ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਤਨ ਕੋਠੜੀ ਗੜ ਮੰਦਰਿ ਏਕ ਲੁਕਾਨੀ ॥
raam naam ratan kottharree garr mandar ek lukaanee |
The Lord's Name is a jewel, hidden in a chamber of the palace of the body-fortress.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਖੋਜੀਐ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ॥੧॥
satigur milai ta khojeeai mil jotee jot samaanee |1|
When one meets the True Guru, then he searches and finds it, and his light merges with the Divine Light. ||1||
ਮਾਧੋ ਸਾਧੂ ਜਨ ਦੇਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
maadho saadhoo jan dehu milaae |
O Lord, lead me to meet with the Holy Person, the Guru.
ਦੇਖਤ ਦਰਸੁ ਪਾਪ ਸਭਿ ਨਾਸਹਿ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
dekhat daras paap sabh naaseh pavitr param pad paae |1| rahaau |
Gazing upon the Blessed Vision of His Darshan, all my sins are erased, and I obtain the supreme, sublime, sanctified status. ||1||Pause||
ਪੰਚ ਚੋਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਲਾਗੇ ਨਗਰੀਆ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਧਨੁ ਹਿਰਿਆ ॥
panch chor mil laage nagareea raam naam dhan hiriaa |
The five thieves join together and plunder the body-village, stealing the wealth of the Lord's Name.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਖੋਜ ਪਰੇ ਤਬ ਪਕਰੇ ਧਨੁ ਸਾਬਤੁ ਰਾਸਿ ਉਬਰਿਆ ॥੨॥
guramat khoj pare tab pakare dhan saabat raas ubariaa |2|
But through the Guru's Teachings, they are traced and caught, and this wealth is recovered intact. ||2||
ਪਾਖੰਡ ਭਰਮ ਉਪਾਵ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਰਿਦ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ॥
paakhandd bharam upaav kar thaake rid antar maaeaa maaeaa |
Practicing hypocrisy and superstition, people have grown weary of the effort, but still, deep within their hearts, they yearn for Maya, Maya.
ਸਾਧੂ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਪੁਰਖਪਤਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਅੰਧੇਰੁ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
saadhoo purakh purakhapat paaeaa agiaan andher gavaaeaa |3|
By the Grace of the Holy Person, I have met with the Lord, the Primal Being, and the darkness of ignorance is dispelled. ||3||
ਜਗੰਨਾਥ ਜਗਦੀਸ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਸਾਧੁ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ॥
jaganaath jagadees gusaaee kar kirapaa saadh milaavai |
The Lord, the Lord of the Earth, the Lord of the Universe, in His Mercy, leads me to meet the Holy Person, the Guru.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਿਤ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ॥੪॥੧॥੩॥
naanak saant hovai man antar nit hiradai har gun gaavai |4|1|3|
O Nanak, peace then comes to abide deep within my mind, and I constantly sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord within my heart. ||4||1||3||

ਤੁਮੑ ਵਡ ਪੁਰਖ ਵਡ ਅਗਮ ਗੁਸਾਈ ਹਮ ਕੀਰੇ ਕਿਰਮ ਤੁਮਨਛੇ ॥
tuma vadd purakh vadd agam gusaaee ham keere kiram tumanachhe |
You are the Great Supreme Being, the Vast and Inaccessible Lord of the World; I am a mere insect, a worm created by You.
ਹਰਿ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਕਰਹੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਹਮ ਬਨਛੇ ॥੧॥
har deen deaal karahu prabh kirapaa gur satigur charan ham banachhe |1|
O Lord, Merciful to the meek, please grant Your Grace; O God, I long for the feet of the Guru, the True Guru. ||1||
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਜੀਉ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮੇਲਿ ਕਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਛੇ ॥
gobind jeeo satasangat mel kar kripachhe |
O Dear Lord of the Universe, please be merciful and unite me with the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation.
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੇ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਮਲੁ ਭਰਿਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹਨਛੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
janam janam ke kilavikh mal bhariaa mil sangat kar prabh hanachhe |1| rahaau |
I was overflowing with the filthy sins of countless past lives. But joining the Sangat, God made me pure again. ||1||Pause||
ਤੁਮੑਰਾ ਜਨੁ ਜਾਤਿ ਅਵਿਜਾਤਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਓ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਵੀਛੇ ॥
tumaraa jan jaat avijaataa har japio patit paveechhe |
Your humble servant, whether of high class or low class, O Lord - by meditating on You, the sinner becomes pure.
ਹਰਿ ਕੀਓ ਸਗਲ ਭਵਨ ਤੇ ਊਪਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੋਭਾ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਦਿਨਛੇ ॥੨॥
har keeo sagal bhavan te aoopar har sobhaa har prabh dinachhe |2|
The Lord exalts and elevates him above the whole world, and the Lord God blesses him with the Lord's Glory. ||2||
ਜਾਤਿ ਅਜਾਤਿ ਕੋਈ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਧਿਆਵੈ ਸਭਿ ਪੂਰੇ ਮਾਨਸ ਤਿਨਛੇ ॥
jaat ajaat koee prabh dhiaavai sabh poore maanas tinachhe |
Anyone who meditates on God, whether of high class or low class, will have all of his hopes and desires fulfilled.
ਸੇ ਧੰਨਿ ਵਡੇ ਵਡ ਪੂਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਜਿਨੑ ਹਰਿ ਧਾਰਿਓ ਹਰਿ ਉਰਛੇ ॥੩॥
se dhan vadde vadd poore har jan jina har dhaario har urachhe |3|
Those humble servants of the Lord who enshrine the Lord within their hearts, are blessed, and are made great and totally perfect. ||3||
ਹਮ ਢੀਂਢੇ ਢੀਮ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਧਾਰਿ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਮਿਲਛੇ ॥
ham dteendte dteem bahut at bhaaree har dhaar kripaa prabh milachhe |
I am so low, I am an utterly heavy lump of clay. Please shower Your Mercy on me, Lord, and unite me with Yourself.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਤੂਠੇ ਹਮ ਕੀਏ ਪਤਿਤ ਪਵੀਛੇ ॥੪॥੨॥੪॥
jan naanak gur paaeaa har tootthe ham kee patit paveechhe |4|2|4|
The Lord, in His Mercy, has led servant Nanak to find the Guru; I was a sinner, and now I have become immaculate and pure. ||||4||2||4||

ਮੇਰਾ ਇਕੁ ਖਿਨੁ ਮਨੂਆ ਰਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਨਿਤ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਰਸਿ ਗੀਧੇ ॥
meraa ik khin manooaa reh na sakai nit har har naam ras geedhe |
My mind cannot survive, even for an instant, without the Lord. I drink in continually the sublime essence of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਜਿਉ ਬਾਰਿਕੁ ਰਸਕਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਥਨਿ ਮਾਤਾ ਥਨਿ ਕਾਢੇ ਬਿਲਲ ਬਿਲੀਧੇ ॥੧॥
jiau baarik rasak pario than maataa than kaadte bilal bileedhe |1|
It is like a baby, who joyfully sucks at his mother's breast; when the breast is withdrawn, he weeps and cries. ||1||
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਜੀਉ ਮੇਰੇ ਮਨ ਤਨ ਨਾਮ ਹਰਿ ਬੀਧੇ ॥
gobind jeeo mere man tan naam har beedhe |
O Dear Lord of the Universe, my mind and body are pierced through by the Name of the Lord.
ਵਡੈ ਭਾਗਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਵਿਚਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਨਗਰ ਹਰਿ ਸੀਧੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
vaddai bhaag gur satigur paaeaa vich kaaeaa nagar har seedhe |1| rahaau |
By great good fortune, I have found the Guru, the True Guru, and in the body-village, the Lord has revealed Himself. ||1||Pause||
ਜਨ ਕੇ ਸਾਸ ਸਾਸ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਬਿਰਹਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੂ ਹਰਿ ਬੀਧੇ ॥
jan ke saas saas hai jete har bireh prabhoo har beedhe |
Each and every breath of the Lord's humble servant is pierced through with love of the Lord God.
ਜਿਉ ਜਲ ਕਮਲ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਜਲ ਦੇਖੇ ਸੁਕਲੀਧੇ ॥੨॥
jiau jal kamal preet at bhaaree bin jal dekhe sukaleedhe |2|
As the lotus is totally in love with the water and withers away without seeing the water, so am I in love with the Lord. ||2||
ਜਨ ਜਪਿਓ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਨਰਹਰਿ ਉਪਦੇਸਿ ਗੁਰੂ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਧੇ ॥
jan japio naam niranjan narahar upades guroo har preedhe |
The Lord's humble servant chants the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord; through the Guru's Teachings, the Lord reveals Himself.
ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕੀ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਲੁ ਨਿਕਸੀ ਹਰਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਲਿ ਨੀਧੇ ॥੩॥
janam janam kee haumai mal nikasee har amrit har jal needhe |3|
The filth of egotism which stained me for countless lifetimes has been washed away, by the Ambrosial Water of the Ocean of the Lord. ||3||
ਹਮਰੇ ਕਰਮ ਨ ਬਿਚਰਹੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਤੁਮੑ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਹੁ ਅਪਨੀਧੇ ॥
hamare karam na bicharahu tthaakur tuma paij rakhahu apaneedhe |
Please, do not take my karma into account, O my Lord and Master; please save the honor of Your slave.
ਹਰਿ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁਣਿ ਬਿਨਉ ਬੇਨਤੀ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਵੀਧੇ ॥੪॥੩॥੫॥
har bhaavai sun binau benatee jan naanak saran paveedhe |4|3|5|
O Lord, if it pleases You, hear my prayer; servant Nanak seeks Your Sanctuary. ||4||3||5||

ਖੇਲਤ ਹੁਤੋ ਅਖਿਟ ਸੁਤ ਜਹਾ ॥
khelat huto akhitt sut jahaa |
ਹਰਨੀ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਨਿਕਸਤ ਭੀ ਤਹਾ ॥੨੨॥
haranee hvai nikasat bhee tahaa |22|
ਤਾ ਪਾਛੇ ਤਿਹ ਸੁਤ ਹੈ ਡਾਰਾ ॥
taa paachhe tih sut hai ddaaraa |
ਸੰਗੀ ਕਿਸੂ ਨ ਓਰ ਨਿਹਾਰਾ ॥
sangee kisoo na or nihaaraa |
ਏਕਲ ਜਾਤ ਦੂਰਿ ਭਯੋ ਤਹਾ ॥
ekal jaat door bhayo tahaa |
ਥੋ ਬਨ ਘੋਰ ਭਯਾਨਕ ਜਹਾ ॥੨੩॥

ਸਾਲ ਤਮਾਲ ਜਹਾ ਦ੍ਰੁਮ ਭਾਰੇ ॥

ਨਿੰਬੂ ਕਦਮ ਸੁ ਬਟ ਜਟਿਯਾਰੇ ॥
ninboo kadam su batt jattiyaare |
ਸੀਬਰ ਤਾਰ ਖਜੂਰੇ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
seebar taar khajoore bhaaree |
ਨਿਜ ਹਾਥਨ ਜਨੁ ਈਸ ਸੁਧਾਰੀ ॥੨੪॥
nij haathan jan ees sudhaaree |24|
ਮ੍ਰਿਗੀ ਜਾਇ ਤਹ ਗਈ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥
mrigee jaae teh gee bhulaaee |
ਉਤਮਾਗਨਾ ਭੇਸ ਬਨਾਈ ॥
autamaaganaa bhes banaaee |
ਆਨਿ ਅਪਨ ਤਿਹ ਰੂਪ ਦਿਖਾਰਾ ॥
aan apan tih roop dikhaaraa |
ਰਾਜ ਕੁਅਰ ਮੋਹਿਤ ਕਰਿ ਡਾਰਾ ॥੨੫॥
