ਕੋ ਹੈ ਰੇ ਤੈ ਕਹ ਚਲਾ ਹ︀ਯਾਂ ਆਯੋ ਕਿਹ ਕਾਜ ॥

ko hai re tai keh chalaa hayaan aayo kih kaaj |

The watchmen asked who was he and where was he going.

ਯਹ ਤਿਹ ਬਾਤ ਨ ਸਹਿ ਸਕ︀ਯੋ ਚਲਾ ਤੁਰਤੁ ਦੈ ਭਾਜ ॥੮॥

yeh tih baat na seh sakayo chalaa turat dai bhaaj |8|

He could not reply and started to run away.(8) .

ਤਿਨੈ ਹਟਾਵੈ ਜ੍ਵਾਬ ਦੈ ਚੇਰੀ ਹੁਤੀ ਨ ਸਾਥ ॥

tinai hattaavai jvaab dai cheree hutee na saath |

If the maid were with him, she would have replied.

ਧਾਇ ਪਰੇ ਤੇ ਚੋਰ ਕਹਿ ਗਹਿ ਲੀਨਾ ਤਿਹ ਹਾਥ ॥੯॥

dhaae pare te chor keh geh leenaa tih haath |9|

But now the watchman chased him and caught him from his hand.(9)
