ਅਸਟਪਦੀ ॥

Ashtapadee:

ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕੀ ਟੇਕ ਬ੍ਰਿਥੀ ਸਭ ਜਾਨੁ ॥

maanukh kee ttek brithee sabh jaan |

Reliance on mortals is in vain - know this well.

ਦੇਵਨ ਕਉ ਏਕੈ ਭਗਵਾਨੁ ॥

devan kau ekai bhagavaan |

The Great Giver is the One Lord God.

ਜਿਸ ਕੈ ਦੀਐ ਰਹੈ ਅਘਾਇ ॥

jis kai deeai rahai aghaae |

By His gifts, we are satisfied,

ਬਹੁਰਿ ਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਸਨਾ ਲਾਗੈ ਆਇ ॥

bahur na trisanaa laagai aae |

and we suffer from thirst no longer.

ਮਾਰੈ ਰਾਖੈ ਏਕੋ ਆਪਿ ॥

maarai raakhai eko aap |

The One Lord Himself destroys and also preserves.

ਮਾਨੁਖ ਕੈ ਕਿਛੁ ਨਾਹੀ ਹਾਥਿ ॥

maanukh kai kichh naahee haath |

Nothing at all is in the hands of mortal beings.

ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਬੂਝਿ ਸੁਖੁ ਹੋਇ ॥

tis kaa hukam boojh sukh hoe |

Understanding His Order, there is peace.

ਤਿਸ ਕਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਰਖੁ ਕੰਠਿ ਪਰੋਇ ॥

tis kaa naam rakh kantth paroe |

So take His Name, and wear it as your necklace.

ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਸਿਮਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸੋਇ ॥

simar simar simar prabh soe |

Remember, remember, remember God in meditation.

ਨਾਨਕ ਬਿਘਨੁ ਨ ਲਾਗੈ ਕੋਇ ॥੧॥

naanak bighan na laagai koe |1|

O Nanak, no obstacle shall stand in your way. ||1||
