ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥
ik oankaar satigur prasaad |
One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਜਗੁ ਕਊਆ ਮੁਖਿ ਚੁੰਚ ਗਿਆਨੁ ॥
jag kaooaa mukh chunch giaan |
The world is like a crow; with its beak, it croaks spiritual wisdom.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਝੂਠੁ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੁ ॥
antar lobh jhootth abhimaan |
But deep within there is greed, falsehood and pride.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਪਾਜੁ ਲਹਗੁ ਨਿਦਾਨਿ ॥੧॥
bin naavai paaj lehag nidaan |1|
Without the Name of the Lord, your thin outer covering shall wear off, you fool. ||1||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਚੀਤਿ ॥
satigur sev naam vasai man cheet |
Serving the True Guru, the Naam shall dwell in your conscious mind.
ਗੁਰੁ ਭੇਟੇ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਚੇਤਾਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਹੋਰ ਝੂਠੁ ਪਰੀਤਿ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥
gur bhette har naam chetaavai bin naavai hor jhootth pareet |1| rahaau |
Meeting with the Guru, the Name of the Lord comes to mind. Without the Name, other loves are false. ||1||Pause||
ਗੁਰਿ ਕਹਿਆ ਸਾ ਕਾਰ ਕਮਾਵਹੁ ॥
gur kahiaa saa kaar kamaavahu |
So do that work, which the Guru tells you to do.
ਸਬਦੁ ਚੀਨੑਿ ਸਹਜ ਘਰਿ ਆਵਹੁ ॥
sabad cheena sehaj ghar aavahu |
Contemplating the Word of the Shabad, you shall come to the home of celestial bliss.
ਸਾਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਵਡਾਈ ਪਾਵਹੁ ॥੨॥
saachai naae vaddaaee paavahu |2|
Through the True Name, you shall obtain glorious greatness. ||2||
ਆਪਿ ਨ ਬੂਝੈ ਲੋਕ ਬੁਝਾਵੈ ॥
aap na boojhai lok bujhaavai |
One who does not understand his own self, but still tries to instruct others,
ਮਨ ਕਾ ਅੰਧਾ ਅੰਧੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ॥
man kaa andhaa andh kamaavai |
is mentally blind, and acts in blindness.
ਦਰੁ ਘਰੁ ਮਹਲੁ ਠਉਰੁ ਕੈਸੇ ਪਾਵੈ ॥੩॥
dar ghar mehal tthaur kaise paavai |3|
How can he ever find a home and a place of rest, in the Mansion of the Lord's Presence? ||3||
ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਸੇਵੀਐ ਅੰਤਰਜਾਮੀ ॥
har jeeo seveeai antarajaamee |
Serve the Dear Lord, the Inner-knower, the Searcher of hearts;
ਘਟ ਘਟ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜਿਸ ਕੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਨੀ ॥
ghatt ghatt antar jis kee jot samaanee |
deep within each and every heart, His Light is shining forth.
ਤਿਸੁ ਨਾਲਿ ਕਿਆ ਚਲੈ ਪਹਨਾਮੀ ॥੪॥
tis naal kiaa chalai pahanaamee |4|
How can anyone hide anything from Him? ||4||
ਸਾਚਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਾਚੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਜਾਨੈ ॥
saachaa naam saachai sabad jaanai |
The True Name is known through the True Word of the Shabad.
ਆਪੈ ਆਪੁ ਮਿਲੈ ਚੂਕੈ ਅਭਿਮਾਨੈ ॥
aapai aap milai chookai abhimaanai |
The Lord Himself meets that one who eradicates egotistical pride.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਵਖਾਨੈ ॥੫॥
guramukh naam sadaa sadaa vakhaanai |5|
The Gurmukh chants the Naam, forever and ever. ||5||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਸੇਵਿਐ ਦੂਜੀ ਦੁਰਮਤਿ ਜਾਈ ॥
satigur seviai doojee duramat jaaee |
Serving the True Guru, duality and evil-mindedness are taken away.
ਅਉਗਣ ਕਾਟਿ ਪਾਪਾ ਮਤਿ ਖਾਈ ॥
aaugan kaatt paapaa mat khaaee |
Guilty mistakes are erased, and the sinful intellect is cleansed.
ਕੰਚਨ ਕਾਇਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਸਮਾਈ ॥੬॥
kanchan kaaeaa jotee jot samaaee |6|
One's body sparkles like gold, and one's light merges into the Light. ||6||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਵਡੀ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥
satigur miliai vaddee vaddiaaee |
Meeting with the True Guru, one is blessed with glorious greatness.
ਦੁਖੁ ਕਾਟੈ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਈ ॥
dukh kaattai hiradai naam vasaaee |
Pain is taken away, and the Naam comes to dwell within the heart.
ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥੭॥
naam rate sadaa sukh paaee |7|
Imbued with the Naam, one finds eternal peace. ||7||
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਕਰਣੀ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
guramat maaniaa karanee saar |
Obeying the Gur's instructions, one's actions are purified.
ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਮੋਖ ਦੁਆਰੁ ॥
guramat maaniaa mokh duaar |
Obeying the Guru's Instructions, one finds the state of salvation.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਪਰਵਾਰੈ ਸਾਧਾਰੁ ॥੮॥੧॥੩॥
naanak guramat maaniaa paravaarai saadhaar |8|1|3|
O Nanak, those who follow the Guru's Teachings are saved, along with their families. ||8||1||3||
