ਨਰਾਜ ਛੰਦ ॥

NARAAJ STANZA

ਤਹਾ ਸੁ ਦੈਤ ਰਾਜਯੰ ॥

tahaa su dait raajayan |

ਸਜੇ ਸੋ ਸਰਬ ਸਾਜਯੰ ॥

saje so sarab saajayan |

Then the demon-king gathered all the war-paraphernalis.

ਤੁਰੰਗ ਆਪ ਬਾਹੀਯੰ ॥

turang aap baaheeyan |

ਬਧੰ ਸੁ ਮਾਤ ਚਾਹੀਯੰ ॥੨੦॥

badhan su maat chaaheeyan |20|

He drove his horse forward and wanted to kill the Mother (goddess).20.

ਤਬੈ ਦ੍ਰੁਗਾ ਬਕਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥

tabai drugaa bakaar kai |

ਕਮਾਣ ਬਾਣ ਧਾਰਿ ਕੈ ॥

kamaan baan dhaar kai |

Then the goddess Durga challenged him, taking up her bow and arrows

ਸੁ ਘਾਵ ਚਾਮਰੰ ਕੀਯੋ ॥

su ghaav chaamaran keeyo |

ਉਤਾਰ ਹਸਤਿ ਤੇ ਦੀਯੋ ॥੨੧॥

autaar hasat te deeyo |21|

She wounded (one of) the generals named Chamar and threw him down on the ground from his elephatnt.21

ਭੁਜੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਯਾਤ ਛੰਦ ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਤਬੈ ਬੀਰ ਕੋਪੰ ਬਿੜਾਲਾਛ ਨਾਮੰ ॥

tabai beer kopan birraalaachh naaman |

Then the hero named Biralachh was filled with ire.

ਸਜੇ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਦੇਹੰ ਚਲੋ ਜੁਧ ਧਾਮੰ ॥

saje sasatr dehan chalo judh dhaaman |

He bedecked himself with weapons and walked towards the battlefield.

ਸਿਰੰ ਸਿੰਘ ਕੇ ਆਨਿ ਘਾਯੰ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੰ ॥

siran singh ke aan ghaayan prahaaran |

He struck his weapon on the head of the lion and wounded him,

ਬਲੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਸੋ ਹਾਥ ਸੋ ਮਾਰਿ ਡਾਰੰ ॥੨੨॥

balee singh so haath so maar ddaaran |22|

But the brave lion killed him with his hands.22.

ਬਿੜਾਲਾਛ ਮਾਰੇ ਸੁ ਪਿੰਗਾਛ ਧਾਏ ॥

birraalaachh maare su pingaachh dhaae |

When Biralachh was killed, Pinagachh ran forward

ਦ੍ਰੁਗਾ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਬੋਲ ਬਾਕੇ ਸੁਨਾਏ ॥

drugaa saamuhe bol baake sunaae |

Going in front of Durga, he uttered some inronical words.

ਕਰੀ ਅਭ੍ਰਿ ਜ︀ਯੋ ਗਰਜ ਕੈ ਬਾਣ ਬਰਖੰ ॥

karee abhr jayo garaj kai baan barakhan |

Roaring like a cloud, he showered a volley of arrows

ਮਹਾ ਸੂਰ ਬੀਰੰ ਭਰੇ ਜੁਧ ਹਰਖੰ ॥੨੩॥

mahaa soor beeran bhare judh harakhan |23|

That great hero was filled with pleasure in the battlefield.23.

ਤਬੈ ਦੇਵੀਅੰ ਪਾਣਿ ਬਾਣੰ ਸੰਭਾਰੰ ॥

tabai deveean paan baanan sanbhaaran |

Then the goddess caught hold of her bow and arrows.

ਹਨਿਯੋ ਦੁਸਟ ਕੇ ਘਾਇ ਸੀਸੰ ਮਝਾਰੰ ॥

haniyo dusatt ke ghaae seesan majhaaran |

She wounded the tyrant on his head with her shaft

ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ਝੂਮਿ ਭੂਮੰ ਗਏ ਪ੍ਰਾਣ ਛੁਟੰ ॥

giriyo jhoom bhooman ge praan chhuttan |

Who swayed, fell down of the goround and breathed his last.

ਮਨੋ ਮੇਰ ਕੋ ਸਾਤਵੌ ਸ੍ਰਿੰਗ ਟੁਟੰ ॥੨੪॥

mano mer ko saatavau sring ttuttan |24|

It seemed that the seventh peak of Sumeru mountain had fallen down.24.

ਗਿਰੈ ਬੀਰ ਪਿੰਗਾਛ ਦੇਬੀ ਸੰਘਾਰੇ ॥

girai beer pingaachh debee sanghaare |

When the warriors like Pingachh fell in the field,

ਚਲੇ ਅਉਰੁ ਬੀਰੰ ਹਥਿਆਰੰ ਉਘਾਰੇ ॥

chale aaur beeran hathiaaran ughaare |

Other warriors holding their weapons marched forward.

ਤਬੈ ਰੋਸਿ ਦੇਬਿਯੰ ਸਰੋਘੰ ਚਲਾਏ ॥

tabai ros debiyan saroghan chalaae |

Then the goddess in great ire shot many arrows,

ਬਿਨਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਕੇ ਜੁਧ ਮਧੰ ਗਿਰਾਏ ॥੨੫॥

binaa praan ke judh madhan giraae |25|

Which laid to rest many warriors in the battlefield.25.

CHAUPAI

ਜੇ ਜੇ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਸਾਮੁਹੇ ਆਏ ॥

je je satru saamuhe aae |

ਸਬੈ ਦੇਵਤਾ ਮਾਰਿ ਗਿਰਾਏ ॥

sabai devataa maar giraae |

The enemies who came before the goddess, they were all killed by her.

ਸੈਨਾ ਸਕਲ ਜਬੈ ਹਨਿ ਡਾਰੀ ॥

sainaa sakal jabai han ddaaree |

ਆਸੁਰੇਸ ਕੋਪਾ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀ ॥੨੬॥

aasures kopaa ahankaaree |26|

When all the army was thus effaced, then the egoistic demon-king was filled with rage.26.

ਆਪ ਜੁਧ ਤਬ ਕੀਆ ਭਵਾਨੀ ॥

aap judh tab keea bhavaanee |

ਚੁਨਿ ਚੁਨਿ ਹਨੈ ਪਖਰੀਆ ਬਾਨੀ ॥

chun chun hanai pakhareea baanee |

Then the goddess Durga herself waged the war, and picked up and killed the warriors wearing armour.

ਕ੍ਰੋਧ ਜੁਆਲ ਮਸਤਕ ਤੇ ਬਿਗਸੀ ॥

krodh juaal masatak te bigasee |

ਤਾ ਤੇ ਆਪ ਕਾਲਿਕਾ ਨਿਕਸੀ ॥੨੭॥

taa te aap kaalikaa nikasee |27|

The flame of ire manifested itself from her forehead, which appeared in the form of goddess kalka.27.

Raag MaajhGuru Guru Arjan

ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

maajh mahalaa 5 |

Maajh, Fifth Mehl:

ਸਭ ਕਿਛੁ ਘਰ ਮਹਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਨਾਹੀ ॥

sabh kichh ghar meh baahar naahee |

Everything is within the home of the self; there is nothing beyond.

ਬਾਹਰਿ ਟੋਲੈ ਸੋ ਭਰਮਿ ਭੁਲਾਹੀ ॥

baahar ttolai so bharam bhulaahee |

One who searches outside is deluded by doubt.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਜਿਨੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੋ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਸੁਹੇਲਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

gur parasaadee jinee antar paaeaa so antar baahar suhelaa jeeo |1|

By Guru's Grace, one who has found the Lord within is happy, inwardly and outwardly. ||1||

ਝਿਮਿ ਝਿਮਿ ਵਰਸੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਧਾਰਾ ॥

jhim jhim varasai amrit dhaaraa |

Slowly, gently, drop by drop, the stream of nectar trickles down within.

ਮਨੁ ਪੀਵੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥

man peevai sun sabad beechaaraa |

The mind drinks it in, hearing and reflecting on the Word of the Shabad.

ਅਨਦ ਬਿਨੋਦ ਕਰੇ ਦਿਨ ਰਾਤੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਹਰਿ ਕੇਲਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

anad binod kare din raatee sadaa sadaa har kelaa jeeo |2|

It enjoys bliss and ecstasy day and night, and plays with the Lord forever and ever. ||2||

ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਕਾ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਮਿਲਿਆ ॥

janam janam kaa vichhurriaa miliaa |

I have now been united with the Lord after having been separated and cut off from Him for so many lifetimes;

ਸਾਧ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਤੇ ਸੂਕਾ ਹਰਿਆ ॥

saadh kripaa te sookaa hariaa |

by the Grace of the Holy Saint, the dried-up branches have blossomed forth again in their greenery.

ਸੁਮਤਿ ਪਾਏ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਏ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਏ ਮੇਲਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

sumat paae naam dhiaae guramukh hoe melaa jeeo |3|

I have obtained this sublime understanding, and I meditate on the Naam; as Gurmukh, I have met the Lord. ||3||

ਜਲ ਤਰੰਗੁ ਜਿਉ ਜਲਹਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥

jal tarang jiau jaleh samaaeaa |

As the waves of water merge again with the water,

ਤਿਉ ਜੋਤੀ ਸੰਗਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥

tiau jotee sang jot milaaeaa |

so does my light merge again into the Light.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਕਟੇ ਕਿਵਾੜਾ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਹੋਈਐ ਜਉਲਾ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੧੯॥੨੬॥

kahu naanak bhram katte kivaarraa bahurr na hoeeai jaulaa jeeo |4|19|26|

Says Nanak, the veil of illusion has been cut away, and I shall not go out wandering any more. ||4||19||26||

ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Maajh, Fifth Mehl:

ਤਿਸੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਤੂੰ ਸੁਣਿਆ ॥

tis kurabaanee jin toon suniaa |

I am a sacrifice to those who have heard of You.

ਤਿਸੁ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਸਨਾ ਭਣਿਆ ॥

tis balihaaree jin rasanaa bhaniaa |

I am a sacrifice to those whose tongues speak of You.

ਵਾਰਿ ਵਾਰਿ ਜਾਈ ਤਿਸੁ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਜੋ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਰਾਧੇ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

vaar vaar jaaee tis vittahu jo man tan tudh aaraadhe jeeo |1|

Again and again, I am a sacrifice to those who meditate on You with mind and body. ||1||

ਤਿਸੁ ਚਰਣ ਪਖਾਲੀ ਜੋ ਤੇਰੈ ਮਾਰਗਿ ਚਾਲੈ ॥

tis charan pakhaalee jo terai maarag chaalai |

I wash the feet of those who walk upon Your Path.

ਨੈਨ ਨਿਹਾਲੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਪੁਰਖ ਦਇਆਲੈ ॥

nain nihaalee tis purakh deaalai |

With my eyes, I long to behold those kind people.

ਮਨੁ ਦੇਵਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਸਾਜਨ ਜਿਨਿ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਲਾਧੇ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

man devaa tis apune saajan jin gur mil so prabh laadhe jeeo |2|

I offer my mind to those friends, who have met the Guru and found God. ||2||

ਸੇ ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਜਿਨਿ ਤੁਮ ਜਾਣੇ ॥

se vaddabhaagee jin tum jaane |

Very fortunate are those who know You.

ਸਭ ਕੈ ਮਧੇ ਅਲਿਪਤ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੇ ॥

sabh kai madhe alipat nirabaane |

In the midst of all, they remain detached and balanced in Nirvaanaa.

ਸਾਧ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਉਨਿ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤਰਿਆ ਸਗਲ ਦੂਤ ਉਨਿ ਸਾਧੇ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

saadh kai sang un bhaujal tariaa sagal doot un saadhe jeeo |3|

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, they cross over the terrifying world-ocean, and conquer all their evil passions. ||3||

ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰਿਆ ਮਨੁ ਮੇਰਾ ॥

tin kee saran pariaa man meraa |

My mind has entered their Sanctuary.

ਮਾਣੁ ਤਾਣੁ ਤਜਿ ਮੋਹੁ ਅੰਧੇਰਾ ॥

maan taan taj mohu andheraa |

I have renounced my pride in my own strength, and the darkness of emotional attachment.

ਨਾਮੁ ਦਾਨੁ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਤਿਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧੇ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੨੦॥੨੭॥

naam daan deejai naanak kau tis prabh agam agaadhe jeeo |4|20|27|

Please bless Nanak with the Gift of the Naam, the Name of the Inaccessible and Unfathomable God. ||4||20||27||

ਮਾਝ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Maajh, Fifth Mehl:

ਤੂੰ ਪੇਡੁ ਸਾਖ ਤੇਰੀ ਫੂਲੀ ॥

toon pedd saakh teree foolee |

You are the tree; Your branches have blossomed forth.

ਤੂੰ ਸੂਖਮੁ ਹੋਆ ਅਸਥੂਲੀ ॥

toon sookham hoaa asathoolee |

From the very small and subtle, You have become huge and manifest.

ਤੂੰ ਜਲਨਿਧਿ ਤੂੰ ਫੇਨੁ ਬੁਦਬੁਦਾ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਭਾਲੀਐ ਜੀਉ ॥੧॥

toon jalanidh toon fen budabudaa tudh bin avar na bhaaleeai jeeo |1|

You are the Ocean of Water, and You are the foam and the bubbles on its surface. I cannot see any other except You, Lord. ||1||

ਤੂੰ ਸੂਤੁ ਮਣੀਏ ਭੀ ਤੂੰਹੈ ॥

toon soot manee bhee toonhai |

You are the thread, and You are also the beads.

ਤੂੰ ਗੰਠੀ ਮੇਰੁ ਸਿਰਿ ਤੂੰਹੈ ॥

toon gantthee mer sir toonhai |

You are the knot, and You are the primary bead of the maalaa.

ਆਦਿ ਮਧਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਈ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ਦਿਖਾਲੀਐ ਜੀਉ ॥੨॥

aad madh ant prabh soee avar na koe dikhaaleeai jeeo |2|

In the beginning, in the middle and in the end, there is God. I cannot see any other except You, Lord. ||2||

ਤੂੰ ਨਿਰਗੁਣੁ ਸਰਗੁਣੁ ਸੁਖਦਾਤਾ ॥

toon niragun saragun sukhadaataa |

You transcend all qualities, and You possess the supreme qualities. You are the Giver of peace.

ਤੂੰ ਨਿਰਬਾਣੁ ਰਸੀਆ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥

toon nirabaan raseea rang raataa |

You are detached in Nirvaanaa, and You are the Enjoyer, imbued with love.

ਅਪਣੇ ਕਰਤਬ ਆਪੇ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਆਪੇ ਤੁਧੁ ਸਮਾਲੀਐ ਜੀਉ ॥੩॥

apane karatab aape jaaneh aape tudh samaaleeai jeeo |3|

You Yourself know Your Own Ways; You dwell upon Yourself. ||3||

ਤੂੰ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਫੁਨਿ ਆਪੇ ॥

toon tthaakur sevak fun aape |

You are the Master, and then again, You are the servant.

ਤੂੰ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਆਪੇ ॥

toon gupat paragatt prabh aape |

O God, You Yourself are the Manifest and the Unmanifest.

ਨਾਨਕ ਦਾਸੁ ਸਦਾ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਇਕ ਭੋਰੀ ਨਦਰਿ ਨਿਹਾਲੀਐ ਜੀਉ ॥੪॥੨੧॥੨੮॥

naanak daas sadaa gun gaavai ik bhoree nadar nihaaleeai jeeo |4|21|28|

Slave Nanak sings Your Glorious Praises forever. Please, just for a moment, bless him with Your Glance of Grace. ||4||21||28||
