ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਦ ਬੇਦ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

The Gurmukh contemplates the sound current of the Naad instead of the Vedas.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਗਿਆਨੁ ਧਿਆਨੁ ਆਪਾਰੁ ॥
guramukh giaan dhiaan aapaar |
The Gurmukh attains infinite spiritual wisdom and meditation.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਾਰ ਕਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧॥
guramukh kaar kare prabh bhaavai guramukh pooraa paaeidaa |1|
The Gurmukh acts in harmony with God's Will; the Gurmukh finds perfection. ||1||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੂਆ ਉਲਟਿ ਪਰਾਵੈ ॥
guramukh manooaa ulatt paraavai |
The mind of the Gurmukh turns away from the world.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬਾਣੀ ਨਾਦੁ ਵਜਾਵੈ ॥
guramukh baanee naad vajaavai |
The Gurmukh vibrates the Naad, the sound current of the Guru's Bani.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਬੈਰਾਗੀ ਨਿਜ ਘਰਿ ਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੨॥
guramukh sach rate bairaagee nij ghar vaasaa paaeidaa |2|
The Gurmukh, attuned to the Truth, remains detached, and dwells in the home of the self deep within. ||2||
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸਾਖੀ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਭਾਖੀ ॥
gur kee saakhee amrit bhaakhee |
I speak the Ambrosial Teachings of the Guru.
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਭਾਖੀ ॥
sachai sabade sach subhaakhee |
I lovingly chant the Truth, through the True Word of the Shabad.
ਸਦਾ ਸਚਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਸਚੇ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੩॥
sadaa sach rang raataa man meraa sache sach samaaeidaa |3|
My mind remains forever imbued with the Love of the True Lord. I am immersed in the Truest of the True. ||3||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਸਤ ਸਰਿ ਨਾਵੈ ॥
guramukh man niramal sat sar naavai |
Immaculate and pure is the mind of the Gurmukh, who bathes in the Pool of Truth.
ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਵੈ ॥
mail na laagai sach samaavai |
No filth attaches to him; he merges in the True Lord.
ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਚੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਇਦਾ ॥੪॥
sacho sach kamaavai sad hee sachee bhagat drirraaeidaa |4|
He truly practices Truth forever; true devotion is implanted within him. ||4||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਬੈਣੀ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਨੈਣੀ ॥
guramukh sach bainee guramukh sach nainee |
True is the speech of the Gurmukh; true are the eyes of the Gurmukh.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕਰਣੀ ॥
guramukh sach kamaavai karanee |
The Gurmukh practices and lives the Truth.
ਸਦ ਹੀ ਸਚੁ ਕਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਅਵਰਾ ਸਚੁ ਕਹਾਇਦਾ ॥੫॥
sad hee sach kahai din raatee avaraa sach kahaaeidaa |5|
He speaks the Truth forever, day and night, and inspires others to speak the Truth. ||5||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੀ ਊਤਮ ਬਾਣੀ ॥
guramukh sachee aootam baanee |
True and exalted is the speech of the Gurmukh.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਵਖਾਣੀ ॥
guramukh sacho sach vakhaanee |
The Gurmukh speaks Truth, only Truth.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਦ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਾਇਦਾ ॥੬॥
guramukh sad seveh sacho sachaa guramukh sabad sunaaeidaa |6|
The Gurmukh serves the Truest of the True forever; the Gurmukh proclaims the Word of the Shabad. ||6||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
guramukh hovai su sojhee paae |
One who becomes Gurmukh understands.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਭਰਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ॥
haumai maaeaa bharam gavaae |
He rids himself of egotism, Maya and doubt.
ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪਉੜੀ ਊਤਮ ਊਚੀ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਇਦਾ ॥੭॥
gur kee paurree aootam aoochee dar sachai har gun gaaeidaa |7|
He ascends the sublime, exalted ladder of the Guru, and he sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord at His True Door. ||7||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
guramukh sach sanjam karanee saar |
The Gurmukh practices true self-control, and acts in excellence.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਏ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
guramukh paae mokh duaar |
The Gurmukh obtains the gate of salvation.
ਭਾਇ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੮॥
bhaae bhagat sadaa rang raataa aap gavaae samaaeidaa |8|
Through loving devotion, he remains forever imbued with the Lord's Love; eradicating self-conceit, he merges in the Lord. ||8||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਮਨੁ ਖੋਜਿ ਸੁਣਾਏ ॥
guramukh hovai man khoj sunaae |
One who becomes Gurmukh examines his own mind, and instructs others.
ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਦਾ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
sachai naam sadaa liv laae |
He is lovingly attuned to the True Name forever.
ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸੀ ਜੋ ਸਚੇ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਇਦਾ ॥੯॥
jo tis bhaavai soee karasee jo sache man bhaaeidaa |9|
They act in harmony with the Mind of the True Lord. ||9||
ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥
jaa tis bhaavai satiguroo milaae |
As it pleases His Will, He unites us with the True Guru.
ਜਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਤਾ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਏ ॥
jaa tis bhaavai taa man vasaae |
As it pleases His Will, He comes to dwell within the mind.
ਆਪਣੈ ਭਾਣੈ ਸਦਾ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਭਾਣੈ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੦॥
aapanai bhaanai sadaa rang raataa bhaanai man vasaaeidaa |10|
As it pleases His Will, He imbues us with His Love; as it pleases His Will, He comes to dwell in the mind. ||10||
ਮਨਹਠਿ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੇ ਸੋ ਛੀਜੈ ॥
manahatth karam kare so chheejai |
Those who act stubborn-mindedly are destroyed.
ਬਹੁਤੇ ਭੇਖ ਕਰੇ ਨਹੀ ਭੀਜੈ ॥
bahute bhekh kare nahee bheejai |
Wearing all sorts of religious robes, they do not please the Lord.
ਬਿਖਿਆ ਰਾਤੇ ਦੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਵਹਿ ਦੁਖੇ ਦੁਖਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੧॥
bikhiaa raate dukh kamaaveh dukhe dukh samaaeidaa |11|
Tinged by corruption, they earn only pain; they are immersed in pain. ||11||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਸੁਖੁ ਕਮਾਏ ॥
guramukh hovai su sukh kamaae |
One who becomes Gurmukh earns peace.
ਮਰਣ ਜੀਵਣ ਕੀ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਏ ॥
maran jeevan kee sojhee paae |
He comes to understand death and birth.
ਮਰਣੁ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਜੋ ਸਮ ਕਰਿ ਜਾਣੈ ਸੋ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੨॥
maran jeevan jo sam kar jaanai so mere prabh bhaaeidaa |12|
One who looks alike upon death and birth, is pleasing to my God. ||12||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਸੁ ਹਹਿ ਪਰਵਾਣੁ ॥
guramukh mareh su heh paravaan |
The Gurmukh, while remaining dead, is respected and approved.
ਆਵਣ ਜਾਣਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣੁ ॥
aavan jaanaa sabad pachhaan |
He realizes that coming and going are according to God's Will.
ਮਰੈ ਨ ਜੰਮੈ ਨਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਮਨ ਹੀ ਮਨਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੩॥
marai na jamai naa dukh paae man hee maneh samaaeidaa |13|
He does not die, he is not reborn, and he does not suffer in pain; his mind merges in the Mind of God. ||13||
ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥
se vaddabhaagee jinee satigur paaeaa |
Very fortunate are those who find the True Guru.
ਹਉਮੈ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਮੋਹੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
haumai vichahu mohu chukaaeaa |
They eradicate egotism and attachment from within.
ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਫਿਰਿ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸੋਭਾ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੪॥
man niramal fir mail na laagai dar sachai sobhaa paaeidaa |14|
Their minds are immaculate, and they are never again stained with filth. They are honored at the Door of the True Court. ||14||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਾਏ ਆਪੇ ॥
aape kare karaae aape |
He Himself acts, and inspires all to act.
ਆਪੇ ਵੇਖੈ ਥਾਪਿ ਉਥਾਪੇ ॥
aape vekhai thaap uthaape |
He Himself watches over all; He establishes and disestablishes.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸੇਵਾ ਮੇਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਭਾਵੈ ਸਚੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਲੇਖੈ ਪਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੫॥
guramukh sevaa mere prabh bhaavai sach sun lekhai paaeidaa |15|
The service of the Gurmukh is pleasing to my God; one who listens to the Truth is approved. ||15||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੋ ਸਚੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
guramukh sacho sach kamaavai |
The Gurmukh practices Truth, and only Truth.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਲਾਵੈ ॥
guramukh niramal mail na laavai |
The Gurmukh is immaculate; no filth attaches to him.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੀ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਦਾ ॥੧੬॥੧॥੧੫॥
naanak naam rate veechaaree naame naam samaaeidaa |16|1|15|
O Nanak, those who contemplate the Naam are imbued with it. They merge in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||16||1||15||

ਬਡੋ ਰੋਗ ਇਹ ਭਯੋ ਤਿਹਾਰੇ ॥
baddo rog ih bhayo tihaare |
ਯਾ ਕੌ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਨਹਿ ਕੋਈ ॥
yaa kau jantr mantr neh koee |
ਏਕ ਤੰਤ੍ਰ ਹੋਵੈ ਤੌ ਹੋਈ ॥੬॥

ਮਦਰਾ ਅਧਿਕ ਆਪੁ ਲੈ ਪੀਜੈ ॥

ਔਰ ਆਪਨੀ ਤਿਯ ਕਹ ਦੀਜੈ ॥

ਖਾਟ ਤਰੇ ਬਾਧ ਤੁਮ ਰਹੋ ॥
khaatt tare baadh tum raho |
ਮੁਖ ਤੇ ਪਰੇ ਕਬਿਤਨ ਕਹੋ ॥੭॥
mukh te pare kabitan kaho |7|
ਏਕ ਬੀਰ ਇਕ ਠੌਰ ਬੁਲੈਹੌ ॥

ਇਸੀ ਖਾਟ ਊਪਰ ਬਠੈਹੌ ॥

ਮਲ ਜੁਧ ਤਵ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਤਨ ਕਰਿਹੈ ॥
mal judh tav triy tan karihai |
ਤੋ ਤਵ ਰੋਗ ਬਡੋ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਹੈ ॥੮॥

ਮੂੜ ਬਾਤ ਇਹ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨੀ ॥
moorr baat ih kachhoo na jaanee |
ਦੇਹ ਅਰੋਗ ਸਰੋਗ ਪਛਾਨੀ ॥
deh arog sarog pachhaanee |
ਆਪੁ ਮੰਗਾਇ ਮਦ੍ਰਯ ਤਬ ਪਿਯੋ ॥
aap mangaae madray tab piyo |
ਜਾਰ ਸਹਿਤ ਅਬਲਾ ਕੋ ਦਿਯੋ ॥੯॥
jaar sahit abalaa ko diyo |9|
ਨਿਜੁ ਕਰ ਮੈ ਤਿਯ ਜਾਰ ਪਿਵਾਯੋ ॥
nij kar mai tiy jaar pivaayo |
ਬਪੁ ਔਧੋ ਤਰ ਖਾਟ ਬੰਧਾਯੋ ॥
bap aauadho tar khaatt bandhaayo |
ਆਖੈ ਦੋਊ ਮੂੰਦਿ ਕਰ ਲਈ ॥
aakhai doaoo moond kar lee |
ਜਾਰ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਆਰੂੜਿਤ ਭਈ ॥੧੦॥
jaar triyaa aaroorrit bhee |10|
ਭਾਟ ਪਰਿਯੋ ਤਰ ਕਬਿਤ ਉਚਾਰੈ ॥
bhaatt pariyo tar kabit uchaarai |
ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਬਿਚਾਰੈ ॥
bhed abhed kachhoo na bichaarai |
ਵਹੈ ਤੰਤ੍ਰ ਜੌ ਬੈਦ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥
vahai tantr jau baid banaayo |
ਤਾ ਤੇ ਦੇਵ ਹਮਾਰੈ ਆਯੋ ॥੧੧॥
taa te dev hamaarai aayo |11|
ਭੋਗੁ ਜਾਰ ਅਬਲਾ ਸੌ ਕਿਯੋ ॥
bhog jaar abalaa sau kiyo |
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਸੁਖ ਦਿਯੋ ॥
bhaat bhaat taa ko sukh diyo |
ਉਛਲ ਉਛਲ ਰਤਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਕਮਾਈ ॥
auchhal uchhal rat adhik kamaaee |
ਮੂਰਖ ਭਾਟ ਬਾਤ ਨਹਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧੨॥

ਤਬ ਹੀ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਚਿਤ ਤੇ ਦਈ ਪਠਾਨੀ ਡਾਰਿ ॥੩॥

ਬਨਿਜ ਕਲਾ ਬਾਲਾ ਹੁਤੀ ਲੀਨੀ ਨਿਕਟ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥
banij kalaa baalaa hutee leenee nikatt bulaae |
ਅਮਿਤ ਦਰਬੁ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਦਿਯੋ ਵਾ ਪ੍ਰਤਿ ਦਈ ਪਠਾਇ ॥੪॥

jahaa kalaa sangeet suhaaee |
ਜਬੈ ਖਾਨ ਕੀ ਉਪਮਾ ਕਰੀ ॥
jabai khaan kee upamaa karee |
ਏ ਸੁਨਿ ਬਾਤ ਨਾਰਿ ਵਹ ਢਰੀ ॥੫॥

ਇਨ ਬਾਤਨ ਅਬਲਾ ਉਰਝਾਈ ॥
ein baatan abalaa urajhaaee |
ਇਹੈ ਬਾਤ ਪਿਯ ਸੁਨਤ ਸੁਹਾਈ ॥
eihai baat piy sunat suhaaee |
ਮੈ ਇਕ ਬਾਗ ਬਨਾਯੋ ਭਲੋ ॥
mai ik baag banaayo bhalo |
ਮੁਹਿ ਲੈ ਸੰਗ ਤਹਾ ਤੁਮ ਚਲੋ ॥੬॥

ਅਬ ਲੌ ਮੈ ਕਤਹੂੰ ਨਹਿ ਗਈ ॥
ab lau mai katahoon neh gee |
ਪੈਂਡ ਅਪੈਂਡ ਨ ਪਾਵਤ ਭਈ ॥
paindd apaindd na paavat bhee |
ਰਵਿ ਸਸਿ ਕੌ ਮੁਖ ਮੈ ਨ ਦਿਖਾਯੋ ॥
rav sas kau mukh mai na dikhaayo |
ਪਿਯ ਬਿਨੁ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਮੋ ਕਹ ਭਾਯੋ ॥੭॥
piy bin kachhoo na mo keh bhaayo |7|
ਪਤਿ ਤਿਹ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਤਹਾ ਤੁਮ ਜੈਯਹੁ ॥
pat tih kahiyo tahaa tum jaiyahu |
ਯਾ ਕੌ ਬਾਗ ਦੇਖਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਐਯਹੁ ॥
yaa kau baag dekh fir aiyahu |
ਬੀਤੀ ਰੈਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਤ ਜਬ ਭਈ ॥
beetee rain praat jab bhee |
ਤਿਸੀ ਖਾਨ ਕੇ ਘਰ ਮੈ ਗਈ ॥੮॥
tisee khaan ke ghar mai gee |8|
ਤਾ ਹੀ ਬਾਗ ਨਿਰੰਜਨ ਗਯੋ ॥
taa hee baag niranjan gayo |
ਪਾਵਤ ਤਹਾ ਨਾਰਿ ਨਹਿ ਭਯੋ ॥
paavat tahaa naar neh bhayo |
ਖੋਜਤ ਅਧਿਕ ਤਹਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਪਾਈ ॥
khojat adhik tahaa triy paaee |
ਜਹਾ ਹਵੇਲੀ ਖਾਨ ਬਨਾਈ ॥੯॥
