ਇਕ ਦਿਹਾੜੇ ਨਾਵਣ ਆਈ ਦੁਰਗਸਾਹ ॥

eik dihaarre naavan aaee duragasaah |

One day Durga came for a bath.

ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਬਿਰਥਾ ਸੁਣਾਈ ਅਪਣੇ ਹਾਲ ਦੀ ॥

eindr birathaa sunaaee apane haal dee |

Indra related to her the story agony:

ਛੀਨ ਲਈ ਠਕੁਰਾਈ ਸਾਤੇ ਦਾਨਵੀ ॥

chheen lee tthakuraaee saate daanavee |

“The demons have seized from us our kingdom."

ਲੋਕੀ ਤਿਹੀ ਫਿਰਾਈ ਦੋਹੀ ਆਪਣੀ ॥

lokee tihee firaaee dohee aapanee |

“They have proclaimed their authority over all the three worlds."

ਬੈਠੇ ਵਾਇ ਵਧਾਈ ਤੇ ਅਮਰਾਵਤੀ ॥

baitthe vaae vadhaaee te amaraavatee |

“They have played musical instruments in their rejoicings in Amaravati, the city of gods."

ਦਿਤੇ ਦੇਵ ਭਜਾਈ ਸਭਨਾ ਰਾਕਸਾਂ ॥

dite dev bhajaaee sabhanaa raakasaan |

“All the demons have caused the flight of the gods."

ਕਿਨੇ ਨ ਜਿਤਾ ਜਾਈ ਮਹਖੇ ਦੈਤ ਨੂੰ ॥

kine na jitaa jaaee mahakhe dait noo |

“None hath gone and conquered Mahikha, the demon."

ਤੇਰੀ ਸਾਮ ਤਕਾਈ ਦੇਵੀ ਦੁਰਗਸਾਹ ॥੪॥

teree saam takaaee devee duragasaah |4|

“O goddess Durga, I have come under Thy refuge.”4.
