ਹਿਕਮਤਿ ਲਖ ਹਕੀਮ ਚਲਤ ਬਣਾਵਹੀ ।

hikamat lakh hakeem chalat banaavahee |

Physicians prepare myriads of prescriptions.

ਆਕਲ ਹੋਇ ਫਹੀਮ ਮਤੇ ਮਤਾਵਹੀ ।

aakal hoe faheem mate mataavahee |

Millions of people full of wisdom adopt many a resolution.

ਗਾਫਲ ਹੋਇ ਗਨੀਮ ਵਾਦ ਵਧਾਵਹੀ ।

gaafal hoe ganeem vaad vadhaavahee |

Many enemies unwittingly go on increasing their enmity.

ਲੜਿ ਲੜਿ ਕਰਨਿ ਮੁਹੀਮ ਆਪੁ ਗਣਾਵਹੀ ।

larr larr karan muheem aap ganaavahee |

They march for fightings and thus show their ego

ਹੋਇ ਜਦੀਦ ਕਦੀਮ ਨ ਖੁਦੀ ਮਿਟਾਵਹੀ ।

hoe jadeed kadeem na khudee mittaavahee |

From youth, though, they step in old age yet their egotism is not effaced.

ਸਾਬਰੁ ਹੋਇ ਹਲੀਮ ਆਪੁ ਗਵਾਵਹੀ ।੧੨।

saabar hoe haleem aap gavaavahee |12|

Only the contented and the humble lose their sense of egocentricity.
