ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One Universal Creator God. Truth Is The Name. Creative Being Personified. No Fear. No Hatred. Image Of The Undying. Beyond Birth. Self-Existent. By Guru's Grace:
ਤੁਝ ਤੇ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥
tujh te baahar kichhoo na hoe |
Without You, nothing happens.
ਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖਹਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸੋਇ ॥੧॥
too kar kar dekheh jaaneh soe |1|
You create the creatures, and gazing on them, you know them. ||1||
ਕਿਆ ਕਹੀਐ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
kiaa kaheeai kichh kahee na jaae |
What can I say? I cannot say anything.
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਅਹੈ ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo kichh ahai sabh teree rajaae |1| rahaau |
Whatever exists, is by Your Will. ||Pause||
ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੁ ਤੇਰੈ ਪਾਸਿ ॥
jo kichh karanaa su terai paas |
Whatever is to be done, rests with You.
ਕਿਸੁ ਆਗੈ ਕੀਚੈ ਅਰਦਾਸਿ ॥੨॥
kis aagai keechai aradaas |2|
Unto whom should I offer my prayer? ||2||
ਆਖਣੁ ਸੁਨਣਾ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
aakhan sunanaa teree baanee |
I speak and hear the Bani of Your Word.
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸਰਬ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ ॥੩॥
too aape jaaneh sarab viddaanee |3|
You Yourself know all Your Wondrous Play. ||3||
ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਜਾਣੈ ਆਪਿ ॥
kare karaae jaanai aap |
You Yourself act, and inspire all to act; only You Yourself know.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਤਰੇ ਮੁਨਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਦਿਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾਦਿ ਤਰੇ ॥
gur kai sabad tare mun kete indraadik brahamaad tare |
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, so many silent sages have been saved; Indra and Brahma have also been saved.
ਸਨਕ ਸਨੰਦਨ ਤਪਸੀ ਜਨ ਕੇਤੇ ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਰੇ ॥੧॥
sanak sanandan tapasee jan kete gur parasaadee paar pare |1|
Sanak, Sanandan and many humble men of austerity, by Guru's Grace, have been carried across to the other side. ||1||
ਭਵਜਲੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਕਿਉ ਤਰੀਐ ॥
bhavajal bin sabadai kiau tareeai |
Without the Word of the Shabad, how can anyone cross over the terrifying world-ocean?
ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਜਗੁ ਰੋਗਿ ਬਿਆਪਿਆ ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਡੁਬਿ ਡੁਬਿ ਮਰੀਐ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naam binaa jag rog biaapiaa dubidhaa ddub ddub mareeai |1| rahaau |
Without the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the world is entangled in the disease of duality, and is drowned, drowned, and dies. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰੁ ਦੇਵਾ ਗੁਰੁ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣ ਸੋਝੀ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵਾ ॥
gur devaa gur alakh abhevaa tribhavan sojhee gur kee sevaa |
The Guru is Divine; the Guru is Inscrutable and Mysterious. Serving the Guru, the three worlds are known and understood.
ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਗੁਰਿ ਦਾਤੈ ਪਾਇਆ ਅਲਖ ਅਭੇਵਾ ॥੨॥
aape daat karee gur daatai paaeaa alakh abhevaa |2|
The Guru, the Giver, has Himself given me the Gift; I have obtained the Inscrutable, Mysterious Lord. ||2||
ਮਨੁ ਰਾਜਾ ਮਨੁ ਮਨ ਤੇ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਮਨਸਾ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥
man raajaa man man te maaniaa manasaa maneh samaaee |
The mind is the king; the mind is appeased and satisfied through the mind itself, and desire is stilled in the mind.
ਮਨੁ ਜੋਗੀ ਮਨੁ ਬਿਨਸਿ ਬਿਓਗੀ ਮਨੁ ਸਮਝੈ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈ ॥੩॥
man jogee man binas biogee man samajhai gun gaaee |3|
The mind is the Yogi, the mind wastes away in separation from the Lord; singing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, the mind is instructed and reformed. ||3||
ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਿਆ ਤੇ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
gur te man maariaa sabad veechaariaa te virale sansaaraa |
How very rare are those in this world who, through the Guru, subdue their minds, and contemplate the Word of the Shabad.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਭਰਿਪੁਰਿ ਲੀਣਾ ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਿਸਤਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੧॥੨॥
naanak saahib bharipur leenaa saach sabad nisataaraa |4|1|2|
O Nanak, our Lord and Master is All-pervading; through the True Word of the Shabad, we are emancipated. ||4||1||2||

ਨੈਨੀ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਨਹੀ ਤਨੁ ਹੀਨਾ ਜਰਿ ਜੀਤਿਆ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਾਲੋ ॥
nainee drisatt nahee tan heenaa jar jeetiaa sir kaalo |
The eyes lose their sight, and the body withers away; old age overtakes the mortal, and death hangs over his head.
ਰੂਪੁ ਰੰਗੁ ਰਹਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਸਾਚਾ ਕਿਉ ਛੋਡੈ ਜਮ ਜਾਲੋ ॥੧॥
roop rang rehas nahee saachaa kiau chhoddai jam jaalo |1|
Beauty, loving attachment and the pleasures of life are not permanent. How can anyone escape from the noose of death? ||1||
ਪ੍ਰਾਣੀ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਇਓ ॥
praanee har jap janam geo |
O mortal, meditate on the Lord - your life is passing away!
ਸਾਚ ਸਬਦ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਭਇਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saach sabad bin kabahu na chhoottas birathaa janam bheo |1| rahaau |
Without the True Word of the Shabad, you shall never be released, and your life shall be totally useless. ||1||Pause||
ਤਨ ਮਹਿ ਕਾਮੁ ਕ੍ਰੋਧੁ ਹਉ ਮਮਤਾ ਕਠਿਨ ਪੀਰ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰੀ ॥
tan meh kaam krodh hau mamataa katthin peer at bhaaree |
Within the body are sexual desire, anger, egotism and attachment. This pain is so great, and so difficult to endure.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰਾਮ ਜਪਹੁ ਰਸੁ ਰਸਨਾ ਇਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਤਰੁ ਤੂ ਤਾਰੀ ॥੨॥
guramukh raam japahu ras rasanaa in bidh tar too taaree |2|
As Gurmukh, chant the Lord's Name, and savor it with your tongue; in this way, you shall cross over to the other side. ||2||
ਬਹਰੇ ਕਰਨ ਅਕਲਿ ਭਈ ਹੋਛੀ ਸਬਦ ਸਹਜੁ ਨਹੀ ਬੂਝਿਆ ॥
bahare karan akal bhee hochhee sabad sehaj nahee boojhiaa |
Your ears are deaf, and your intellect is worthless, and still, you do not intuitively understand the Word of the Shabad.
ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਹਾਰਿਆ ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਅੰਧੁ ਨ ਸੂਝਿਆ ॥੩॥
janam padaarath manamukh haariaa bin gur andh na soojhiaa |3|
The self-willed manmukh wastes this priceless human life and loses it. Without the Guru, the blind person cannot see. ||3||
ਰਹੈ ਉਦਾਸੁ ਆਸ ਨਿਰਾਸਾ ਸਹਜ ਧਿਆਨਿ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ॥
rahai udaas aas niraasaa sehaj dhiaan bairaagee |
Whoever remains detached and free of desire in the midst of desire - and whoever, unattached, intuitively meditates on the Celestial Lord
ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ॥੪॥੨॥੩॥
pranavat naanak guramukh chhoottas raam naam liv laagee |4|2|3|
- prays Nanak, as Gurmukh, he is released. He is lovingly attuned to the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||4||||2||3||

ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਦਾਰਿਦ੍ਰ ਤਵ ਦੈਹੋ ਸਕਲ ਮਿਟਾਇ ॥੫॥

ਰਸ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਰਸਤੀ ਭਈ ਅਕਬਰ ਦਯੋ ਭੁਲਾਇ ॥੭॥

ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਕਰੀ ਰਹੌਂ ਮੀਤ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ॥

ਅਕਬਰ ਘਰ ਤੇ ਨਿਕਸਿਯੈ ਕਛੁ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਕੇ ਸਾਥ ॥੮॥

ਆਪੁਨ ਮੈ ਸ੍ਵੈ ਇਕ ਦ੍ਰੁਮ ਮਾਝ ਗਡਾਇਹੌ ॥
aapun mai svai ik drum maajh gaddaaeihau |
ਹੋ ਤਹ ਤੇ ਨਿਕਸਿ ਸਜਨ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਆਇਹੌ ॥੯॥

ਯਾ ਮੂਰਖ ਕੇ ਸੀਸ ਜੂਤਿਯਨ ਝਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥
yaa moorakh ke sees jootiyan jhaar kai |
ਹੋ ਮਿਲਿਹੌ ਤੁਹਿ ਪਿਯ ਆਇ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਦਿਖਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥੧੧॥
ho milihau tuhi piy aae charitr dikhaar kai |11|
ਜਾਨਿਕ ਬਡੇ ਚਿਨਾਰ ਤਰੇ ਸੋਵਤ ਭਈ ॥
jaanik badde chinaar tare sovat bhee |
ਲਖਿ ਅਕਬਰ ਸੌ ਜਾਗਿ ਨ ਟਰਿ ਆਗੇ ਗਈ ॥
lakh akabar sau jaag na ttar aage gee |
ਯਾ ਦ੍ਰੁਮ ਕੀ ਮੁਹਿ ਛਾਹਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਨੀਕੀ ਲਗੀ ॥
yaa drum kee muhi chhaeh adhik neekee lagee |
ਹੋ ਪੌਢਿ ਰਹੀ ਸੁਖ ਪਾਇ ਨ ਤਜਿ ਨਿੰਦ੍ਰਾ ਜਗੀ ॥੧੨॥

vahai brichh meh gaddahaa kariyo |
ਤਾ ਮੈ ਐਂਚਿ ਤਰੁਨ ਵਹ ਡਾਰੀ ॥
