Maalee Gauraa, Fifth Mehl:

ਐਸੋ ਸਹਾਈ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਨਾਮ ॥

aiso sahaaee har ko naam |

This is the sort of helper the Name of the Lord is.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਭਜੁ ਪੂਰਨ ਕਾਮ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

saadhasangat bhaj pooran kaam |1| rahaau |

Meditating in the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy, one's affairs are perfectly resolved. ||1||Pause||

ਬੂਡਤ ਕਉ ਜੈਸੇ ਬੇੜੀ ਮਿਲਤ ॥

booddat kau jaise berree milat |

It is like a boat to a drowning man.

ਬੂਝਤ ਦੀਪਕ ਮਿਲਤ ਤਿਲਤ ॥

boojhat deepak milat tilat |

It is like oil to the lamp whose flame is dying out.

ਜਲਤ ਅਗਨੀ ਮਿਲਤ ਨੀਰ ॥

jalat aganee milat neer |

It is like water poured on the burning fire.

ਜੈਸੇ ਬਾਰਿਕ ਮੁਖਹਿ ਖੀਰ ॥੧॥

jaise baarik mukheh kheer |1|

It is like milk poured into the baby's mouth. ||1||

ਜੈਸੇ ਰਣ ਮਹਿ ਸਖਾ ਭ੍ਰਾਤ ॥

jaise ran meh sakhaa bhraat |

As one's brother becomes a helper on the field of battle;

ਜੈਸੇ ਭੂਖੇ ਭੋਜਨ ਮਾਤ ॥

jaise bhookhe bhojan maat |

as one's hunger is satisfied by food;

ਜੈਸੇ ਕਿਰਖਹਿ ਬਰਸ ਮੇਘ ॥

jaise kirakheh baras megh |

as the cloudburst saves the crops;

ਜੈਸੇ ਪਾਲਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਸੇਂਘ ॥੨॥

jaise paalan saran sengh |2|

as one is protected in the tiger's lair;||2||

ਗਰੁੜ ਮੁਖਿ ਨਹੀ ਸਰਪ ਤ੍ਰਾਸ ॥

garurr mukh nahee sarap traas |

As with the magic spell of Garuda the eagle upon one's lips, one does not fear the snake;

ਸੂਆ ਪਿੰਜਰਿ ਨਹੀ ਖਾਇ ਬਿਲਾਸੁ ॥

sooaa pinjar nahee khaae bilaas |

as the cat cannot eat the parrot in its cage;

ਜੈਸੋ ਆਂਡੋ ਹਿਰਦੇ ਮਾਹਿ ॥

jaiso aanddo hirade maeh |

as the bird cherishes her eggs in her heart;

ਜੈਸੋ ਦਾਨੋ ਚਕੀ ਦਰਾਹਿ ॥੩॥

jaiso daano chakee daraeh |3|

as the grains are spared, by sticking to the central post of the mill;||3||

ਬਹੁਤੁ ਓਪਮਾ ਥੋਰ ਕਹੀ ॥

bahut opamaa thor kahee |

Your Glory is so great; I can describe only a tiny bit of it.

ਹਰਿ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਮ ਅਗਾਧਿ ਤੁਹੀ ॥

har agam agam agaadh tuhee |

O Lord, You are inaccessible, unapproachable and unfathomable.

ਊਚ ਮੂਚੌ ਬਹੁ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

aooch moochau bahu apaar |

You are lofty and high, utterly great and infinite.

ਸਿਮਰਤ ਨਾਨਕ ਤਰੇ ਸਾਰ ॥੪॥੩॥

simarat naanak tare saar |4|3|

Meditating in remembrance on the Lord, O Nanak, one is carried across. ||4||3||
