ਧਰਤੀ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਬਿਰਖੁ ਹੋਇ ਪਹਿਲੋਂ ਦੇ ਜੜ ਪੈਰ ਟਿਕਾਈ ।

dharatee andar birakh hoe pahilon de jarr pair ttikaaee |

Tree grows on earth and first of all it sets its feet into the earth.

ਉਪਰਿ ਝੂਲੈ ਝਟੁਲਾ ਠੰਢੀ ਛਾਉਂ ਸੁ ਥਾਉਂ ਸੁਹਾਈ ।

aupar jhoolai jhattulaa tthandtee chhaaun su thaaun suhaaee |

People enjoy swinging over it and its cool shade adorns places.

ਪਵਣੁ ਪਾਣੀ ਪਾਲਾ ਸਹੈ ਸਿਰ ਤਲਵਾਇਆ ਨਿਹਚਲੁ ਜਾਈ ।

pavan paanee paalaa sahai sir talavaaeaa nihachal jaaee |

It bears the impact of air, water and cold but still keeping its head inverse, it remains steadfast at its place.

ਫਲੁ ਦੇ ਵਟ ਵਗਾਇਆਂ ਸਿਰਿ ਕਲਵਤੁ ਲੈ ਲੋਹੁ ਤਰਾਈ ।

fal de vatt vagaaeaan sir kalavat lai lohu taraaee |

When stoned, it gives fruit and even getting cut with the sawing machine it takes iron (in boats) across waters.

ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਜਨਮੁ ਸਕਾਰਥਾ ਪਰਉਪਕਾਰੀ ਸਹਜਿ ਸੁਭਾਈ ।

guramukh janam sakaarathaa praupakaaree sehaj subhaaee |

Life of gurmukhs is useful because by their natural temperament they are altruists.

ਮਿਤ੍ਰ ਨ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਨ ਮੋਹੁ ਧ੍ਰੋਹੁ ਸਮਦਰਸੀ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦਿ ਸਮਾਈ ।

mitr na satru na mohu dhrohu samadarasee gur sabad samaaee |

They have no friend or foe. Away from infatuation and delusion they are unbiased and immersed in the word of the Guru.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ।੪।

saadhasangat guramat vaddiaaee |4|

Their grandness they attain through the wisdom of the Guru and the company of the holy persons.
