ਨਾਂਗੇ ਆਵਨੁ ਨਾਂਗੇ ਜਾਨਾ ॥
naange aavan naange jaanaa |
Naked we come, and naked we go.
ਕੋਇ ਨ ਰਹਿਹੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਰਾਨਾ ॥੧॥
koe na rahihai raajaa raanaa |1|
No one, not even the kings and queens, shall remain. ||1||
ਰਾਮੁ ਰਾਜਾ ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਮੇਰੈ ॥
raam raajaa nau nidh merai |
The Sovereign Lord is the nine treasures for me.
ਸੰਪੈ ਹੇਤੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਧਨੁ ਤੇਰੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
sanpai het kalat dhan terai |1| rahaau |
The possessions and the spouse to which the mortal is lovingly attached, are Your wealth, O Lord. ||1||Pause||
ਆਵਤ ਸੰਗ ਨ ਜਾਤ ਸੰਗਾਤੀ ॥
aavat sang na jaat sangaatee |
They do not come with the mortal, and they do not go with him.
ਕਹਾ ਭਇਓ ਦਰਿ ਬਾਂਧੇ ਹਾਥੀ ॥੨॥
kahaa bheo dar baandhe haathee |2|
What good does it do him, if he has elephants tied up at his doorway? ||2||
ਲੰਕਾ ਗਢੁ ਸੋਨੇ ਕਾ ਭਇਆ ॥
lankaa gadt sone kaa bheaa |
The fortress of Sri Lanka was made out of gold,
ਮੂਰਖੁ ਰਾਵਨੁ ਕਿਆ ਲੇ ਗਇਆ ॥੩॥
moorakh raavan kiaa le geaa |3|
but what could the foolish Raawan take with him when he left? ||3||
ਕਹਿ ਕਬੀਰ ਕਿਛੁ ਗੁਨੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
keh kabeer kichh gun beechaar |
Says Kabeer, think of doing some good deeds.
ਚਲੇ ਜੁਆਰੀ ਦੁਇ ਹਥ ਝਾਰਿ ॥੪॥੨॥
chale juaaree due hath jhaar |4|2|
In the end, the gambler shall depart empty-handed. ||4||2||
