ਮਿਲੈ ਜਿ ਤੀਰਥਿ ਨਾਤਿਆਂ ਡਡਾਂ ਜਲ ਵਾਸੀ ।

milai ji teerath naatiaan ddaddaan jal vaasee |

If one could attain liberation by taking bath at pilgrimage centres then (we know that) the frogs always live in water.

ਵਾਲ ਵਧਾਇਆਂ ਪਾਈਐ ਬੜ ਜਟਾਂ ਪਲਾਸੀ ।

vaal vadhaaeaan paaeeai barr jattaan palaasee |

If growing long hair could make it available then the banyan has long roots hanging from it.

ਨੰਗੇ ਰਹਿਆਂ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਵਣਿ ਮਿਰਗ ਉਦਾਸੀ ।

nange rahiaan je milai van mirag udaasee |

If going naked gets it, all the deer in the forest can be called detached ones.

ਭਸਮ ਲਾਇ ਜੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਖਰੁ ਖੇਹ ਨਿਵਾਸੀ ।

bhasam laae je paaeeai khar kheh nivaasee |

If it is attained by smearing ashes on body, the ass always rolls in dust.

ਜੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਚੁਪ ਕੀਤਿਆਂ ਪਸੂਆਂ ਜੜ ਹਾਸੀ ।

je paaeeai chup keetiaan pasooaan jarr haasee |

If muteness could bring it, the animals and inert objects are certainly speechless.

ਵਿਣੁ ਗੁਰ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਗੁਰ ਮਿਲੈ ਖਲਾਸੀ ।੧੪।

vin gur mukat na hovee gur milai khalaasee |14|

No liberation is attained without Guru and bondages are shattered only after meeting the Guru.
