ਖੋਲਿ ਕੈ ਦੁਆਰਾ ਕਿਵਾਰ ਸਭੈ ਨਿਕਸੀ ਅਸੁਰਾਰਿ ਕੀ ਸੈਨ ਚਲੀ ॥
khol kai duaaraa kivaar sabhai nikasee asuraar kee sain chalee |
Opening all the gates and portals of the citadel, the army of Indra, the enemy of demons marched outside.,
ਰਨ ਮੈ ਤਬ ਆਨਿ ਇਕਤ੍ਰ ਭਏ ਲਖਿ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਕੀ ਪਤ੍ਰਿ ਜਿਉ ਸੈਨ ਹਲੀ ॥
ran mai tab aan ikatr bhe lakh satru kee patr jiau sain halee |
All of them assembled in the battlefield and the army of the enemy, seeing the army of Indra, trembled like a leaf.,
ਦ੍ਰੁਮ ਦੀਰਘ ਜਿਉ ਗਜ ਬਾਜ ਹਲੇ ਰਥ ਪਾਇਕ ਜਿਉ ਫਲ ਫੂਲ ਕਲੀ ॥
drum deeragh jiau gaj baaj hale rath paaeik jiau fal fool kalee |
The elephants and horses tall trees and the warriors on foot and on chariots move like fruit, flowers and buds.,
ਦਲ ਸੁੰਭ ਕੋ ਮੇਘ ਬਿਡਾਰਨ ਕੋ ਨਿਕਸਿਉ ਮਘਵਾ ਮਾਨੋ ਪਉਨ ਬਲੀ ॥੬੪॥
dal sunbh ko megh biddaaran ko nikasiau maghavaa maano paun balee |64|
In order to destroy the clouds-like forces of Sumbh, Indra came forward like mighty wind-god.64.,
ਇਹ ਕੋਪ ਪੁਰੰਦਰ ਦੇਵ ਚੜੇ ਉਤ ਜੁਧ ਕੋ ਸੁੰਭ ਚੜੇ ਰਨ ਮੈ ॥

Indra came forward in great rage from this side and from the other side Sumbh marched for war.,
ਕਰ ਬਾਨ ਕਮਾਨ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਨ ਗਦਾ ਪਹਿਰੇ ਤਨ ਤ੍ਰਾਨ ਤਬੈ ਤਨ ਮੈ ॥
kar baan kamaan kripaan gadaa pahire tan traan tabai tan mai |
There are bows, arrows, swords, maces etc., in the hands of the warriors and they are wearing armour on their bodies.,
ਤਬ ਮਾਰ ਮਚੀ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਓਰਨ ਤੇ ਨ ਰਹਿਓ ਭ੍ਰਮ ਸੂਰਨ ਕੇ ਮਨ ਮੈ ॥
tab maar machee duhoon oran te na rahio bhram sooran ke man mai |
Undoubtedly horrible playing began from both sides.,
ਬਹੁ ਜੰਬੁਕ ਗ੍ਰਿਝ ਚਲੈ ਸੁਨਿ ਕੈ ਅਤਿ ਮੋਦ ਬਢਿਓ ਸਿਵ ਕੇ ਗਨ ਮੈ ॥੬੫॥

ਰਾਜ ਪੁਰੰਦਰ ਕੋਪ ਕੀਓ ਇਤਿ ਜੁਧ ਕੋ ਦੈਤ ਜੁਰੇ ਉਤ ਕੈਸੇ ॥

On this side, Indra is getting very furious and on the other side, all the army of the demons hath assembled.,
ਸਿਆਮ ਘਟਾ ਘੁਮਰੀ ਘਨਘੋਰ ਕੈ ਘੇਰਿ ਲੀਓ ਹਰਿ ਕੋ ਰਵਿ ਤੈਸੇ ॥
siaam ghattaa ghumaree ghanaghor kai gher leeo har ko rav taise |
The army of demons appears like the sun-chariot of the Lord encircled by the dark thundering clouds.,
ਸਕ੍ਰ ਕਮਾਨ ਕੇ ਬਾਨ ਲਗੇ ਸਰ ਫੋਕ ਲਸੈ ਅਰਿ ਕੇ ਉਰਿ ਐਸੇ ॥
sakr kamaan ke baan lage sar fok lasai ar ke ur aise |
The sharp edges of the arrows shot from the bow of Indra, poiercing the hearts of the enemies glisten.,
ਮਾਨੋ ਪਹਾਰ ਕਰਾਰ ਮੈ ਚੋਂਚ ਪਸਾਰਿ ਰਹੇ ਸਿਸੁ ਸਾਰਕ ਜੈਸੇ ॥੬੬॥
maano pahaar karaar mai chonch pasaar rahe sis saarak jaise |66|
Like the beaks of the young once of strokes spread in the caves of the mountains.66.,
ਬਾਨ ਲਗੇ ਲਖ ਸੁੰਭ ਦਈਤ ਧਸੇ ਰਨ ਲੈ ਕਰਵਾਰਨ ਕੋ ॥

Seeing the king Sumbh pierced by the arrows, the demons-forces jumped into the battlefield, drawing out their swords.,
ਰੰਗਭੂਮਿ ਮੈ ਸਤ੍ਰੁ ਗਿਰਾਇ ਦਏ ਬਹੁ ਸ੍ਰਉਨ ਬਹਿਓ ਅਸੁਰਾਨ ਕੋ ॥
rangabhoom mai satru giraae de bahu sraun bahio asuraan ko |
They slayed many enemies in the field and in this way good deal of the blood of the gods flowed.,
ਪ੍ਰਗਟੇ ਗਨ ਜੰਬੁਕ ਗ੍ਰਿਝ ਪਿਸਾਚ ਸੁ ਯੌ ਰਨ ਭਾਤਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਨ ਕੋ ॥
pragatte gan janbuk grijh pisaach su yau ran bhaat pukaaran ko |
Various types of ganas, jackals, vultures, ghosts etc., appearing in the battlefield, produced various sounds in such a way,
ਸੁ ਮਨੋ ਭਟ ਸਾਰਸੁਤੀ ਤਟਿ ਨਾਤ ਹੈ ਪੂਰਬ ਪਾਪ ਉਤਾਰਨ ਕੋ ॥੬੭॥
su mano bhatt saarasutee tatt naat hai poorab paap utaaran ko |67|
As though the warriors, at the time of taking bath in Saraswati river are removing various types of their sins.67.,
ਜੁਧ ਨਿਸੁੰਭ ਭਇਆਨ ਰਚਿਓ ਅਸ ਆਗੇ ਨ ਦਾਨਵ ਕਾਹੂ ਕਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥
judh nisunbh bheaan rachio as aage na daanav kaahoo kario hai |
Nisumbh then waged such a terrible war, as none of the demons had waged earlier.,
ਲੋਥਨ ਊਪਰਿ ਲੋਥ ਪਰੀ ਤਹ ਗੀਧ ਸ੍ਰਿੰਗਾਲਨਿ ਮਾਸੁ ਚਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥

ਗੂਦ ਬਹੈ ਸਿਰ ਕੇਸਨ ਤੇ ਸਿਤ ਪੁੰਜ ਪ੍ਰਵਾਹ ਧਰਾਨਿ ਪਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥

ਮਾਨਹੁ ਜਟਾਧਰ ਕੀ ਜਟ ਤੇ ਜਨੁ ਰੋਸ ਕੈ ਗੰਗ ਕੋ ਨੀਰ ਢਰਿਓ ਹੈ ॥੬੮॥
maanahu jattaadhar kee jatt te jan ros kai gang ko neer dtario hai |68|
As if the current of Ganga hath gushed out of he hair of Shiva.68.,
ਬਾਰ ਸਿਵਾਰ ਭਏ ਤਿਹ ਠਉਰ ਸੁ ਫੇਨ ਜਿਉ ਛਤ੍ਰ ਫਿਰੇ ਤਰਤਾ ॥
baar sivaar bhe tih tthaur su fen jiau chhatr fire tarataa |
The hair of the heads are floating on water like scum and the canopies of the kings like froth.,
ਕਰ ਅੰਗੁਲਕਾ ਸਫਰੀ ਤਲਫੈ ਭੁਜ ਕਾਟਿ ਭੁਜੰਗ ਕਰੇ ਕਰਤਾ ॥
kar angulakaa safaree talafai bhuj kaatt bhujang kare karataa |
The gingers of hands are writhing like fish and the chopped arms seem like serpents.,
ਹਯ ਨਕ੍ਰ ਧੁਜਾ ਦ੍ਰੁਮ ਸ੍ਰਉਣਤ ਨੀਰ ਮੈ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਜਿਉ ਚਕ੍ਰ ਫਿਰੈ ਗਰਤਾ ॥
hay nakr dhujaa drum sraunat neer mai chakr jiau chakr firai garataa |
Within the blood of the horses, chariots and wheels of chariots are rotating as in whirlpools of water.,
ਤਬ ਸੁੰਭ ਨਿਸੁੰਭ ਦੁਹੂੰ ਮਿਲਿ ਦਾਨਵ ਮਾਰ ਕਰੀ ਰਨ ਮੈ ਸਰਤਾ ॥੬੯॥
tab sunbh nisunbh duhoon mil daanav maar karee ran mai sarataa |69|
Sumbh and Nisumbh waged such a furious war together which hath caused the flow of the stream of blood in the field.69.,
