Seeing with his own eyes the running demon-army

ਨਿਕਟ ਬਿਕਟ ਭਟ ਜੇ ਹੁਤੇ ਤਿਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਬੁਲਿਯੋ ਬੈਣ ॥੧੭॥੧੩੯॥

nikatt bikatt bhatt je hute tin prat buliyo bain |17|139|

Sumbh spoke to the mighty warriors standing near him.17.139.

ਨਿਸੁੰਭ ਸੁੰਭ ਕੋਪ ਕੈ ॥

ਪਠਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਪਾਵ ਰੋਪ ਕੈ ॥

patthiyo su paav rop kai |

Srriking his foot on the earth Sumbh sent Nisumbh saying

ਕਹਿਯੋ ਕਿ ਸੀਘ੍ਰ ਜਾਈਯੋ ॥

kahiyo ki seeghr jaaeeyo |

ਦ੍ਰੁਗਾਹਿ ਬਾਧ ਲ੍ਰਯਾਈਯੋ ॥੧੮॥੧੪੦॥

drugaeh baadh lrayaaeeyo |18|140|

“Go immediately and bring Durga after binding her.”18.140.

ਚੜ︀ਯੋ ਸੁ ਸੈਣ ਸਜਿ ਕੈ ॥

charrayo su sain saj kai |

ਸਕੋਪ ਸੂਰ ਗਜਿ ਕੈ ॥

sakop soor gaj kai |

Thundering and in great fury, he marched forward alongwith his army.

ਉਠੈ ਬਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਬਾਜਿ ਕੈ ॥

autthai bajantr baaj kai |

ਚਲਿਯੋ ਸੁਰੇਸੁ ਭਾਜਿ ਕੈ ॥੧੯॥੧੪੧॥

chaliyo sures bhaaj kai |19|141|

The trumpets were sounded, hearing which caused the king of gods run away.19.141.

ਅਨੰਤ ਸੂਰ ਸੰਗਿ ਲੈ ॥

anant soor sang lai |

ਚਲਿਯੋ ਸੁ ਦੁੰਦਭੀਨ ਦੈ ॥

chaliyo su dundabheen dai |

Beating his drums, he marched forward taking countless warriors with him.

ਹਕਾਰਿ ਸੂਰਮਾ ਭਰੇ ॥

hakaar sooramaa bhare |

ਬਿਲੋਕਿ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਡਰੇ ॥੨੦॥੧੪੨॥

bilok devataa ddare |20|142|

He called and gathered so many brave fighters, seeing whom the gods were frightened.20.142.

ਕੰਪਿਯੋ ਸੁਰੇਸ ॥

The king of gods trembled and reated all his painful circumstances to Lord Shiva.

ਕਿਨੋ ਬਿਚਾਰ ॥

kino bichaar |

ਪੁਛੇ ਜੁਝਾਰ ॥੨੧॥੧੪੩॥

puchhe jujhaar |21|143|

When he gave out all his feflections, Shiva asked him about the number of his warriors.21.143.

ਕੀਜੈ ਸੁ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ॥

keejai su mitr |

ਕਉਨੇ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ॥

kaune charitr |

(He further asked him) to make friends all others through all possible means

ਜਾਤੇ ਸੁ ਮਾਇ ॥

jaate su maae |

ਜੀਤੈ ਬਨਾਇ ॥੨੨॥੧੪੪॥

jeetai banaae |22|144|

So that the victory of the mother of the world is assured.22.144.

ਸਕਤੈ ਨਿਕਾਰ ॥

sakatai nikaar |

ਭੇਜੋ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

bhejo apaar |

Bring out all your powers, and send them in the war

ਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਜਾਇ ॥

satran jaae |

ਹਨਿ ਹੈ ਰਿਸਾਇ ॥੨੩॥੧੪੫॥

han hai risaae |23|145|

So that they may go before enemies and in great rage destroy them.23.145.

ਸੋਈ ਕਾਮ ਕੀਨ ॥

soee kaam keen |

ਦੇਵਨ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ॥

devan prabeen |

The wise gods did as advised

ਸਕਤੈ ਨਿਕਾਰਿ ॥

ਭੇਜੀ ਅਪਾਰ ॥੨੪॥੧੪੬॥

And sent their boundless powers from amoungst themselves to the battlefield.24.146.

ਚਲੀ ਸਕਤਿ ਸੀਘ੍ਰ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣਿ ਪਾਣਿ ਧਾਰ ਕੈ ॥

chalee sakat seeghr sree kripaan paan dhaar kai |

Immediately the powers wore the sword and went towards the arena of war

ਉਠੇ ਸੁ ਗ੍ਰਿਧ ਬ੍ਰਿਧ ਡਉਰ ਡਾਕਣੀ ਡਕਾਰ ਕੈ ॥

autthe su gridh bridh ddaur ddaakanee ddakaar kai |

And with them ran the great vultures nd belching vampires.

ਹਸੇ ਸੁ ਰੰਗ ਕੰਕ ਬੰਕਯੰ ਕਬੰਧ ਅੰਧ ਉਠਹੀ ॥

hase su rang kank bankayan kabandh andh utthahee |

The terrible crows smiled and the blind headless bodies also moved.

ਬਿਸੇਖ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਰੁ ਬੀਰ ਬਾਣ ਧਾਰ ਬੁਠਹੀ ॥੨੫॥੧੪੭॥

bisekh devataa ru beer baan dhaar butthahee |25|147|

From this side, the gods and other heroes began to shower shafts.25.147.

ਸਬੈ ਸਕਤਿ ਐ ਕੈ ॥

ਚਲੀ ਸੀਸ ਨਿਐ ਕੈ ॥

chalee sees niai kai |

All the powers came and went back paying their obeisance.

ਮਹਾ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥

mahaa asatr dhaare |

ਮਹਾ ਬੀਰ ਮਾਰੇ ॥੨੬॥੧੪੮॥

mahaa beer maare |26|148|

They wore terrible arms and killed many great warriors.26.148.

ਮੁਖੰ ਰਕਤ ਨੈਣੰ ॥

mukhan rakat nainan |

ਬਕੈ ਬੰਕ ਬੈਣੰ ॥

bakai bank bainan |

Their faces and eyes are reddened with blood and they are uttering challenging words from their mouths.

ਧਰੇ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਪਾਣੰ ॥

dhare asatr paanan |

ਕਟਾਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣੰ ॥੨੭॥੧੪੯॥

kattaaree kripaanan |27|149|

They are holding arms, daggers and swords in their hands.27.149.

ਉਤੈ ਦੈਤ ਗਾਜੇ ॥

autai dait gaaje |

ਤੁਰੀ ਨਾਦ ਬਾਜੇ ॥

turee naad baaje |

From the other side, the demons are thundering, and the trumpets are resounding.

ਧਾਰੇ ਚਾਰ ਚਰਮੰ ॥

dhaare chaar charaman |

ਸ੍ਰਜੇ ਕ੍ਰੂਰ ਬਰਮੰ ॥੨੮॥੧੫੦॥

sraje kraoor baraman |28|150|

They are wearing cruel armour, holding winsome shields in their hands.28.150.

ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰ ਗਰਜੇ ॥

chahoon or garaje |

ਸਬੈ ਦੇਵ ਲਰਜੇ ॥

sabai dev laraje |

They began to roar from all the four sides and hearing their voices, all the gods trembled.

ਛੁਟੇ ਤਿਛ ਤੀਰੰ ॥

chhutte tichh teeran |

ਕਟੇ ਚਉਰ ਚੀਰੰ ॥੨੯॥੧੫੧॥

katte chaur cheeran |29|151|

The sharp arrows were shot and the garments and fly-whisks were torn.29.151.

ਰੁਸੰ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਰਤੇ ॥

ਮਹਾ ਤੇਜ ਤਤੇ ॥

mahaa tej tate |

Inebriated with extreme ferocity, the warriors are seen with brightened faces.

ਕਰੀ ਬਾਣ ਬਰਖੰ ॥

ਭਰੀ ਦੇਬਿ ਹਰਖੰ ॥੩੦॥੧੫੨॥

bharee deb harakhan |30|152|

The goddess Durga, being very much pleased, hath begun showering the rain of arrows.30.152.

ਇਤੇ ਦੇਬਿ ਮਾਰੈ ॥

eite deb maarai |

ਉਤੈ ਸਿੰਘੁ ਫਾਰੈ ॥

autai singh faarai |

On this side, the goddess is busy in killing and on the other side the lion is tearing up all.

ਗਣੰ ਗੂੜ ਗਰਜੈ ॥

ganan goorr garajai |

ਸਬੈ ਦੈਤ ਲਰਜੇ ॥੩੧॥੧੫੩॥

sabai dait laraje |31|153|

Hearing the roars of the Ganas (attendants) of Shiva, the demons have become frightened.31.153.

ਭਈ ਬਾਣ ਬਰਖਾ ॥

bhee baan barakhaa |

ਗਏ ਜੀਤਿ ਕਰਖਾ ॥

ge jeet karakhaa |

There was rain of arrows and with this the goddess became victorious.

ਸਬੈ ਦੁਸਟ ਮਾਰੇ ॥

sabai dusatt maare |

ਮਈਯਾ ਸੰਤ ਉਬਾਰੇ ॥੩੨॥੧੫੪॥

meeyaa sant ubaare |32|154|

All the tyrants were killed by the goddess and the Mother saved the saints.32.154.

ਨਿਸੁੰਭੰ ਸੰਘਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

nisunbhan sanghaariyo |

ਦਲੰ ਦੈਤ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥

dalan dait maariyo |

The goddess killed Nisumbh and destroyed the army of demons.

ਸਬੈ ਦੁਸਟ ਭਾਜੇ ॥

sabai dusatt bhaaje |

ਇਤੈ ਸਿੰਘ ਗਾਜੇ ॥੩੩॥੧੫੫॥

eitai singh gaaje |33|155|

On this side the lion roared and form the other side all the demons fled.33.155.

ਭਈ ਪੁਹਪ ਬਰਖਾ ॥

bhee puhap barakhaa |

ਗਾਏ ਜੀਤ ਕਰਖਾ ॥

gaae jeet karakhaa |

On the victory of the army of gods, there was rain of flowers.

ਜਯੰ ਸੰਤ ਜੰਪੇ ॥

jayan sant janpe |

ਤ੍ਰਸੇ ਦੈਤ ਕੰਪੇ ॥੩੪॥੧੫੬॥

The saints hailed it nd the demos trembled with fear.34.156.

ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰੇ ਨਿਸੁੰਭ ਬਧਹ ਪੰਚਮੋ ਧਿਆਇ ਸੰਪੂਰਨਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੫॥

Maajh, Third Mehl:

ਇਕੋ ਆਪਿ ਫਿਰੈ ਪਰਛੰਨਾ ॥

eiko aap firai parachhanaa |

The One Lord Himself moves about imperceptibly.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵੇਖਾ ਤਾ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਭਿੰਨਾ ॥

guramukh vekhaa taa ihu man bhinaa |

As Gurmukh, I see Him, and then this mind is pleased and uplifted.

ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਤਜਿ ਸਹਜ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਏਕੋ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥

trisanaa taj sehaj sukh paaeaa eko man vasaavaniaa |1|

Renouncing desire, I have found intuitive peace and poise; I have enshrined the One within my mind. ||1||

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਇਕਸੁ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥

hau vaaree jeeo vaaree ikas siau chit laavaniaa |

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who focus their consciousness on the One.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮਨੁ ਇਕਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਆਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰੰਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

guramatee man ikat ghar aaeaa sachai rang rangaavaniaa |1| rahaau |

Through the Guru's Teachings, my mind has come to its only home; it is imbued with the True Color of the Lord's Love. ||1||Pause||

ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਤੈਂ ਆਪਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥

eihu jag bhoolaa tain aap bhulaaeaa |

This world is deluded; You Yourself have deluded it.

ਇਕੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਦੂਜੈ ਲੋਭਾਇਆ ॥

eik visaar doojai lobhaaeaa |

Forgetting the One, it has become engrossed in duality.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਫਿਰੈ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

anadin sadaa firai bhram bhoolaa bin naavai dukh paavaniaa |2|

Night and day, it wanders around endlessly, deluded by doubt; without the Name, it suffers in pain. ||2||

ਜੋ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਕਰਮ ਬਿਧਾਤੇ ॥

jo rang raate karam bidhaate |

Those who are attuned to the Love of the Lord, the Architect of Destiny

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਜੁਗ ਚਾਰੇ ਜਾਤੇ ॥

gur sevaa te jug chaare jaate |

by serving the Guru, they are known throughout the four ages.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਆਪਿ ਦੇਇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

jis no aap dee vaddiaaee har kai naam samaavaniaa |3|

Those, upon whom the Lord bestows greatness, are absorbed in the Name of the Lord. ||3||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤੈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

maaeaa mohi har chetai naahee |

Being in love with Maya, they do not think of the Lord.

ਜਮਪੁਰਿ ਬਧਾ ਦੁਖ ਸਹਾਹੀ ॥

jamapur badhaa dukh sahaahee |

Bound and gagged in the City of Death, they suffer in terrible pain.

ਅੰਨਾ ਬੋਲਾ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਦਰਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਪਾਪਿ ਪਚਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥

anaa bolaa kichh nadar na aavai manamukh paap pachaavaniaa |4|

Blind and deaf, they see nothing at all; the self-willed manmukhs rot away in sin. ||4||

ਇਕਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪਿ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥

eik rang raate jo tudh aap liv laae |

Those, whom You attach to Your Love, are attuned to Your Love.

ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਏ ॥

bhaae bhagat terai man bhaae |

Through loving devotional worship, they become pleasing to Your Mind.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਸਭ ਇਛਾ ਆਪਿ ਪੁਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥

satigur sevan sadaa sukhadaataa sabh ichhaa aap pujaavaniaa |5|

They serve the True Guru, the Giver of eternal peace, and all their desires are fulfilled. ||5||

ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਰਣਾਈ ॥

har jeeo teree sadaa saranaaee |

O Dear Lord, I seek Your Sanctuary forever.

ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿਹਿ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

aape bakhasihi de vaddiaaee |

You Yourself forgive us, and bless us with Glorious Greatness.

ਜਮਕਾਲੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਨੇੜਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥

jamakaal tis nerr na aavai jo har har naam dhiaavaniaa |6|

The Messenger of Death does not draw near those who meditate on the Name of the Lord, Har, Har. ||6||

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੇ ਜੋ ਹਰਿ ਭਾਏ ॥

anadin raate jo har bhaae |

Night and day, they are attuned to His Love; they are pleasing to the Lord.

ਮੇਰੈ ਪ੍ਰਭਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

merai prabh mele mel milaae |

My God merges with them, and unites them in Union.

ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੇ ਤੇਰੀ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਸਚੁ ਬੁਝਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥

sadaa sadaa sache teree saranaaee toon aape sach bujhaavaniaa |7|

Forever and ever, O True Lord, I seek the Protection of Your Sanctuary; You Yourself inspire us to understand the Truth. ||7||

ਜਿਨ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਣੇ ॥

jin sach jaataa se sach samaane |

Those who know the Truth are absorbed in Truth.

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੇ ॥

har gun gaaveh sach vakhaane |

They sing the Lord's Glorious Praises, and speak the Truth.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਤਾੜੀ ਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੩॥੪॥

naanak naam rate bairaagee nij ghar taarree laavaniaa |8|3|4|

O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam remain unattached and balanced; in the home of the inner self, they are absorbed in the primal trance of deep meditation. ||8||3||4||

ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Maajh, Third Mehl:

ਸਬਦਿ ਮਰੈ ਸੁ ਮੁਆ ਜਾਪੈ ॥

sabad marai su muaa jaapai |

One who dies in the Word of the Shabad is truly dead.

ਕਾਲੁ ਨ ਚਾਪੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਨ ਸੰਤਾਪੈ ॥

kaal na chaapai dukh na santaapai |

Death does not crush him, and pain does not afflict him.

ਜੋਤੀ ਵਿਚਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਣੀ ਸੁਣਿ ਮਨ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥

jotee vich mil jot samaanee sun man sach samaavaniaa |1|

His light merges and is absorbed into the Light, when he hears and merges in the Truth. ||1||

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਨਾਇ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥

hau vaaree jeeo vaaree har kai naae sobhaa paavaniaa |

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to the Lord's Name, which brings us to glory.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਿ ਸਚਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

satigur sev sach chit laaeaa guramatee sehaj samaavaniaa |1| rahaau |

One who serves the True Guru, and focuses his consciousness on Truth, following the Guru's Teachings, is absorbed in intuitive peace and poise. ||1||Pause||

ਕਾਇਆ ਕਚੀ ਕਚਾ ਚੀਰੁ ਹੰਢਾਏ ॥

kaaeaa kachee kachaa cheer handtaae |

This human body is transitory, and transitory are the garments it wears.

ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥

doojai laagee mehal na paae |

Attached to duality, no one attains the Mansion of the Lord's Presence.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਲਦੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਬਿਨੁ ਪਿਰ ਬਹੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

anadin jaladee firai din raatee bin pir bahu dukh paavaniaa |2|

Night and day, day and night, they burn. Without her Husband Lord, the soul-bride suffers in terrible pain. ||2||

ਦੇਹੀ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਆਗੈ ਜਾਏ ॥

dehee jaat na aagai jaae |

Her body and her status shall not go with her to the world hereafter.

ਜਿਥੈ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਤਿਥੈ ਛੁਟੈ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥

jithai lekhaa mangeeai tithai chhuttai sach kamaae |

Where she is called to answer for her account, there, she shall be emancipated only by true actions.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਧਨਵੰਤੇ ਐਥੈ ਓਥੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

satigur sevan se dhanavante aithai othai naam samaavaniaa |3|

Those who serve the True Guru shall prosper; here and hereafter, they are absorbed in the Naam. ||3||

ਭੈ ਭਾਇ ਸੀਗਾਰੁ ਬਣਾਏ ॥

bhai bhaae seegaar banaae |

She who adorns herself with the Love and the Fear of God,

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਘਰੁ ਪਾਏ ॥

gur parasaadee mehal ghar paae |

by Guru's Grace, obtains the Mansion of the Lord's Presence as her home.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਵੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਮਜੀਠੈ ਰੰਗੁ ਬਣਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥

anadin sadaa ravai din raatee majeetthai rang banaavaniaa |4|

Night and day, day and night, she constantly ravishes and enjoys her Beloved. She is dyed in the permanent color of His Love. ||4||

ਸਭਨਾ ਪਿਰੁ ਵਸੈ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਲੇ ॥

sabhanaa pir vasai sadaa naale |

The Husband Lord abides with everyone, always;

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਕੋ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੇ ॥

gur parasaadee ko nadar nihaale |

but how rare are those few who, by Guru's Grace, obtain His Glance of Grace.

ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਅਤਿ ਊਚੋ ਊਚਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥

meraa prabh at aoocho aoochaa kar kirapaa aap milaavaniaa |5|

My God is the Highest of the High; granting His Grace, He merges us into Himself. ||5||

ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਇਹੁ ਜਗੁ ਸੁਤਾ ॥

maaeaa mohi ihu jag sutaa |

This world is asleep in emotional attachment to Maya.

ਨਾਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਵਿਗੁਤਾ ॥

naam visaar ant vigutaa |

Forgetting the Naam, the Name of the Lord, it ultimately comes to ruin.

ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਸੁਤਾ ਸੋ ਜਾਗਾਏ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥

jis te sutaa so jaagaae guramat sojhee paavaniaa |6|

The One who put it to sleep shall also awaken it. Through the Guru's Teachings, understanding dawns. ||6||

ਅਪਿਉ ਪੀਐ ਸੋ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥

apiau peeai so bharam gavaae |

One who drinks in this Nectar, shall have his delusions dispelled.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਏ ॥

gur parasaad mukat gat paae |

By Guru's Grace, the state of liberation is attained.

ਭਗਤੀ ਰਤਾ ਸਦਾ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਆਪੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥

bhagatee rataa sadaa bairaagee aap maar milaavaniaa |7|

One who is imbued with devotion to the Lord, remains always balanced and detached. Subduing selfishness and conceit, he is united with the Lord. ||7||

ਆਪਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਧੰਧੈ ਲਾਏ ॥

aap upaae dhandhai laae |

He Himself creates, and He Himself assigns us to our tasks.

ਲਖ ਚਉਰਾਸੀ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਆਪਿ ਅਪੜਾਏ ॥

lakh chauraasee rijak aap aparraae |

He Himself gives sustenance to the 8.4 million species of beings.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਚਿ ਰਾਤੇ ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੪॥੫॥

naanak naam dhiaae sach raate jo tis bhaavai su kaar karaavaniaa |8|4|5|

O Nanak, those who meditate on the Naam are atuned to Truth. They do that which is pleasing to His Will. ||8||4||5||
