ਸਾਗਰੁ ਅਗਮੁ ਅਥਾਹੁ ਮਥਿ ਚਉਦਹ ਰਤਨ ਅਮੋਲ ਕਢਾਏ ।
saagar agam athaahu math chaudah ratan amol kadtaae |
It is said that after churning the Unfathomable Ocean, fourteen jewels were brought out of it.
ਸਸੀਅਰੁ ਸਾਰੰਗ ਧਣਖੁ ਮਦੁ ਕਉਸਤਕ ਲਛ ਧਨੰਤਰ ਪਾਏ ।
saseear saarang dhanakh mad kausatak lachh dhanantar paae |
These jewels are-moon, sarang bow, wine, kaustub mani, Laksmi, the physician;
ਆਰੰਭਾ ਕਾਮਧੇਣੁ ਲੈ ਪਾਰਿਜਾਤੁ ਅਸ੍ਵ ਅਮਿਉ ਪੀਆਏ ।
aaranbhaa kaamadhen lai paarijaat asv amiau peeae |
The Rambha fairy, Kanadhenu, Parijat, Uchchaisrava horse and nectar offered to gods to drink.
ਐਰਾਪਤਿ ਗਜ ਸੰਖੁ ਬਿਖੁ ਦੇਵ ਦਾਨਵ ਮਿਲਿ ਵੰਡਿ ਦਿਵਾਏ ।
airaapat gaj sankh bikh dev daanav mil vandd divaae |
Airavat elephant, conch and poison were distributed jointly among the gods and the demons.
ਮਾਣਕ ਮੋਤੀ ਹੀਰਿਆਂ ਬਹੁਮੁਲੇ ਸਭੁ ਕੋ ਵਰੁਸਾਏ ।
maanak motee heeriaan bahumule sabh ko varusaae |
All were given rubies, pearls and valuable diamonds.
ਸੰਖੁ ਸਮੁੰਦ੍ਰਹੁਂ ਸਖਣਾ ਧਾਹਾਂ ਦੇ ਦੇ ਰੋਇ ਸੁਣਾਏ ।
sankh samundrahun sakhanaa dhaahaan de de roe sunaae |
Out of the ocean, conch came out empty, which tells (even today) weeping and wailing its own story that none should remain hollow and empty.
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਗੁਰ ਸਬਦੁ ਸੁਣਿ ਗੁਰ ਉਪਦੇਸੁ ਨ ਰਿਦੈ ਵਸਾਏ ।
saadhasangat gur sabad sun gur upades na ridai vasaae |
If they do not adopt the discourses and teachings of the Guru heard in the holy congregation.
ਨਿਹਫਲੁ ਅਹਿਲਾ ਜਨਮੁ ਗਵਾਏ ।੧।
nihafal ahilaa janam gavaae |1|
They lose their life uselessly.
