ਭੁਜੰਗ ਪ੍ਰਯਾਤ ਛੰਦ ॥

BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

ਬੁਲਯੋ ਚਤ੍ਰ ਭ੍ਰਾਤੰ ਸੁਮਿਤ੍ਰਾ ਕੁਮਾਰੰ ॥

bulayo chatr bhraatan sumitraa kumaaran |

ਕਰਯੋ ਮਾਥੁਰੇਸੰ ਤਿਸੇ ਰਾਵਣਾਰੰ ॥

karayo maathuresan tise raavanaaran |

One day Ram sent for the son of Sumitra and said to him :

ਤਹਾ ਏਕ ਦਈਤੰ ਲਵੰ ਉਗ੍ਰ ਤੇਜੰ ॥

tahaa ek deetan lavan ugr tejan |

ਦਯੋ ਤਾਹਿ ਅਪੰ ਸਿਵੰ ਸੂਲ ਭੇਜੰ ॥੭੦੮॥

dayo taeh apan sivan sool bhejan |708|

In a distant land there lives a huge demon named Lavan, who has got the trident of Shiva,708.

ਪਠਯੋ ਤੀਰ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੰ ਦੀਯੋ ਏਕ ਰਾਮੰ ॥

patthayo teer mantran deeyo ek raaman |

ਮਹਾ ਜੁਧ ਮਾਲੀ ਮਹਾ ਧਰਮ ਧਾਮੰ ॥

mahaa judh maalee mahaa dharam dhaaman |

Ram gave him an arrow after reciting a mantra which was a great weapon from Ram, the abode of Dharma.

ਸਿਵੰ ਸੂਲ ਹੀਣੰ ਜਵੈ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਜਾਨਯੋ ॥

sivan sool heenan javai satr jaanayo |

ਤਬੈ ਸੰਗਿ ਤਾ ਕੈ ਮਹਾ ਜੁਧ ਠਾਨਯੋ ॥੭੦੯॥

tabai sang taa kai mahaa judh tthaanayo |709|

Ram said to him “When you see the enemy without the trident of Shiva, then wage a war with him.”709.

ਲਯੋ ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਤੀਰੰ ਚਲਯੋ ਨਿਆਇ ਸੀਸੰ ॥

layo mantr teeran chalayo niaae seesan |

ਤ੍ਰਿਪੁਰ ਜੁਧ ਜੇਤਾ ਚਲਯੋ ਜਾਣ ਈਸੰ ॥

tripur judh jetaa chalayo jaan eesan |

Shatrughan taking that charmed arrows and bowing his head started for his errand and it seemed that he was going as conquerer of the three worlds

ਲਖਯੋ ਸੂਲ ਹੀਣੰ ਰਿਪੰ ਜਉਣ ਕਾਲੰ ॥

lakhayo sool heenan ripan jaun kaalan |

ਤਬੈ ਕੋਪ ਮੰਡਯੋ ਰਣੰ ਬਿਕਰਾਲੰ ॥੭੧੦॥

tabai kop manddayo ranan bikaraalan |710|

When he saw the enemy without the trident of Shiva, then finding an opportunity, he furiously began to wage war with him.710.

ਭਜੈ ਘਾਇ ਖਾਯੰ ਅਗਾਯੰਤ ਸੂਰੰ ॥

bhajai ghaae khaayan agaayant sooran |

ਹਸੇ ਕੰਕ ਬੰਕੰ ਘੁਮੀ ਗੈਣ ਹੂਰੰ ॥

hase kank bankan ghumee gain hooran |

After getting wounded the warriors began to run away and the crows began to caw o seeing the corpse. The heavenly damsels began to wander in the sky

ਉਠੇ ਟੋਪ ਟੁਕੰ ਕਮਾਣੰ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੇ ॥

autthe ttop ttukan kamaanan prahaare |

ਰਣੰ ਰੋਸ ਰਜੇ ਮਹਾ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰੇ ॥੭੧੧॥

ranan ros raje mahaa chhatr dhaare |711|

The helmets broke with the blow of arrows and the great sovereigns were highly enraged in the battlefield.711.

ਫਿਰਯੋ ਅਪ ਦਈਤੰ ਮਹਾ ਰੋਸ ਕੈ ਕੈ ॥

firayo ap deetan mahaa ros kai kai |

ਹਣੇ ਰਾਮ ਭ੍ਰਾਤੰ ਵਹੈ ਬਾਣ ਲੈ ਕੈ ॥

hane raam bhraatan vahai baan lai kai |

That demon in great rage revolved and showered a volley of arrows on the brother of Ram

ਰਿਪੰ ਨਾਸ ਹੇਤੰ ਦੀਯੋ ਰਾਮ ਅਪੰ ॥

ripan naas hetan deeyo raam apan |

ਹਣਿਯੋ ਤਾਹਿ ਸੀਸੰ ਦ੍ਰੁਗਾ ਜਾਪ ਜਪੰ ॥੭੧੨॥

haniyo taeh seesan drugaa jaap japan |712|

The arrows which was given by Ram for the destruction of the enemy, Shatrughan discharged it on the demon, repeating the name of Durga.712.

ਗਿਰਯੋ ਝੂਮ ਭੂਮੰ ਅਘੂਮਯੋ ਅਰਿ ਘਾਯੰ ॥

girayo jhoom bhooman aghoomayo ar ghaayan |

ਹਣਯੋ ਸਤ੍ਰ ਹੰਤਾ ਤਿਸੈ ਚਉਪ ਚਾਯੰ ॥

hanayo satr hantaa tisai chaup chaayan |

The enemy received a wounded and while revolving, he fell down on the earth and he was killed by Shatrughan

ਗਣੰ ਦੇਵ ਹਰਖੇ ਪ੍ਰਬਰਖੰਤ ਫੂਲੰ ॥

ganan dev harakhe prabarakhant foolan |

The gods were overjoyed in the sky and began to shower floweres

ਹਤਯੋ ਦੈਤ ਦ੍ਰੋਹੀ ਮਿਟਯੋ ਸਰਬ ਸੂਲੰ ॥੭੧੩॥

hatayo dait drohee mittayo sarab soolan |713|

With the killing of this malignant demon, all their agony ended.713.

ਲਵੰ ਨਾਸੁਰੈਯੰ ਲਵੰ ਕੀਨ ਨਾਸੰ ॥

lavan naasuraiyan lavan keen naasan |

All the saints were delighted with the destruction of the demon named Lavan

ਸਭੈ ਸੰਤ ਹਰਖੇ ਰਿਪੰ ਭੇ ਉਦਾਸੰ ॥

sabhai sant harakhe ripan bhe udaasan |

The enemies became depressed,

ਭਜੈ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਲੈ ਲੈ ਤਜਯੋ ਨਗਰ ਬਾਸੰ ॥

bhajai praan lai lai tajayo nagar baasan |

And fled away after forsaking the city

ਕਰਯੋ ਮਾਥੁਰੇਸੰ ਪੁਰੀਵਾ ਨਵਾਸੰ ॥੭੧੪॥

karayo maathuresan pureevaa navaasan |714|

Shatrughan stayed in the city of Mathura.714.

ਭਯੋ ਮਾਥੁਰੇਸੰ ਲਵੰਨਾਸ੍ਰ ਹੰਤਾ ॥

bhayo maathuresan lavanaasr hantaa |

ਸਭੈ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਗਾਮੀ ਸੁਭੰ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਗੰਤਾ ॥

sabhai sasatr gaamee subhan sasatr gantaa |

After destroying Lavan, Shatrughan ruled over Mathura and all the weapon-wielders gave the blessings of good wishes to him.

ਭਏ ਦੁਸਟ ਦੂਰੰ ਕਰੂਰੰ ਸੁ ਠਾਮੰ ॥

bhe dusatt dooran karooran su tthaaman |

ਕਰਯੋ ਰਾਜ ਤੈਸੋ ਜਿਮੰ ਅਉਧ ਰਾਮੰ ॥੭੧੫॥

karayo raaj taiso jiman aaudh raaman |715|

He ended all the tyrants and ruled over Mathura like Ram ruling over Avadh.715.

ਕਰਿਯੋ ਦੁਸਟ ਨਾਸੰ ਪਪਾਤੰਤ ਸੂਰੰ ॥

kariyo dusatt naasan papaatant sooran |

ਉਠੀ ਜੈ ਧੁਨੰ ਪੁਰ ਰਹੀ ਲੋਗ ਪੂਰੰ ॥

autthee jai dhunan pur rahee log pooran |

On destroying the tyrant, the people of all directions hailed Shatrughan his fame spread in all the directions nicely

ਗਈ ਪਾਰ ਸਿੰਧੰ ਸੁ ਬਿੰਧੰ ਪ੍ਰਹਾਰੰ ॥

gee paar sindhan su bindhan prahaaran |

ਸੁਨਿਯੋ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਚਾਰੰ ਲਵੰ ਲਾਵਣਾਰੰ ॥੭੧੬॥

suniyo chakr chaaran lavan laavanaaran |716|

And the people came to know with great zeal that demon Lavan had been killed.716.
