Maaroo, Third Mehl:
ਸਚੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰੈ ॥
sach saalaahee gahir ganbheerai |
I praise the true, profound and unfathomable Lord.
ਸਭੁ ਜਗੁ ਹੈ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਕੈ ਚੀਰੈ ॥
sabh jag hai tis hee kai cheerai |
All the world is in His power.
ਸਭਿ ਘਟ ਭੋਗਵੈ ਸਦਾ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਆਪੇ ਸੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
sabh ghatt bhogavai sadaa din raatee aape sookh nivaasee he |1|
He enjoys all hearts forever, day and night; He Himself dwells in peace. ||1||
ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥
sachaa saahib sachee naaee |
True is the Lord and Master, and True is His Name.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਮੰਨਿ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
gur parasaadee man vasaaee |
By Guru's Grace, I enshrine Him in my mind.
ਆਪੇ ਆਇ ਵਸਿਆ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਤੂਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
aape aae vasiaa ghatt antar toottee jam kee faasee he |2|
He Himself has come to dwell deep within the nucleus of my heart; the noose of death has been snapped. ||2||
ਕਿਸੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਤੈ ਕਿਸੁ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥
kis sevee tai kis saalaahee |
Whom should I serve, and whom should I praise?
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੀ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਾਲਾਹੀ ॥
satigur sevee sabad saalaahee |
I serve the True Guru, and praise the Word of the Shabad.
ਸਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਦਾ ਮਤਿ ਊਤਮ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਕਮਲੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
sachai sabad sadaa mat aootam antar kamal pragaasee he |3|
Through the True Shabad, the intellect is exalted and ennobled forever, and the lotus deep within blossoms forth. ||3||
ਦੇਹੀ ਕਾਚੀ ਕਾਗਦ ਮਿਕਦਾਰਾ ॥
dehee kaachee kaagad mikadaaraa |
The body is frail and perishable, like paper.
ਬੂੰਦ ਪਵੈ ਬਿਨਸੈ ਢਹਤ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਬਾਰਾ ॥
boond pavai binasai dtehat na laagai baaraa |
When the drop of water falls upon it, it crumbles and dissolves instantaneously.
ਕੰਚਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
kanchan kaaeaa guramukh boojhai jis antar naam nivaasee he |4|
But the body of the Gurmukh, who understands, is like gold; the Naam, the Name of the Lord, dwells deep within. ||4||
ਸਚਾ ਚਉਕਾ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਕੀ ਕਾਰਾ ॥
sachaa chaukaa surat kee kaaraa |
Pure is that kitchen, which is enclosed by spiritual awareness.
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਆਧਾਰਾ ॥
har naam bhojan sach aadhaaraa |
The Lord's Name is my food, and Truth is my support.
ਸਦਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਪਵਿਤ੍ਰੁ ਹੈ ਪਾਵਨੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਘਟਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੫॥
sadaa tripat pavitru hai paavan jit ghatt har naam nivaasee he |5|
Forever satisfied, sanctified and pure is that person, within whose heart the Lord's Name abides. ||5||
ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਜੋ ਸਾਚੈ ਲਾਗੇ ॥
hau tin balihaaree jo saachai laage |
I am a sacrifice to those who are attached to the Truth.
ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਜਾਗੇ ॥
har gun gaaveh anadin jaage |
They sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord, and remain awake and aware night and day.
ਸਾਚਾ ਸੂਖੁ ਸਦਾ ਤਿਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਹਰਿ ਰਸਿ ਰਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੬॥
saachaa sookh sadaa tin antar rasanaa har ras raasee he |6|
True peace fills them forever, and their tongues savor the sublime essence of the Lord. ||6||
ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਪੂਜਾ ॥
har naam chetaa avar na poojaa |
I remember the Lord's Name, and no other at all.
ਏਕੋ ਸੇਵੀ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਦੂਜਾ ॥
eko sevee avar na doojaa |
I serve the One Lord, and no other at all.
ਪੂਰੈ ਗੁਰਿ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੭॥
poorai gur sabh sach dikhaaeaa sachai naam nivaasee he |7|
The Perfect Guru has revealed the whole Truth to me; I dwell in the True Name. ||7||
ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਜੋਨੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਫਿਰਿ ਆਇਆ ॥
bhram bhram jonee fir fir aaeaa |
Wandering, wandering in reincarnation, again and again, he comes into the world.
ਆਪਿ ਭੂਲਾ ਜਾ ਖਸਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਇਆ ॥
aap bhoolaa jaa khasam bhulaaeaa |
He is deluded and confused, when the Lord and Master confuses him.
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਬੂਝੈ ਚੀਨੈ ਸਬਦੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੮॥
har jeeo milai taa guramukh boojhai cheenai sabad abinaasee he |8|
He meets with the Dear Lord, when, as Gurmukh, he understands; he remembers the Shabad, the Word of the immortal, eternal Lord God. ||8||
ਕਾਮਿ ਕ੍ਰੋਧਿ ਭਰੇ ਹਮ ਅਪਰਾਧੀ ॥
kaam krodh bhare ham aparaadhee |
I am a sinner, overflowing with sexual desire and anger.
ਕਿਆ ਮੁਹੁ ਲੈ ਬੋਲਹ ਨਾ ਹਮ ਗੁਣ ਨ ਸੇਵਾ ਸਾਧੀ ॥
kiaa muhu lai bolah naa ham gun na sevaa saadhee |
With what mouth should I speak? I have no virtue, and I have rendered no service.
ਡੁਬਦੇ ਪਾਥਰ ਮੇਲਿ ਲੈਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਆਪੇ ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਬਿਨਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੯॥
ddubade paathar mel laihu tum aape saach naam abinaasee he |9|
I am a sinking stone; please, Lord, unite me with Yourself. Your Name is eternal and imperishable. ||9||
ਨਾ ਕੋਈ ਕਰੇ ਨ ਕਰਣੈ ਜੋਗਾ ॥
naa koee kare na karanai jogaa |
No one does anything; no one is able to do anything.
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਕਰਾਵਹਿ ਸੁ ਹੋਇਗਾ ॥
aape kareh karaaveh su hoeigaa |
That alone happens, which the Lord Himself does, and causes to be done.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੦॥
aape bakhas laihi sukh paae sad hee naam nivaasee he |10|
Those whom He Himself forgives, find peace; they dwell forever in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||10||
ਇਹੁ ਤਨੁ ਧਰਤੀ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਜਿ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
eihu tan dharatee sabad beej apaaraa |
This body is the earth, and the infinite Shabad is the seed.
ਹਰਿ ਸਾਚੇ ਸੇਤੀ ਵਣਜੁ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥
har saache setee vanaj vaapaaraa |
Deal and trade with the True Name alone.
ਸਚੁ ਧਨੁ ਜੰਮਿਆ ਤੋਟਿ ਨ ਆਵੈ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੧॥
sach dhan jamiaa tott na aavai antar naam nivaasee he |11|
The True wealth increases; it is never exhausted, when the Naam dwells deep within. ||11||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਅਵਗਣਿਆਰੇ ਨੋ ਗੁਣੁ ਕੀਜੈ ॥
har jeeo avaganiaare no gun keejai |
O Dear Lord, please bless me, the worthless sinner, with virtue.
ਆਪੇ ਬਖਸਿ ਲੈਹਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦੀਜੈ ॥
aape bakhas laihi naam deejai |
Forgive me, and bless me with Your Name.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਇਕਤੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੨॥
guramukh hovai so pat paae ikat naam nivaasee he |12|
One who becomes Gurmukh, is honored; he dwells in the Name of the One Lord alone. ||12||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਨੁ ਸਮਝ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥
antar har dhan samajh na hoee |
The wealth of the Lord is deep within one's inner being, but he does not realize it.
ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੂਝੈ ਕੋਈ ॥
gur parasaadee boojhai koee |
By Guru's Grace, one comes to understand.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਧਨੁ ਪਾਏ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੩॥
guramukh hovai so dhan paae sad hee naam nivaasee he |13|
One who becomes Gurmukh is blessed with this wealth; he lives forever in the Naam. ||13||
ਅਨਲ ਵਾਉ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਈ ॥
anal vaau bharam bhulaaee |
Fire and wind lead him into delusions of doubt.
ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਸੁਧਿ ਨ ਕਾਈ ॥
maaeaa mohi sudh na kaaee |
In love and attachment to Maya, he has no understanding at all.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਅੰਧੇ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਗਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੪॥
manamukh andhe kichhoo na soojhai guramat naam pragaasee he |14|
The blind, self-willed manmukh sees nothing; through the Guru's Teachings, the Naam is gloriously revealed. ||14||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਸੂਤੇ ॥
manamukh haumai maaeaa soote |
The manmukhs are asleep in egotism and Maya.
ਅਪਣਾ ਘਰੁ ਨ ਸਮਾਲਹਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਵਿਗੂਤੇ ॥
apanaa ghar na samaaleh ant vigoote |
They do not watch over their own homes, and are ruined in the end.
ਪਰ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਜਾਲੈ ਦੁਖੇ ਦੁਖਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੫॥
par nindaa kareh bahu chintaa jaalai dukhe dukh nivaasee he |15|
They slander others, and burn in great anxiety; they dwell in pain and suffering. ||15||
ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤੈ ਕਾਰ ਕਰਾਈ ॥
aape karatai kaar karaaee |
The Creator Himself has created the creation.
ਆਪੇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਦੇਇ ਬੁਝਾਈ ॥
aape guramukh dee bujhaaee |
He blesses the Gurmukh with understanding.
ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਮਨੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੁ ਨਾਮੇ ਨਾਮਿ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਹੇ ॥੧੬॥੫॥
naanak naam rate man niramal naame naam nivaasee he |16|5|
O Nanak, those who are attuned to the Naam - their minds become immaculate; they dwell in the Naam, and only the Naam. ||16||5||

ਲਪਟਿ ਲਪਟਿ ਤਾ ਕੇ ਆਸਨ ਕੇ ਤਰ ਗਈ ॥
lapatt lapatt taa ke aasan ke tar gee |
ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਆਸਨ ਸਭ ਲਿਯੇ ਬਨਾਇ ਕੈ ॥
chauaraasee aasan sabh liye banaae kai |
ਹੋ ਆਠ ਜਾਮ ਰਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਹਰਖ ਉਪਜਾਇ ਕੈ ॥੯॥

ਚੌਰਾਸੀ ਆਸਨ ਸਭ ਕਰੇ ਬਨਾਇ ਕਰਿ ॥
chauaraasee aasan sabh kare banaae kar |
ਹੋ ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਰਤਿ ਕਰੀ ਗਰੇ ਲਪਟਾਇ ਕਰਿ ॥੧੧॥

ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਤਾ ਸੌ ਰਤਿ ਕਰੀ ॥
bhaat bhaat taa sau rat karee |
ਮੋ ਤੇ ਜਾਤ ਬਾਤ ਨਹਿ ਜਰੀ ॥੧੩॥
mo te jaat baat neh jaree |13|
ਸਾਹਿਜਹਾ ਪੈ ਅਬੈ ਪੁਕਾਰੌ ॥
saahijahaa pai abai pukaarau |
ਛਿਨ ਮੈ ਤੁਮੈ ਖ੍ਵਾਰ ਕਰਿ ਡਾਰੌ ॥
chhin mai tumai khvaar kar ddaarau |
ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਬੈਨ ਜਾਤ ਭੀ ਤਹਾ ॥
yau keh bain jaat bhee tahaa |
ਹਜਰਤਿ ਰੰਗ ਮਹਲ ਮਹਿ ਜਹਾ ॥੧੪॥
hajarat rang mehal meh jahaa |14|
ਉਦੈਪੁਰੀ ਤਿਹ ਸੰਗ ਲ︀ਯਾਈ ॥
audaipuree tih sang layaaee |
ਤਬ ਲੌ ਨਾਰਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਿ ਸੁਨਾਈ ॥
tab lau naar pukaar sunaaee |
ਸਾਹਿਜਹਾ ਤਬ ਬਚਨ ਉਚਾਰੇ ॥
saahijahaa tab bachan uchaare |
ਕਵਨ ਕਰਤ ਇਹ ਸੋਰ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥੧੫॥
kavan karat ih sor duaare |15|

yaa kau manai karo jin jaaro |
ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਜਨ ਸੰਗ ਅਮਿਤ ਕਰਿ ਦਏ ॥

ਤਾ ਕਹ ਪਕਰਿ ਜਰਾਵਤ ਭਏ ॥੧੭॥
taa keh pakar jaraavat bhe |17|
