ਧਾਮ ਜਵਾਈ ਦੁਹਿਤਾ ਹਰੀ ॥

dhaam javaaee duhitaa haree |

ਦੇਖਹ ਦੈਵ ਕਹਾ ਇਹ ਕਰੀ ॥

dekhah daiv kahaa ih karee |

She cried, ‘Live-in son-in-law has run away with my daughter.

ਸੂਰ ਉਦੋਤ ਗਯੋ ਨਹਿ ਆਯੋ ॥

soor udot gayo neh aayo |

ਮੈ ਤਿਨ ਕੋ ਕਛੁ ਸੋਧ ਨ ਪਾਯੋ ॥੭॥

mai tin ko kachh sodh na paayo |7|

‘The Sun has set, but he has not come back. I have no news of them.’(7)

ਕਾਜੀ ਕੋਟਵਾਰ ਜਬ ਸੁਨ︀ਯੋ ॥

kaajee kottavaar jab sunayo |

ਦੁਹੂੰ ਬਿਹਸਿ ਕੈ ਮਾਥੋ ਧੁਨ੍ਰਯੋ ॥

duhoon bihas kai maatho dhunrayo |

When the Quazi (the justice) and the policeman heard this, they both, laughingly, shook their heads.

ਜਾ ਕੋ ਸੁਤਾ ਦਾਨੁ ਤੈ ਦਯੋ ॥

jaa ko sutaa daan tai dayo |

ਕਹਾ ਭਯੋ ਜੌ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਲੈ ਗਯੋ ॥੮॥

kahaa bhayo jau grih lai gayo |8|

‘When you have married your daughter to him, then what if he has taken her to his house.’(8)

ਸਭਹਿਨ ਤਹਿ ਝੂਠੀ ਕਰਿ ਮਾਨ︀ਯੋ ॥

sabhahin teh jhootthee kar maanayo |

ਭੇਦ ਅਭੇਦ ਕਛੁ ਹ੍ਰਿਦੈ ਨ ਜਾਨ︀ਯੋ ॥

bhed abhed kachh hridai na jaanayo |

Everybody branded her as a liar without understanding the secret.

ਲੂਟਿ ਦਰਬੁ ਤਾ ਕੋ ਸਭ ਲਯੋ ॥

loott darab taa ko sabh layo |

ਤਬ ਹੀ ਦੇਸ ਨਿਕਾਰੋ ਦਯੋ ॥੯॥

tab hee des nikaaro dayo |9|

Rather she was plundered and banished from the country.(9)(1)
