Aasaa, Fifth Mehl:
ਪੁਤਰੀ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਰਿ ਥਾਟੀ ॥
putaree teree bidh kar thaattee |
The puppet of the body has been fashioned with great skill.
ਜਾਨੁ ਸਤਿ ਕਰਿ ਹੋਇਗੀ ਮਾਟੀ ॥੧॥
jaan sat kar hoeigee maattee |1|
Know for sure that it shall turn to dust. ||1||
ਮੂਲੁ ਸਮਾਲਹੁ ਅਚੇਤ ਗਵਾਰਾ ॥
mool samaalahu achet gavaaraa |
Remember your origins, O thoughtless fool.
ਇਤਨੇ ਕਉ ਤੁਮੑ ਕਿਆ ਗਰਬੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
eitane kau tuma kiaa garabe |1| rahaau |
Why are you so proud of yourself? ||1||Pause||
ਤੀਨਿ ਸੇਰ ਕਾ ਦਿਹਾੜੀ ਮਿਹਮਾਨੁ ॥
teen ser kaa dihaarree mihamaan |
You are a guest, given three meals a day;
ਅਵਰ ਵਸਤੁ ਤੁਝ ਪਾਹਿ ਅਮਾਨ ॥੨॥
avar vasat tujh paeh amaan |2|
other things are entrusted to you. ||2||
ਬਿਸਟਾ ਅਸਤ ਰਕਤੁ ਪਰੇਟੇ ਚਾਮ ॥
bisattaa asat rakat parette chaam |
you are just excrement, bones and blood, wrapped up in skin
ਇਸੁ ਊਪਰਿ ਲੇ ਰਾਖਿਓ ਗੁਮਾਨ ॥੩॥
eis aoopar le raakhio gumaan |3|
- this is what you are taking such pride in! ||3||
ਏਕ ਵਸਤੁ ਬੂਝਹਿ ਤਾ ਹੋਵਹਿ ਪਾਕ ॥
ek vasat boojheh taa hoveh paak |
If you could understand even one thing, then you would be pure.
ਬਿਨੁ ਬੂਝੇ ਤੂੰ ਸਦਾ ਨਾਪਾਕ ॥੪॥
bin boojhe toon sadaa naapaak |4|
Without understanding, you shall be forever impure. ||4||
ਕਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਕਉ ਕੁਰਬਾਨੁ ॥
kahu naanak gur kau kurabaan |
Says Nanak, I am a sacrifice to the Guru;
ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ਹਰਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਸੁਜਾਨੁ ॥੫॥੧੪॥
jis te paaeeai har purakh sujaan |5|14|
through Him, I obtain the Lord, the All-knowing Primal Being. ||5||14||
ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੫ ਇਕਤੁਕੇ ਚਉਪਦੇ ॥
aasaa mahalaa 5 ikatuke chaupade |
Aasaa, Fifth Mehl, Ek-Thukay, Chau-Padhay:
ਇਕ ਘੜੀ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਬਹੁਤੁ ਦਿਹਾਰੇ ॥
eik gharree dinas mo kau bahut dihaare |
One moment, one day, is for me many days.
ਮਨੁ ਨ ਰਹੈ ਕੈਸੇ ਮਿਲਉ ਪਿਆਰੇ ॥੧॥
man na rahai kaise milau piaare |1|
My mind cannot survive - how can I meet my Beloved? ||1||
ਇਕੁ ਪਲੁ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਕਬਹੁ ਨ ਬਿਹਾਵੈ ॥
eik pal dinas mo kau kabahu na bihaavai |
I cannot endure one day, even one instant without Him.
ਦਰਸਨ ਕੀ ਮਨਿ ਆਸ ਘਨੇਰੀ ਕੋਈ ਐਸਾ ਸੰਤੁ ਮੋ ਕਉ ਪਿਰਹਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
darasan kee man aas ghaneree koee aisaa sant mo kau pireh milaavai |1| rahaau |
My mind's desire for the Blessed Vision of His Darshan is so great. Is there any Saint who can lead me to meet my Beloved? ||1||Pause||
ਚਾਰਿ ਪਹਰ ਚਹੁ ਜੁਗਹ ਸਮਾਨੇ ॥
chaar pehar chahu jugah samaane |
The four watches of the day are like the four ages.
ਰੈਣਿ ਭਈ ਤਬ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਜਾਨੇ ॥੨॥
rain bhee tab ant na jaane |2|
And when night comes, I think that it shall never end. ||2||
ਪੰਚ ਦੂਤ ਮਿਲਿ ਪਿਰਹੁ ਵਿਛੋੜੀ ॥
panch doot mil pirahu vichhorree |
The five demons have joined together, to separate me from my Husband Lord.
ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਰੋਵੈ ਹਾਥ ਪਛੋੜੀ ॥੩॥
bhram bhram rovai haath pachhorree |3|
Wandering and rambling, I cry out and wring my hands. ||3||
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਕਉ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਸੁ ਦਿਖਾਇਆ ॥
jan naanak kau har daras dikhaaeaa |
The Lord has revealed the Blessed Vision of His Darshan to servant Nanak;
ਆਤਮੁ ਚੀਨੑਿ ਪਰਮ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਇਆ ॥੪॥੧੫॥
aatam cheena param sukh paaeaa |4|15|
realizing his own self, he has obtained supreme peace. ||4||15||
