ਰਹਰਾਸਿ ਸਾਹਿਬ (ਸ:)

ਹਰਿ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਭਗਤ ਉਪਾਇਆ ਪੈਜ ਰਖਦਾ ਆਇਆ ਰਾਮ ਰਾਜੇ ॥

har jug jug bhagat upaaeaa paij rakhadaa aaeaa raam raaje |

In each and every age, He creates His devotees and preserves their honor, O Lord King.

ਹਰਣਾਖਸੁ ਦੁਸਟੁ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਰਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦੁ ਤਰਾਇਆ ॥

haranaakhas dusatt har maariaa prahalaad taraaeaa |

The Lord killed the wicked Harnaakhash, and saved Prahlaad.

ਅਹੰਕਾਰੀਆ ਨਿੰਦਕਾ ਪਿਠਿ ਦੇਇ ਨਾਮਦੇਉ ਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਇਆ ॥

ahankaareea nindakaa pitth dee naamadeo mukh laaeaa |

He turned his back on the egotists and slanderers, and showed His Face to Naam Dayv.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਐਸਾ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਅੰਤਿ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੨੦॥

jan naanak aisaa har seviaa ant le chhaddaaeaa |4|13|20|

Servant Nanak has so served the Lord, that He will deliver him in the end. ||4||13||20||

Salok, First Mehl:

ਦੁਖੁ ਦਾਰੂ ਸੁਖੁ ਰੋਗੁ ਭਇਆ ਜਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਤਾਮਿ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥

dukh daaroo sukh rog bheaa jaa sukh taam na hoee |

Suffering is the medicine, and pleasure the disease, because where there is pleasure, there is no desire for God.

ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਕਰਣਾ ਮੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਜਾ ਹਉ ਕਰੀ ਨ ਹੋਈ ॥੧॥

toon karataa karanaa mai naahee jaa hau karee na hoee |1|

You are the Creator Lord; I can do nothing. Even if I try, nothing happens. ||1||

ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਵਸਿਆ ॥

balihaaree kudarat vasiaa |

I am a sacrifice to Your almighty creative power which is pervading everywhere.

ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਲਖਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

teraa ant na jaaee lakhiaa |1| rahaau |

Your limits cannot be known. ||1||Pause||

ਜਾਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਹਿ ਜਾਤਾ ਅਕਲ ਕਲਾ ਭਰਪੂਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥

jaat meh jot jot meh jaataa akal kalaa bharapoor rahiaa |

Your Light is in Your creatures, and Your creatures are in Your Light; Your almighty power is pervading everywhere.

ਤੂੰ ਸਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸੁਆਲੑਿਉ ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਤੀ ਸੋ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਇਆ ॥

toon sachaa saahib sifat suaalaiau jin keetee so paar peaa |

You are the True Lord and Master; Your Praise is so beautiful. One who sings it, is carried across.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਤੇ ਕੀਆ ਬਾਤਾ ਜੋ ਕਿਛੁ ਕਰਣਾ ਸੁ ਕਰਿ ਰਹਿਆ ॥੨॥

kahu naanak karate keea baataa jo kichh karanaa su kar rahiaa |2|

Nanak speaks the stories of the Creator Lord; whatever He is to do, He does. ||2||

ਸੋ ਦਰੁ ਰਾਗੁ ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:

ਸੋ ਦਰੁ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੇਹਾ ਸੋ ਘਰੁ ਕੇਹਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਬਹਿ ਸਰਬ ਸਮਾਲੇ ॥

so dar teraa kehaa so ghar kehaa jit beh sarab samaale |

Where is That Door of Yours, and where is That Home, in which You sit and take care of all?

ਵਾਜੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਨਾਦ ਅਨੇਕ ਅਸੰਖਾ ਕੇਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਵਾਵਣਹਾਰੇ ॥

vaaje tere naad anek asankhaa kete tere vaavanahaare |

The Sound-current of the Naad vibrates there for You, and countless musicians play all sorts of instruments there for You.

ਕੇਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਾਗ ਪਰੀ ਸਿਉ ਕਹੀਅਹਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਗਾਵਣਹਾਰੇ ॥

kete tere raag paree siau kaheeeh kete tere gaavanahaare |

There are so many Ragas and musical harmonies to You; so many minstrels sing hymns of You.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਪਵਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਬੈਸੰਤਰੁ ਗਾਵੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਧਰਮੁ ਦੁਆਰੇ ॥

gaavan tudhano pavan paanee baisantar gaavai raajaa dharam duaare |

Wind, water and fire sing of You. The Righteous Judge of Dharma sings at Your Door.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਚਿਤੁ ਗੁਪਤੁ ਲਿਖਿ ਜਾਣਨਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਲਿਖਿ ਧਰਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥

gaavan tudhano chit gupat likh jaanan likh likh dharam beechaare |

Chitr and Gupt, the angels of the conscious and the subconscious who keep the record of actions, and the Righteous Judge of Dharma who reads this record, sing of You.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਈਸਰੁ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਦੇਵੀ ਸੋਹਨਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਸਵਾਰੇ ॥

gaavan tudhano eesar brahamaa devee sohan tere sadaa savaare |

Shiva, Brahma and the Goddess of Beauty, ever adorned by You, sing of You.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਇੰਦ੍ਰਾਸਣਿ ਬੈਠੇ ਦੇਵਤਿਆ ਦਰਿ ਨਾਲੇ ॥

gaavan tudhano indr indraasan baitthe devatiaa dar naale |

Indra, seated on His Throne, sings of You, with the deities at Your Door.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਸਿਧ ਸਮਾਧੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਸਾਧ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥

gaavan tudhano sidh samaadhee andar gaavan tudhano saadh beechaare |

The Siddhas in Samaadhi sing of You; the Saadhus sing of You in contemplation.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਸੰਤੋਖੀ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਵੀਰ ਕਰਾਰੇ ॥

gaavan tudhano jatee satee santokhee gaavan tudhano veer karaare |

The celibates, the fanatics, and the peacefully accepting sing of You; the fearless warriors sing of You.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਪੰਡਿਤ ਪੜਨਿ ਰਖੀਸੁਰ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਵੇਦਾ ਨਾਲੇ ॥

gaavan tudhano panddit parran rakheesur jug jug vedaa naale |

The Pandits, the religious scholars who recite the Vedas, with the supreme sages of all the ages, sing of You.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਮੋਹਣੀਆ ਮਨੁ ਮੋਹਨਿ ਸੁਰਗੁ ਮਛੁ ਪਇਆਲੇ ॥

gaavan tudhano mohaneea man mohan surag machh peaale |

The Mohinis, the enchanting heavenly beauties who entice hearts in paradise, in this world, and in the underworld of the subconscious, sing of You.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਰਤਨ ਉਪਾਏ ਤੇਰੇ ਅਠਸਠਿ ਤੀਰਥ ਨਾਲੇ ॥

gaavan tudhano ratan upaae tere atthasatth teerath naale |

The celestial jewels created by You, and the sixty-eight sacred shrines of pilgrimage, sing of You.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਜੋਧ ਮਹਾਬਲ ਸੂਰਾ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਖਾਣੀ ਚਾਰੇ ॥

gaavan tudhano jodh mahaabal sooraa gaavan tudhano khaanee chaare |

The brave and mighty warriors sing of You. The spiritual heroes and the four sources of creation sing of You.

ਗਾਵਨਿ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਖੰਡ ਮੰਡਲ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡਾ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਰਖੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਧਾਰੇ ॥

gaavan tudhano khandd manddal brahamanddaa kar kar rakhe tere dhaare |

The worlds, solar systems and galaxies, created and arranged by Your Hand, sing of You.

ਸੇਈ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਜੋ ਤੁਧੁ ਭਾਵਨਿ ਰਤੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਰਸਾਲੇ ॥

seee tudhano gaavan jo tudh bhaavan rate tere bhagat rasaale |

They alone sing of You, who are pleasing to Your Will. Your devotees are imbued with Your Sublime Essence.

ਹੋਰਿ ਕੇਤੇ ਤੁਧਨੋ ਗਾਵਨਿ ਸੇ ਮੈ ਚਿਤਿ ਨ ਆਵਨਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਕਿਆ ਬੀਚਾਰੇ ॥

hor kete tudhano gaavan se mai chit na aavan naanak kiaa beechaare |

So many others sing of You, they do not come to mind. O Nanak, how can I think of them all?

ਸੋਈ ਸੋਈ ਸਦਾ ਸਚੁ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਚੀ ਨਾਈ ॥

soee soee sadaa sach saahib saachaa saachee naaee |

That True Lord is True, forever True, and True is His Name.

ਹੈ ਭੀ ਹੋਸੀ ਜਾਇ ਨ ਜਾਸੀ ਰਚਨਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਰਚਾਈ ॥

hai bhee hosee jaae na jaasee rachanaa jin rachaaee |

He is, and shall always be. He shall not depart, even when this Universe which He has created departs.

ਰੰਗੀ ਰੰਗੀ ਭਾਤੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਜਿਨਸੀ ਮਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਈ ॥

rangee rangee bhaatee kar kar jinasee maaeaa jin upaaee |

He created the world, with its various colors, species of beings, and the variety of Maya.

ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਦੇਖੈ ਕੀਤਾ ਆਪਣਾ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਸ ਦੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

kar kar dekhai keetaa aapanaa jiau tis dee vaddiaaee |

Having created the creation, He watches over it Himself, by His Greatness.

ਜੋ ਤਿਸੁ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਕਰਸੀ ਫਿਰਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਕਰਣਾ ਜਾਈ ॥

jo tis bhaavai soee karasee fir hukam na karanaa jaaee |

He does whatever He pleases. No one can issue any order to Him.

ਸੋ ਪਾਤਿਸਾਹੁ ਸਾਹਾ ਪਤਿਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਰਹਣੁ ਰਜਾਈ ॥੧॥

so paatisaahu saahaa patisaahib naanak rehan rajaaee |1|

He is the King, the King of kings, the Supreme Lord and Master of kings. Nanak remains subject to His Will. ||1||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਸੁਣਿ ਵਡਾ ਆਖੈ ਸਭੁ ਕੋਇ ॥

sun vaddaa aakhai sabh koe |

Hearing of His Greatness, everyone calls Him Great.

ਕੇਵਡੁ ਵਡਾ ਡੀਠਾ ਹੋਇ ॥

kevadd vaddaa ddeetthaa hoe |

But just how Great His Greatness is-this is known only to those who have seen Him.

ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਇ ਨ ਕਹਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥

keemat paae na kahiaa jaae |

His Value cannot be estimated; He cannot be described.

ਕਹਣੈ ਵਾਲੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਰਹੇ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥

kahanai vaale tere rahe samaae |1|

Those who describe You, Lord, remain immersed and absorbed in You. ||1||

ਵਡੇ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਗਹਿਰ ਗੰਭੀਰਾ ਗੁਣੀ ਗਹੀਰਾ ॥

vadde mere saahibaa gahir ganbheeraa gunee gaheeraa |

O my Great Lord and Master of Unfathomable Depth, You are the Ocean of Excellence.

ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਣੈ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੇਤਾ ਕੇਵਡੁ ਚੀਰਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

koe na jaanai teraa ketaa kevadd cheeraa |1| rahaau |

No one knows the extent or the vastness of Your Expanse. ||1||Pause||

ਸਭਿ ਸੁਰਤੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੁਰਤਿ ਕਮਾਈ ॥

sabh suratee mil surat kamaaee |

All the intuitives met and practiced intuitive meditation.

ਸਭ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥

sabh keemat mil keemat paaee |

All the appraisers met and made the appraisal.

ਗਿਆਨੀ ਧਿਆਨੀ ਗੁਰ ਗੁਰਹਾਈ ॥

giaanee dhiaanee gur gurahaaee |

The spiritual teachers, the teachers of meditation, and the teachers of teachers

ਕਹਣੁ ਨ ਜਾਈ ਤੇਰੀ ਤਿਲੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥੨॥

kehan na jaaee teree til vaddiaaee |2|

-they cannot describe even an iota of Your Greatness. ||2||

ਸਭਿ ਸਤ ਸਭਿ ਤਪ ਸਭਿ ਚੰਗਿਆਈਆ ॥

sabh sat sabh tap sabh changiaaeea |

All Truth, all austere discipline, all goodness,

ਸਿਧਾ ਪੁਰਖਾ ਕੀਆ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ॥

sidhaa purakhaa keea vaddiaaeea |

all the great miraculous spiritual powers of the Siddhas

ਤੁਧੁ ਵਿਣੁ ਸਿਧੀ ਕਿਨੈ ਨ ਪਾਈਆ ॥

tudh vin sidhee kinai na paaeea |

without You, no one has attained such powers.

ਕਰਮਿ ਮਿਲੈ ਨਾਹੀ ਠਾਕਿ ਰਹਾਈਆ ॥੩॥

karam milai naahee tthaak rahaaeea |3|

They are received only by Your Grace. No one can block them or stop their flow. ||3||

ਆਖਣ ਵਾਲਾ ਕਿਆ ਵੇਚਾਰਾ ॥

aakhan vaalaa kiaa vechaaraa |

What can the poor helpless creatures do?

ਸਿਫਤੀ ਭਰੇ ਤੇਰੇ ਭੰਡਾਰਾ ॥

sifatee bhare tere bhanddaaraa |

Your Praises are overflowing with Your Treasures.

ਜਿਸੁ ਤੂ ਦੇਹਿ ਤਿਸੈ ਕਿਆ ਚਾਰਾ ॥

jis too dehi tisai kiaa chaaraa |

Those, unto whom You give-how can they think of any other?

ਨਾਨਕ ਸਚੁ ਸਵਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੨॥

naanak sach savaaranahaaraa |4|2|

O Nanak, the True One embellishes and exalts. ||4||2||

ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Aasaa, First Mehl:

ਆਖਾ ਜੀਵਾ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਉ ॥

aakhaa jeevaa visarai mar jaau |

Chanting it, I live; forgetting it, I die.

ਆਖਣਿ ਅਉਖਾ ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਉ ॥

aakhan aaukhaa saachaa naau |

It is so difficult to chant the True Name.

ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਭੂਖ ॥

saache naam kee laagai bhookh |

If someone feels hunger for the True Name,

ਉਤੁ ਭੂਖੈ ਖਾਇ ਚਲੀਅਹਿ ਦੂਖ ॥੧॥

aut bhookhai khaae chaleeeh dookh |1|

that hunger shall consume his pain. ||1||

ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਮੇਰੀ ਮਾਇ ॥

so kiau visarai meree maae |

How can I forget Him, O my mother?

ਸਾਚਾ ਸਾਹਿਬੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

saachaa saahib saachai naae |1| rahaau |

True is the Master, True is His Name. ||1||Pause||

ਸਾਚੇ ਨਾਮ ਕੀ ਤਿਲੁ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

saache naam kee til vaddiaaee |

Trying to describe even an iota of the Greatness of the True Name,

ਆਖਿ ਥਕੇ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈ ॥

aakh thake keemat nahee paaee |

people have grown weary, but they have not been able to evaluate it.

ਜੇ ਸਭਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਕੈ ਆਖਣ ਪਾਹਿ ॥

je sabh mil kai aakhan paeh |

Even if everyone were to gather together and speak of Him,

ਵਡਾ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਘਾਟਿ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥੨॥

vaddaa na hovai ghaatt na jaae |2|

He would not become any greater or any lesser. ||2||

ਨਾ ਓਹੁ ਮਰੈ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੋਗੁ ॥

naa ohu marai na hovai sog |

That Lord does not die; there is no reason to mourn.

ਦੇਦਾ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਚੂਕੈ ਭੋਗੁ ॥

dedaa rahai na chookai bhog |

He continues to give, and His Provisions never run short.

ਗੁਣੁ ਏਹੋ ਹੋਰੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਕੋਇ ॥

gun eho hor naahee koe |

This Virtue is His alone; there is no other like Him.

ਨਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਆ ਨਾ ਕੋ ਹੋਇ ॥੩॥

naa ko hoaa naa ko hoe |3|

There never has been, and there never will be. ||3||

ਜੇਵਡੁ ਆਪਿ ਤੇਵਡ ਤੇਰੀ ਦਾਤਿ ॥

jevadd aap tevadd teree daat |

As Great as You Yourself are, O Lord, so Great are Your Gifts.

ਜਿਨਿ ਦਿਨੁ ਕਰਿ ਕੈ ਕੀਤੀ ਰਾਤਿ ॥

jin din kar kai keetee raat |

The One who created the day also created the night.

ਖਸਮੁ ਵਿਸਾਰਹਿ ਤੇ ਕਮਜਾਤਿ ॥

khasam visaareh te kamajaat |

Those who forget their Lord and Master are vile and despicable.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਵੈ ਬਾਝੁ ਸਨਾਤਿ ॥੪॥੩॥

naanak naavai baajh sanaat |4|3|

O Nanak, without the Name, they are wretched outcasts. ||4||3||

ਰਾਗੁ ਗੂਜਰੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

Raag Goojaree, Fourth Mehl:

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਜਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਤਪੁਰਖਾ ਬਿਨਉ ਕਰਉ ਗੁਰ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

har ke jan satigur satapurakhaa binau krau gur paas |

O humble servant of the Lord, O True Guru, O True Primal Being: I offer my humble prayer to You, O Guru.

ਹਮ ਕੀਰੇ ਕਿਰਮ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਕਰਿ ਦਇਆ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥੧॥

ham keere kiram satigur saranaaee kar deaa naam paragaas |1|

I am a mere insect, a worm. O True Guru, I seek Your Sanctuary. Please be merciful, and bless me with the Light of the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮੀਤ ਗੁਰਦੇਵ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥

mere meet guradev mo kau raam naam paragaas |

O my Best Friend, O Divine Guru, please enlighten me with the Name of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਸਖਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਹਮਰੀ ਰਹਰਾਸਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

guramat naam meraa praan sakhaaee har keerat hamaree raharaas |1| rahaau |

Through the Guru's Teachings, the Naam is my breath of life. The Kirtan of the Lord's Praise is my life's occupation. ||1||Pause||

ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਕੇ ਵਡ ਭਾਗ ਵਡੇਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਰਧਾ ਹਰਿ ਪਿਆਸ ॥

har jan ke vadd bhaag vaddere jin har har saradhaa har piaas |

The servants of the Lord have the greatest good fortune; they have faith in the Lord, and a longing for the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤਾਸਹਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਣ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥੨॥

har har naam milai tripataaseh mil sangat gun paragaas |2|

Obtaining the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, they are satisfied; joining the Sangat, the Blessed Congregation, their virtues shine forth. ||2||

ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਨ ਪਾਇਆ ਤੇ ਭਾਗਹੀਣ ਜਮ ਪਾਸਿ ॥

Those who have not obtained the Sublime Essence of the Name of the Lord, Har, Har, Har, are most unfortunate; they are led away by the Messenger of Death.

ਜੋ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਿ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਆਏ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵੇ ਧ੍ਰਿਗੁ ਜੀਵਾਸਿ ॥੩॥

jo satigur saran sangat nahee aae dhrig jeeve dhrig jeevaas |3|

Those who have not sought the Sanctuary of the True Guru and the Sangat, the Holy Congregation-cursed are their lives, and cursed are their hopes of life. ||3||

ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਜਨ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੰਗਤਿ ਪਾਈ ਤਿਨ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲਿਖਾਸਿ ॥

jin har jan satigur sangat paaee tin dhur masatak likhiaa likhaas |

Those humble servants of the Lord who have attained the Company of the True Guru, have such pre-ordained destiny inscribed on their foreheads.

ਧਨੁ ਧੰਨੁ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਜਿਤੁ ਹਰਿ ਰਸੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਮਿਲਿ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿ ॥੪॥੪॥

dhan dhan satasangat jit har ras paaeaa mil jan naanak naam paragaas |4|4|

Blessed, blessed is the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, where the Lord's Essence is obtained. Meeting with His humble servant, O Nanak, the Light of the Naam shines forth. ||4||4||

kaahe re man chitaveh udam jaa aahar har jeeo pariaa |

Why, O mind, do you plot and plan, when the Dear Lord Himself provides for your care?

ਸੈਲ ਪਥਰ ਮਹਿ ਜੰਤ ਉਪਾਏ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਆਗੈ ਕਰਿ ਧਰਿਆ ॥੧॥

sail pathar meh jant upaae taa kaa rijak aagai kar dhariaa |1|

From rocks and stones He created living beings; He places their nourishment before them. ||1||

ਮੇਰੇ ਮਾਧਉ ਜੀ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁ ਤਰਿਆ ॥

mere maadhau jee satasangat mile su tariaa |

O my Dear Lord of souls, one who joins the Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, is saved.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦਿ ਪਰਮ ਪਦੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਸੂਕੇ ਕਾਸਟ ਹਰਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

gur parasaad param pad paaeaa sooke kaasatt hariaa |1| rahaau |

By Guru's Grace, the supreme status is obtained, and the dry wood blossoms forth again in lush greenery. ||1||Pause||

ਜਨਨਿ ਪਿਤਾ ਲੋਕ ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਕਿਸ ਕੀ ਧਰਿਆ ॥

janan pitaa lok sut banitaa koe na kis kee dhariaa |

Mothers, fathers, friends, children and spouses-no one is the support of anyone else.

ਸਿਰਿ ਸਿਰਿ ਰਿਜਕੁ ਸੰਬਾਹੇ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਕਾਹੇ ਮਨ ਭਉ ਕਰਿਆ ॥੨॥

sir sir rijak sanbaahe tthaakur kaahe man bhau kariaa |2|

For each and every person, our Lord and Master provides sustenance. Why are you so afraid, O mind? ||2||

ਊਡੇ ਊਡਿ ਆਵੈ ਸੈ ਕੋਸਾ ਤਿਸੁ ਪਾਛੈ ਬਚਰੇ ਛਰਿਆ ॥

aoodde aoodd aavai sai kosaa tis paachhai bachare chhariaa |

The flamingoes fly hundreds of miles, leaving their young ones behind.

ਤਿਨ ਕਵਣੁ ਖਲਾਵੈ ਕਵਣੁ ਚੁਗਾਵੈ ਮਨ ਮਹਿ ਸਿਮਰਨੁ ਕਰਿਆ ॥੩॥

tin kavan khalaavai kavan chugaavai man meh simaran kariaa |3|

Who feeds them, and who teaches them to feed themselves? Have you ever thought of this in your mind? ||3||

ਸਭਿ ਨਿਧਾਨ ਦਸ ਅਸਟ ਸਿਧਾਨ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਰ ਤਲ ਧਰਿਆ ॥

sabh nidhaan das asatt sidhaan tthaakur kar tal dhariaa |

All the nine treasures, and the eighteen supernatural powers are held by our Lord and Master in the Palm of His Hand.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਬਲਿ ਬਲਿ ਸਦ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਈਐ ਤੇਰਾ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਰਿਆ ॥੪॥੫॥

jan naanak bal bal sad bal jaaeeai teraa ant na paaraavariaa |4|5|

Servant Nanak is devoted, dedicated, forever a sacrifice to You, Lord. Your Expanse has no limit, no boundary. ||4||5||

ਸੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮਾ ਅਗਮ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

so purakh niranjan har purakh niranjan har agamaa agam apaaraa |

That Primal Being is Immaculate and Pure. The Lord, the Primal Being, is Immaculate and Pure. The Lord is Inaccessible, Unreachable and Unrivalled.

ਸਭਿ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਸਭਿ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਜੀ ਹਰਿ ਸਚੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

sabh dhiaaveh sabh dhiaaveh tudh jee har sache sirajanahaaraa |

All meditate, all meditate on You, Dear Lord, O True Creator Lord.

ਸਭਿ ਜੀਅ ਤੁਮਾਰੇ ਜੀ ਤੂੰ ਜੀਆ ਕਾ ਦਾਤਾਰਾ ॥

sabh jeea tumaare jee toon jeea kaa daataaraa |

All living beings are Yours-You are the Giver of all souls.

ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਜੀ ਸਭਿ ਦੂਖ ਵਿਸਾਰਣਹਾਰਾ ॥

har dhiaavahu santahu jee sabh dookh visaaranahaaraa |

Meditate on the Lord, O Saints; He is the Dispeller of all sorrow.

ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਹਰਿ ਆਪੇ ਸੇਵਕੁ ਜੀ ਕਿਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੰਤ ਵਿਚਾਰਾ ॥੧॥

har aape tthaakur har aape sevak jee kiaa naanak jant vichaaraa |1|

The Lord Himself is the Master, the Lord Himself is the Servant. O Nanak, the poor beings are wretched and miserable! ||1||

ਤੂੰ ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਜੀ ਹਰਿ ਏਕੋ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸਮਾਣਾ ॥

toon ghatt ghatt antar sarab nirantar jee har eko purakh samaanaa |

You are constant in each and every heart, and in all things. O Dear Lord, you are the One.

ਇਕਿ ਦਾਤੇ ਇਕਿ ਭੇਖਾਰੀ ਜੀ ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰੇ ਚੋਜ ਵਿਡਾਣਾ ॥

eik daate ik bhekhaaree jee sabh tere choj viddaanaa |

Some are givers, and some are beggars. This is all Your Wondrous Play.

ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਦਾਤਾ ਆਪੇ ਭੁਗਤਾ ਜੀ ਹਉ ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ॥

toon aape daataa aape bhugataa jee hau tudh bin avar na jaanaa |

You Yourself are the Giver, and You Yourself are the Enjoyer. I know no other than You.

ਤੂੰ ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਬੇਅੰਤੁ ਜੀ ਤੇਰੇ ਕਿਆ ਗੁਣ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣਾ ॥

toon paarabraham beant beant jee tere kiaa gun aakh vakhaanaa |

You are the Supreme Lord God, Limitless and Infinite. What Virtues of Yours can I speak of and describe?

ਜੋ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਜੋ ਸੇਵਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਜੀ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਕੁਰਬਾਣਾ ॥੨॥

jo seveh jo seveh tudh jee jan naanak tin kurabaanaa |2|

Unto those who serve You, unto those who serve You, Dear Lord, servant Nanak is a sacrifice. ||2||

ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਵਹਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਜੀ ਸੇ ਜਨ ਜੁਗ ਮਹਿ ਸੁਖਵਾਸੀ ॥

har dhiaaveh har dhiaaveh tudh jee se jan jug meh sukhavaasee |

Those who meditate on You, Lord, those who meditate on You-those humble beings dwell in peace in this world.

ਸੇ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਸੇ ਮੁਕਤੁ ਭਏ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਜੀ ਤਿਨ ਤੂਟੀ ਜਮ ਕੀ ਫਾਸੀ ॥

se mukat se mukat bhe jin har dhiaaeaa jee tin toottee jam kee faasee |

They are liberated, they are liberated-those who meditate on the Lord. For them, the noose of death is cut away.

ਜਿਨ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਜੀ ਤਿਨ ਕਾ ਭਉ ਸਭੁ ਗਵਾਸੀ ॥

jin nirbhau jin har nirbhau dhiaaeaa jee tin kaa bhau sabh gavaasee |

Those who meditate on the Fearless One, on the Fearless Lord-all their fears are dispelled.

ਜਿਨ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਜਿਨ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਮੇਰਾ ਹਰਿ ਜੀ ਤੇ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਰੂਪਿ ਸਮਾਸੀ ॥

jin seviaa jin seviaa meraa har jee te har har roop samaasee |

Those who serve, those who serve my Dear Lord, are absorbed into the Being of the Lord, Har, Har.

ਸੇ ਧੰਨੁ ਸੇ ਧੰਨੁ ਜਿਨ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਜੀ ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਿਨ ਬਲਿ ਜਾਸੀ ॥੩॥

Blessed are they, blessed are they, who meditate on their Dear Lord. Servant Nanak is a sacrifice to them. ||3||

ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਤੇਰੀ ਭਗਤਿ ਭੰਡਾਰ ਜੀ ਭਰੇ ਬਿਅੰਤ ਬੇਅੰਤਾ ॥

Devotion to You, devotion to You, is a treasure overflowing, infinite and beyond measure.

ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਭਗਤ ਸਲਾਹਨਿ ਤੁਧੁ ਜੀ ਹਰਿ ਅਨਿਕ ਅਨੇਕ ਅਨੰਤਾ ॥

tere bhagat tere bhagat salaahan tudh jee har anik anek anantaa |

Your devotees, Your devotees praise You, Dear Lord, in many and various and countless ways.

ਤੇਰੀ ਅਨਿਕ ਤੇਰੀ ਅਨਿਕ ਕਰਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਪੂਜਾ ਜੀ ਤਪੁ ਤਾਪਹਿ ਜਪਹਿ ਬੇਅੰਤਾ ॥

teree anik teree anik kareh har poojaa jee tap taapeh japeh beantaa |

For You, many, for You, so very many perform worship services, O Dear Infinite Lord; they practice disciplined meditation and chant endlessly.

ਤੇਰੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਤੇਰੇ ਅਨੇਕ ਪੜਹਿ ਬਹੁ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਿ ਸਾਸਤ ਜੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਿਆ ਖਟੁ ਕਰਮ ਕਰੰਤਾ ॥

tere anek tere anek parreh bahu simrit saasat jee kar kiriaa khatt karam karantaa |

For You, many, for You, so very many read the various Simritees and Shaastras. They perform rituals and religious rites.

ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਸੇ ਭਗਤ ਭਲੇ ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੀ ਜੋ ਭਾਵਹਿ ਮੇਰੇ ਹਰਿ ਭਗਵੰਤਾ ॥੪॥

se bhagat se bhagat bhale jan naanak jee jo bhaaveh mere har bhagavantaa |4|

Those devotees, those devotees are sublime, O servant Nanak, who are pleasing to my Dear Lord God. ||4||

ਤੂੰ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਅਪਰੰਪਰੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਜੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਜੇਵਡੁ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥

toon aad purakh aparanpar karataa jee tudh jevadd avar na koee |

You are the Primal Being, the Most Wonderful Creator. There is no other as Great as You.

ਤੂੰ ਜੁਗੁ ਜੁਗੁ ਏਕੋ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਤੂੰ ਏਕੋ ਜੀ ਤੂੰ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਸੋਈ ॥

toon jug jug eko sadaa sadaa toon eko jee toon nihachal karataa soee |

Age after age, You are the One. Forever and ever, You are the One. You never change, O Creator Lord.

ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਵਰਤੈ ਜੀ ਤੂੰ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਹਿ ਸੁ ਹੋਈ ॥

tudh aape bhaavai soee varatai jee toon aape kareh su hoee |

Everything happens according to Your Will. You Yourself accomplish all that occurs.

ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਭ ਉਪਾਈ ਜੀ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪੇ ਸਿਰਜਿ ਸਭ ਗੋਈ ॥

tudh aape srisatt sabh upaaee jee tudh aape siraj sabh goee |

You Yourself created the entire universe, and having fashioned it, You Yourself shall destroy it all.

ਜਨੁ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵੈ ਕਰਤੇ ਕੇ ਜੀ ਜੋ ਸਭਸੈ ਕਾ ਜਾਣੋਈ ॥੫॥੧॥

jan naanak gun gaavai karate ke jee jo sabhasai kaa jaanoee |5|1|

Servant Nanak sings the Glorious Praises of the Dear Creator, the Knower of all. ||5||1||

ਤੂੰ ਕਰਤਾ ਸਚਿਆਰੁ ਮੈਡਾ ਸਾਂਈ ॥

toon karataa sachiaar maiddaa saanee |

You are the True Creator, my Lord and Master.

ਜੋ ਤਉ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋਈ ਥੀਸੀ ਜੋ ਤੂੰ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਹਉ ਪਾਈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jo tau bhaavai soee theesee jo toon dehi soee hau paaee |1| rahaau |

Whatever pleases You comes to pass. As You give, so do we receive. ||1||Pause||

ਸਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਤੂੰ ਸਭਨੀ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥

sabh teree toon sabhanee dhiaaeaa |

All belong to You, all meditate on you.

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਤਿਨਿ ਨਾਮ ਰਤਨੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

jis no kripaa kareh tin naam ratan paaeaa |

Those who are blessed with Your Mercy obtain the Jewel of the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਲਾਧਾ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਗਵਾਇਆ ॥

guramukh laadhaa manamukh gavaaeaa |

The Gurmukhs obtain it, and the self-willed manmukhs lose it.

ਤੁਧੁ ਆਪਿ ਵਿਛੋੜਿਆ ਆਪਿ ਮਿਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

tudh aap vichhorriaa aap milaaeaa |1|

You Yourself separate them from Yourself, and You Yourself reunite with them again. ||1||

ਤੂੰ ਦਰੀਆਉ ਸਭ ਤੁਝ ਹੀ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

toon dareeaau sabh tujh hee maeh |

You are the River of Life; all are within You.

ਤੁਝ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਕੋਈ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

tujh bin doojaa koee naeh |

There is no one except You.

ਜੀਅ ਜੰਤ ਸਭਿ ਤੇਰਾ ਖੇਲੁ ॥

jeea jant sabh teraa khel |

All living beings are Your playthings.

ਵਿਜੋਗਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਵਿਛੁੜਿਆ ਸੰਜੋਗੀ ਮੇਲੁ ॥੨॥

vijog mil vichhurriaa sanjogee mel |2|

The separated ones meet, and by great good fortune, those suffering in separation are reunited once again. ||2||

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਤੂ ਜਾਣਾਇਹਿ ਸੋਈ ਜਨੁ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

jis no too jaanaaeihi soee jan jaanai |

They alone understand, whom You inspire to understand;

ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਸਦ ਹੀ ਆਖਿ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥

har gun sad hee aakh vakhaanai |

they continually chant and repeat the Lord's Praises.

ਜਿਨਿ ਹਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਆ ਤਿਨਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥

jin har seviaa tin sukh paaeaa |

Those who serve You find peace.

ਸਹਜੇ ਹੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੩॥

sahaje hee har naam samaaeaa |3|

They are intuitively absorbed into the Lord's Name. ||3||

ਤੂ ਆਪੇ ਕਰਤਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਆ ਸਭੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

too aape karataa teraa keea sabh hoe |

You Yourself are the Creator. Everything that happens is by Your Doing.

ਤੁਧੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦੂਜਾ ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਕੋਇ ॥

tudh bin doojaa avar na koe |

There is no one except You.

ਤੂ ਕਰਿ ਕਰਿ ਵੇਖਹਿ ਜਾਣਹਿ ਸੋਇ ॥

too kar kar vekheh jaaneh soe |

You created the creation; You behold it and understand it.

ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਗਟੁ ਹੋਇ ॥੪॥੨॥

jan naanak guramukh paragatt hoe |4|2|

O servant Nanak, the Lord is revealed through the Gurmukh, the Living Expression of the Guru's Word. ||4||2||

ਤਿਤੁ ਸਰਵਰੜੈ ਭਈਲੇ ਨਿਵਾਸਾ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਾਵਕੁ ਤਿਨਹਿ ਕੀਆ ॥

tit saravararrai bheele nivaasaa paanee paavak tineh keea |

In that pool, people have made their homes, but the water there is as hot as fire!

ਪੰਕਜੁ ਮੋਹ ਪਗੁ ਨਹੀ ਚਾਲੈ ਹਮ ਦੇਖਾ ਤਹ ਡੂਬੀਅਲੇ ॥੧॥

pankaj moh pag nahee chaalai ham dekhaa teh ddoobeeale |1|

In the swamp of emotional attachment, their feet cannot move. I have seen them drowning there. ||1||

ਮਨ ਏਕੁ ਨ ਚੇਤਸਿ ਮੂੜ ਮਨਾ ॥

man ek na chetas moorr manaa |

In your mind, you do not remember the One Lord-you fool!

ਹਰਿ ਬਿਸਰਤ ਤੇਰੇ ਗੁਣ ਗਲਿਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

har bisarat tere gun galiaa |1| rahaau |

You have forgotten the Lord; your virtues shall wither away. ||1||Pause||

ਨਾ ਹਉ ਜਤੀ ਸਤੀ ਨਹੀ ਪੜਿਆ ਮੂਰਖ ਮੁਗਧਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਭਇਆ ॥

naa hau jatee satee nahee parriaa moorakh mugadhaa janam bheaa |

I am not celibate, nor truthful, nor scholarly. I was born foolish and ignorant into this world.

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਸਰਣਾ ਜਿਨ ਤੂ ਨਾਹੀ ਵੀਸਰਿਆ ॥੨॥੩॥

Prays Nanak, I seek the Sanctuary of those who have not forgotten You, O Lord! ||2||3||

This is your chance to meet the Lord of the Universe.

ਅਵਰਿ ਕਾਜ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਕਾਮ ॥

avar kaaj terai kitai na kaam |

Nothing else will work.

ਮਿਲੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਭਜੁ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ॥੧॥

mil saadhasangat bhaj keval naam |1|

Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; vibrate and meditate on the Jewel of the Naam. ||1||

ਸਰੰਜਾਮਿ ਲਾਗੁ ਭਵਜਲ ਤਰਨ ਕੈ ॥

saranjaam laag bhavajal taran kai |

Make every effort to cross over this terrifying world-ocean.

ਜਨਮੁ ਬ੍ਰਿਥਾ ਜਾਤ ਰੰਗਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

janam brithaa jaat rang maaeaa kai |1| rahaau |

You are squandering this life uselessly in the love of Maya. ||1||Pause||

ਜਪੁ ਤਪੁ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਧਰਮੁ ਨ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥

jap tap sanjam dharam na kamaaeaa |

I have not practiced meditation, self-discipline, self-restraint or righteous living.

ਸੇਵਾ ਸਾਧ ਨ ਜਾਨਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇਆ ॥

sevaa saadh na jaaniaa har raaeaa |

I have not served the Holy; I have not acknowledged the Lord, my King.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਮ ਨੀਚ ਕਰੰਮਾ ॥

kahu naanak ham neech karamaa |

Says Nanak, my actions are contemptible!

ਸਰਣਿ ਪਰੇ ਕੀ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਸਰਮਾ ॥੨॥੪॥

saran pare kee raakhahu saramaa |2|4|

O Lord, I seek Your Sanctuary; please, preserve my honor! ||2||4||

ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਇ ਚਿਤ ਕੀ ਇੱਛਾ ॥

pooran hoe chit kee ichhaa |

all the desires of my heart be fulfilled.

ਤਵ ਚਰਨਨ ਮਨ ਰਹੈ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥

tav charanan man rahai hamaaraa |

Let my mind rest under Thy Feet

ਅਪਨਾ ਜਾਨ ਕਰੋ ਪ੍ਰਤਿਪਾਰਾ ॥੩੭੭॥

apanaa jaan karo pratipaaraa |377|

Sustain me, considering me Thine own.377.

ਹਮਰੇ ਦੁਸਟ ਸਭੈ ਤੁਮ ਘਾਵਹੁ ॥

hamare dusatt sabhai tum ghaavahu |

Destroy, O Lord! all my enemies and

ਆਪੁ ਹਾਥ ਦੈ ਮੋਹਿ ਬਚਾਵਹੁ ॥

aap haath dai mohi bachaavahu |

protect me with Thine won Hnads.

ਸੁਖੀ ਬਸੈ ਮੋਰੋ ਪਰਿਵਾਰਾ ॥

sukhee basai moro parivaaraa |

May my family live in comfort

ਸੇਵਕ ਸਿੱਖ ਸਭੈ ਕਰਤਾਰਾ ॥੩੭੮॥

sevak sikh sabhai karataaraa |378|

and ease alongwith all my servants and disciples.378.

ਮੋ ਰੱਛਾ ਨਿਜ ਕਰ ਦੈ ਕਰਿਯੈ ॥

mo rachhaa nij kar dai kariyai |

Protect me O Lord! with Thine own Hands

ਸਭ ਬੈਰਨ ਕੋ ਆਜ ਸੰਘਰਿਯੈ ॥

sabh bairan ko aaj sanghariyai |

and destroy this day all my enemies

ਪੂਰਨ ਹੋਇ ਹਮਾਰੀ ਆਸਾ ॥

pooran hoe hamaaree aasaa |

May all the aspirations be fulfilled

ਤੋਰ ਭਜਨ ਕੀ ਰਹੈ ਪਿਆਸਾ ॥੩੭੯॥

tor bhajan kee rahai piaasaa |379|

Let my thirst for Thy Name remain afresh.379.

ਤੁਮਹਿ ਛਾਡਿ ਕੋਈ ਅਵਰ ਨ ਧਿਯਾਊਂ ॥

tumeh chhaadd koee avar na dhiyaaoon |

I may remember none else except Thee

ਜੋ ਬਰ ਚਹੋਂ ਸੁ ਤੁਮ ਤੇ ਪਾਊਂ ॥

jo bar chahon su tum te paaoon |

And obtain all the required boons from Thee

ਸੇਵਕ ਸਿੱਖ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਤਾਰੀਅਹਿ ॥

sevak sikh hamaare taareeeh |

Let my servants and disciples cross the world-ocean

ਚੁਨਿ ਚੁਨਿ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਮਾਰੀਅਹਿ ॥੩੮੦॥

chun chun satr hamaare maareeeh |380|

All my enemies be singled out and killed.380.

ਆਪ ਹਾਥ ਦੈ ਮੁਝੈ ਉਬਰਿਯੈ ॥

aap haath dai mujhai ubariyai |

Protect me O Lord! with Thine own Hands and

ਮਰਨ ਕਾਲ ਕਾ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ਨਿਵਰਿਯੈ ॥

maran kaal kaa traas nivariyai |

relieve me form the fear of death

ਹੂਜੋ ਸਦਾ ਹਮਾਰੇ ਪੱਛਾ ॥

hoojo sadaa hamaare pachhaa |

May Thou ever Bestow Thy favours on my side

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਅਸਿਧੁਜ ਜੂ ਕਰਿਯਹੁ ਰੱਛਾ ॥੩੮੧॥

sree asidhuj joo kariyahu rachhaa |381|

Protect me O Lord! Thou, the Supreme Destroyer.381.

ਰਾਖਿ ਲੇਹੁ ਮੁਹਿ ਰਾਖਨਹਾਰੇ ॥

raakh lehu muhi raakhanahaare |

Protect me, O Protector Lord!

ਸਾਹਿਬ ਸੰਤ ਸਹਾਇ ਪਿਯਾਰੇ ॥

saahib sant sahaae piyaare |

Most dear, the Protector of the Saints:

ਦੀਨ ਬੰਧੁ ਦੁਸਟਨ ਕੇ ਹੰਤਾ ॥

deen bandh dusattan ke hantaa |

Friend of poor and the Destroyer of the enemies

ਤੁਮ ਹੋ ਪੁਰੀ ਚਤੁਰਦਸ ਕੰਤਾ ॥੩੮੨॥

tum ho puree chaturadas kantaa |382|

Thou art the Master of the fourteen worlds.382.

ਕਾਲ ਪਾਇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਬਪੁ ਧਰਾ ॥

kaal paae brahamaa bap dharaa |

In due time Brahma appeared in physical form

ਕਾਲ ਪਾਇ ਸਿਵ ਜੂ ਅਵਤਰਾ ॥

kaal paae siv joo avataraa |

In due time Shiva incarnated

ਕਾਲ ਪਾਇ ਕਰ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਪ੍ਰਕਾਸਾ ॥

kaal paae kar bisan prakaasaa |

In due time Vishnu manifested himself

ਸਕਲ ਕਾਲ ਕਾ ਕੀਆ ਤਮਾਸਾ ॥੩੮੩॥

sakal kaal kaa keea tamaasaa |383|

All this is the play of the Temporal Lord.383.

ਜਵਨ ਕਾਲ ਜੋਗੀ ਸਿਵ ਕੀਓ ॥

javan kaal jogee siv keeo |

The Temporal Lord, who created Shiva, the Yogi

ਬੇਦ ਰਾਜ ਬ੍ਰਹਮਾ ਜੂ ਥੀਓ ॥

bed raaj brahamaa joo theeo |

Who created Brahma, the Master of the Vedas

ਜਵਨ ਕਾਲ ਸਭ ਲੋਕ ਸਵਾਰਾ ॥

javan kaal sabh lok savaaraa |

The Temporal Lord who fashioned the entire world

ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਹੈ ਤਾਹਿ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੩੮੪॥

namasakaar hai taeh hamaaraa |384|

I salute the same Lord.384.

ਜਵਨ ਕਾਲ ਸਭ ਜਗਤ ਬਨਾਯੋ ॥

javan kaal sabh jagat banaayo |

The Temporal Lord, who created the whole world

ਦੇਵ ਦੈਤ ਜੱਛਨ ਉਪਜਾਯੋ ॥

dev dait jachhan upajaayo |

Who created gods, demons and yakshas

ਆਦਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਏਕੈ ਅਵਤਾਰਾ ॥

aad ant ekai avataaraa |

He is the only one form the beginning to the end

ਸੋਈ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਮਝਿਯਹੁ ਹਮਾਰਾ ॥੩੮੫॥

soee guroo samajhiyahu hamaaraa |385|

I consider Him only my Guru.385.

ਨਮਸਕਾਰ ਤਿਸ ਹੀ ਕੋ ਹਮਾਰੀ ॥

namasakaar tis hee ko hamaaree |

I salute Him, non else, but Him

ਸਕਲ ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਜਿਨ ਆਪ ਸਵਾਰੀ ॥

sakal prajaa jin aap savaaree |

Who has created Himself and His subject

ਸਿਵਕਨ ਕੋ ਸਿਵਗੁਨ ਸੁਖ ਦੀਓ ॥

sivakan ko sivagun sukh deeo |

He bestows Divine virtues and happiness on His servants

ਸੱਤ੍ਰੁਨ ਕੋ ਪਲ ਮੋ ਬਧ ਕੀਓ ॥੩੮੬॥

satrun ko pal mo badh keeo |386|

He destroys the enemies instantly.386.

ਘਟ ਘਟ ਕੇ ਅੰਤਰ ਕੀ ਜਾਨਤ ॥

ghatt ghatt ke antar kee jaanat |

He knows the inner feelings of every heart

ਭਲੇ ਬੁਰੇ ਕੀ ਪੀਰ ਪਛਾਨਤ ॥

bhale bure kee peer pachhaanat |

He knows the anguish of both good and bad

ਚੀਟੀ ਤੇ ਕੁੰਚਰ ਅਸਥੂਲਾ ॥

cheettee te kunchar asathoolaa |

From the ant to the solid elephant

ਸਭ ਪਰ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਕਰਿ ਫੂਲਾ ॥੩੮੭॥

sabh par kripaa drisatt kar foolaa |387|

He casts His Graceful glance on all and feels pleased.387.

ਸੰਤਨ ਦੁਖ ਪਾਏ ਤੇ ਦੁਖੀ ॥

santan dukh paae te dukhee |

He is painful, when He sees His saints in grief

ਸੁਖ ਪਾਏ ਸਾਧੁਨ ਕੇ ਸੁਖੀ ॥

sukh paae saadhun ke sukhee |

He is happy, when His saints are happy.

ਏਕ ਏਕ ਕੀ ਪੀਰ ਪਛਾਨੈਂ ॥

ek ek kee peer pachhaanain |

He knows the agony of everyone

ਘਟ ਘਟ ਕੇ ਪਟ ਪਟ ਕੀ ਜਾਨੈਂ ॥੩੮੮॥

ghatt ghatt ke patt patt kee jaanain |388|

He knows the innermost secrets of every heart.388.

ਜਬ ਉਦਕਰਖ ਕਰਾ ਕਰਤਾਰਾ ॥

jab udakarakh karaa karataaraa |

When the Creator projected Himself,

ਪ੍ਰਜਾ ਧਰਤ ਤਬ ਦੇਹ ਅਪਾਰਾ ॥

prajaa dharat tab deh apaaraa |

His creation manifested itself in innumerable forms

ਜਬ ਆਕਰਖ ਕਰਤ ਹੋ ਕਬਹੂੰ ॥

jab aakarakh karat ho kabahoon |

When at any time He withdraws His creation,

ਤੁਮ ਮੈ ਮਿਲਤ ਦੇਹ ਧਰ ਸਭਹੂੰ ॥੩੮੯॥

tum mai milat deh dhar sabhahoon |389|

all the physical forms are merged in Him.389.

ਜੇਤੇ ਬਦਨ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਸਭ ਧਾਰੈ ॥

jete badan srisatt sabh dhaarai |

All the bodies of living beings created in the world

ਆਪੁ ਆਪਨੀ ਬੂਝ ਉਚਾਰੈ ॥

aap aapanee boojh uchaarai |

speak about Him according to their understanding

ਤੁਮ ਸਭ ਹੀ ਤੇ ਰਹਤ ਨਿਰਾਲਮ ॥

tum sabh hee te rehat niraalam |

But Thou, O Lord! live quite apart from everything

ਜਾਨਤ ਬੇਦ ਭੇਦ ਅਰ ਆਲਮ ॥੩੯੦॥

jaanat bed bhed ar aalam |390|

this fact is know to the Vedas and the learned.390.

ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਨ੍ਰਿਬਿਕਾਰ ਨਿਰਲੰਭ ॥

nirankaar nribikaar niralanbh |

The Lord is Formless, Sinless and shelterless:

ਆਦਿ ਅਨੀਲ ਅਨਾਦਿ ਅਸੰਭ ॥

aad aneel anaad asanbh |

He is the Primal Power, without Blemish, without Beginning and Unborn

ਤਾ ਕਾ ਮੂੜ੍ਹ ਉਚਾਰਤ ਭੇਦਾ ॥

taa kaa moorrh uchaarat bhedaa |

The fool claims boastfully about the knowledge of His secrets,

ਜਾ ਕੋ ਭੇਵ ਨ ਪਾਵਤ ਬੇਦਾ ॥੩੯੧॥

jaa ko bhev na paavat bedaa |391|

which even the Vedas do not know.391.

ਤਾ ਕੋ ਕਰਿ ਪਾਹਨ ਅਨੁਮਾਨਤ ॥

taa ko kar paahan anumaanat |

The fool considers Him a stone,

ਮਹਾ ਮੂੜ੍ਹ ਕਛੁ ਭੇਦ ਨ ਜਾਨਤ ॥

mahaa moorrh kachh bhed na jaanat |

but the great fool does not know any secret

ਮਹਾਦੇਵ ਕੋ ਕਹਤ ਸਦਾ ਸਿਵ ॥

mahaadev ko kehat sadaa siv |

He calls Shiva “The Eternal Lord,

ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰ ਕਾ ਚੀਨਤ ਨਹਿ ਭਿਵ ॥੩੯੨॥

nirankaar kaa cheenat neh bhiv |392|

“but he does not know the secret of the Formless Lord.392.

ਆਪੁ ਆਪਨੀ ਬੁਧਿ ਹੈ ਜੇਤੀ ॥

aap aapanee budh hai jetee |

According to ones won intellect,

ਬਰਨਤ ਭਿੰਨ ਭਿੰਨ ਤੁਹਿ ਤੇਤੀ ॥

baranat bhin bhin tuhi tetee |

one describes Thee differently

ਤੁਮਰਾ ਲਖਾ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਪਸਾਰਾ ॥

tumaraa lakhaa na jaae pasaaraa |

The limits of Thy creation cannot be known

ਕਿਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਸਜਾ ਪ੍ਰਥਮ ਸੰਸਾਰਾ ॥੩੯੩॥

kih bidh sajaa pratham sansaaraa |393|

and how the world was fashioned in the beginning?393.

ਏਕੈ ਰੂਪ ਅਨੂਪ ਸਰੂਪਾ ॥

ekai roop anoop saroopaa |

He hath only one unparalleled Form

ਰੰਕ ਭਯੋ ਰਾਵ ਕਹੀ ਭੂਪਾ ॥

rank bhayo raav kahee bhoopaa |

He manifests Himself as a poor man or a king at different places

ਅੰਡਜ ਜੇਰਜ ਸੇਤਜ ਕੀਨੀ ॥

anddaj jeraj setaj keenee |

He created creatures from eggs, wombs and perspiration

ਉਤਭੁਜ ਖਾਨਿ ਬਹੁਰ ਰਚਿ ਦੀਨੀ ॥੩੯੪॥

autabhuj khaan bahur rach deenee |394|

Then He created the vegetable kingdom.394.

ਕਹੂੰ ਫੂਲਿ ਰਾਜਾ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਬੈਠਾ ॥

kahoon fool raajaa hvai baitthaa |

Somewhere He sits joyfully as a king

ਕਹੂੰ ਸਿਮਟਿ ਭਿ︀ਯੋ ਸੰਕਰ ਇਕੈਠਾ ॥

kahoon simatt bhiyo sankar ikaitthaa |

Somewhere He contracts Himself as Shiva, the Yogi

ਸਗਰੀ ਸ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਦਿਖਾਇ ਅਚੰਭਵ ॥

sagaree srisatt dikhaae achanbhav |

All His creation unfolds wonderful things

ਆਦਿ ਜੁਗਾਦਿ ਸਰੂਪ ਸੁਯੰਭਵ ॥੩੯੫॥

aad jugaad saroop suyanbhav |395|

He, the Primal Power, is from the beginning and Self-Existent.395.

ਅਬ ਰੱਛਾ ਮੇਰੀ ਤੁਮ ਕਰੋ ॥

ab rachhaa meree tum karo |

O Lord! keep me now under Thy protection

ਸਿੱਖ ਉਬਾਰਿ ਅਸਿੱਖ ਸੰਘਰੋ ॥

sikh ubaar asakh sangharo |

Protect my disciples and destroy my enemies

ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਜਿਤੇ ਉਠਵਤ ਉਤਪਾਤਾ ॥

dushatt jite utthavat utapaataa |

ਸਕਲ ਮਲੇਛ ਕਰੋ ਰਣ ਘਾਤਾ ॥੩੯੬॥

sakal malechh karo ran ghaataa |396|

All the villains creations outrage and all the infidels be destroyed in the battlefield.396.

ਜੇ ਅਸਿਧੁਜ ਤਵ ਸਰਨੀ ਪਰੇ ॥

je asidhuj tav saranee pare |

ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਦੁਸਟ ਦੁਖਿਤ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਮਰੇ ॥

tin ke dusatt dukhit hvai mare |

O Supreme Destroyer! those who sought Thy refuge, their enemies met painful death

ਪੁਰਖ ਜਵਨ ਪਗ ਪਰੇ ਤਿਹਾਰੇ ॥

purakh javan pag pare tihaare |

ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਤੁਮ ਸੰਕਟ ਸਭ ਟਾਰੇ ॥੩੯੭॥

tin ke tum sankatt sabh ttaare |397|

The persons who fell at Thy Feet, Thou didst remove all their troubles.397.

ਜੋ ਕਲਿ ਕੋ ਇਕ ਬਾਰ ਧਿਐਹੈ ॥

jo kal ko ik baar dhiaihai |

ਤਾ ਕੇ ਕਾਲ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨਹਿ ਐਹੈ ॥

taa ke kaal nikatt neh aihai |

Those who meditate even on the Supreme Destroyer, the death cannot approach them

ਰੱਛਾ ਹੋਇ ਤਾਹਿ ਸਭ ਕਾਲਾ ॥

rachhaa hoe taeh sabh kaalaa |

They remain protected at all times

ਦੁਸਟ ਅਰਿਸਟ ਟਰੇਂ ਤਤਕਾਲਾ ॥੩੯੮॥

dusatt arisatt ttaren tatakaalaa |398|

Their enemies and troubles come to and end instantly.398.

ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਦ੍ਰਿਸਟਿ ਤਨ ਜਾਹਿ ਨਿਹਰਿਹੋ ॥

kripaa drisatt tan jaeh nihariho |

ਤਾ ਕੇ ਤਾਪ ਤਨਕ ਮੋ ਹਰਿਹੋ ॥

taa ke taap tanak mo hariho |

Upon whomsoever Thou dost cast Thy favourable glance, they are absolved of sins instantly

ਰਿੱਧਿ ਸਿੱਧਿ ਘਰ ਮੋ ਸਭ ਹੋਈ ॥

ridh sidh ghar mo sabh hoee |

They have all the worldly and spiritual pleasures in their homes

ਦੁਸ਼ਟ ਛਾਹ ਛ੍ਵੈ ਸਕੈ ਨ ਕੋਈ ॥੩੯੯॥

dushatt chhaah chhvai sakai na koee |399|

None of th enemies can even touch their shadow.399.

ਏਕ ਬਾਰ ਜਿਨ ਤੁਮੈ ਸੰਭਾਰਾ ॥

ek baar jin tumai sanbhaaraa |

ਕਾਲ ਫਾਸ ਤੇ ਤਾਹਿ ਉਬਾਰਾ ॥

kaal faas te taeh ubaaraa |

He, who remembered Thee even once, Thou didst protect him from the noose of death

ਜਿਨ ਨਰ ਨਾਮ ਤਿਹਾਰੋ ਕਹਾ ॥

jin nar naam tihaaro kahaa |

ਦਾਰਿਦ ਦੁਸਟ ਦੋਖ ਤੇ ਰਹਾ ॥੪੦੦॥

daarid dusatt dokh te rahaa |400|

Those persons, who repeated Thy Name, they were saved from poverty and attacks of enemies.400.

ਖੜਗ ਕੇਤ ਮੈ ਸਰਣਿ ਤਿਹਾਰੀ ॥

kharrag ket mai saran tihaaree |

ਆਪ ਹਾਥ ਦੈ ਲੇਹੁ ਉਬਾਰੀ ॥

aap haath dai lehu ubaaree |

Bestow thy help own me at all places protect me from the design of my enemies. 401.

ਸਰਬ ਠੌਰ ਮੋ ਹੋਹੁ ਸਹਾਈ ॥

sarab tthauar mo hohu sahaaee |

ਦੁਸਟ ਦੋਖ ਤੇ ਲੇਹੁ ਬਚਾਈ ॥੪੦੧॥

dusatt dokh te lehu bachaaee |401|

Bestow Thy help on me at all places and protect me from the designs of my enemies.401.

ਪਾਂਇ ਗਹੇ ਜਬ ਤੇ ਤੁਮਰੇ ਤਬ ਤੇ ਕੋਊ ਆਂਖ ਤਰੇ ਨਹੀਂ ਆਨ︀ਯੋ ॥

paane gahe jab te tumare tab te koaoo aankh tare naheen aanayo |

O God! the day when I caught hold of your feet, I do not bring anyone else under my sight

ਰਾਮ ਰਹੀਮ ਪੁਰਾਨ ਕੁਰਾਨ ਅਨੇਕ ਕਹੈਂ ਮਤ ਏਕ ਨ ਮਾਨ︀ਯੋ ॥

raam raheem puraan kuraan anek kahain mat ek na maanayo |

None other is liked by me now the Puranas and the Quran try to know Thee by the names of Ram and Rahim and talk about you through several stories,

ਸਿੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਬੇਦ ਸਭੈ ਬਹੁ ਭੇਦ ਕਹੈਂ ਹਮ ਏਕ ਨ ਜਾਨ︀ਯੋ ॥

O Lord! I have forsaken all other doors and have caught hold of only Thy door. O Lord! Thou has caught hold of my arm

ਬਾਂਹਿ ਗਹੇ ਕੀ ਲਾਜ ਅਸ ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਦਾਸ ਤੁਹਾਰ ॥੮੬੪॥

baanhi gahe kee laaj as gobind daas tuhaar |864|

I, Govind, am Thy serf, kindly take (care of me and) protect my honour.864.

anand bheaa meree maae satiguroo mai paaeaa |

I am in ecstasy, O my mother, for I have found my True Guru.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜ ਸੇਤੀ ਮਨਿ ਵਜੀਆ ਵਾਧਾਈਆ ॥

satigur ta paaeaa sehaj setee man vajeea vaadhaaeea |

I have found the True Guru, with intuitive ease, and my mind vibrates with the music of bliss.

ਰਾਗ ਰਤਨ ਪਰਵਾਰ ਪਰੀਆ ਸਬਦ ਗਾਵਣ ਆਈਆ ॥

raag ratan paravaar pareea sabad gaavan aaeea |

The jewelled melodies and their related celestial harmonies have come to sing the Word of the Shabad.

ਸਬਦੋ ਤ ਗਾਵਹੁ ਹਰੀ ਕੇਰਾ ਮਨਿ ਜਿਨੀ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥

sabado ta gaavahu haree keraa man jinee vasaaeaa |

The Lord dwells within the minds of those who sing the Shabad.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਅਨੰਦੁ ਹੋਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਮੈ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

kahai naanak anand hoaa satiguroo mai paaeaa |1|

Says Nanak, I am in ecstasy, for I have found my True Guru. ||1||

ਏ ਮਨ ਮੇਰਿਆ ਤੂ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲੇ ॥

e man meriaa too sadaa rahu har naale |

O my mind, remain always with the Lord.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲਿ ਰਹੁ ਤੂ ਮੰਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਦੂਖ ਸਭਿ ਵਿਸਾਰਣਾ ॥

har naal rahu too man mere dookh sabh visaaranaa |

Remain always with the Lord, O my mind, and all sufferings will be forgotten.

ਅੰਗੀਕਾਰੁ ਓਹੁ ਕਰੇ ਤੇਰਾ ਕਾਰਜ ਸਭਿ ਸਵਾਰਣਾ ॥

angeekaar ohu kare teraa kaaraj sabh savaaranaa |

He will accept You as His own, and all your affairs will be perfectly arranged.

ਸਭਨਾ ਗਲਾ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਸੋ ਕਿਉ ਮਨਹੁ ਵਿਸਾਰੇ ॥

sabhanaa galaa samarath suaamee so kiau manahu visaare |

Our Lord and Master is all-powerful to do all things, so why forget Him from your mind?

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਮੰਨ ਮੇਰੇ ਸਦਾ ਰਹੁ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਲੇ ॥੨॥

kahai naanak man mere sadaa rahu har naale |2|

Says Nanak, O my mind, remain always with the Lord. ||2||

ਸਾਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬਾ ਕਿਆ ਨਾਹੀ ਘਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ॥

saache saahibaa kiaa naahee ghar terai |

O my True Lord and Master, what is there which is not in Your celestial home?

ਘਰਿ ਤ ਤੇਰੈ ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਦੇਹਿ ਸੁ ਪਾਵਏ ॥

ghar ta terai sabh kichh hai jis dehi su paave |

Everything is in Your home; they receive, unto whom You give.

ਸਦਾ ਸਿਫਤਿ ਸਲਾਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਾਵਏ ॥

sadaa sifat salaah teree naam man vasaave |

Constantly singing Your Praises and Glories, Your Name is enshrined in the mind.

ਨਾਮੁ ਜਿਨ ਕੈ ਮਨਿ ਵਸਿਆ ਵਾਜੇ ਸਬਦ ਘਨੇਰੇ ॥

naam jin kai man vasiaa vaaje sabad ghanere |

The divine melody of the Shabad vibrates for those, within whose minds the Naam abides.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸਚੇ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕਿਆ ਨਾਹੀ ਘਰਿ ਤੇਰੈ ॥੩॥

kahai naanak sache saahib kiaa naahee ghar terai |3|

Says Nanak, O my True Lord and Master, what is there which is not in Your home? ||3||

ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਧਾਰੋ ॥

saachaa naam meraa aadhaaro |

The True Name is my only support.

ਸਾਚੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਅਧਾਰੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਜਿਨਿ ਭੁਖਾ ਸਭਿ ਗਵਾਈਆ ॥

saach naam adhaar meraa jin bhukhaa sabh gavaaeea |

The True Name is my only support; it satisfies all hunger.

ਕਰਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਸੁਖ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ਵਸਿਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਇਛਾ ਸਭਿ ਪੁਜਾਈਆ ॥

kar saant sukh man aae vasiaa jin ichhaa sabh pujaaeea |

It has brought peace and tranquility to my mind; it has fulfilled all my desires.

ਸਦਾ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੁ ਕੀਤਾ ਗੁਰੂ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਜਿਸ ਦੀਆ ਏਹਿ ਵਡਿਆਈਆ ॥

sadaa kurabaan keetaa guroo vittahu jis deea ehi vaddiaaeea |

I am forever a sacrifice to the Guru, who possesses such glorious greatness.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਸੰਤਹੁ ਸਬਦਿ ਧਰਹੁ ਪਿਆਰੋ ॥

kahai naanak sunahu santahu sabad dharahu piaaro |

Says Nanak, listen, O Saints; enshrine love for the Shabad.

ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਮੇਰਾ ਆਧਾਰੋ ॥੪॥

saachaa naam meraa aadhaaro |4|

The True Name is my only support. ||4||

ਵਾਜੇ ਪੰਚ ਸਬਦ ਤਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਸਭਾਗੈ ॥

vaaje panch sabad tith ghar sabhaagai |

The Panch Shabad, the five primal sounds, vibrate in that blessed house.

ਘਰਿ ਸਭਾਗੈ ਸਬਦ ਵਾਜੇ ਕਲਾ ਜਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਧਾਰੀਆ ॥

ghar sabhaagai sabad vaaje kalaa jit ghar dhaareea |

In that blessed house, the Shabad vibrates; He infuses His almighty power into it.

ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਤੁਧੁ ਵਸਿ ਕੀਤੇ ਕਾਲੁ ਕੰਟਕੁ ਮਾਰਿਆ ॥

panch doot tudh vas keete kaal kanttak maariaa |

Through You, we subdue the five demons of desire, and slay Death, the torturer.

ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਮਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਤੁਧੁ ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਸਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਹਰਿ ਕੈ ਲਾਗੇ ॥

dhur karam paaeaa tudh jin kau si naam har kai laage |

Those who have such pre-ordained destiny are attached to the Lord's Name.

ਕਹੈ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਹ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਆ ਤਿਤੁ ਘਰਿ ਅਨਹਦ ਵਾਜੇ ॥੫॥

kahai naanak teh sukh hoaa tith ghar anahad vaaje |5|

Says Nanak, they are at peace, and the unstruck sound current vibrates within their homes. ||5||

ਅਨਦੁ ਸੁਣਹੁ ਵਡਭਾਗੀਹੋ ਸਗਲ ਮਨੋਰਥ ਪੂਰੇ ॥

anad sunahu vaddabhaageeho sagal manorath poore |

Listen to the song of bliss, O most fortunate ones; all your longings shall be fulfilled.

ਪਾਰਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਉਤਰੇ ਸਗਲ ਵਿਸੂਰੇ ॥

paarabraham prabh paaeaa utare sagal visoore |

I have obtained the Supreme Lord God, and all sorrows have been forgotten.

ਦੂਖ ਰੋਗ ਸੰਤਾਪ ਉਤਰੇ ਸੁਣੀ ਸਚੀ ਬਾਣੀ ॥

dookh rog santaap utare sunee sachee baanee |

Pain, illness and suffering have departed, listening to the True Bani.

ਸੰਤ ਸਾਜਨ ਭਏ ਸਰਸੇ ਪੂਰੇ ਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਜਾਣੀ ॥

sant saajan bhe sarase poore gur te jaanee |

The Saints and their friends are in ecstasy, knowing the Perfect Guru.

ਸੁਣਤੇ ਪੁਨੀਤ ਕਹਤੇ ਪਵਿਤੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਰਹਿਆ ਭਰਪੂਰੇ ॥

sunate puneet kahate pavit satigur rahiaa bharapoore |

Pure are the listeners, and pure are the speakers; the True Guru is all-pervading and permeating.

ਬਿਨਵੰਤਿ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣ ਲਾਗੇ ਵਾਜੇ ਅਨਹਦ ਤੂਰੇ ॥੪੦॥੧॥

binavant naanak gur charan laage vaaje anahad toore |40|1|

Prays Nanak, touching the Guru's Feet, the unstruck sound current of the celestial bugles vibrates and resounds. ||40||1||

ਮੁੰਦਾਵਣੀ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Mundaavanee, Fifth Mehl:

ਥਾਲ ਵਿਚਿ ਤਿੰਨਿ ਵਸਤੂ ਪਈਓ ਸਤੁ ਸੰਤੋਖੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੋ ॥

thaal vich tin vasatoo peeo sat santokh veechaaro |

Upon this Plate, three things have been placed: Truth, Contentment and Contemplation.

ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਠਾਕੁਰ ਕਾ ਪਇਓ ਜਿਸ ਕਾ ਸਭਸੁ ਅਧਾਰੋ ॥

amrit naam tthaakur kaa peo jis kaa sabhas adhaaro |

The Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, the Name of our Lord and Master, has been placed upon it as well; it is the Support of all.

ਜੇ ਕੋ ਖਾਵੈ ਜੇ ਕੋ ਭੁੰਚੈ ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਹੋਇ ਉਧਾਰੋ ॥

je ko khaavai je ko bhunchai tis kaa hoe udhaaro |

One who eats it and enjoys it shall be saved.

ਏਹ ਵਸਤੁ ਤਜੀ ਨਹ ਜਾਈ ਨਿਤ ਨਿਤ ਰਖੁ ਉਰਿ ਧਾਰੋ ॥

eeh vasat tajee neh jaaee nit nit rakh ur dhaaro |

This thing can never be forsaken; keep this always and forever in your mind.

ਤਮ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਚਰਨ ਲਗਿ ਤਰੀਐ ਸਭੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਬ੍ਰਹਮ ਪਸਾਰੋ ॥੧॥

tam sansaar charan lag tareeai sabh naanak braham pasaaro |1|

The dark world-ocean is crossed over, by grasping the Feet of the Lord; O Nanak, it is all the extension of God. ||1||

Salok, Fifth Mehl:

ਤੇਰਾ ਕੀਤਾ ਜਾਤੋ ਨਾਹੀ ਮੈਨੋ ਜੋਗੁ ਕੀਤੋਈ ॥

teraa keetaa jaato naahee maino jog keetoee |

I have not appreciated what You have done for me, Lord; only You can make me worthy.

ਮੈ ਨਿਰਗੁਣਿਆਰੇ ਕੋ ਗੁਣੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਆਪੇ ਤਰਸੁ ਪਇਓਈ ॥

mai niraguniaare ko gun naahee aape taras peoee |

I am unworthy - I have no worth or virtues at all. You have taken pity on me.

ਤਰਸੁ ਪਇਆ ਮਿਹਰਾਮਤਿ ਹੋਈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਜਣੁ ਮਿਲਿਆ ॥

taras peaa miharaamat hoee satigur sajan miliaa |

You took pity on me, and blessed me with Your Mercy, and I have met the True Guru, my Friend.

ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵਾਂ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਥੀਵੈ ਹਰਿਆ ॥੧॥

naanak naam milai taan jeevaan tan man theevai hariaa |1|

O Nanak, if I am blessed with the Naam, I live, and my body and mind blossom forth. ||1||

ਤਿਥੈ ਤੂ ਸਮਰਥੁ ਜਿਥੈ ਕੋਇ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

tithai too samarath jithai koe naeh |

Where You are, Almighty Lord, there is no one else.

ਓਥੈ ਤੇਰੀ ਰਖ ਅਗਨੀ ਉਦਰ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

othai teree rakh aganee udar maeh |

There, in the fire of the mother's womb, You protected us.

ਸੁਣਿ ਕੈ ਜਮ ਕੇ ਦੂਤ ਨਾਇ ਤੇਰੈ ਛਡਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

sun kai jam ke doot naae terai chhadd jaeh |

Hearing Your Name, the Messenger of Death runs away.

ਭਉਜਲੁ ਬਿਖਮੁ ਅਸਗਾਹੁ ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਪਾਰਿ ਪਾਹਿ ॥

bhaujal bikham asagaahu gurasabadee paar paeh |

The terrifying, treacherous, impassible world-ocean is crossed over, through the Word of the Guru's Shabad.

ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਲਗੀ ਪਿਆਸ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਸੇਇ ਖਾਹਿ ॥

jin kau lagee piaas amrit see khaeh |

Those who feel thirst for You, take in Your Ambrosial Nectar.

ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਏਹੋ ਪੁੰਨੁ ਗੁਣ ਗੋਵਿੰਦ ਗਾਹਿ ॥

kal meh eho pun gun govind gaeh |

This is the only act of goodness in this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, to sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord of the Universe.

ਸਭਸੈ ਨੋ ਕਿਰਪਾਲੁ ਸਮੑਾਲੇ ਸਾਹਿ ਸਾਹਿ ॥

sabhasai no kirapaal samaale saeh saeh |

He is Merciful to all; He sustains us with each and every breath.

ਬਿਰਥਾ ਕੋਇ ਨ ਜਾਇ ਜਿ ਆਵੈ ਤੁਧੁ ਆਹਿ ॥੯॥

birathaa koe na jaae ji aavai tudh aaeh |9|

Those who come to You with love and faith are never turned away empty-handed. ||9||

ਸਲੋਕੁ ਮਃ ੫ ॥

Salok, Fifth Mehl:

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਗੁਰੁ ਆਰਾਧਣਾ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਜਪਿ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਉ ॥

antar gur aaraadhanaa jihavaa jap gur naau |

Deep within yourself, worship the Guru in adoration, and with your tongue, chant the Guru's Name.

ਨੇਤ੍ਰੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੇਖਣਾ ਸ੍ਰਵਣੀ ਸੁਨਣਾ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਉ ॥

netree satigur pekhanaa sravanee sunanaa gur naau |

Let your eyes behold the True Guru, and let your ears hear the Guru's Name.

ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਤੀ ਰਤਿਆ ਦਰਗਹ ਪਾਈਐ ਠਾਉ ॥

satigur setee ratiaa daragah paaeeai tthaau |

Attuned to the True Guru, you shall receive a place of honor in the Court of the Lord.

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਏਹ ਵਥੁ ਦੇਇ ॥

kahu naanak kirapaa kare jis no eeh vath dee |

Says Nanak, this treasure is bestowed on those who are blessed with His Mercy.

ਜਗ ਮਹਿ ਉਤਮ ਕਾਢੀਅਹਿ ਵਿਰਲੇ ਕੇਈ ਕੇਇ ॥੧॥

jag meh utam kaadteeeh virale keee kee |1|

In the midst of the world, they are known as the most pious - they are rare indeed. ||1||

Fifth Mehl:

ਰਖੇ ਰਖਣਹਾਰਿ ਆਪਿ ਉਬਾਰਿਅਨੁ ॥

rakhe rakhanahaar aap ubaarian |

O Savior Lord, save us and take us across.

ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਪੈਰੀ ਪਾਇ ਕਾਜ ਸਵਾਰਿਅਨੁ ॥

gur kee pairee paae kaaj savaarian |

Falling at the feet of the Guru, our works are embellished with perfection.

ਹੋਆ ਆਪਿ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਮਨਹੁ ਨ ਵਿਸਾਰਿਅਨੁ ॥

hoaa aap deaal manahu na visaarian |

You have become kind, merciful and compassionate; we do not forget You from our minds.

ਸਾਧ ਜਨਾ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਭਵਜਲੁ ਤਾਰਿਅਨੁ ॥

saadh janaa kai sang bhavajal taarian |

In the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, we are carried across the terrifying world-ocean.

ਸਾਕਤ ਨਿੰਦਕ ਦੁਸਟ ਖਿਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਬਿਦਾਰਿਅਨੁ ॥

saakat nindak dusatt khin maeh bidaarian |

In an instant, You have destroyed the faithless cynics and slanderous enemies.

ਤਿਸੁ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨੈ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

tis saahib kee ttek naanak manai maeh |

That Lord and Master is my Anchor and Support; O Nanak, hold firm in your mind.

ਜਿਸੁ ਸਿਮਰਤ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਜਾਹਿ ॥੨॥

jis simarat sukh hoe sagale dookh jaeh |2|

Remembering Him in meditation, happiness comes, and all sorrows and pains simply vanish. ||2||
