The non-temporal Purusha (All-Pervading Lord) is my Protector.
ਸਰਬ ਲੋਹ ਦੀ ਰਛਿਆ ਹਮਨੈ ॥
sarab loh dee rachhiaa hamanai |
The All-Iron Lord is my Protector.
ਸਰਬ ਕਾਲ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਰਛਿਆ ਹਮਨੈ ॥
sarab kaal jee dee rachhiaa hamanai |
The All-Destroying Lord is my Protector.
ਸਰਬ ਲੋਹ ਜੀ ਦੀ ਸਦਾ ਰਛਿਆ ਹਮਨੈ ॥
sarab loh jee dee sadaa rachhiaa hamanai |
The All-Iron Lord is ever my Protector.

I Salute the One Primal Lord.
ਜਲ ਥਲ ਮਹੀਅਲ ਕੀਓ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥
jal thal maheeal keeo pasaaraa |
Who pervades the watery, earthly and heavenly expanse.
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਬਿਗਤ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ॥
aad purakh abigat abinaasee |
That Primal Purusha is Unmanifested and Immortal.
ਲੋਕ ਚਤ੍ਰੁ ਦਸ ਜੋਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸੀ ॥੧॥

His Light illumines the fourteen worlds. I.
ਹਸਤ ਕੀਟ ਕੇ ਬੀਚ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥
hasat keett ke beech samaanaa |
He hath merged Himself within the elephant and the worm.
ਰਾਵ ਰੰਕ ਜਿਹ ਇਕ ਸਰ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
raav rank jih ik sar jaanaa |
The king and the baggar equal before Him.
ਅਦ੍ਵੈ ਅਲਖ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਬਿਗਾਮੀ ॥
advai alakh purakh abigaamee |
That Non-dual and Imperceptible Purusha is Inseparable.
ਸਭ ਘਟ ਘਟ ਕੇ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥੨॥
sabh ghatt ghatt ke antarajaamee |2|
He reaches the inner core of every heart.2.
ਅਲਖ ਰੂਪ ਅਛੈ ਅਨਭੇਖਾ ॥
alakh roop achhai anabhekhaa |
He is an Inconceivable Entity, Exernal and Garbless.
ਰਾਗ ਰੰਗ ਜਿਹ ਰੂਪ ਨ ਰੇਖਾ ॥
raag rang jih roop na rekhaa |
He is without attachment, colour, form and mark.
ਬਰਨ ਚਿਹਨ ਸਭਹੂੰ ਤੇ ਨਿਆਰਾ ॥
baran chihan sabhahoon te niaaraa |
He distinct from all others of various colours and signs.
ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਦ੍ਵੈ ਅਬਿਕਾਰਾ ॥੩॥

He is the Primal Purusha, Unique and Changeless.3.
ਬਰਨ ਚਿਹਨ ਜਿਹ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਪਾਤਾ ॥
baran chihan jih jaat na paataa |
He is without colour, mark, caste and lineage.
ਸਤ੍ਰ ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਜਿਹ ਤਾਤ ਨ ਮਾਤਾ ॥
satr mitr jih taat na maataa |
He is the without enemy, friend, father and mother.
ਸਭ ਤੇ ਦੂਰਿ ਸਭਨ ਤੇ ਨੇਰਾ ॥
sabh te door sabhan te neraa |
He is far away from all and closest to all.
ਜਲ ਥਲ ਮਹੀਅਲ ਜਾਹਿ ਬਸੇਰਾ ॥੪॥
jal thal maheeal jaeh baseraa |4|
His dwelling is within water, on earth and in heavens.4.
ਅਨਹਦ ਰੂਪ ਅਨਾਹਦ ਬਾਨੀ ॥
anahad roop anaahad baanee |
He is Limitless Entity and hath infinite celestial strain.
ਚਰਨ ਸਰਨ ਜਿਹ ਬਸਤ ਭਵਾਨੀ ॥
charan saran jih basat bhavaanee |
The goddess Durga takes refuge at His Feet and abides there.
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਿਸਨ ਅੰਤੁ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇਓ ॥
brahamaa bisan ant nahee paaeo |
Brahma and Vishnu Could not know His end.
ਨੇਤ ਨੇਤ ਮੁਖਚਾਰ ਬਤਾਇਓ ॥੫॥

The four-headed god Brahma described Him ad ‘Neti Neti’ (Not this, Not this).5.
ਕੋਟਿ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਉਪਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਬਨਾਏ ॥
kott indr upeindr banaae |
He hath created millions of Indras and Upindras (smaller Indras).
ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਉਪਾਇ ਖਪਾਏ ॥
brahamaa rudr upaae khapaae |
He hath created and destroyed Brahmas and Rudras (Shivas).
ਲੋਕ ਚਤ੍ਰ ਦਸ ਖੇਲ ਰਚਾਇਓ ॥
lok chatr das khel rachaaeo |
He hath created the play of fourteen worlds.
ਬਹੁਰ ਆਪ ਹੀ ਬੀਚ ਮਿਲਾਇਓ ॥੬॥
bahur aap hee beech milaaeo |6|
And then Himself merges it within His Self.6.
ਦਾਨਵ ਦੇਵ ਫਨਿੰਦ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
daanav dev fanind apaaraa |
Infinite demons, gods and Sheshanagas.
ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਜਛ ਰਚੈ ਸੁਭ ਚਾਰਾ ॥
gandhrab jachh rachai subh chaaraa |
He hath created Gandharvas, Yakshas and being of high character.
ਭੂਤ ਭਵਿਖ ਭਵਾਨ ਕਹਾਨੀ ॥
bhoot bhavikh bhavaan kahaanee |
The story of past, future and present.
ਘਟ ਘਟ ਕੇ ਪਟ ਪਟ ਕੀ ਜਾਨੀ ॥੭॥
ghatt ghatt ke patt patt kee jaanee |7|
Regarding the inward recesses of every heart are known to Him.7.
ਤਾਤ ਮਾਤ ਜਿਹ ਜਾਤ ਨ ਪਾਤਾ ॥
taat maat jih jaat na paataa |
He Who hath no father, mother caste and lineage.
ਏਕ ਰੰਗ ਕਾਹੂ ਨਹੀ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
ek rang kaahoo nahee raataa |
He is not imbues with undivided love for anyone of them.
ਸਰਬ ਜੋਤ ਕੇ ਬੀਚ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥
sarab jot ke beech samaanaa |
He is merged in all lights (souls).
ਸਭਹੂੰ ਸਰਬ ਠੌਰ ਪਹਿਚਾਨਾ ॥੮॥
sabhahoon sarab tthauar pahichaanaa |8|
I have recognized Him within all and visualized Him at all places. 8.
ਕਾਲ ਰਹਤ ਅਨ ਕਾਲ ਸਰੂਪਾ ॥
kaal rehat an kaal saroopaa |
He is deathless and a non-temporal Entity.
ਅਲਖ ਪੁਰਖ ਅਬਗਤ ਅਵਧੂਤਾ ॥
alakh purakh abagat avadhootaa |
He is Imperceptible Purusha, Unmanifested and Unscathed.
ਜਾਤ ਪਾਤ ਜਿਹ ਚਿਹਨ ਨ ਬਰਨਾ ॥
jaat paat jih chihan na baranaa |
He Who is without caste, lineage, mark and colour.
ਅਬਗਤ ਦੇਵ ਅਛੈ ਅਨ ਭਰਮਾ ॥੯॥
abagat dev achhai an bharamaa |9|
The Unmanifest Lord is Indestructible and ever Stable.9.
ਸਭ ਕੋ ਕਾਲ ਸਭਨ ਕੋ ਕਰਤਾ ॥
sabh ko kaal sabhan ko karataa |
He is the Destroyer of all and Creator of all.
ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਦੋਖਨ ਕੋ ਹਰਤਾ ॥
rog sog dokhan ko harataa |
He is the Remover of maladies, sufferings and blemishes.
ਏਕ ਚਿਤ ਜਿਹ ਇਕ ਛਿਨ ਧਿਆਇਓ ॥
ek chit jih ik chhin dhiaaeo |
He Who meditates upon Him with single mind even for an instant
ਕਾਲ ਫਾਸ ਕੇ ਬੀਚ ਨ ਆਇਓ ॥੧੦॥

He doth not come within the trap of death. 10.

ਕਤਹੂੰ ਸੁਚੇਤ ਹੁਇ ਕੈ ਚੇਤਨਾ ਕੋ ਚਾਰ ਕੀਓ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਅਚਿੰਤ ਹੁਇ ਕੈ ਸੋਵਤ ਅਚੇਤ ਹੋ ॥
katahoon suchet hue kai chetanaa ko chaar keeo katahoon achint hue kai sovat achet ho |
O Lord! Somewhere becoming Conscious, Thou adrnest consciousness , somewhere becoming Carefree, thou sleepest unconsciously.
ਕਤਹੂੰ ਭਿਖਾਰੀ ਹੁਇ ਕੈ ਮਾਂਗਤ ਫਿਰਤ ਭੀਖ ਕਹੂੰ ਮਹਾ ਦਾਨ ਹੁਇ ਕੈ ਮਾਂਗਿਓ ਧਨ ਦੇਤ ਹੋ ॥
katahoon bhikhaaree hue kai maangat firat bheekh kahoon mahaa daan hue kai maangio dhan det ho |
Somewhere becoming a beggar, Thou beggest alms and somewhere becoming a Supreme Donor, Thou bestowest the begged wealth.
ਕਹੂੰ ਮਹਾਂ ਰਾਜਨ ਕੋ ਦੀਜਤ ਅਨੰਤ ਦਾਨ ਕਹੂੰ ਮਹਾਂ ਰਾਜਨ ਤੇ ਛੀਨ ਛਿਤ ਲੇਤ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon mahaan raajan ko deejat anant daan kahoon mahaan raajan te chheen chhit let ho |
Some where Thou givest inexhaustible gifts to emperors and somewhere Thou deprivest the emperors of their kingdoms.
ਕਹੂੰ ਬੇਦ ਰੀਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਤਾ ਸਿਉ ਬਿਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਨ ਅਤੀਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਸੁਰਗੁਨ ਸਮੇਤ ਹੋ ॥੧॥੧੧॥

Somewhere Thou workest in accordance with Vedic rites and somewhere Thou art quite opposed to it, somewhere Thou art without three modes of maya and somewhere Thou hast all godly attributes.1.11.
ਕਹੂੰ ਜਛ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਉਰਗ ਕਹੂੰ ਬਿਦਿਆਧਰ ਕਹੂੰ ਭਏ ਕਿੰਨਰ ਪਿਸਾਚ ਕਹੂੰ ਪ੍ਰੇਤ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon jachh gandhrab urag kahoon bidiaadhar kahoon bhe kinar pisaach kahoon pret ho |
O Lord! Somewhere Thou art Yaksha, Gandharva, Sheshanaga and Vidyadhar and somewhere Thou becomest Kinnar, Pishacha and Preta.
ਕਹੂੰ ਹੁਇ ਕੈ ਹਿੰਦੂਆ ਗਾਇਤ੍ਰੀ ਕੋ ਗੁਪਤ ਜਪਿਓ ਕਹੂੰ ਹੁਇ ਕੈ ਤੁਰਕਾ ਪੁਕਾਰੇ ਬਾਂਗ ਦੇਤ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon hue kai hindooaa gaaeitree ko gupat japio kahoon hue kai turakaa pukaare baang det ho |
Somewhere Thou becomest a Hindu and repeatest Gayatri secretly: Somewhere becoming a Turk Thou callest Muslims to worship.
ਕਹੂੰ ਕੋਕ ਕਾਬ ਹੁਇ ਕੈ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਕੋ ਪੜਤ ਮਤ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਕੋ ਨਿਦਾਨ ਜਾਨ ਲੇਤ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon kok kaab hue kai puraan ko parrat mat katahoon kuraan ko nidaan jaan let ho |
Somewhere being a poet thou recitest the Pauranic wisdom and somewhere Thou recitest the Pauranic wisdom and somewhere Thou comprehendest the essence of Quran.
ਕਹੂੰ ਬੇਦ ਰੀਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਤਾ ਸਿਉ ਬਿਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਨ ਅਤੀਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਸੁਰਗੁਨ ਸਮੇਤ ਹੋ ॥੨॥੧੨॥

Somewhere Thou workest in accordance with Vedic rites and somewhere Thou art quite opposed to it ; somewhere Thou art without threee modes of maya and somewhere Thou hast all godly attributes. 2.12.
ਕਹੂੰ ਦੇਵਤਾਨ ਕੇ ਦਿਵਾਨ ਮੈ ਬਿਰਾਜਮਾਨ ਕਹੂੰ ਦਾਨਵਾਨ ਕੋ ਗੁਮਾਨ ਮਤ ਦੇਤ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon devataan ke divaan mai biraajamaan kahoon daanavaan ko gumaan mat det ho |
O Lord! Somewhere Thou art seated in the Court of gods and somewhere Thou givest the egoistic intellect to demons.
ਕਹੂੰ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਰਾਜਾ ਕੋ ਮਿਲਤ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਪਦਵੀ ਸੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਪਦਵੀ ਛਿਪਾਇ ਛੀਨ ਲੇਤ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon indr raajaa ko milat indr padavee see kahoon indr padavee chhipaae chheen let ho |
Somewhere Thou Bestowest the position of of the king of gods to Indra and somewhere Thou deprivest Indra of this position.
ਕਤਹੂੰ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਅਬਿਚਾਰ ਕੋ ਬਿਚਾਰਤ ਹੋ ਕਹੂੰ ਨਿਜ ਨਾਰ ਪਰ ਨਾਰ ਕੇ ਨਿਕੇਤ ਹੋ ॥
katahoon bichaar abichaar ko bichaarat ho kahoon nij naar par naar ke niket ho |
Somewhere Thou discriminatest between good and bad intellect, somewhere Thou art with Thy own spouse and somewhere with another’s wife.
ਕਹੂੰ ਬੇਦ ਰੀਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਤਾ ਸਿਉ ਬਿਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਨ ਅਤੀਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਸੁਰਗੁਨ ਸਮੇਤ ਹੋ ॥੩॥੧੩॥

ਕਹੂੰ ਸਸਤ੍ਰਧਾਰੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਕੇ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਮਾਰਤ ਅਹਾਰੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਨਾਰ ਕੇ ਨਿਕੇਤ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon sasatradhaaree kahoon bidiaa ke bichaaree kahoon maarat ahaaree kahoon naar ke niket ho |
O Lord! Somewhere Thou art an armed warrior, somewhere a learned thinker, somewhere a hunter and somewhere an enjoyer of women.
ਕਹੂੰ ਦੇਵਬਾਨੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਸਾਰਦਾ ਭਵਾਨੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਮੰਗਲਾ ਮਿੜਾਨੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਸਿਆਮ ਕਹੂੰ ਸੇਤ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon devabaanee kahoon saaradaa bhavaanee kahoon mangalaa mirraanee kahoon siaam kahoon set ho |
Somewhere Thou art the divine speech, somewhere Sarada and Bhavani, somewhere Durga, the trampler of corpses, somewhere in black colour and somewhere in white colour.
ਕਹੂੰ ਧਰਮ ਧਾਮੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਸਰਬ ਠਉਰ ਗਾਮੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਜਤੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਕਾਮੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਦੇਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਲੇਤ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon dharam dhaamee kahoon sarab tthaur gaamee kahoon jatee kahoon kaamee kahoon det kahoon let ho |
Somewhere Thou art abode of Dharma (righteousness), somewhere All-Pervading, somewhere a celibate, somewhere a lustful person, somewhere a donor and somewhere a taker.
ਕਹੂੰ ਬੇਦ ਰੀਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਤਾ ਸਿਉ ਬਿਪ੍ਰੀਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਤ੍ਰਿਗੁਨ ਅਤੀਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਸੁਰਗੁਨ ਸਮੇਤ ਹੋ ॥੪॥੧੪॥

Somewhere Thou workest in accordance with Vedic rites, and somewhere Thou art quite opposed to it, somewhere Thou art without three modes of maya and somewhere Thou hast all gldly attributes.4.14.
ਕਹੂੰ ਜਟਾਧਾਰੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਕੰਠੀ ਧਰੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਚਾਰੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਜੋਗ ਸਾਧੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਸਾਧਨਾ ਕਰਤ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon jattaadhaaree kahoon kantthee dhare brahamachaaree kahoon jog saadhee kahoon saadhanaa karat ho |
O Lord! Somewhere Thou art a sage wearing matted hair, somewhere Thu art a rosary-wearing celibate, somewhere Thou art a rosary-wearing celibate, somewhere Thou hast practiced Yoga and somewhere Thou art practicing Yoga.
ਕਹੂੰ ਕਾਨ ਫਾਰੇ ਕਹੂੰ ਡੰਡੀ ਹੁਇ ਪਧਾਰੇ ਕਹੂੰ ਫੂਕ ਫੂਕ ਪਾਵਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਿਥੀ ਪੈ ਧਰਤ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon kaan faare kahoon ddanddee hue padhaare kahoon fook fook paavan kau prithee pai dharat ho |
Somewhere Thou art a Kanphata Yougi and somewhere Thou roamest like a Dandi saint, somewhere Thou steppest on the earth very cautiously.
ਕਤਹੂੰ ਸਿਪਾਹੀ ਹੁਇ ਕੈ ਸਾਧਤ ਸਿਲਾਹਨ ਕੌ ਕਹੂੰ ਛਤ੍ਰੀ ਹੁਇ ਕੈ ਅਰ ਮਾਰਤ ਮਰਤ ਹੋ ॥
katahoon sipaahee hue kai saadhat silaahan kau kahoon chhatree hue kai ar maarat marat ho |
Somewhere becoming a soldier, Thou practisest arms and somewhere becoming a kshatriya, Thou slayest the enemy or be slayed Thyself.
ਕਹੂੰ ਭੂਮ ਭਾਰ ਕੌ ਉਤਾਰਤ ਹੋ ਮਹਾਰਾਜ ਕਹੂੰ ਭਵ ਭੂਤਨ ਕੀ ਭਾਵਨਾ ਭਰਤ ਹੋ ॥੫॥੧੫॥
kahoon bhoom bhaar kau utaarat ho mahaaraaj kahoon bhav bhootan kee bhaavanaa bharat ho |5|15|
Somewhere Thou removest the burden of the earth, O Supreme Sovereign! And somewhere Thou the wishes of the worldly beings. 5.15.
ਕਹੂੰ ਗੀਤ ਨਾਦ ਕੇ ਨਿਦਾਨ ਕੌ ਬਤਾਵਤ ਹੋ ਕਹੂੰ ਨ੍ਰਿਤਕਾਰੀ ਚਿਤ੍ਰਕਾਰੀ ਕੇ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon geet naad ke nidaan kau bataavat ho kahoon nritakaaree chitrakaaree ke nidhaan ho |
O Lord! Somewhere Thou elucidatest the traits of song and sound and somewhere Thou art the treasure of dancing and painting.
ਕਤਹੂੰ ਪਯੂਖ ਹੁਇ ਕੈ ਪੀਵਤ ਪਿਵਾਵਤ ਹੋ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਮਯੂਖ ਊਖ ਕਹੂੰ ਮਦ ਪਾਨ ਹੋ ॥
katahoon payookh hue kai peevat pivaavat ho katahoon mayookh aookh kahoon mad paan ho |
Somewhere Thou art ambrosia which Thou drinkest and causest to drink, somewhere Thou art honey and sugarcane juice and somewhere Thou seemest intoxicated with wine.
ਕਹੂੰ ਮਹਾ ਸੂਰ ਹੁਇ ਕੈ ਮਾਰਤ ਮਵਾਸਨ ਕੌ ਕਹੂੰ ਮਹਾਦੇਵ ਦੇਵਤਾਨ ਕੇ ਸਮਾਨ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon mahaa soor hue kai maarat mavaasan kau kahoon mahaadev devataan ke samaan ho |
Somewhere, becoming a great warrior Thou slayeth the enemies and somewhere Thou art like the chief gods.
ਕਹੂੰ ਮਹਾਦੀਨ ਕਹੂੰ ਦ੍ਰਬ ਕੇ ਅਧੀਨ ਕਹੂੰ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਮੈ ਪ੍ਰਬੀਨ ਕਹੂੰ ਭੂਮ ਕਹੂੰ ਭਾਨ ਹੋ ॥੬॥੧੬॥
kahoon mahaadeen kahoon drab ke adheen kahoon bidiaa mai prabeen kahoon bhoom kahoon bhaan ho |6|16|
Somewhere thou art very humble, somewhere Thou art full of ego, somewhere Thou art an adept in learning, somewhere Thou art earth and somewhere Thou art the sun. 6.16.
ਕਹੂੰ ਅਕਲੰਕ ਕਹੂੰ ਮਾਰਤ ਮਯੰਕ ਕਹੂੰ ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਜੰਕ ਕਹੂੰ ਸੁਧਤਾ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon akalank kahoon maarat mayank kahoon pooran prajank kahoon sudhataa kee saar ho |
O Lord! Somewhere Thou art without any blemish, somewhere Thou smitest the moon, somewhere Thou art completely engrossed in enjoyment on Thy couch and somewhere Thou art the essence of Purity.
ਕਹੂੰ ਦੇਵ ਧਰਮ ਕਹੂੰ ਸਾਧਨਾ ਕੇ ਹਰਮ ਕਹੂੰ ਕੁਤਸਤ ਕੁਕਰਮ ਕਹੂੰ ਧਰਮ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon dev dharam kahoon saadhanaa ke haram kahoon kutasat kukaram kahoon dharam ke prakaar ho |
Somewhere Thou performest godly rituals, somewhere Thou art the Abode of religious discipline, somewhere Thou art the vicious actions and somewhere Thou art the vicious actions and somewhere Thou appearest in variety of virtuous acts.
ਕਹੂੰ ਪਉਨ ਅਹਾਰੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਕੇ ਬਿਚਾਰੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਜੋਗੀ ਜਤੀ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਚਾਰੀ ਨਰ ਕਹੂੰ ਨਾਰ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon paun ahaaree kahoon bidiaa ke bichaaree kahoon jogee jatee brahamachaaree nar kahoon naar ho |
Somewhere Thou subsistest on air, somewhere Thou art a learned thinker and somewhere Thou art a Yogi, a Celibate, a Brahmchari ( disciplined student), a man and a womean.
ਕਹੂੰ ਛਤ੍ਰਧਾਰੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਛਾਲਾ ਧਰੇ ਛੈਲ ਭਾਰੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਛਕਵਾਰੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਛਲ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਹੋ ॥੭॥੧੭॥
kahoon chhatradhaaree kahoon chhaalaa dhare chhail bhaaree kahoon chhakavaaree kahoon chhal ke prakaar ho |7|17|
Somewhere Thou art a mighty sovereign, somewhere Thou art a great preceptor sitting on a deer-skin, somewhere Thou art prone to be deceived and somewhere Thou art various types of deception Thyself. 7.17.
ਕਹੂੰ ਗੀਤ ਕੇ ਗਵਯਾ ਕਹੂੰ ਬੇਨ ਕੇ ਬਜਯਾ ਕਹੂੰ ਨ੍ਰਿਤ ਕੇ ਨਚਯਾ ਕਹੂੰ ਨਰ ਕੋ ਅਕਾਰ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon geet ke gavayaa kahoon ben ke bajayaa kahoon nrit ke nachayaa kahoon nar ko akaar ho |
O Lord! Somewhere Thou art singer of song somewhere Thou art player of flute, somewhere Thou art a dancer and somewhere in the form of a man.
ਕਹੂੰ ਬੇਦ ਬਾਨੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਕੋਕ ਕੀ ਕਹਾਨੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਰਾਜਾ ਕਹੂੰ ਰਾਨੀ ਕਹੂੰ ਨਾਰ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਰ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon bed baanee kahoon kok kee kahaanee kahoon raajaa kahoon raanee kahoon naar ke prakaar ho |
Somewhere Thou art the vedic hymns and somewhere the story of the elucidator of the mystery of love, somewhere Thou art Thyself the king, the queen and also various types of woman.
ਕਹੂੰ ਬੇਨ ਕੇ ਬਜਯਾ ਕਹੂੰ ਧੇਨ ਕੇ ਚਰਯਾ ਕਹੂੰ ਲਾਖਨ ਲਵਯਾ ਕਹੂੰ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਕੁਮਾਰ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon ben ke bajayaa kahoon dhen ke charayaa kahoon laakhan lavayaa kahoon sundar kumaar ho |
Somewhere Thou art the player of flute, somewhere the grazier of cows and somewhere Thou art the beautiful youth, enticer of lakhs (of lovely maids.)
ਸੁਧਤਾ ਕੀ ਸਾਨ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਹਾ ਦਾਨ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਦੋਖੀ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਹੋ ॥੮॥੧੮॥
sudhataa kee saan ho ki santan ke praan ho ki daataa mahaa daan ho ki nridokhee nirankaar ho |8|18|
Somewhere Thou art the splendour of Purity, the life of the saints, the Donor of great charities and the immaculate Formless Lord. 8.18.
ਨਿਰਜੁਰ ਨਿਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਸੁੰਦਰ ਸਰੂਪ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਭੂਪਨ ਕੇ ਭੂਪ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਦਾਤਾ ਮਹਾ ਦਾਨ ਹੋ ॥
nirajur niroop ho ki sundar saroop ho ki bhoopan ke bhoop ho ki daataa mahaa daan ho |
O Lord! Thou art the Invisible Cataract, the Most Beautiful Entity, the King of Kings and the Donor of great charities.
ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਕੇ ਬਚਯਾ ਦੂਧ ਪੂਤ ਕੇ ਦਿਵਯਾ ਰੋਗ ਸੋਗ ਕੇ ਮਿਟਯਾ ਕਿਧੌ ਮਾਨੀ ਮਹਾ ਮਾਨ ਹੋ ॥
praan ke bachayaa doodh poot ke divayaa rog sog ke mittayaa kidhau maanee mahaa maan ho |
Thou art the Saviour of life, the Giver of milk and offspring, the Remover of ailments and sufferings and somewhere Thou art the Lord of Highest Honour.
ਬਿਦਿਆ ਕੇ ਬਿਚਾਰ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਅਦ੍ਵੈ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਸਿਧਤਾ ਕੀ ਸੂਰਤਿ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਸੁਧਤਾ ਕੀ ਸਾਨ ਹੋ ॥
bidiaa ke bichaar ho ki advai avataar ho ki sidhataa kee soorat ho ki sudhataa kee saan ho |
Thou art the essence of all learning, the embodiment of monism, the Being of All-Powers and the Glory of Sanctification.
ਜੋਬਨ ਕੇ ਜਾਲ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਕਾਲ ਹੂੰ ਕੇ ਕਾਲ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਸਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੇ ਸੂਲ ਹੋ ਕਿ ਮਿਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਹੋ ॥੯॥੧੯॥
joban ke jaal ho ki kaal hoon ke kaal ho ki satran ke sool ho ki mitran ke praan ho |9|19|
Thou art the snare of youth, the Death of Death, the anguish of enemies and the life of the friends. 9.19.
ਕਹੂੰ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਬਾਦ ਕਹੂੰ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਕੋ ਬਿਖਾਦ ਕਹੂੰ ਨਾਦ ਕੋ ਨਨਾਦ ਕਹੂੰ ਪੂਰਨ ਭਗਤ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon braham baad kahoon bidiaa ko bikhaad kahoon naad ko nanaad kahoon pooran bhagat ho |
O Lord! Somewhere Thou art in defic conduct, somewhere Thou appearest as contention in learning somewhere Thou art the tune of sound and somewhere a perfect saint (attuned with celestial strain).
ਕਹੂੰ ਬੇਦ ਰੀਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਬਿਦਿਆ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰਤੀਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਨੀਤ ਅਉ ਅਨੀਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਜੁਆਲਾ ਸੀ ਜਗਤ ਹੋ ॥
kahoon bed reet kahoon bidiaa kee prateet kahoon neet aau aneet kahoon juaalaa see jagat ho |
Somewhere Thou art Vedic ritual, somewhere the love for learning, somewhere ethical and unethical, and somewhere appearest as the glow of fire.
ਪੂਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਾਪ ਕਹੂੰ ਇਕਾਤੀ ਕੋ ਜਾਪ ਕਹੂੰ ਤਾਪ ਕੋ ਅਤਾਪ ਕਹੂੰ ਜੋਗ ਤੇ ਡਿਗਤ ਹੋ ॥
pooran prataap kahoon ikaatee ko jaap kahoon taap ko ataap kahoon jog te ddigat ho |
Somewhere Thou art perfectly Glorious, somewhere engrossed in solitary recitation, somewhere Remover of Suffering in great Agony and somewhere Thou appearest as a fallen yogi.
ਕਹੂੰ ਬਰ ਦੇਤ ਕਹੂੰ ਛਲ ਸਿਉ ਛਿਨਾਇ ਲੇਤ ਸਰਬ ਕਾਲ ਸਰਬ ਠਉਰ ਏਕ ਸੇ ਲਗਤ ਹੋ ॥੧੦॥੨੦॥
kahoon bar det kahoon chhal siau chhinaae let sarab kaal sarab tthaur ek se lagat ho |10|20|
Somewhere Thou bestowest the Boon and somewhere withdraw it with deceit. Thou at all times and at all the places Thou comest into view as the same. 10.20.

ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ਮੈਡਾ ਸਾਂਈ ॥
toon karataa sachiaar maiddaa saanee |
You are the True Creator, my Lord and Master.
ਜੋ ਤਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਥੀਸੀ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਹਉ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jo tau bhaavai soee theesee jo toon dehi soee hau paaee |1| rahaau |
Whatever pleases You comes to pass. As You give, so do we receive. ||1||Pause||
ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥
sabh teree toon sabhanee dhiaaeaa |
All belong to You, all meditate on you.
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jis no kripaa kareh tin naam ratan paaeaa |
Those who are blessed with Your Mercy obtain the Jewel of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਧਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥
guramukh laadhaa manamukh gavaaeaa |
The Gurmukhs obtain it, and the self-willed manmukhs lose it.
ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪਿ ਵਿਛੋੜਿਆ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥
tudh aap vichhorriaa aap milaaeaa |1|
You Yourself separate them from Yourself, and You Yourself reunite with them again. ||1||
ਤੂੰ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਸਭ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥
toon dareeaau sabh tujh hee maeh |
You are the River of Life; all are within You.
ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
tujh bin doojaa koee naeh |
There is no one except You.
ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਖੇਲੁ ॥
jeea jant sabh teraa khel |
All living beings are Your playthings.
ਵਿਜੋਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਮੇਲੁ ॥੨॥
vijog mil vichhurriaa sanjogee mel |2|
The separated ones meet, and by great good fortune, those suffering in separation are reunited once again. ||2||
ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੂ ਜਾਣਾਇਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
jis no too jaanaaeihi soee jan jaanai |
They alone understand, whom You inspire to understand;
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥
har gun sad hee aakh vakhaanai |
they continually chant and repeat the Lord's Praises.
ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
jin har seviaa tin sukh paaeaa |
Those who serve You find peace.
ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੩॥
sahaje hee har naam samaaeaa |3|
They are intuitively absorbed into the Lord's Name. ||3||
ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
too aape karataa teraa keea sabh hoe |
You Yourself are the Creator. Everything that happens is by Your Doing.
ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥
tudh bin doojaa avar na koe |
There is no one except You.
ਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖਹਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸੋਇ ॥
too kar kar vekheh jaaneh soe |
You created the creation; You behold it and understand it.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੨॥
jan naanak guramukh paragatt hoe |4|2|
O servant Nanak, the Lord is revealed through the Gurmukh, the Living Expression of the Guru's Word. ||4||2||
