Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਹੁਕਮਿ ਸਭ ਸਾਜੀ ॥
aape srisatt hukam sabh saajee |
He Himself fashioned the Universe, through the Hukam of His Command.
ਆਪੇ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪਿ ਨਿਵਾਜੀ ॥
aape thaap uthaap nivaajee |
He Himself establishes and disestablishes, and embellishes with grace.
ਆਪੇ ਨਿਆਉ ਕਰੇ ਸਭੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਚਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
aape niaau kare sabh saachaa saache saach milaaeidaa |1|
The True Lord Himself administers all justice; through Truth, we merge in the True Lord. ||1||
ਕਾਇਆ ਕੋਟੁ ਹੈ ਆਕਾਰਾ ॥
kaaeaa kott hai aakaaraa |
The body takes the form of a fortress.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਪਸਰਿਆ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥
maaeaa mohu pasariaa paasaaraa |
Emotional attachment to Maya has expanded throughout its expanse.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਬਦੈ ਭਸਮੈ ਕੀ ਢੇਰੀ ਖੇਹੂ ਖੇਹ ਰਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥
bin sabadai bhasamai kee dteree khehoo kheh ralaaeidaa |2|
Without the Word of the Shabad, the body is reduced to a pile of ashes; in the end, dust mingles with dust. ||2||
ਕਾਇਆ ਕੰਚਨ ਕੋਟੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
kaaeaa kanchan kott apaaraa |
The body is the infinite fortress of gold;
ਜਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਰਵਿਆ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
jis vich raviaa sabad apaaraa |
it is permeated by the Infinite Word of the Shabad.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਾਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਸਾਚੇ ਮਿਲਿ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥
guramukh gaavai sadaa gun saache mil preetam sukh paaeidaa |3|
The Gurmukh sings the Glorious Praises of the True Lord forever; meeting his Beloved, he finds peace. ||3||
ਕਾਇਆ ਹਰਿ ਮੰਦਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
kaaeaa har mandar har aap savaare |
The body is the temple of the Lord; the Lord Himself embellishes it.
ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਚਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਵਸੈ ਮੁਰਾਰੇ ॥
tis vich har jeeo vasai muraare |
The Dear Lord dwells within it.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਵਣਜਨਿ ਵਾਪਾਰੀ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥
gur kai sabad vanajan vaapaaree nadaree aap milaaeidaa |4|
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, the merchants trade, and in His Grace, the Lord merges them with Himself. ||4||
ਸੋ ਸੂਚਾ ਜਿ ਕਰੋਧੁ ਨਿਵਾਰੇ ॥
so soochaa ji karodh nivaare |
He alone is pure, who eradicates anger.
ਸਬਦੇ ਬੂਝੈ ਆਪੁ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥
sabade boojhai aap savaare |
He realizes the Shabad, and reforms himself.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਕਰਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥
aape kare karaae karataa aape man vasaaeidaa |5|
The Creator Himself acts, and inspires all to act; He Himself abides in the mind. ||5||
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੈ ਨਿਰਾਲੀ ॥
niramal bhagat hai niraalee |
Pure and unique is devotional worship.
ਮਨੁ ਤਨੁ ਧੋਵਹਿ ਸਬਦਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
man tan dhoveh sabad veechaaree |
The mind and body are washed clean, contemplating the Shabad.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਭਗਤਿ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥
anadin sadaa rahai rang raataa kar kirapaa bhagat karaaeidaa |6|
One who remains forever imbued with His Love, night and day - in His Mercy, the Lord inspires him to perform devotional worship service. ||6||
ਇਸੁ ਮਨ ਮੰਦਰ ਮਹਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਧਾਵੈ ॥
eis man mandar meh manooaa dhaavai |
In this temple of the mind, the mind wanders around.
ਸੁਖੁ ਪਲਰਿ ਤਿਆਗਿ ਮਹਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਵੈ ॥
sukh palar tiaag mahaa dukh paavai |
Discarding joy like straw, it suffers in terrible pain.
ਬਿਨੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭੇਟੇ ਠਉਰ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਆਪੇ ਖੇਲੁ ਕਰਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥
bin satigur bhette tthaur na paavai aape khel karaaeidaa |7|
Without meeting the True Guru, it finds no place of rest; He Himself has staged this play. ||7||
ਆਪਿ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਆਪਿ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ॥
aap aparanpar aap veechaaree |
He Himself is infinite; He contemplates Himself.
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੀ ॥
aape mele karanee saaree |
He Himself bestows Union through actions of excellence.
ਕਿਆ ਕੋ ਕਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥
kiaa ko kaar kare vechaaraa aape bakhas milaaeidaa |8|
What can the poor creatures do? Granting forgiveness, He unites them with Himself. ||8||
ਆਪੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲੇ ਪੂਰਾ ॥
aape satigur mele pooraa |
The Perfect Lord Himself unites them with the True Guru.
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਹਾਬਲ ਸੂਰਾ ॥
sachai sabad mahaabal sooraa |
Through the True Word of the Shabad, he makes them brave spiritual heroes.
ਆਪੇ ਮੇਲੇ ਦੇ ਵਡਿਆਈ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥
aape mele de vaddiaaee sache siau chit laaeidaa |9|
Uniting them with Himself, He bestows glorious greatness; He inspires them to focus their consciousness on the True Lord. ||9||
ਘਰ ਹੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਾਚਾ ਸੋਈ ॥
ghar hee andar saachaa soee |
The True Lord is deep within the heart.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਿਰਲਾ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
guramukh viralaa boojhai koee |
How rare are those who, as Gurmukh, realize this.
ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
naam nidhaan vasiaa ghatt antar rasanaa naam dhiaaeidaa |10|
The treasure of the Naam abides deep within their hearts; they meditate on the Naam with their tongues. ||10||
ਦਿਸੰਤਰੁ ਭਵੈ ਅੰਤਰੁ ਨਹੀ ਭਾਲੇ ॥
disantar bhavai antar nahee bhaale |
He wanders through foreign lands, but does not look within himself.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਧਾ ਜਮਕਾਲੇ ॥
maaeaa mohi badhaa jamakaale |
Attached to Maya, he is bound and gagged by the Messenger of Death.
ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸੀ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਤੂਟੈ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਭਰਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
jam kee faasee kabahoo na toottai doojai bhaae bharamaaeidaa |11|
The noose of death around his neck will never be untied; in the love of duality, he wanders in reincarnation. ||11||
ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਹੋਰੁ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹੀ ॥
jap tap sanjam hor koee naahee |
There is no real chanting, meditation, penance or self-control,
ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਨ ਕਮਾਹੀ ॥
jab lag gur kaa sabad na kamaahee |
as long as one does not live to the Word of the Guru's Shabad.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥
gur kai sabad miliaa sach paaeaa sache sach samaaeidaa |12|
Accepting the Word of the Guru's Shabad, one obtains Truth; through Truth, one merges in the True Lord. ||12||
ਕਾਮ ਕਰੋਧੁ ਸਬਲ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥
kaam karodh sabal sansaaraa |
Sexual desire and anger are very powerful in the world.
ਬਹੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖ ਕਾ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥
bahu karam kamaaveh sabh dukh kaa pasaaraa |
They lead to all sorts of actions, but these only add to all the pain.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸੇ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਵਹਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
satigur seveh se sukh paaveh sachai sabad milaaeidaa |13|
Those who serve the True Guru find peace; they are united with the True Shabad. ||13||
ਪਉਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਹੈ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ॥
paun paanee hai baisantar |
Air, water and fire make up the body.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਰਤੈ ਸਭ ਅੰਤਰਿ ॥
maaeaa mohu varatai sabh antar |
Emotional attachment to Maya rules deep within all.
ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤੇ ਜਾ ਤਿਸੈ ਪਛਾਣਹਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
jin keete jaa tisai pachhaaneh maaeaa mohu chukaaeidaa |14|
When one realizes the One who created him, emotional attachment to Maya is dispelled. ||14||
ਇਕਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਗਰਬਿ ਵਿਆਪੇ ॥
eik maaeaa mohi garab viaape |
Some are engrossed in emotional attachment to Maya and pride.
ਹਉਮੈ ਹੋਇ ਰਹੇ ਹੈ ਆਪੇ ॥
haumai hoe rahe hai aape |
They are self-conceited and egotistical.
ਜਮਕਾਲੈ ਕੀ ਖਬਰਿ ਨ ਪਾਈ ਅੰਤਿ ਗਇਆ ਪਛੁਤਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
jamakaalai kee khabar na paaee ant geaa pachhutaaeidaa |15|
They never think about the Messenger of Death; in the end, they leave, regretting and repenting. ||15||
ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਸੋ ਬਿਧਿ ਜਾਣੈ ॥
jin upaae so bidh jaanai |
He alone knows the Way, who created it.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਵੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੈ ॥
guramukh devai sabad pachhaanai |
The Gurmukh, who is blessed with the Shabad, realizes Him.
ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਕਹੈ ਬੇਨੰਤੀ ਸਚਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੨॥੧੬॥
naanak daas kahai benantee sach naam chit laaeidaa |16|2|16|
Slave Nanak offers ths prayer; O Lord, let my consciousness be attached to the True Name. ||16||2||16||

ਪੈਂਡ ਚੂਕਿ ਪਰ ਘਰ ਮੈ ਗਈ ॥੧੧॥
paindd chook par ghar mai gee |11|
ਮੋ ਕੌ ਪਕਰਿ ਪਠਾਨਨ ਲੀਨੋ ॥
mo kau pakar patthaanan leeno |
ਕਾਮ ਕੇਲ ਬਹੁ ਮੋ ਸੌ ਕੀਨੋ ॥
kaam kel bahu mo sau keeno |
ਤਬ ਬਲ ਚਲੈ ਤੌ ਯਾ ਕੌ ਮਾਰੋ ॥
tab bal chalai tau yaa kau maaro |
ਨਹਿ ਕਾਜੀ ਪੈ ਜਾਇ ਪੁਕਾਰੋ ॥੧੨॥
neh kaajee pai jaae pukaaro |12|
ਯਾ ਮੈ ਚੂਕ ਨ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਈ ॥
yaa mai chook na teree bhee |
ਪੈਡਿ ਚੂਕਿ ਪਰ ਘਰ ਮੈ ਗਈ ॥
paidd chook par ghar mai gee |
ਪੈਠਾਨਨ ਤੋ ਕੌ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨੋ ॥
paitthaanan to kau geh leeno |
ਕਾਮ ਭੋਗ ਤੋਰੇ ਸੰਗ ਕੀਨੋ ॥੧੩॥
kaam bhog tore sang keeno |13|
ਭਲੋ ਭਯੋ ਤੂ ਘਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਅਈ ॥
bhalo bhayo too ghar fir aee |
ਪਕਰਿ ਤੁਰਕਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਨਹਿ ਲਈ ॥
pakar turakanee kar neh lee |
ਜੌ ਕੋਊ ਧਾਮ ਮਲੇਛਨ ਆਵੈ ॥
jau koaoo dhaam malechhan aavai |
ਧਰਮ ਸਹਿਤ ਫਿਰਿ ਜਾਨ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੧੪॥
dharam sahit fir jaan na paavai |14|
ਤੁਮ ਪਤਿ ਮਾਥ ਨ ਅਪਨੋ ਧੁਨੋ ॥
tum pat maath na apano dhuno |
ਮੇਰੀ ਸਕਲ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਕਹ ਸੁਨੋ ॥
meree sakal brithaa keh suno |
ਸਕਲ ਕਥਾ ਮੈ ਤੁਮੈ ਸੁਨਾਊ ॥
sakal kathaa mai tumai sunaaoo |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਤੁਮਰੋ ਭ੍ਰਮਹਿ ਮਿਟਾਊ ॥੧੫॥
taa te tumaro bhrameh mittaaoo |15|
ਜਬ ਮੈ ਭੂਲ ਧਾਮ ਤਿਹ ਗਈ ॥
jab mai bhool dhaam tih gee |
ਤਬਹਿ ਪਕਰਿ ਤੁਰਕਨ ਮੁਹਿ ਲਈ ॥
tabeh pakar turakan muhi lee |
ਤਬ ਮੈ ਤਿਨ ਸੋ ਐਸ ਉਚਾਰੋ ॥
tab mai tin so ais uchaaro |
ਤੁਮੈ ਨ ਸੂਝਤ ਨਾਥ ਹਮਾਰੋ ॥੧੬॥
tumai na soojhat naath hamaaro |16|
ਐਸੇ ਕਹਹਿ ਹੋਹਿ ਤੂ ਤੁਰਕਨਿ ॥
aise kaheh hohi too turakan |
ਮੋ ਕੌ ਲਗੇ ਲੋਗ ਮਿਲਿ ਘੁਰਕਨਿ ॥
mo kau lage log mil ghurakan |
ਕੈ ਤੂ ਹੋਹਿ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਨਾਰੀ ॥
kai too hohi hamaaree naaree |
ਨਾਤਰ ਦੇਤਿ ਠੌਰਿ ਤੁਹਿ ਮਾਰੀ ॥੧੭॥

ਤਬ ਮੈ ਤਾ ਸੌ ਚਰਿਤ ਭਾਤਿ ਐਸੋ ਕਿਯੋ ॥
tab mai taa sau charit bhaat aiso kiyo |
ਨਿਜੁ ਭਗ ਤੇ ਨਖ ਸਾਥਿ ਕਾਢਿ ਸ੍ਰੋਨਤ ਦਯੋ ॥
nij bhag te nakh saath kaadt sronat dayo |
ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਅਲਿੰਗਨ ਖਾਨ ਸਾਥ ਹਸਿ ਮੈ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥
pratham alingan khaan saath has mai kariyo |
ਹੋ ਬਹੁਰੌ ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਬਚਨ ਤਾਹਿ ਮੈ ਉਚਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੮॥
ho bahurau mukh te bachan taeh mai uchariyo |18|
ਰਿਤੁ ਆਈ ਹੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਸੁ ਮੈ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਜਾਤ ਹੋ ॥
rit aaee hai mohi su mai grih jaat ho |
ਤੁਮੈ ਸਾਥ ਬਹਲੋਲ ਨ ਭੋਗ ਕਮਾਤ ਹੋ ॥
tumai saath bahalol na bhog kamaat ho |
ਸੰਗ ਮਨੁਛ ਦੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਤਹਾ ਪਹੁਚਾਇਯੈ ॥
sang manuchh dai mohi tahaa pahuchaaeiyai |
ਹੋ ਦਿਵਸ ਤੀਸਰੇ ਮੋ ਕੌ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਬੁਲਾਇਯੈ ॥੧੯॥
ho divas teesare mo kau bahur bulaaeiyai |19|
ਸੁਨਿ ਐਸੇ ਬਚ ਮੋਹਿ ਖਾਨ ਤਬ ਤਜਿ ਦਿਯੋ ॥
sun aise bach mohi khaan tab taj diyo |
ਕਾਮ ਭੋਗ ਤਹ ਸੰਗ ਨ ਮੈ ਐਸੋ ਕਿਯੋ ॥
kaam bhog teh sang na mai aiso kiyo |
ਤਬ ਤੁਮ ਕੌ ਮੈ ਮਿਲੀ ਤਹਾ ਤੇ ਆਇ ਕੈ ॥
tab tum kau mai milee tahaa te aae kai |
ਹੋ ਅਬ ਤੁਮ ਕ੍ਰਯੋਹੂ ਮੋ ਕੌ ਲੇਹੁ ਬਚਾਇ ਕੈ ॥੨੦॥
ho ab tum krayohoo mo kau lehu bachaae kai |20|
