ਗਜੰ ਗਜੇ ਹਯੰ ਹਲੇ ਹਲਾ ਹਲੀ ਹਲੋ ਹਲੰ ॥
gajan gaje hayan hale halaa halee halo halan |
ਬਬਜ ਸਿੰਧਰੇ ਸੁਰੰ ਛੁਟੰਤ ਬਾਣ ਕੇਵਲੰ ॥
babaj sindhare suran chhuttant baan kevalan |
The horses began to move and elephant roared, there was confusion on all the four-sides, the musical instruments resounded and the harmonious sound of the discharge of arrows was heard
ਪਪਕ ਪਖਰੇ ਤੁਰੇ ਭਭਖ ਘਾਇ ਨਿਰਮਲੰ ॥
papak pakhare ture bhabhakh ghaae niramalan |
ਪਲੁਥ ਲੁਥ ਬਿਥਰੀ ਅਮਥ ਜੁਥ ਉਥਲੰ ॥੩੦੮॥
paluth luth bitharee amath juth uthalan |308|
The horses vied with one another in speed and the pure blood gushed out of the wounds. In the turmoil of the war, the corpses rolling in dust, scattered hither and thither.308.
ਅਜੁਥ ਲੁਥ ਬਿਥਰੀ ਮਿਲੰਤ ਹਥ ਬਖਯੰ ॥
ajuth luth bitharee milant hath bakhayan |
ਅਘੁਮ ਘਾਇ ਘੁਮ ਏ ਬਬਕ ਬੀਰ ਦੁਧਰੰ ॥
aghum ghaae ghum e babak beer dudharan |
Because of the blows of the sword being stuck on the waists, the corpses were scattered and the warriors, turning with difficulty, began to strike bows with double-edged dagger.
ਕਿਲੰ ਕਰੰਤ ਖਪਰੀ ਪਿਪੰਤ ਸ੍ਰੋਣ ਪਾਣਯੰ ॥

The Yoginis while shrieking, and taking the blood in their hands began to drink it
ਹਹਕ ਭੈਰਵੰ ਸ੍ਰੁਤੰ ਉਠੰਤ ਜੁਧ ਜ੍ਵਾਲਯੰ ॥੩੦੯॥

ਫਿਕੰਤ ਫਿੰਕਤੀ ਫਿਰੰ ਰੜੰਤ ਗਿਧ ਬ੍ਰਿਧਣੰ ॥

The jackals and big vultures roamed in the battlefield hither and thither
ਡਹਕ ਡਾਮਰੀ ਉਠੰ ਬਕਾਰ ਬੀਰ ਬੈਤਲੰ ॥
ddehak ddaamaree utthan bakaar beer baitalan |
The vampires bellowed and the Baitals (ghosts) raised their shrill voice.
ਖਹਤ ਖਗ ਖਤ੍ਰੀਯੰ ਖਿਮੰਤ ਧਾਰ ਉਜਲੰ ॥
khehat khag khatreeyan khimant dhaar ujalan |
ਘਣੰਕ ਜਾਣ ਸਾਵਲੰ ਲਸੰਤ ਬੇਗ ਬਿਜੁਲੰ ॥੩੧੦॥
ghanank jaan saavalan lasant beg bijulan |310|
The white-edged dagger in the hands of the Kshatriyas (Ram and Lakshman) was well-placed in their hands like the lightning in the dark clouds.310.
ਪਿਪੰਤ ਸ੍ਰੋਣ ਖਪਰੀ ਭਖੰਤ ਮਾਸ ਚਾਵਡੰ ॥
pipant sron khaparee bhakhant maas chaavaddan |
ਹਕਾਰ ਵੀਰ ਸੰਭਿੜੈ ਲੁਝਾਰ ਧਾਰ ਦੁਧਰੰ ॥
hakaar veer sanbhirrai lujhaar dhaar dudharan |
The Yoginis with the bowls were drinking blood and the kites were eating flesh, the warriors keeping control of their double-edged spears were fighting, while shouting at their companions.
ਪੁਕਾਰ ਮਾਰ ਕੈ ਪਰੇ ਸਹੰਤ ਅੰਗ ਭਾਰਯੰ ॥
pukaar maar kai pare sahant ang bhaarayan |
ਬਿਹਾਰ ਦੇਵ ਮੰਡਲੰ ਕਟੰਤ ਖਗ ਧਾਰਯੰ ॥੩੧੧॥
bihaar dev manddalan kattant khag dhaarayan |311|
They were shouting “kill, kill” and bearing the burden of their weapons, some warriors were there in the cities of gods (i.e. they had died) and some are chopping other warriors.311.
ਪ੍ਰਚਾਰ ਵਾਰ ਪੈਜ ਕੈ ਖੁਮਾਰਿ ਘਾਇ ਘੂਮਹੀ ॥
prachaar vaar paij kai khumaar ghaae ghoomahee |
ਤਪੀ ਮਨੋ ਅਧੋ ਮੁਖੰ ਸੁ ਧੂਮ ਆਗ ਧੂਮ ਹੀ ॥
tapee mano adho mukhan su dhoom aag dhoom hee |
The warriors, hurling their blows, were roaming in intoxication like the ascetics performing austerities and swinging with their faces bent downward over the smoke
ਤੁਟੰਤ ਅੰਗ ਭੰਗਯੰ ਬਹੰਤ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਧਾਰਯੰ ॥
tuttant ang bhangayan bahant asatr dhaarayan |
ਉਠੰਤ ਛਿਛ ਇਛਯੰ ਪਿਪੰਤ ਮਾਸ ਹਾਰਯੰ ॥੩੧੨॥
autthant chhichh ichhayan pipant maas haarayan |312|
There is flow of arms and the broken limbs were falling down, the waves of the desire of victory are rising and the chopped flesh is falling.312.
ਅਘੋਰ ਘਾਇ ਅਘਏ ਕਟੇ ਪਰੇ ਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਾਸਨੰ ॥
aghor ghaae aghe katte pare su praasanan |
ਘੁਮੰਤ ਜਾਣ ਰਾਵਲੰ ਲਗੇ ਸੁ ਸਿਧ ਆਸਣੰ ॥
ghumant jaan raavalan lage su sidh aasanan |
The Aghori (Sadhus) seem pleased in eating the chopped limbs and the Siddhas and Rawalpanthis, the devourers of flesh and blood have taken seats with postures
ਪਰੰਤ ਅੰਗ ਭੰਗ ਹੁਇ ਬਕੰਤ ਮਾਰ ਮਾਰਯੰ ॥
parant ang bhang hue bakant maar maarayan |
ਬਦੰਤ ਜਾਣ ਬੰਦੀਯੰ ਸੁਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਤ ਅਪਾਰਯੰ ॥੩੧੩॥
badant jaan bandeeyan sukrit krit apaarayan |313|
Shouting “kill, kill” the warriors are falling with broken limbs and because of their bravery, they are being greeted.313.
ਬਜੰਤ ਤਾਲ ਤੰਬੂਰੰ ਬਿਸੇਖ ਬੀਨ ਬੇਣਯੰ ॥
bajant taal tanbooran bisekh been benayan |
ਮ੍ਰਿਦੰਗ ਝਾਲਨਾ ਫਿਰੰ ਸਨਾਇ ਭੇਰ ਭੈ ਕਰੰ ॥
mridang jhaalanaa firan sanaae bher bhai karan |
The special sound obstructing the blows on the shields is being heard, the mixed sound of the harp, flute, drum, kettle-drum etc. is creating a dreadful atmosphere.
ਉਠੰਤ ਨਾਦਿ ਨਿਰਮਲੰ ਤੁਟੰਤ ਤਾਲ ਤਥਿਯੰ ॥

ਬਦੰਤ ਕਿਤ ਬੰਦੀਅੰ ਕਬਿੰਦ੍ਰ ਕਾਬਯ ਕਥਿਯੰ ॥੩੧੪॥
badant kit bandeean kabindr kaabay kathiyan |314|
The beautiful sounds also rearing the tunes of the blows of different kinds of weapons are arising in the battlefield, somewhere the servitors are busy in prayers and somewhere the poets are reciting their compositions.314.
ਢਲੰਤ ਢਾਲ ਮਾਲਯੰ ਖਹੰਤ ਖਗ ਖੇਤਯੰ ॥
dtalant dtaal maalayan khahant khag khetayan |
ਚਲੰਤ ਬਾਣ ਤੀਛਣੰ ਅਨੰਤ ਅੰਤ ਕੰਕਯੰ ॥
chalant baan teechhanan anant ant kankayan |
The sound of obstructing the shields and the sound of the striking swords are being heard and the sharp arrows destroying innumerable people are being discharged
ਸਿਮਟਿ ਸਾਗ ਸੁੰਕੜੰ ਸਟਕ ਸੂਲ ਸੇਲਯੰ ॥
simatt saag sunkarran sattak sool selayan |
ਰੁਲੰਤ ਰੁੰਡ ਮੁੰਡਯੰ ਝਲੰਤ ਝਾਲ ਅਝਲੰ ॥੩੧੫॥
rulant rundd munddayan jhalant jhaal ajhalan |315|
The daggers and spears are producing rustling sound and the chopped dead heads, having rolled in dust, are scattered here and there.315.
ਬਚਿਤ੍ਰ ਚਿਤ੍ਰਤੰ ਸਰੰ ਬਹੰਤ ਦਾਰੁਣੰ ਰਣੰ ॥
bachitr chitratan saran bahant daarunan ranan |
ਢਲੰਤ ਢਾਲ ਅਢਲੰ ਢੁਲੰਤ ਚਾਰੁ ਚਾਮਰੰ ॥
dtalant dtaal adtalan dtulant chaar chaamaran |
The peculiar types of arrows, drawing pictures are being discharged in the battlefield and the knocking of the spears in the battlefield and the knocking of the spears in the shields is being heard.
ਦਲੰਤ ਨਿਰਦਲੋ ਦਲੰ ਪਪਾਤ ਭੂਤਲੰ ਦਿਤੰ ॥
dalant niradalo dalan papaat bhootalan ditan |
ਉਠੰਤ ਗਦਿ ਸਦਯੰ ਨਿਨਦਿ ਨਦਿ ਦੁਭਰੰ ॥੩੧੬॥
autthant gad sadayan ninad nad dubharan |316|
The armies are being mashed and the earth is getting hot (because of the hot blood), the dreadful sound is being heard continuously form all four sides.316.
ਭਰੰਤ ਪਤ੍ਰ ਚਉਸਠੀ ਕਿਲੰਕ ਖੇਚਰੀ ਕਰੰ ॥
bharant patr chausatthee kilank khecharee karan |
ਫਿਰੰਤ ਹੂਰ ਪੂਰਯੰ ਬਰੰਤ ਦੁਧਰੰ ਨਰੰ ॥
firant hoor poorayan barant dudharan naran |
Sixty-four Yoginis, shouting loudly, are filling their pots with colour and the heavenly damsels are moving on the earth in order to wed the great horses
ਸਨਧ ਬਧ ਗੋਧਯੰ ਸੁ ਸੋਭ ਅੰਗੁਲੰ ਤ੍ਰਿਣੰ ॥
sanadh badh godhayan su sobh angulan trinan |
ਡਕੰਤ ਡਾਕਣੀ ਭ੍ਰਮੰ ਭਖੰਤ ਆਮਿਖੰ ਰਣੰ ॥੩੧੭॥
ddakant ddaakanee bhraman bhakhant aamikhan ranan |317|
The heroes, bedecking themselves are wearing armours on their hands and the vampires are roaring in the battlefield, eating flesh and bellowing.317.
ਕਿਲੰਕ ਦੇਵੀਯੰ ਕਰੰਡ ਹਕ ਡਾਮਰੂ ਸੁਰੰ ॥
kilank deveeyan karandd hak ddaamaroo suran |
ਕੜਕ ਕਤੀਯੰ ਉਠੰ ਪਰੰਤ ਧੂਰ ਪਖਰੰ ॥
karrak kateeyan utthan parant dhoor pakharan |
The loud voice of the goddess Kali, who drinks blood, and the sound of tabor are being heard, the dreadful laughter is being heard in the battlefield and the dust settled on armours is also being seen
ਬਬਜਿ ਸਿੰਧਰੇ ਸੁਰੰ ਨ੍ਰਿਘਾਤ ਸੂਲ ਸੈਹਥੀਯੰ ॥
babaj sindhare suran nrighaat sool saihatheeyan |
ਭਭਜਿ ਕਾਤਰੋ ਰਣੰ ਨਿਲਜ ਭਜ ਭੂ ਭਰੰ ॥੩੧੮॥
bhabhaj kaataro ranan nilaj bhaj bhoo bharan |318|
The elephants and horses are creating noise on being struck with the blows of sword and abandoning their shyness and being helpless, they are running away from the war.318.
ਸੁ ਸਸਤ੍ਰ ਅਸਤ੍ਰ ਸੰਨਿਧੰ ਜੁਝੰਤ ਜੋਧਣੋ ਜੁਧੰ ॥
su sasatr asatr sanidhan jujhant jodhano judhan |
ਅਰੁਝ ਪੰਕ ਲਜਣੰ ਕਰੰਤ ਦ੍ਰੋਹ ਕੇਵਲੰ ॥
arujh pank lajanan karant droh kevalan |
Having been bedecked with arms and weapons the warriors are busy in war and not being stuck in the mud of shyness they are waging war
ਪਰੰਤ ਅੰਗ ਭੰਗ ਹੁਐ ਉਠੰਤ ਮਾਸ ਕਰਦਮੰ ॥
parant ang bhang huai utthant maas karadaman |
ਖਿਲੰਤ ਜਾਣੁ ਕਦਵੰ ਸੁ ਮਝ ਕਾਨ੍ਰਹ ਗੋਪਿਕੰ ॥੩੧੯॥
khilant jaan kadavan su majh kaanrah gopikan |319|
Being filled with ire, the limbs and the bits of flesh of the warriors are falling on the earth like Krishna playing amongst Gopis by throwing up the ball from this to that side.319.
ਡਹਕ ਡਉਰ ਡਾਕਣੰ ਝਲੰਤ ਝਾਲ ਰੋਸੁਰੰ ॥
ddehak ddaur ddaakanan jhalant jhaal rosuran |
ਨਿਨਦ ਨਾਦ ਨਾਫਿਰੰ ਬਜੰਤ ਭੇਰਿ ਭੀਖਣੰ ॥
ninad naad naafiran bajant bher bheekhanan |
The tabors and famous gestures of the vampires are being seen and the dreadful sound of drums and fifes is being heard.
ਘੁਰੰਤ ਘੋਰ ਦੁੰਦਭੀ ਕਰੰਤ ਕਾਨਰੇ ਸੁਰੰ ॥
ghurant ghor dundabhee karant kaanare suran |
ਕਰੰਤ ਝਾਝਰੋ ਝੜੰ ਬਜੰਤ ਬਾਸੁਰੀ ਬਰੰ ॥੩੨੦॥
karant jhaajharo jharran bajant baasuree baran |320|
The terrible sound of big drums is being heard in the ears. The jingling of anklets and the sweet voice of flutes are also being heard in the battlefield.320.
ਨਚੰਤ ਬਾਜ ਤੀਛਣੰ ਚਲੰਤ ਚਾਚਰੀ ਕ੍ਰਿਤੰ ॥
nachant baaj teechhanan chalant chaacharee kritan |
ਲਿਖੰਤ ਲੀਕ ਉਰਬੀਅੰ ਸੁਭੰਤ ਕੁੰਡਲੀ ਕਰੰ ॥
likhant leek urabeean subhant kunddalee karan |
The swift horses are dancing and moving swiftly and with their gait they are creating coiled marks on the earth.
ਉਡੰਤ ਧੂਰ ਭੂਰਿਯੰ ਖੁਰੀਨ ਨਿਰਦਲੀ ਨਭੰ ॥
auddant dhoor bhooriyan khureen niradalee nabhan |
ਪਰੰਤ ਭੂਰ ਭਉਰਣੰ ਸੁ ਭਉਰ ਠਉਰ ਜਿਉ ਜਲੰ ॥੩੨੧॥
parant bhoor bhauranan su bhaur tthaur jiau jalan |321|
Because of the sound of their hoofs, the dust is rising upto the sky and seems like the whirlpool in water.321.
ਭਜੰਤ ਧੀਰ ਬੀਰਣੰ ਚਲੰਤ ਮਾਨ ਪ੍ਰਾਨ ਲੈ ॥
bhajant dheer beeranan chalant maan praan lai |
ਦਲੰਤ ਪੰਤ ਦੰਤੀਯੰ ਭਜੰਤ ਹਾਰ ਮਾਨ ਕੈ ॥
dalant pant danteeyan bhajant haar maan kai |
The enduring warriors are fleeing with their honour and life-breath and the lines of the elephants have been destroyed
ਮਿਲੰਤ ਦਾਤ ਘਾਸ ਲੈ ਰਰਛ ਸਬਦ ਉਚਰੰ ॥
milant daat ghaas lai rarachh sabad ucharan |
ਬਿਰਾਧ ਦਾਨਵੰ ਜੁਝਯੋ ਸੁ ਹਥਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਿਰਮਲੰ ॥੩੨੨॥
biraadh daanavan jujhayo su hath raam niramalan |322|
The demons inimical to Ram, taking the blades of grass in their teeth, have uttered the words “Protect us” and in this way the demons named Viradh has been killed.322.
