BIJAI STANZA

ਜੇਤਕ ਬਾਣ ਚਲੇ ਅਰਿ ਓਰ ਤੇ ਫੂਲ ਕੀ ਮਾਲ ਹੁਐ ਕੰਠਿ ਬਿਰਾਜੇ ॥

jetak baan chale ar or te fool kee maal huai kantth biraaje |

All the arrows shot by the enemy bedeck as garlands of flowers around the neck of the goddess.

ਦਾਨਵ ਪੁੰਗਵ ਪੇਖਿ ਅਚੰਭਵ ਛੋਡਿ ਭਜੇ ਰਣ ਏਕ ਨ ਗਾਜੇ ॥

daanav pungav pekh achanbhav chhodd bhaje ran ek na gaaje |

Seeing this wonder the forces of the enemy have run away from the battlefield and none could stay there.

ਕੁੰਜਰ ਪੁੰਜ ਗਿਰੇ ਤਿਹ ਠਉਰ ਭਰੇ ਸਭ ਸ੍ਰੋਣਤ ਪੈ ਗਨ ਤਾਜੇ ॥

kunjar punj gire tih tthaur bhare sabh sronat pai gan taaje |

Many elephants have fallen at that place alongwith many healthy steeds, all are smeared with blood.

ਜਾਨੁਕ ਨੀਰਧ ਮਧਿ ਛਪੇ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਧਰ ਕੇ ਭਯ ਤੇ ਨਗ ਭਾਜੇ ॥੩੨॥੧੦੯॥

jaanuk neeradh madh chhape bhram bhoodhar ke bhay te nag bhaaje |32|109|

It appears that running away out of the fear of Indra, the mountains have hidden themselves in the sea.32.109.

MANOHAR STANZA

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਜਗਮਾਤ ਕਮਾਨ ਲੈ ਹਾਥਿ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਥਨਿ ਸੰਖ ਪ੍ਰਜ੍ਰਯੋ ਜਬ ਜੁਧੰ ॥

sree jagamaat kamaan lai haath pramaathan sankh prajrayo jab judhan |

When the Mother of Universe waged the war, holding her bow in her hand and blowing her conch

ਗਾਤਹ ਸੈਣ ਸੰਘਾਰਤ ਸੂਰ ਬਬਕਤਿ ਸਿੰਘ ਭ੍ਰਮ︀ਯੋ ਰਣਿ ਕ੍ਰੁਧੰ ॥

gaatah sain sanghaarat soor babakat singh bhramayo ran krudhan |

Her lion walked roaring in the field in great ire, crushing and destroying the forces of the enemy.

ਕਉਚਹਿ ਭੇਦਿ ਅਭੇਦਿਤ ਅੰਗ ਸੁਰੰਗ ਉਤੰਗ ਸੋ ਸੋਭਿਤ ਸੁਧੰ ॥

kaucheh bhed abhedit ang surang utang so sobhit sudhan |

He goes on tearing with his nails the armours on the bodies of the warriors and the torn limbs appear like

ਮਾਨੋ ਬਿਸਾਲ ਬੜਵਾਨਲ ਜੁਆਲ ਸਮੁਦ੍ਰ ਕੇ ਮਧਿ ਬਿਰਾਜਤ ਉਧੰ ॥੩੩॥੧੧੦॥

maano bisaal barravaanal juaal samudr ke madh biraajat udhan |33|110|

The rising flames of fire extended in midst of the ocean.33.110.

ਪੂਰ ਰਹੀ ਭਵਿ ਭੂਰ ਧਨੁਰ ਧੁਨਿ ਧੂਰ ਉਡੀ ਨਭ ਮੰਡਲ ਛਾਯੋ ॥

poor rahee bhav bhoor dhanur dhun dhoor uddee nabh manddal chhaayo |

The sound of the bow permeates the whole universe and the flying dust of the battlefield hath spread over the whole firmament.

ਨੂਰ ਭਰੇ ਮੁਖ ਮਾਰਿ ਗਿਰੇ ਰਣਿ ਹੂਰਨ ਹੇਰਿ ਹੀਯੋ ਹੁਲਸਾਯੋ ॥

noor bhare mukh maar gire ran hooran her heeyo hulasaayo |

The brightened faces have fallen after receinging blows and seeing them the hearts of the vampires have been pleased.

ਪੂਰਣ ਰੋਸ ਭਰੇ ਅਰਿ ਤੂਰਣ ਪੂਰਿ ਪਰੇ ਰਣ ਭੂਮਿ ਸੁਹਾਯੋ ॥

pooran ros bhare ar tooran poor pare ran bhoom suhaayo |

The forces of the extremely infuriated enemiesare elegantly stationed in the whole battlefield

ਚੂਰ ਭਏ ਅਰਿ ਰੂਰੇ ਗਿਰੇ ਭਟ ਚੂਰਣ ਜਾਨੁਕ ਬੈਦ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥੩੪॥੧੧੧॥

choor bhe ar roore gire bhatt chooran jaanuk baid banaayo |34|111|

And winsome and youthful warriors are falling in bits in this mannera s thouth the apothecary after grinding the earth, hath prepared the digestive medicine (Churan).34.111.

The sounds of the blows of the daggers and swords are being heard.

ਤਾਗੜਦੰ ਤੀਰੰ ਤੁਪਕੰ ਤੜਾਕੰ ॥

taagarradan teeran tupakan tarraakan |

The sounds of the shafts and gunshots are being heard.

ਝਾਗੜਦੰ ਨਾਗੜਦੰ ਬਾਗੜਦੰ ਬਾਜੇ ॥

jhaagarradan naagarradan baagarradan baaje |

Various sounds of musical instruments are resounding.

ਗਾਗੜਦੰ ਗਾਜੀ ਮਹਾ ਗਜ ਗਾਜੇ ॥੩੫॥੧੧੨॥

The warriors are roaring and shouting loudly.35.112.

ਸਾਗੜਦੰ ਸੂਰੰ ਕਾਗੜਦੰ ਕੋਪੰ ॥

saagarradan sooran kaagarradan kopan |

ਪਾਗੜਦੰ ਪਰਮੰ ਰਣੰ ਪਾਵ ਰੋਪੰ ॥

paagarradan paraman ranan paav ropan |

The great heroes have been struck.

ਸਾਗੜਦੰ ਸਸਤ੍ਰੰ ਝਾਗੜਦੰ ਝਾਰੈ ॥

saagarradan sasatran jhaagarradan jhaarai |

ਬਾਗੜਦੰ ਬੀਰੰ ਡਾਗੜਦੰ ਡਕਾਰੇ ॥੩੬॥੧੧੩॥

baagarradan beeran ddaagarradan ddakaare |36|113|

And the brave fighters are belching.36.113.

ਚਾਗੜਦੰ ਚਉਪੇ ਬਾਗੜਦੰ ਬੀਰੰ ॥

chaagarradan chaupe baagarradan beeran |

ਮਾਗੜਦੰ ਮਾਰੇ ਤਨੰ ਤਿਛ ਤੀਰੰ ॥

maagarradan maare tanan tichh teeran |

The worriors seem pleased on shooting sharp arrows on the bodies.

ਗਾਗੜਦੰ ਗਜੇ ਸੁ ਬਜੇ ਗਹੀਰੈ ॥

gaagarradan gaje su baje gaheerai |

ਕਾਗੜੰ ਕਵੀਯਾਨ ਕਥੈ ਕਥੀਰੈ ॥੩੭॥੧੧੪॥

kaagarran kaveeyaan kathai katheerai |37|114|

There are loud shouts with porofound resoundings, and the poets describe them in their verses.37.114.

ਦਾਗੜਦੰ ਦਾਨੋ ਭਾਗੜਦੰ ਭਾਜੇ ॥

daagarradan daano bhaagarradan bhaaje |

ਗਾਗੜਦੰ ਗਾਜੀ ਜਾਗੜਦੰ ਗਾਜੇ ॥

gaagarradan gaajee jaagarradan gaaje |

The demons are running away and the heroes are shouting loudly.

ਛਾਗੜਦੰ ਛਉਹੀ ਛੁਰੇ ਪ੍ਰੇਛੜਾਕੇ ॥

chhaagarradan chhauhee chhure prechharraake |

ਤਾਗੜਦੰ ਤੀਰੰ ਤੁਪਕੰ ਤੜਾਕੇ ॥੩੮॥੧੧੫॥

taagarradan teeran tupakan tarraake |38|115|

The sounds are produced by the striking axes and daggers. The arrows and the guns are creating their own noses.38.115.

ਗਾਗੜਦੰ ਗੋਮਾਯ ਗਜੇ ਗਹੀਰੰ ॥

gaagarradan gomaay gaje gaheeran |

ਸਾਗੜਦੰ ਸੰਖੰ ਨਾਗੜਦੰ ਨਫੀਰੰ ॥

saagarradan sankhan naagarradan nafeeran |

The loud noise of drums and the resounding of conches and trumpets is being heard in the battlefield.

ਬਾਗੜਦੰ ਬਾਜੇ ਬਜੇ ਬੀਰ ਖੇਤੰ ॥

baagarradan baaje baje beer khetan |

ਨਾਗੜਦੰ ਨਾਚੇ ਸੁ ਭੂਤੰ ਪਰੇਤੰ ॥੩੯॥੧੧੬॥

naagarradan naache su bhootan paretan |39|116|

The musical instruments of the warriors are being played and the ghosts and goblins are dancing.39.116.

ਤਾਗੜਦੰ ਤੀਰੰ ਬਾਗੜਦੰ ਬਾਣੰ ॥

taagarradan teeran baagarradan baanan |

ਕਾਗੜਦੰ ਕਾਤੀ ਕਟਾਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣੰ ॥

kaagarradan kaatee kattaaree kripaanan |

The noises of the arrows and shafts, daggers and swords are being heard.

ਨਾਗੜਦੰ ਨਾਦੰ ਬਾਗੜਦੰ ਬਾਜੇ ॥

naagarradan naadan baagarradan baaje |

ਸਾਗੜਦੰ ਸੂਰੰ ਰਾਗੜਦੰ ਰਾਜੇ ॥੪੦॥੧੧੭॥

saagarradan sooran raagarradan raaje |40|117|

The music of the musical instruments and the drumming of the trumpets resounds and the warriors and chieftains are doing their job amidst such resonance.40.117.

ਸਾਗੜਦੰ ਸੰਖੰ ਨਾਗੜਦੰ ਨਫੀਰੰ ॥

ਗਾਗੜਦੰ ਗੋਮਾਯ ਗਜੇ ਗਹੀਰੰ ॥

The conches, clarionets and the drums resounded.

ਨਾਗੜਦੰ ਨਗਾਰੇ ਬਾਗੜਦੰ ਬਾਜੇ ॥

naagarradan nagaare baagarradan baaje |

ਜਾਗੜਦੰ ਜੋਧਾ ਗਾਗੜਦੰ ਗਾਜੇ ॥੪੧॥੧੧੮॥

jaagarradan jodhaa gaagarradan gaaje |41|118|

The trumpets and musical instruments produced their sounds and alongwith their resonance, the warriors thundered.41.118.

ਜਿਤੇਕੁ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰੀਯੰ ॥

ਤਿਤੇਕੁ ਦੇਬਿ ਮਾਰੀਯੰ ॥

All the forms of demons created with the spilling of the blood of Rakat Beej on ground, were killed by the goddess.

ਜਿਤੇਕੇ ਰੂਪ ਧਾਰਹੀ ॥

jiteke roop dhaarahee |

ਤਿਤਿਓ ਦ੍ਰੁਗਾ ਸੰਘਾਰਹੀ ॥੪੨॥੧੧੯॥

titio drugaa sanghaarahee |42|119|

All the forms that are going to materialize, will also be destroyed by Durga.42.119.

ਜਿਤੇਕੁ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਵਾ ਝਰੇ ॥

jitek sasatr vaa jhare |

ਪ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਸ੍ਰੋਨ ਕੇ ਪਰੇ ॥

pravaah sron ke pare |

With the showering of weapons (on Rakat Beej), the currents of blood ooxed out (from the body of Rakat Beej).

ਜਿਤੀਕਿ ਬਿੰਦਕਾ ਗਿਰੈ ॥

jiteek bindakaa girai |

ਸੁ ਪਾਨ ਕਾਲਿਕਾ ਕਰੈ ॥੪੩॥੧੨੦॥

su paan kaalikaa karai |43|120|

All the drops that fell (on the ground), the goddess Kali drank them all.43.120.

RASAAVAL STANZA

ਹੂਓ ਸ੍ਰੋਣ ਹੀਨੰ ॥

ਭਯੋ ਅੰਗ ਛੀਨੰ ॥

bhayo ang chheenan |

The demon-chief Rakat Beej became bloodless and his limbs became very weak.

ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ਅੰਤਿ ਝੂਮੰ ॥

giriyo ant jhooman |

ਮਨੋ ਮੇਘ ਭੂਮੰ ॥੪੪॥੧੨੧॥

mano megh bhooman |44|121|

Ultimatley he fell down on the ground wavering like the clound on he earth.44.121.

ਸਬੇ ਦੇਵ ਹਰਖੇ ॥

sabe dev harakhe |

ਸੁਮਨ ਧਾਰ ਬਰਖੇ ॥

suman dhaar barakhe |

All the gods were pleased (to see this) and they showered the flowers.

ਰਕਤ ਬਿੰਦ ਮਾਰੇ ॥

rakat bind maare |

ਸਬੈ ਸੰਤ ਉਬਾਰੇ ॥੪੫॥੧੨੨॥

sabai sant ubaare |45|122|

Rakat Beej was killed and in this way the goddess saved the saints.45.122.

ਇਤਿ ਸ੍ਰੀ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨਾਟਕੇ ਚੰਡੀ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰੇ ਰਕਤ ਬੀਰਜ ਬਧਹ ਚਤੁਰਥ ਧਿਆਯ ਸੰਪੂਰਨਮ ਸਤੁ ਸੁਭਮ ਸਤੁ ॥੪॥

eit sree bachitr naattake chanddee charitre rakat beeraj badhah chaturath dhiaay sanpooranam sat subham sat |4|

Thus the Fourth Chapter entitled “The Killing of Rakat Beej” of Chandi Charitra of BACHITTAR is completed.4.

When Sumbh and Nisumbh heard about the destruction of Rakat Beej

ਆਪ ਚੜਤ ਭੈ ਜੋਰਿ ਦਲ ਸਜੇ ਪਰਸੁ ਅਰੁ ਪਾਸਿ ॥੧॥੧੨੩॥

aap charrat bhai jor dal saje paras ar paas |1|123|

They marched forward themselves gathering their forces and bedecking themselves with axes and nooses.1.123.

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਚੜੇ ਸੁੰਭ ਨੈਸੁੰਭ ਸੂਰਾ ਅਪਾਰੰ ॥

charre sunbh naisunbh sooraa apaaran |

The mighty warriors Sumbh and Nisumbh began the invasion.

ਉਠੇ ਨਦ ਨਾਦੰ ਸੁ ਧਉਸਾ ਧੁਕਾਰੰ ॥

autthe nad naadan su dhausaa dhukaaran |

The sound of musical instruments and trumpets resounded.

ਭਈ ਅਸਟ ਸੈ ਕੋਸ ਲਉ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਛਾਯੰ ॥

bhee asatt sai kos lau chhatr chhaayan |

The shade of canopies spread over eight hundred kos.

ਭਜੇ ਚੰਦ ਸੂਰੰ ਡਰਿਯੋ ਦੇਵ ਰਾਯੰ ॥੨॥੧੨੪॥

bhaje chand sooran ddariyo dev raayan |2|124|

And the sun and moon sped away and Indra, the king of gods was frightened.2.124.

ਭਕਾ ਭੁੰਕ ਭੇਰੀ ਢਕਾ ਢੁੰਕ ਢੋਲੰ ॥

bhakaa bhunk bheree dtakaa dtunk dtolan |

The drum and the tabor reverberated.

ਫਟੀ ਨਖ ਸਿੰਘੰ ਮੁਖੰ ਡਢ ਕੋਲੰ ॥

fattee nakh singhan mukhan ddadt kolan |

The earth splitted because of the roar of the lion and the attack of his nails.

ਡਮਾ ਡੰਮਿ ਡਉਰੂ ਡਕਾ ਡੁੰਕ ਡੰਕੰ ॥

ddamaa ddam ddauroo ddakaa ddunk ddankan |

The sound of the trumpets and the tabors is being heard.

ਰੜੇ ਗ੍ਰਿਧ ਬ੍ਰਿਧੰ ਕਿਲਕਾਰ ਕੰਕੰ ॥੩॥੧੨੫॥

rarre gridh bridhan kilakaar kankan |3|125|

And the huge vultures and crows are shrieking and flying .3.125.

ਖੁਰੰ ਖੇਹ ਉਠੀ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਗੈਨ ਪੂਰੰ ॥

khuran kheh utthee rahiyo gain pooran |

The sky is filled with the dust risen by the hooves of the animals.

ਦਲੇ ਸਿੰਧੁ ਬਿਧੰ ਭਏ ਪਬ ਚੂਰੰ ॥

dale sindh bidhan bhe pab chooran |

And these animals have broken into prices Vidhyachal mountain and other small mounts.

ਸੁਣੋ ਸੋਰ ਕਾਲੀ ਗਹੈ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਪਾਣੰ ॥

suno sor kaalee gahai sasatr paanan |

The goddess Kali hearing the din, held her weapons in her hands.

ਕਿਲਕਾਰ ਜੇਮੀ ਹਨੇ ਜੰਗ ਜੁਆਣੰ ॥੪॥੧੨੬॥

kilakaar jemee hane jang juaanan |4|126|

While roaring she ate up the limps of the killed youthful warriors.4.126.

ਮਾਂਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Maajh, Fifth Mehl:

ਝੂਠਾ ਮੰਗਣੁ ਜੇ ਕੋਈ ਮਾਗੈ ॥

jhootthaa mangan je koee maagai |

One who asks for a false gift,

ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਮਰਤੇ ਘੜੀ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ॥

tis kau marate gharree na laagai |

shall not take even an instant to die.

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਜੋ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸੇਵੈ ਸੋ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਕਹਣਾ ॥੧॥

paarabraham jo sad hee sevai so gur mil nihachal kahanaa |1|

But one who continually serves the Supreme Lord God and meets the Guru, is said to be immortal. ||1||

ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਲਾਗੀ ॥

prem bhagat jis kai man laagee |

One whose mind is dedicated to loving devotional worship

ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਿਤਿ ਜਾਗੀ ॥

gun gaavai anadin nit jaagee |

sings His Glorious Praises night and day, and remains forever awake and aware.

ਬਾਹ ਪਕੜਿ ਤਿਸੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਮੇਲੈ ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਹਣਾ ॥੨॥

baah pakarr tis suaamee melai jis kai masatak lahanaa |2|

Taking him by the hand, the Lord and Master merges into Himself that person, upon whose forehead such destiny is written. ||2||

ਚਰਨ ਕਮਲ ਭਗਤਾਂ ਮਨਿ ਵੁਠੇ ॥

charan kamal bhagataan man vutthe |

His Lotus Feet dwell in the minds of His devotees.

ਵਿਣੁ ਪਰਮੇਸਰ ਸਗਲੇ ਮੁਠੇ ॥

vin paramesar sagale mutthe |

Without the Transcendent Lord, all are plundered.

ਸੰਤ ਜਨਾਂ ਕੀ ਧੂੜਿ ਨਿਤ ਬਾਂਛਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਚੇ ਕਾ ਗਹਣਾ ॥੩॥

sant janaan kee dhoorr nit baanchheh naam sache kaa gahanaa |3|

I long for the dust of the feet of His humble servants. The Name of the True Lord is my decoration. ||3||

ਊਠਤ ਬੈਠਤ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਗਾਈਐ ॥

aootthat baitthat har har gaaeeai |

Standing up and sitting down, I sing the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਵਰੁ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

jis simarat var nihachal paaeeai |

Meditating in remembrance on Him, I obtain my Eternal Husband Lord.

ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਸਹਣਾ ॥੪॥੪੩॥੫੦॥

naanak kau prabh hoe deaalaa teraa keetaa sahanaa |4|43|50|

God has become merciful to Nanak. I cheerfully accept Your Will. ||4||43||50||

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਸਬਦਿ ਰੰਗਾਏ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਬਾਏ ॥

sabad rangaae hukam sabaae |

By His Command, all are attuned to the Word of the Shabad,

ਸਚੀ ਦਰਗਹ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਏ ॥

sachee daragah mehal bulaae |

and all are called to the Mansion of His Presence, the True Court of the Lord.

ਸਚੇ ਦੀਨ ਦਇਆਲ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਸਚੇ ਮਨੁ ਪਤੀਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥

sache deen deaal mere saahibaa sache man pateeaavaniaa |1|

O my True Lord and Master, Merciful to the meek, my mind is pleased and appeased by the Truth. ||1||

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥

hau vaaree jeeo vaaree sabad suhaavaniaa |

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, to those who are adorned with the Word of the Shabad.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

amrit naam sadaa sukhadaataa guramatee man vasaavaniaa |1| rahaau |

The Ambrosial Naam, the Name of the Lord, is forever the Giver of Peace. Through the Guru's Teachings, it dwells in the mind. ||1||Pause||

ਨਾ ਕੋ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਉ ਕਿਸੁ ਕੇਰਾ ॥

naa ko meraa hau kis keraa |

No one is mine, and I am no one else's.

ਸਾਚਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਭਵਣਿ ਮੇਰਾ ॥

saachaa tthaakur tribhavan meraa |

The True Lord and Master of the three worlds is mine.

ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਇ ਘਣੇਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਅਵਗਣ ਪਛੋਤਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

haumai kar kar jaae ghaneree kar avagan pachhotaavaniaa |2|

Acting in egotism, so very many have died. After making mistakes, they later repent and regret. ||2||

ਹੁਕਮੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ਸੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥

hukam pachhaanai su har gun vakhaanai |

Those who recognize the Hukam of the Lord's Command chant the Glorious Praises of the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਨੀਸਾਣੈ ॥

gur kai sabad naam neesaanai |

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, they are glorified with the Naam.

ਸਭਨਾ ਕਾ ਦਰਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਸਚੈ ਛੂਟਸਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸੁਹਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

sabhanaa kaa dar lekhaa sachai chhoottas naam suhaavaniaa |3|

Everyone's account is kept in the True Court, and through the Beauty of the Naam, they are saved. ||3||

ਮਨਮੁਖੁ ਭੂਲਾ ਠਉਰੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ॥

manamukh bhoolaa tthaur na paae |

The self-willed manmukhs are deluded; they find no place of rest.

ਜਮ ਦਰਿ ਬਧਾ ਚੋਟਾ ਖਾਏ ॥

jam dar badhaa chottaa khaae |

Bound and gagged at Death's Door, they are brutally beaten.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਕੋ ਸੰਗਿ ਨ ਸਾਥੀ ਮੁਕਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥

bin naavai ko sang na saathee mukate naam dhiaavaniaa |4|

Without the Name, there are no companions or friends. Liberation comes only by meditating on the Naam. ||4||

ਸਾਕਤ ਕੂੜੇ ਸਚੁ ਨ ਭਾਵੈ ॥

saakat koorre sach na bhaavai |

The false shaaktas, the faithless cynics, do not like the Truth.

ਦੁਬਿਧਾ ਬਾਧਾ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਵੈ ॥

dubidhaa baadhaa aavai jaavai |

Bound by duality, they come and go in reincarnation.

ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ਨ ਮੇਟੈ ਕੋਈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥

likhiaa lekh na mettai koee guramukh mukat karaavaniaa |5|

No one can erase pre-recorded destiny; the Gurmukhs are liberated. ||5||

ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਜਾਤੋ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

peeearrai pir jaato naahee |

In this world of her parents' house, the young bride did not know her Husband.

ਝੂਠਿ ਵਿਛੁੰਨੀ ਰੋਵੈ ਧਾਹੀ ॥

jhootth vichhunee rovai dhaahee |

Through falsehood, she has been separated from Him, and she cries out in misery.

ਅਵਗਣਿ ਮੁਠੀ ਮਹਲੁ ਨ ਪਾਏ ਅਵਗਣ ਗੁਣਿ ਬਖਸਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥

avagan mutthee mehal na paae avagan gun bakhasaavaniaa |6|

Defrauded by demerits, she does not find the Mansion of the Lord's Presence. But through virtuous actions, her demerits are forgiven. ||6||

ਪੇਈਅੜੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਪਿਆਰਾ ॥

peeearrai jin jaataa piaaraa |

She, who knows her Beloved in her parents' house,

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਤੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥

guramukh boojhai tat beechaaraa |

as Gurmukh, comes to understand the essence of reality; she contemplates her Lord.

ਆਵਣੁ ਜਾਣਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥

aavan jaanaa tthaak rahaae sachai naam samaavaniaa |7|

Her comings and goings cease, and she is absorbed in the True Name. ||7||

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਅਕਥੁ ਕਹਾਵੈ ॥

guramukh boojhai akath kahaavai |

The Gurmukhs understand and describe the Indescribable.

ਸਚੇ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਸਾਚੋ ਭਾਵੈ ॥

sache tthaakur saacho bhaavai |

True is our Lord and Master; He loves the Truth.

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਸਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧॥

naanak sach kahai benantee sach milai gun gaavaniaa |8|1|

Nanak offers this true prayer: singing His Glorious Praises, I merge with the True One. ||8||1||

ਕਰਮੁ ਹੋਵੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥

By His Mercy, we meet the True Guru.

ਸੇਵਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਏ ॥

sevaa surat sabad chit laae |

Center your awareness on seva-selfless service-and focus your consciousness on the Word of the Shabad.

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥

haumai maar sadaa sukh paaeaa maaeaa mohu chukaavaniaa |1|

Subduing your ego, you shall find a lasting peace, and your emotional attachment to Maya will be dispelled. ||1||

ਹਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਜੀਉ ਵਾਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਬਲਿਹਾਰਣਿਆ ॥

hau vaaree jeeo vaaree satigur kai balihaaraniaa |

I am a sacrifice, my soul is a sacrifice, I am totally devoted to the True Guru.

ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਹੋਆ ਜੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

guramatee paragaas hoaa jee anadin har gun gaavaniaa |1| rahaau |

Through the Guru's Teachings, the Divine Light has dawned; I sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, night and day. ||1||Pause||

ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਖੋਜੇ ਤਾ ਨਾਉ ਪਾਏ ॥

tan man khoje taa naau paae |

Search your body and mind, and find the Name.

ਧਾਵਤੁ ਰਾਖੈ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਏ ॥

dhaavat raakhai tthaak rahaae |

Restrain your wandering mind, and keep it in check.

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਹਜੇ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੨॥

gur kee baanee anadin gaavai sahaje bhagat karaavaniaa |2|

Night and day, sing the Songs of the Guru's Bani; worship the Lord with intuitive devotion. ||2||

ਇਸੁ ਕਾਇਆ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਅਸੰਖਾ ॥

eis kaaeaa andar vasat asankhaa |

Within this body are countless objects.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਾਚੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਵੇਖਾ ॥

guramukh saach milai taa vekhaa |

The Gurmukh attains Truth, and comes to see them.

ਨਉ ਦਰਵਾਜੇ ਦਸਵੈ ਮੁਕਤਾ ਅਨਹਦ ਸਬਦੁ ਵਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੩॥

nau daravaaje dasavai mukataa anahad sabad vajaavaniaa |3|

Beyond the nine gates, the Tenth Gate is found, and liberation is obtained. The Unstruck Melody of the Shabad vibrates. ||3||

ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥

sachaa saahib sachee naaee |

True is the Master, and True is His Name.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥

gur parasaadee man vasaaee |

By Guru's Grace, He comes to dwell within the mind.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੪॥

anadin sadaa rahai rang raataa dar sachai sojhee paavaniaa |4|

Night and day, remain attuned to the Lord's Love forever, and you shall obtain understanding in the True Court. ||4||

ਪਾਪ ਪੁੰਨ ਕੀ ਸਾਰ ਨ ਜਾਣੀ ॥

paap pun kee saar na jaanee |

Those who do not understand the nature of sin and virtue

ਦੂਜੈ ਲਾਗੀ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਣੀ ॥

doojai laagee bharam bhulaanee |

are attached to duality; they wander around deluded.

ਅਗਿਆਨੀ ਅੰਧਾ ਮਗੁ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਵਣ ਜਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੫॥

agiaanee andhaa mag na jaanai fir fir aavan jaavaniaa |5|

The ignorant and blind people do not know the way; they come and go in reincarnation over and over again. ||5||

ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

gur sevaa te sadaa sukh paaeaa |

Serving the Guru, I have found eternal peace;

ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਇਆ ॥

haumai meraa tthaak rahaaeaa |

my ego has been silenced and subdued.

ਗੁਰ ਸਾਖੀ ਮਿਟਿਆ ਅੰਧਿਆਰਾ ਬਜਰ ਕਪਾਟ ਖੁਲਾਵਣਿਆ ॥੬॥

gur saakhee mittiaa andhiaaraa bajar kapaatt khulaavaniaa |6|

Through the Guru's Teachings, the darkness has been dispelled, and the heavy doors have been opened. ||6||

ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥

haumai maar man vasaaeaa |

Subduing my ego, I have enshrined the Lord within my mind.

ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਸਦਾ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

gur charanee sadaa chit laaeaa |

I focus my consciousness on the Guru's Feet forever.

ਗੁਰ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਵਣਿਆ ॥੭॥

gur kirapaa te man tan niramal niramal naam dhiaavaniaa |7|

By Guru's Grace, my mind and body are immaculate and pure; I meditate on the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||7||

ਜੀਵਣੁ ਮਰਣਾ ਸਭੁ ਤੁਧੈ ਤਾਈ ॥

jeevan maranaa sabh tudhai taaee |

From birth to death, everything is for You.

ਜਿਸੁ ਬਖਸੇ ਤਿਸੁ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

jis bakhase tis de vaddiaaee |

You bestow greatness upon those whom You have forgiven.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਸਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਿਆ ॥੮॥੧॥੨॥

naanak naam dhiaae sadaa toon jaman maran savaaraniaa |8|1|2|

O Nanak, meditating forever on the Naam, you shall be blessed in both birth and death. ||8||1||2||
