ਭੈਰਉ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ॥

Bhairao, Fifth Mehl:

ਪੰਚ ਮਜਮੀ ਜੋ ਪੰਚਨ ਰਾਖੈ ॥

panch majamee jo panchan raakhai |

One who harbors the five thieves, becomes the embodiment of these five.

ਮਿਥਿਆ ਰਸਨਾ ਨਿਤ ਉਠਿ ਭਾਖੈ ॥

mithiaa rasanaa nit utth bhaakhai |

He gets up each day and tells lies.

ਚਕ੍ਰ ਬਣਾਇ ਕਰੈ ਪਾਖੰਡ ॥

chakr banaae karai paakhandd |

He applies ceremonial religious marks to his body, but practices hypocrisy.

ਝੁਰਿ ਝੁਰਿ ਪਚੈ ਜੈਸੇ ਤ੍ਰਿਅ ਰੰਡ ॥੧॥

jhur jhur pachai jaise tria randd |1|

He wastes away in sadness and pain, like a lonely widow. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਨਾਮ ਬਿਨਾ ਸਭ ਝੂਠੁ ॥

har ke naam binaa sabh jhootth |

Without the Name of the Lord, everything is false.

ਬਿਨੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਸਾਕਤ ਮੂਠੁ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

bin gur poore mukat na paaeeai saachee darageh saakat mootth |1| rahaau |

Without the Perfect Guru, liberation is not obtained. In the Court of the True Lord, the faithless cynic is plundered. ||1||Pause||

ਸੋਈ ਕੁਚੀਲੁ ਕੁਦਰਤਿ ਨਹੀ ਜਾਨੈ ॥

soee kucheel kudarat nahee jaanai |

One who does not know the Lord's Creative Power is polluted.

ਲੀਪਿਐ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਸੁਚਿ ਹਰਿ ਮਾਨੈ ॥

leepiai thaae na such har maanai |

Ritualistically plastering one's kitchen square does not make it pure in the Eyes of the Lord.

ਅੰਤਰੁ ਮੈਲਾ ਬਾਹਰੁ ਨਿਤ ਧੋਵੈ ॥

antar mailaa baahar nit dhovai |

If a person is polluted within, he may wash himself everyday on the outside,

ਸਾਚੀ ਦਰਗਹਿ ਅਪਨੀ ਪਤਿ ਖੋਵੈ ॥੨॥

saachee darageh apanee pat khovai |2|

but in the Court of the True Lord, he forfeits his honor. ||2||

ਮਾਇਆ ਕਾਰਣਿ ਕਰੈ ਉਪਾਉ ॥

maaeaa kaaran karai upaau |

He works for the sake of Maya,

ਕਬਹਿ ਨ ਘਾਲੈ ਸੀਧਾ ਪਾਉ ॥

kabeh na ghaalai seedhaa paau |

but he never places his feet on the right path.

ਜਿਨਿ ਕੀਆ ਤਿਸੁ ਚੀਤਿ ਨ ਆਣੈ ॥

jin keea tis cheet na aanai |

He never even remembers the One who created him.

ਕੂੜੀ ਕੂੜੀ ਮੁਖਹੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥੩॥

koorree koorree mukhahu vakhaanai |3|

He speaks falsehood, only falsehood, with his mouth. ||3||

ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਤਾਰੁ ॥

jis no karam kare karataar |

That person, unto whom the Creator Lord shows Mercy,

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਿ ਹੋਇ ਤਿਸੁ ਬਿਉਹਾਰੁ ॥

saadhasang hoe tis biauhaar |

deals with the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy.

ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮ ਭਗਤਿ ਸਿਉ ਲਾਗਾ ਰੰਗੁ ॥

har naam bhagat siau laagaa rang |

One who lovingly worships the Lord's Name,

ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਿਸੁ ਜਨ ਨਹੀ ਭੰਗੁ ॥੪॥੪੦॥੫੩॥

kahu naanak tis jan nahee bhang |4|40|53|

says Nanak - no obstacles ever block his way. ||4||40||53||
