Maaroo, Fifth Mehl:
ਵੈਦੋ ਨ ਵਾਈ ਭੈਣੋ ਨ ਭਾਈ ਏਕੋ ਸਹਾਈ ਰਾਮੁ ਹੇ ॥੧॥
vaido na vaaee bhaino na bhaaee eko sahaaee raam he |1|
The One Lord alone is our help and support; neither physician nor friend, nor sister nor brother can be this. ||1||
ਕੀਤਾ ਜਿਸੋ ਹੋਵੈ ਪਾਪਾਂ ਮਲੋ ਧੋਵੈ ਸੋ ਸਿਮਰਹੁ ਪਰਧਾਨੁ ਹੇ ॥੨॥
keetaa jiso hovai paapaan malo dhovai so simarahu paradhaan he |2|
His actions alone come to pass; He washes off the filth of sins. Meditate in remembrance on that Supreme Lord. ||2||
ਘਟਿ ਘਟੇ ਵਾਸੀ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ਅਸਥਿਰੁ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਥਾਨੁ ਹੇ ॥੩॥
ghatt ghatte vaasee sarab nivaasee asathir jaa kaa thaan he |3|
He abides in each and every heart, and dwells in all; His seat and place are eternal. ||3||
ਆਵੈ ਨ ਜਾਵੈ ਸੰਗੇ ਸਮਾਵੈ ਪੂਰਨ ਜਾ ਕਾ ਕਾਮੁ ਹੇ ॥੪॥
aavai na jaavai sange samaavai pooran jaa kaa kaam he |4|
He does not come or go, and He is always with us. His actions are perfect. ||4||
ਭਗਤ ਜਨਾ ਕਾ ਰਾਖਣਹਾਰਾ ॥
bhagat janaa kaa raakhanahaaraa |
He is the Savior and the Protector of His devotees.
ਸੰਤ ਜੀਵਹਿ ਜਪਿ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥
sant jeeveh jap praan adhaaraa |
The Saints live by meditating on God, the support of the breath of life.
ਕਰਨ ਕਾਰਨ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਸੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ਹੇ ॥੫॥੨॥੩੨॥
karan kaaran samarath suaamee naanak tis kurabaan he |5|2|32|
The Almighty Lord and Master is the Cause of causes; Nanak is a sacrifice to Him. ||5||2||32||

ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ॥
har ko naam sadaa sukhadaaee |
The Name of the Lord is forever the Giver of peace.
ਜਾ ਕਉ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਅਜਾਮਲੁ ਉਧਰਿਓ ਗਨਿਕਾ ਹੂ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
jaa kau simar ajaamal udhario ganikaa hoo gat paaee |1| rahaau |
Meditating in remembrance on it, Ajaamal was saved, and Ganika the prostitute was emancipated. ||1||Pause||
ਪੰਚਾਲੀ ਕਉ ਰਾਜ ਸਭਾ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਸੁਧਿ ਆਈ ॥
panchaalee kau raaj sabhaa meh raam naam sudh aaee |
Dropadi the princess of Panchaala remembered the Lord's Name in the royal court.
ਤਾ ਕੋ ਦੂਖੁ ਹਰਿਓ ਕਰੁਣਾ ਮੈ ਅਪਨੀ ਪੈਜ ਬਢਾਈ ॥੧॥
taa ko dookh hario karunaa mai apanee paij badtaaee |1|
The Lord, the embodiment of mercy, removed her suffering; thus His own glory was increased. ||1||
ਜਿਹ ਨਰ ਜਸੁ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਨਿਧਿ ਗਾਇਓ ਤਾ ਕਉ ਭਇਓ ਸਹਾਈ ॥
jih nar jas kirapaa nidh gaaeo taa kau bheo sahaaee |
That man, who sings the Praise of the Lord, the treasure of mercy, has the help and support of the Lord.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਮੈ ਇਹੀ ਭਰੋਸੈ ਗਹੀ ਆਨਿ ਸਰਨਾਈ ॥੨॥੧॥
kahu naanak mai ihee bharosai gahee aan saranaaee |2|1|
Says Nanak, I have come to rely on this. I seek the Sanctuary of the Lord. ||2||1||

ਅਬ ਮੈ ਕਹਾ ਕਰਉ ਰੀ ਮਾਈ ॥

What should I do now, O mother?
ਸਗਲ ਜਨਮੁ ਬਿਖਿਅਨ ਸਿਉ ਖੋਇਆ ਸਿਮਰਿਓ ਨਾਹਿ ਕਨੑਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sagal janam bikhian siau khoeaa simario naeh kanaaee |1| rahaau |
I have wasted my whole life in sin and corruption; I never remembered the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਕਾਲ ਫਾਸ ਜਬ ਗਰ ਮਹਿ ਮੇਲੀ ਤਿਹ ਸੁਧਿ ਸਭ ਬਿਸਰਾਈ ॥
kaal faas jab gar meh melee tih sudh sabh bisaraaee |
When Death places the noose around my neck, then I lose all my senses.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨੁ ਯਾ ਸੰਕਟ ਮਹਿ ਕੋ ਅਬ ਹੋਤ ਸਹਾਈ ॥੧॥
raam naam bin yaa sankatt meh ko ab hot sahaaee |1|
Now, in this disaster, other than the Name of the Lord, who will be my help and support? ||1||
ਜੋ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਅਪਨੀ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨੀ ਛਿਨ ਮਹਿ ਭਈ ਪਰਾਈ ॥
jo sanpat apanee kar maanee chhin meh bhee paraaee |
That wealth, which he believes to be his own, in an instant, belongs to another.
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਯਹ ਸੋਚ ਰਹੀ ਮਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਜਸੁ ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਗਾਈ ॥੨॥੨॥
kahu naanak yeh soch rahee man har jas kabahoo na gaaee |2|2|
Says Nanak, this still really bothers my mind - I never sang the Praises of the Lord. ||2||2||

ਮਾਈ ਮੈ ਮਨ ਕੋ ਮਾਨੁ ਨ ਤਿਆਗਿਓ ॥
maaee mai man ko maan na tiaagio |
O my mother, I have not renounced the pride of my mind.
ਮਾਇਆ ਕੇ ਮਦਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਿਰਾਇਓ ਰਾਮ ਭਜਨਿ ਨਹੀ ਲਾਗਿਓ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
maaeaa ke mad janam siraaeo raam bhajan nahee laagio |1| rahaau |
I have wasted my life intoxicated with Maya; I have not focused myself in meditation on the Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਜਮ ਕੋ ਡੰਡੁ ਪਰਿਓ ਸਿਰ ਊਪਰਿ ਤਬ ਸੋਵਤ ਤੈ ਜਾਗਿਓ ॥
jam ko ddandd pario sir aoopar tab sovat tai jaagio |
When Death's club falls on my head, then I will be wakened from my sleep.
ਕਹਾ ਹੋਤ ਅਬ ਕੈ ਪਛੁਤਾਏ ਛੂਟਤ ਨਾਹਿਨ ਭਾਗਿਓ ॥੧॥
kahaa hot ab kai pachhutaae chhoottat naahin bhaagio |1|
But what good will it do to repent at that time? I cannot escape by running away. ||1||
ਇਹ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਉਪਜੀ ਘਟ ਮਹਿ ਜਬ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਨਨ ਅਨੁਰਾਗਿਓ ॥
eih chintaa upajee ghatt meh jab gur charanan anuraagio |
When this anxiety arises in the heart, then, one comes to love the Guru's feet.
ਸੁਫਲੁ ਜਨਮੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਬ ਹੂਆ ਜਉ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਜਸ ਮਹਿ ਪਾਗਿਓ ॥੨॥੩॥
sufal janam naanak tab hooaa jau prabh jas meh paagio |2|3|
My life becomes fruitful, O Nanak, only when I am absorbed in the Praises of God. ||2||3||

ਬੇਦ ਪੁਰਾਣ ਕਥੇ ਸੁਣੇ ਹਾਰੇ ਮੁਨੀ ਅਨੇਕਾ ॥
bed puraan kathe sune haare munee anekaa |
Reciting and listening to the Vedas and the Puraanas, countless wise men have grown weary.
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਬਹੁ ਘਣਾ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਥਾਕੇ ਭੇਖਾ ॥
atthasatth teerath bahu ghanaa bhram thaake bhekhaa |
So many in their various religious robes have grown weary, wandering to the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage.
ਸਾਚੋ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੋ ਮਨਿ ਮਾਨੈ ਏਕਾ ॥੧॥
saacho saahib niramalo man maanai ekaa |1|
The True Lord and Master is immaculate and pure. The mind is satisfied only by the One Lord. ||1||
ਤੂ ਅਜਰਾਵਰੁ ਅਮਰੁ ਤੂ ਸਭ ਚਾਲਣਹਾਰੀ ॥
too ajaraavar amar too sabh chaalanahaaree |
You are eternal; You do not grow old. All others pass away.
ਨਾਮੁ ਰਸਾਇਣੁ ਭਾਇ ਲੈ ਪਰਹਰਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਭਾਰੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
naam rasaaein bhaae lai parahar dukh bhaaree |1| rahaau |
One who lovingly focuses on the Naam, the source of nectar - his pains are taken away. ||1||Pause||
ਹਰਿ ਪੜੀਐ ਹਰਿ ਬੁਝੀਐ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਾਮਿ ਉਧਾਰਾ ॥
har parreeai har bujheeai guramatee naam udhaaraa |
Study the Lord's Name, and understand the Lord's Name; follow the Guru's Teachings, and through the Naam, you shall be saved.
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਪੂਰੀ ਮਤਿ ਹੈ ਪੂਰੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
gur poorai pooree mat hai poorai sabad beechaaraa |
Perfect are the Teachings of the Perfect Guru; contemplate the Perfect Word of the Shabad.
ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਕਿਲਵਿਖ ਕਾਟਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੨॥
atthasatth teerath har naam hai kilavikh kaattanahaaraa |2|
The Lord's Name is the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage, and the Eradicator of sins. ||2||
ਜਲੁ ਬਿਲੋਵੈ ਜਲੁ ਮਥੈ ਤਤੁ ਲੋੜੈ ਅੰਧੁ ਅਗਿਆਨਾ ॥
jal bilovai jal mathai tat lorrai andh agiaanaa |
The blind ignorant mortal stirs the water and churns the water, wishing to obtain butter.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਦਧਿ ਮਥੀਐ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨਾ ॥
guramatee dadh matheeai amrit paaeeai naam nidhaanaa |
Following the Guru's Teachings, one churns the cream, and the treasure of the Ambrosial Naam is obtained.
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਤਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਪਸੂ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਮਾਨਾ ॥੩॥
manamukh tat na jaananee pasoo maeh samaanaa |3|
The self-willed manmukh is a beast; he does not know the essence of reality that is contained within himself. ||3||
ਹਉਮੈ ਮੇਰਾ ਮਰੀ ਮਰੁ ਮਰਿ ਜੰਮੈ ਵਾਰੋ ਵਾਰ ॥
haumai meraa maree mar mar jamai vaaro vaar |
Dying in egotism and self-conceit, one dies, and dies again, only to be reincarnated over and over again.
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦੇ ਜੇ ਮਰੈ ਫਿਰਿ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਦੂਜੀ ਵਾਰ ॥
gur kai sabade je marai fir marai na doojee vaar |
But when he dies in the Word of the Guru's Shabad, then he does not die, ever again.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਜਗਜੀਵਨੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸੈ ਸਭਿ ਕੁਲ ਉਧਾਰਣਹਾਰ ॥੪॥
guramatee jagajeevan man vasai sabh kul udhaaranahaar |4|
When he follows the Guru's Teachings, and enshrines the Lord, the Life of the World, within his mind, he redeems all his generations. ||4||
ਸਚਾ ਵਖਰੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਸਚਾ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥
sachaa vakhar naam hai sachaa vaapaaraa |
The Naam, the Name of the Lord, is the true object, the true commodity.
ਲਾਹਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸੰਸਾਰਿ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥
laahaa naam sansaar hai guramatee veechaaraa |
The Naam is the only true profit in this world. Follow the Guru's Teachings, and contemplate it.
ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਣੀ ਨਿਤ ਤੋਟਾ ਸੈਸਾਰਾ ॥੫॥
doojai bhaae kaar kamaavanee nit tottaa saisaaraa |5|
To work in the love of duality, brings constant loss in this world. ||5||
ਸਾਚੀ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਥਾਨੁ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੇ ਘਰ ਬਾਰਾ ॥
saachee sangat thaan sach sache ghar baaraa |
True is one's association, true is one's place,
ਸਚਾ ਭੋਜਨੁ ਭਾਉ ਸਚੁ ਸਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰਾ ॥
sachaa bhojan bhaau sach sach naam adhaaraa |
And true is one's hearth and home, when one has the support of the Naam.
ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ਸੰਤੋਖਿਆ ਸਚਾ ਸਬਦੁ ਵੀਚਾਰਾ ॥੬॥
sachee baanee santokhiaa sachaa sabad veechaaraa |6|
Contemplating the True Word of the Guru's Bani, and the True Word of the Shabad, one becomes content. ||6||
ਰਸ ਭੋਗਣ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੀਆ ਦੁਖ ਸੁਖ ਸੰਘਾਰਾ ॥
ras bhogan paatisaaheea dukh sukh sanghaaraa |
Enjoying princely pleasures, one shall be destroyed in pain and pleasure.
ਮੋਟਾ ਨਾਉ ਧਰਾਈਐ ਗਲਿ ਅਉਗਣ ਭਾਰਾ ॥
mottaa naau dharaaeeai gal aaugan bhaaraa |
Adopting a name of greatness, one strings heavy sins around his neck.
ਮਾਣਸ ਦਾਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਤੂ ਦਾਤਾ ਸਾਰਾ ॥੭॥
maanas daat na hovee too daataa saaraa |7|
Mankind cannot give gifts; You alone are the Giver of everything. ||7||
ਅਗਮ ਅਗੋਚਰੁ ਤੂ ਧਣੀ ਅਵਿਗਤੁ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
agam agochar too dhanee avigat apaaraa |
You are inaccessible and unfathomable; O Lord, You are imperishable and infinite.
ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਦਰੁ ਜੋਈਐ ਮੁਕਤੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥
gurasabadee dar joeeai mukate bhanddaaraa |
Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, seeking at the Lord's Door, one finds the treasure of liberation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮੇਲੁ ਨ ਚੂਕਈ ਸਾਚੇ ਵਾਪਾਰਾ ॥੮॥੧॥
naanak mel na chookee saache vaapaaraa |8|1|
O Nanak, this union is not broken, if one deals in the merchandise of Truth. ||8||1||

ਚਲੈ ਨੀਚ ਨਾਰੀਨ ਕੈ ਭਾਤਿ ਐਸੀ ॥
chalai neech naareen kai bhaat aisee |
ਮਨੋ ਸੀਲਵੰਤੀ ਸੁ ਨਾਰੀ ਨ ਵੈਸੀ ॥੮॥
mano seelavantee su naaree na vaisee |8|

ਤਾਹਿ ਬਿਸਿਖ ਲਾਗੇ ਨਹੀ ਸੀਸ ਰਹੈ ਨਿਹੁਰਾਇ ॥੯॥
taeh bisikh laage nahee sees rahai nihuraae |9|
ਬਿਸਿਖ ਬਗਾਵੈ ਕੋਪ ਕਰਿ ਤਾਹਿ ਨ ਲਾਗੇ ਘਾਇ ॥
bisikh bagaavai kop kar taeh na laage ghaae |
ਖਿਸਲਿ ਕਰਾਹਾ ਤੇ ਪਰੈ ਜਰੇ ਤੇਲ ਮੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੧੦॥
khisal karaahaa te parai jare tel mai jaae |10|
ਭੁਜੰਗ ਛੰਦ ॥

ਪਰੇ ਤੇਲ ਮੈ ਭੂਜਿ ਕੈ ਭਾਤਿ ਐਸੀ ॥
pare tel mai bhooj kai bhaat aisee |
ਬਰੇ ਜ︀ਯੋਂ ਪਕਾਵੈ ਮਹਾ ਨਾਰਿ ਜੈਸੀ ॥
bare jayon pakaavai mahaa naar jaisee |
ਕੋਊ ਬਾਨ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਨਹੀ ਬੀਰ ਮਾਰੈ ॥
koaoo baan taa ko nahee beer maarai |
ਮਰੇ ਲਾਜ ਤੇ ਰਾਜ ਧਾਮੈ ਸਿਧਾਰੈ ॥੧੧॥
mare laaj te raaj dhaamai sidhaarai |11|

ਅਧਿਕ ਲਜਤ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਭਏ ਤਾ ਕੌ ਬਾਨ ਚਲਾਇ ॥
adhik lajat bhoopat bhe taa kau baan chalaae |
The princes were feeling ashamed,
ਚੋਟ ਨ ਕਾਹੂੰ ਕੀ ਲਗੀ ਸੀਸ ਰਹੇ ਨਿਹੁਰਾਇ ॥੧੨॥
chott na kaahoon kee lagee sees rahe nihuraae |12|
As their arrows were going astray, and they felt remorseful.(12)
ਪਰੀ ਨ ਪ︀ਯਾਰੀ ਹਾਥ ਮੈ ਮਛਹਿ ਲਗਿਯੋ ਨ ਬਾਨ ॥
paree na payaaree haath mai machheh lagiyo na baan |
Neither they could hit the fish nor they achieved the beloved.
ਲਜਤਨ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਅਪਨੇ ਗਏ ਬਨ ਕੋ ਕਿਯੋ ਪਯਾਨ ॥੧੩॥
lajatan grih apane ge ban ko kiyo payaan |13|
Drenched in humiliation, some went to their homes and some to thejungle.(13)

The word went round and the news reached to the Pandavs.
ਜਹਾ ਦੁਖਿਤ ਵੈ ਬਨਹਿ ਬਿਹਾਰੈ ॥
jahaa dukhit vai baneh bihaarai |
ਕੰਦ ਮੂਲ ਭਛੈ ਮ੍ਰਿਗ ਮਾਰੈ ॥੧੪॥
kand mool bhachhai mrig maarai |14|
Distrustfully, they were already roaming around in the jungles,And were living by hunting deer and eating tree leaves and roots.(14)

Kunti’s son (Arjan) announced that,
ਮਤਸ ਦੇਸ ਮੈ ਬਨ ਘਨੋ ਤਹੀ ਬਿਹਾਰੈ ਜਾਇ ॥੧੫॥
matas des mai ban ghano tahee bihaarai jaae |15|
He was proceeding to the country of Machh where there were bettertrees.(15)

Heeding to his suggestion, they all marched towards the country ofMachh

Where Daropdee had arranged swayyamber and cauldron was placed,
ਤਹੀ ਜਾਇ ਠਾਢੋ ਭਯੋ ਧਨੀ ਧਨੰਜੈ ਰਾਇ ॥੧੭॥
tahee jaae tthaadto bhayo dhanee dhananjai raae |17|
Arjan went and stood at the place.(17)
ਦੋਊ ਪਾਵ ਕਰਾਹ ਪਰ ਰਾਖਤ ਭਯੋ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
doaoo paav karaah par raakhat bhayo banaae |
He put both his feet at the cauldron,
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਮਛ ਕੀ ਛਾਹ ਕਹ ਹੇਰਿਯੋ ਧਨੁਖ ਚੜਾਇ ॥੧੮॥
bahur machh kee chhaah keh heriyo dhanukh charraae |18|
And, aiming at the fish, place an arrow in the bow.(18)

ਕੋਪਿ ਕੁਵੰਡ ਚੜਾਇ ਕੈ ਪਾਰਥ ਮਛ ਕੌ ਦਛਿਨ ਪਛ ਨਿਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
kop kuvandd charraae kai paarath machh kau dachhin pachh nihaariyo |
In rage, he looked at the right eye of the fish.
ਕਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਤੰਚਹਿ ਆਨ ਮਹਾ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨ ਹਕਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
kaan pramaan pratancheh aan mahaa kar kai abhimaan hakaariyo |
He pulled the bow up to his ears and, with pride, he roared,
ਖੰਡਨ ਕੈ ਰਨ ਮੰਡਨ ਜੇ ਬਲਵੰਡਨ ਕੋ ਸਭ ਪੌਰਖ ਹਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
khanddan kai ran manddan je balavanddan ko sabh pauarakh haariyo |
‘You, the brave Rajas from all the regions, have failed.’
ਯੌ ਕਹਿ ਬਾਨ ਤਜ︀ਯੋ ਤਜਿ ਕਾਨਿ ਘਨੀ ਰਿਸਿ ਠਾਨਿ ਤਕਿਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੯॥
yau keh baan tajayo taj kaan ghanee ris tthaan takiyo tih maariyo |19|
Challenging thus, he shot an arrow right in the eye.(19)

ਪਾਰਥ ਧਨੁ ਕਰਖਤ ਭਏ ਬਰਖੇ ਫੂਲ ਅਨੇਕ ॥
paarath dhan karakhat bhe barakhe fool anek |
When he had stretched the bow, all the gods were delighted and theyshowered the flowers.
ਦੇਵ ਸਭੈ ਹਰਖਤ ਭਏ ਹਰਖਿਯੋ ਹਠੀ ਨ ਏਕ ॥੨੦॥
dev sabhai harakhat bhe harakhiyo hatthee na ek |20|
But stubborn competitors were not pleased.(20)

ਯਹ ਗਤਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਬੀਰ ਰਿਸ ਭਰੇ ॥

ਲੈ ਲੈ ਹਥਿ ਹਥਿਯਾਰਨ ਪਰੇ ॥
lai lai hath hathiyaaran pare |
Seeing this phenomenon, the contenders flew into the rage and, takingtheir weapons came forward.
ਯਾ ਜੁਗਿਯਹਿ ਜਮ ਲੋਕ ਪਠੈਹੈਂ ॥
yaa jugiyeh jam lok patthaihain |
ਐਂਚਿ ਦ੍ਰੋਪਦੀ ਨਿਜੁ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੈਹੈਂ ॥੨੧॥
ainch dropadee nij triy kaihain |21|
‘We will send this sage-type into death knell and take away Daropdeeas the wife.’(21)

ਤਬ ਪਾਰਥ ਕੇਤੇ ਕਟਕ ਕਾਟੇ ਕੋਪ ਬਢਾਇ ॥
tab paarath kete kattak kaatte kop badtaae |
Then Parth (Arjan) was outraged, as well, and decimated a few.
ਕੇਤੇ ਕਟਿ ਡਾਰੇ ਕਟਿਨ ਕਾਟੇ ਕਰੀ ਬਨਾਇ ॥੨੨॥
kete katt ddaare kattin kaatte karee banaae |22|
He annihilated many and cut off a number of elephants.(22)

Repulsing those obstinate ones, he picked up the woman,
ਡਾਰਿ ਕਾਪਿ ਧ੍ਵਜ ਰਥ ਲਈ ਬਹੁ ਬੀਰਨ ਕੋ ਘਾਇ ॥੨੪॥
ddaar kaap dhvaj rath lee bahu beeran ko ghaae |24|
Killing many more, he put her in the chariot.(24)

Many had their arms and feet cut and the proud ones lost their royalcanopies,.
ਕਿਤੇ ਪੇਟ ਫਾਟੇ ਕਿਤੇ ਠੌਰ ਮਾਰੇ ॥
kite pett faatte kite tthauar maare |
ਗਿਰੇ ਭਾਤਿ ਐਸੀ ਸੁ ਮਾਨੋ ਮੁਨਾਰੇ ॥੨੫॥
gire bhaat aisee su maano munaare |25|
Some had their stomachs gashed and fell like minarets.(25)
