ਭੈਰਉ ਮਹਲਾ ੧ ॥

Bhairao, First Mehl:
ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਰਹੈ ਦਿਨੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਰਾਮੁ ਰਸਨਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਰਾਤਾ ॥
gur kai sang rahai din raatee raam rasan rang raataa |
He remains with the Guru, day and night, and his tongue savors the savory taste of the Lord's Love.
ਅਵਰੁ ਨ ਜਾਣਸਿ ਸਬਦੁ ਪਛਾਣਸਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਾਣਿ ਪਛਾਤਾ ॥੧॥
avar na jaanas sabad pachhaanas antar jaan pachhaataa |1|
He does not know any other; he realizes the Word of the Shabad. He knows and realizes the Lord deep within his own being. ||1||
ਸੋ ਜਨੁ ਐਸਾ ਮੈ ਮਨਿ ਭਾਵੈ ॥
so jan aisaa mai man bhaavai |
Such a humble person is pleasing to my mind.
ਆਪੁ ਮਾਰਿ ਅਪਰੰਪਰਿ ਰਾਤਾ ਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
aap maar aparanpar raataa gur kee kaar kamaavai |1| rahaau |
He conquers his self-conceit, and is imbued with the Infinite Lord. He serves the Guru. ||1||Pause||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰੰਜਨੁ ਆਦਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਆਦੇਸੋ ॥
antar baahar purakh niranjan aad purakh aadeso |
Deep within my being, and outside as well, is the Immaculate Lord God. I bow humbly before that Primal Lord God.
ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਰਬ ਨਿਰੰਤਰਿ ਰਵਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਸਚੁ ਵੇਸੋ ॥੨॥
ghatt ghatt antar sarab nirantar rav rahiaa sach veso |2|
Deep within each and every heart, and amidst all, the Embodiment of Truth is permeating and pervading. ||2||
ਸਾਚਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਚੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਜਿਹਵਾ ਮਿਥਿਆ ਮੈਲੁ ਨ ਰਾਈ ॥
saach rate sach amrit jihavaa mithiaa mail na raaee |
Those who are imbued with Truth - their tongues are tinged with Truth; they do not have even an iota of the filth of falsehood.
ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਰਸੁ ਚਾਖਿਆ ਸਬਦਿ ਰਤੇ ਪਤਿ ਪਾਈ ॥੩॥
niramal naam amrit ras chaakhiaa sabad rate pat paaee |3|
They taste the sweet Ambrosial Nectar of the Immaculate Naam, the Name of the Lord; imbued with the Shabad, they are blessed with honor. ||3||
ਗੁਣੀ ਗੁਣੀ ਮਿਲਿ ਲਾਹਾ ਪਾਵਸਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਾਈ ॥
gunee gunee mil laahaa paavas guramukh naam vaddaaee |
The virtuous meet with the virtuous, and earn the profit; as Gurmukh, they obtain the glorious greatness of the Naam.
ਸਗਲੇ ਦੂਖ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੪॥੫॥੬॥
sagale dookh mitteh gur sevaa naanak naam sakhaaee |4|5|6|
All sorrows are erased, by serving the Guru; O Nanak, the Naam is our only Friend and Companion. ||4||5||6||
