆਵਈ ॥੨॥
ho raanee ke grih bhool na kab hee aavee |2|
ਰਾਨੀ ਏਕ ਪੁਰਖ ਸੌ ਅਤਿ ਹਿਤ ਠਾਨਿ ਕੈ ॥

ਰਮਤ ਭਈ ਤਿਹ ਸੰਗ ਅਧਿਕ ਰੁਚਿ ਮਾਨਿ ਕੈ ॥
ramat bhee tih sang adhik ruch maan kai |
ਸੋਤ ਹੁਤੀ ਸੁਪਨਾ ਮਹਿ ਸਿਵ ਦਰਸਨ ਦਿਯੋ ॥
sot hutee supanaa meh siv darasan diyo |
ਹੋ ਬਚਨ ਆਪਨੇ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਹਸਿ ਮੁਹਿ ਯੌ ਕਿਯੋ ॥੩॥

ਜੋਤਿ ਆਪਨੇ ਸੌ ਤਵ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਹੋ ॥
jot aapane sau tav jot milaae ho |
ਹੋ ਤੁਹਿ ਕਹ ਜੀਵਤ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਸੁ ਜਗਤਿ ਦਿਖਾਇ ਹੌ ॥੪॥
ho tuhi keh jeevat mukat su jagat dikhaae hau |4|
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਤਵ ਆਗ︀ਯਾ ਲੈ ਪਤਿ ਤਹਿ ਜਾਇ ਹੌ ॥
taa te tav aagayaa lai pat teh jaae hau |
ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਸਿਵ ਕੀ ਪੂਜਾ ਅਧਿਕ ਰਿਝਾਇ ਹੌ ॥
kar kai siv kee poojaa adhik rijhaae hau |
ਮੋ ਕਹ ਜੀਵਤ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਵ ਕਰਹਿਾਂਗੇ ॥
mo keh jeevat mukat sadaa siv karahiaange |
ਹੋ ਸਪਤ ਮਾਤ੍ਰ ਕੁਲ ਸਪਤ ਪਿਤਰ ਕੁਲ ਤਰਹਿਾਂਗੇ ॥੫॥
