ਕਤ ਕਉ ਡਹਕਾਵਹੁ ਲੋਗਾ ਮੋਹਨ ਦੀਨ ਕਿਰਪਾਈ ॥੧॥
kat kau ddahakaavahu logaa mohan deen kirapaaee |1|
Why do you try to deceive others, O people of the world? The Fascinating Lord is Merciful to the meek. ||1||
ਐਸੀ ਜਾਨਿ ਪਾਈ ॥

This is what I have come to know.
ਸਰਣਿ ਸੂਰੋ ਗੁਰ ਦਾਤਾ ਰਾਖੈ ਆਪਿ ਵਡਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
saran sooro gur daataa raakhai aap vaddaaee |1| rahaau |
The brave and heroic Guru, the Generous Giver, gives Sanctuary and preserves our honor. ||1||Pause||
ਭਗਤਾ ਕਾ ਆਗਿਆਕਾਰੀ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖਦਾਈ ॥੨॥
bhagataa kaa aagiaakaaree sadaa sadaa sukhadaaee |2|
He submits to the Will of His devotees; He is forever and ever the Giver of peace. ||2||
ਅਪਨੇ ਕਉ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੀਅਹੁ ਇਕੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਈ ॥੩॥
apane kau kirapaa kareeahu ik naam dhiaaee |3|
Please bless me with Your Mercy, that I may meditate on Your Name alone. ||3||
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਦੀਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਾਗੈ ਦੁਤੀਆ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਈ ॥੪॥੪॥੨੦॥
naanak deen naam maagai duteea bharam chukaaee |4|4|20|
Nanak, the meek and humble, begs for the Naam, the Name of the Lord; it eradicates duality and doubt. ||4||4||20||

ਮੇਰਾ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਅਤਿ ਭਾਰਾ ॥

My Lord and Master is utterly powerful.
ਮੋਹਿ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਬੇਚਾਰਾ ॥੧॥
mohi sevak bechaaraa |1|
I am just His poor servant. ||1||
ਮੋਹਨੁ ਲਾਲੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਮਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨਾ ॥
mohan laal meraa preetam man praanaa |
My Enticing Beloved is very dear to my mind and my breath of life.
ਮੋ ਕਉ ਦੇਹੁ ਦਾਨਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
mo kau dehu daanaa |1| rahaau |
He blesses me with His gift. ||1||Pause||
ਸਗਲੇ ਮੈ ਦੇਖੇ ਜੋਈ ॥
sagale mai dekhe joee |
I have seen and tested all.
ਬੀਜਉ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੨॥
beejau avar na koee |2|
There is none other than Him. ||2||
ਜੀਅਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਲਿ ਸਮਾਹੈ ॥
jeean pratipaal samaahai |
He sustains and nurtures all beings.
ਹੈ ਹੋਸੀ ਆਹੇ ॥੩॥
hai hosee aahe |3|
He was, and shall always be. ||3||
ਦਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਕੀਜੈ ਦੇਵਾ ॥
deaa mohi keejai devaa |
Please bless me with Your Mercy, O Divine Lord,
ਨਾਨਕ ਲਾਗੋ ਸੇਵਾ ॥੪॥੫॥੨੧॥

and link Nanak to Your service. ||4||5||21||

ਪਤਿਤ ਉਧਾਰਨ ਤਾਰਨ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਬਲੇ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ॥
patit udhaaran taaran bal bal bale bal jaaeeai |
The Redeemer of sinners, who carries us across; I am a sacrifice, a sacrifice, a sacrifice, a sacrifice to Him.
ਐਸਾ ਕੋਈ ਭੇਟੈ ਸੰਤੁ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਹਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਈਐ ॥੧॥
aisaa koee bhettai sant jit har hare har dhiaaeeai |1|
If only I could meet with such a Saint, who would inspire me to meditate on the Lord, Har, Har, Har. ||1||
ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਨਤ ਕਹੀਅਤ ਦਾਸੁ ਤੁਮਾਰਾ ॥
mo kau koe na jaanat kaheeat daas tumaaraa |
No one knows me; I am called Your slave.
ਏਹਾ ਓਟ ਆਧਾਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

This is my support and sustenance. ||1||Pause||
ਸਰਬ ਧਾਰਨ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰਨ ਇਕ ਬਿਨਉ ਦੀਨਾ ॥
sarab dhaaran pratipaaran ik binau deenaa |
You support and cherish all; I am meek and humble - this is my only prayer.
ਤੁਮਰੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਜਾਨਹੁ ਤੁਮ ਜਲ ਹਮ ਮੀਨਾ ॥੨॥
tumaree bidh tum hee jaanahu tum jal ham meenaa |2|
You alone know Your Way; You are the water, and I am the fish. ||2||
ਪੂਰਨ ਬਿਸਥੀਰਨ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਆਹਿ ਆਇਓ ਪਾਛੈ ॥
pooran bisatheeran suaamee aaeh aaeo paachhai |
O Perfect and Expansive Lord and Master, I follow You in love.
ਸਗਲੋ ਭੂ ਮੰਡਲ ਖੰਡਲ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੁਮ ਹੀ ਆਛੈ ॥੩॥
sagalo bhoo manddal khanddal prabh tum hee aachhai |3|
O God, You are pervading all the worlds, solar systems and galaxies. ||3||
ਅਟਲ ਅਖਇਓ ਦੇਵਾ ਮੋਹਨ ਅਲਖ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥
attal akheo devaa mohan alakh apaaraa |
You are eternal and unchanging, imperishable, invisible and infinite, O divine fascinating Lord.
ਦਾਨੁ ਪਾਵਉ ਸੰਤਾ ਸੰਗੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਰੇਨੁ ਦਾਸਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੬॥੨੨॥
daan paavau santaa sang naanak ren daasaaraa |4|6|22|
Please bless Nanak with the gift of the Society of the Saints, and the dust of the feet of Your slaves. ||4||6||22||

ਦੇਵ ਦੇਖਿ ਕਾਜੀ ਨਿਰਖਿ ਸੁੰਦਰਿ ਅਧਿਕ ਡਰਾਇ ॥

She was duly afraid of Quazi and the demons,
ਨਾਕ ਚੜਾਏ ਰਤਿ ਕਰੈ ਤਾ ਪੈ ਕਛੁ ਨ ਬਸਾਇ ॥੧੧॥
naak charraae rat karai taa pai kachh na basaae |11|
Being helpless she would make love disdainfully.(11)

ਤਬ ਤਿਨ ਏਕ ਉਪਾਇ ਬਿਚਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
tab tin ek upaae bichaariyo |
ਕਰ ਮੈ ਏਕ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਲਿਖਿ ਡਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
kar mai ek patr likh ddaariyo |
She hit upon a plan and, she, herself, wrote a letter.
ਕਾਜੀ ਸਾਥ ਬਾਤ ਯੌ ਕਹੀ ॥
kaajee saath baat yau kahee |
ਮੇਰੇ ਹੌਸ ਚਿਤ ਇਕ ਰਹੀ ॥੧੨॥
mere hauas chit ik rahee |12|
Then she told Quazi that she had one earnest desire in her mind.(12)

ਅਬ ਲੌ ਸਦਨ ਦਿਲੀਸ ਕੇ ਦ੍ਰਿਗਨ ਬਿਲੋਕੇ ਨਾਹਿ ॥
ab lau sadan dilees ke drigan biloke naeh |
‘I have not seen the house ofthe Emperor of Delhi.
ਯਹੈ ਹੌਸ ਮਨ ਮੈ ਚੁਭੀ ਸੁਨੁ ਕਾਜਿਨ ਕੇ ਨਾਹਿ ॥੧੩॥
yahai hauas man mai chubhee sun kaajin ke naeh |13|
‘It is my greatest aspiration that I may go there.’(13)
ਦੇਵ ਸਾਥ ਕਾਜੀ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਯਾ ਕੋ ਭਵਨ ਦਿਖਾਇ ॥
dev saath kaajee kahiyo yaa ko bhavan dikhaae |
Quazi ordered the demon, ‘Take her there to show her the palace,
ਬਹੁਰੋ ਖਾਟ ਉਠਾਇ ਕੈ ਦੀਜਹੁ ਹ︀ਯਾਂ ਪਹੁਚਾਇ ॥੧੪॥
bahuro khaatt utthaae kai deejahu hayaan pahuchaae |14|
‘And after that pick up her bed and bring her back here.’(14)

ਤਾ ਕੌ ਦੇਵ ਤਹਾ ਲੈ ਗਯੋ ॥
taa kau dev tahaa lai gayo |
ਸਭ ਹੀ ਧਾਮ ਦਿਖਾਵਤ ਭਯੋ ॥
sabh hee dhaam dikhaavat bhayo |
The demon took her there and showed her all the mansions.
ਸਾਹ ਸਾਹ ਕੋ ਪੂਤ ਦਿਖਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
saah saah ko poot dikhaariyo |
ਹਰ ਅਰਿ ਸਰ ਤਾ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਕੌ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੧੫॥
har ar sar taa triy kau maariyo |15|
He exhibited her the King and the King’s son, by whose sight she felther heart pierced by the Cupid’s arrow.(15)
ਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਦੇਵ ਕੋ ਹੇਰਤ ਭਈ ॥
chitr dev ko herat bhee |
ਪਤਿਯਾ ਡਾਰਿ ਹਾਥ ਤੇ ਦਈ ॥
patiyaa ddaar haath te dee |
As her mind was lost in the thought of the Cupid, the letter slippeddown her hand.
ਆਪੁ ਬਹੁਰਿ ਕਾਜੀ ਕੈ ਆਈ ॥
aap bahur kaajee kai aaee |
ਉਤਿ ਪਤਿਯਾ ਤਿਨ ਛੋਰਿ ਬਚਾਈ ॥੧੬॥
aut patiyaa tin chhor bachaaee |16|
She, then, returned to Quazi and the letter was left there.(16)

ਫਿਰੰਗ ਰਾਵ ਕੀ ਮੈ ਸੁਤਾ ਲ︀ਯਾਵਤ ਦੇਵ ਉਠਾਇ ॥
firang raav kee mai sutaa layaavat dev utthaae |
‘I am the daughter of Farangh Shah and the demon carries me away(to Quazi).
ਮੋ ਸੋ ਕਾਜੀ ਮਾਨਿ ਰਤਿ ਦੇਹ ਤਹਾ ਪਹੁਚਾਇ ॥੧੭॥
mo so kaajee maan rat deh tahaa pahuchaae |17|
‘When Quazi had made love to me, he sends me back.(l7)
ਮੈ ਤੁਮ ਪਰ ਅਟਕਤਿ ਭਈ ਤਾ ਤੇ ਲਿਖਿਯੋ ਬਨਾਇ ॥
mai tum par attakat bhee taa te likhiyo banaae |
‘I have fallen in love with you, and that is why I am writing this letter.
ਨਿਜੁ ਨਾਰੀ ਮੁਹਿ ਕੀਜੀਯੈ ਦੇਵ ਕਾਜਿਯਹਿ ਘਾਇ ॥੧੮॥
nij naaree muhi keejeeyai dev kaajiyeh ghaae |18|
After annihilating Quazi and the demon, please take me as yourwoman.’(18)

ਤਬ ਤਿਨ ਜੰਤ੍ਰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਬਹੁ ਕਰੇ ॥
tab tin jantr mantr bahu kare |
ਜਾ ਤੇ ਦੇਵ ਰਾਜ ਜੂ ਜਰੇ ॥
jaa te dev raaj joo jare |
He conducted some incantations and the demon was killed.
ਬਹੁਰਿ ਕਾਜਿਯਹਿ ਪਕਰਿ ਮੰਗਾਯੋ ॥
bahur kaajiyeh pakar mangaayo |
ਮੁਸਕ ਬਾਧਿ ਦਰਿਯਾਇ ਡੁਬਾਯੋ ॥੧੯॥
musak baadh dariyaae ddubaayo |19|
Then he called in Quazi, tied his arms and threw him in the river.(19)
ਬਹੁਰੋ ਤੌਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਕੌ ਬਰਿਯੋ ॥
bahuro tauan triyaa kau bariyo |
ਭਾਤਿ ਭਾਤਿ ਕੇ ਭੋਗਨ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥
bhaat bhaat ke bhogan kariyo |
He married the woman and, inevitably, revelled in making love,
ਦੇਵਰਾਜ ਮੰਤ੍ਰਨ ਸੋ ਜਾਰਿਯੋ ॥
devaraaj mantran so jaariyo |
ਤਾ ਪਾਛੇ ਕਾਜੀ ਕੌ ਮਾਰਿਯੋ ॥੨੦॥
taa paachhe kaajee kau maariyo |20|
As he had burnt demon through sorcery and later killed Quazi.(20)
ਜੋ ਚਤੁਰਾ ਚਿਤ ਚਰਿਤ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥
jo chaturaa chit charit banaayo |
ਮਨ ਮੋ ਚਹਿਯੋ ਵਹੈ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥
man mo chahiyo vahai pat paayo |
She had manoeuvred with subterfuge and had achieved him, whomshe desired for’
ਦੇਵ ਰਾਜ ਕੌ ਆਦਿ ਜਰਾਇਸ ॥
dev raaj kau aad jaraaeis |
ਤਾ ਪਾਛੈ ਕਾਜੀ ਕਹ ਘਾਇਸ ॥੨੧॥
taa paachhai kaajee keh ghaaeis |21|
And through him got the demon burnt and then eliminated Quazi.(21)

ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਸੁਤ ਕੋ ਭਰਤਾ ਕਿਯੋ ਚਤੁਰਾ ਚਰਿਤ ਸੁ ਧਾਰਿ ॥
nrip sut ko bharataa kiyo chaturaa charit su dhaar |
The wise girl, through a phenomenon, married the King’s son,
ਮਨ ਮਾਨਤ ਕੋ ਬਰੁ ਬਰਿਯੋ ਦੇਵ ਕਾਜਿਯਹਿ ਮਾਰਿ ॥੨੨॥
man maanat ko bar bariyo dev kaajiyeh maar |22|
And got the demon and Quazi exterminated.(22)(l)

ਧਰਮ ਛੇਤ੍ਰ ਕੁਰਛੇਤ੍ਰ ਕੋ ਰਥ ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਏਕ ॥
dharam chhetr kurachhetr ko rath bachitr nrip ek |
In the pious place of Kurukashetara, Bachiter Rath used to rule.
ਬਾਜ ਰਾਜ ਸੰਪਤਿ ਸਹਿਤ ਜੀਤੇ ਜੁਧ ਅਨੇਕ ॥੧॥
baaj raaj sanpat sahit jeete judh anek |1|
He had won many wars and was bestowed with many hawks, horsesand wealth.(1)
