ਦਿਨ ਤੇ ਪਹਰ ਪਹਰ ਤੇ ਘਰੀਆਂ ਆਵ ਘਟੈ ਤਨੁ ਛੀਜੈ ॥

din te pehar pehar te ghareean aav ghattai tan chheejai |

Day by day, hour by hour, life runs its course, and the body withers away.

ਕਾਲੁ ਅਹੇਰੀ ਫਿਰੈ ਬਧਿਕ ਜਿਉ ਕਹਹੁ ਕਵਨ ਬਿਧਿ ਕੀਜੈ ॥੧॥

kaal aheree firai badhik jiau kahahu kavan bidh keejai |1|

Death, like a hunter, a butcher, is on the prowl; tell me, what can we do? ||1||

ਸੋ ਦਿਨੁ ਆਵਨ ਲਾਗਾ ॥

so din aavan laagaa |

That day is rapidly approaching.

ਮਾਤ ਪਿਤਾ ਭਾਈ ਸੁਤ ਬਨਿਤਾ ਕਹਹੁ ਕੋਊ ਹੈ ਕਾ ਕਾ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

maat pitaa bhaaee sut banitaa kahahu koaoo hai kaa kaa |1| rahaau |

Mother, father, siblings, children and spouse - tell me, who belongs to whom? ||1||Pause||

ਜਬ ਲਗੁ ਜੋਤਿ ਕਾਇਆ ਮਹਿ ਬਰਤੈ ਆਪਾ ਪਸੂ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ॥

jab lag jot kaaeaa meh baratai aapaa pasoo na boojhai |

As long as the light remains in the body, the beast does not understand himself.

ਲਾਲਚ ਕਰੈ ਜੀਵਨ ਪਦ ਕਾਰਨ ਲੋਚਨ ਕਛੂ ਨ ਸੂਝੈ ॥੨॥

laalach karai jeevan pad kaaran lochan kachhoo na soojhai |2|

He acts in greed to maintain his life and status, and sees nothing with his eyes. ||2||

ਕਹਤ ਕਬੀਰ ਸੁਨਹੁ ਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਛੋਡਹੁ ਮਨ ਕੇ ਭਰਮਾ ॥

kehat kabeer sunahu re praanee chhoddahu man ke bharamaa |

Says Kabeer, listen, O mortal: Renounce the doubts of your mind.

ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪਹੁ ਰੇ ਪ੍ਰਾਨੀ ਪਰਹੁ ਏਕ ਕੀ ਸਰਨਾਂ ॥੩॥੨॥

keval naam japahu re praanee parahu ek kee saranaan |3|2|

Chant only the One Naam, the Name of the Lord, O mortal, and seek the Sanctuary of the One Lord. ||3||2||
