ROOAAL STANZA

ਰਾਜ ਕੋ ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਪਾਇ ਕੈ ਜਨਮੇਜ ਰਾਜ ਮਹਾਨ ॥

raaj ko grih paae kai janamej raaj mahaan |

Born in the house of a king, the great king Jammeja

ਸੂਰਬੀਰ ਹਠੀ ਤਪੀ ਦਸ ਚਾਰ ਚਾਰ ਨਿਧਾਨ ॥

soorabeer hatthee tapee das chaar chaar nidhaan |

Was a great hero, headstrong, ascetic and adept in eighteen learnings.

ਪਿਤਰ ਕੇ ਬਧ ਕੋਪ ਤੇ ਸਬ ਬਿਪ੍ਰ ਲੀਨ ਬੁਲਾਇ ॥

pitar ke badh kop te sab bipr leen bulaae |

Being enraged at the death of his father, he called all the Brahmins

ਸਰਪ ਮੇਧ ਕਰਿਯੋ ਲਗੇ ਮਖ ਧਰਮ ਕੇ ਚਿਤ ਚਾਇ ॥੧॥੧੬੫॥

sarap medh kariyo lage makh dharam ke chit chaae |1|165|

And engaged himself in the performance of the snake-sacrifice in the zest of his mind for Dharma.1.165.

ਏਕ ਕੋਸ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਲਉ ਮਖ ਕੁੰਡ ਕੀਨ ਬਨਾਇ ॥

ek kos pramaan lau makh kundd keen banaae |

The sacrificial pit was constructed within one kos.

ਮੰਤ੍ਰ ਸਕਤ ਕਰਨੈ ਲਗੇ ਤਹਿ ਹੋਮ ਬਿਪ੍ਰ ਬਨਾਇ ॥

mantr sakat karanai lage teh hom bipr banaae |

After preparing the fire-altar, the Brahmins began to recite mantras methodically.

ਆਨ ਆਨ ਗਿਰੈ ਲਗੇ ਤਹਿ ਸਰਪ ਕੋਟ ਅਪਾਰ ॥

aan aan girai lage teh sarap kott apaar |

Millions and innumerable serpents came to fall there in the fire.

ਜਤ੍ਰ ਤਤ੍ਰ ਉਠੀ ਜੈਤ ਧੁਨ ਭੂਮ ਭੂਰ ਉਦਾਰ ॥੨॥੧੬੬॥

jatr tatr utthee jait dhun bhoom bhoor udaar |2|166|

Here, there and everywhere resounded the strain of victory of the pious king.2.166.

ਹਸਤ ਏਕ ਦੂ ਹਸਤ ਤੀਨ ਚਉ ਹਸਤ ਪੰਚ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ॥

hasat ek doo hasat teen chau hasat panch pramaan |

The snakes measuring one arm’s length, two arms’ length, and there, four and five arms’ length

ਬੀਸ ਹਾਥ ਇਕੀਸ ਹਾਥ ਪਚੀਸ ਹਾਥ ਸਮਾਨ ॥

bees haath ikees haath pachees haath samaan |

Twenty arms’ length, twenty one arms length and twenty-five length

ਤੀਸ ਹਾਥ ਬਤੀਸ ਹਾਥ ਛਤੀਸ ਹਾਥ ਗਿਰਾਹਿ ॥

tees haath batees haath chhatees haath giraeh |

Thirty arms’ length, thirty-two arms’ length and thirty-six arms’ length fell

ਆਨ ਆਨ ਗਿਰੈ ਤਹਾ ਸਭ ਭਸਮ ਭੂਤ ਹੋਇ ਜਾਇ ॥੩॥੧੬੭॥

aan aan girai tahaa sabh bhasam bhoot hoe jaae |3|167|

And began to fall there all and reduced to ashes.3.167.

ਏਕ ਸੌ ਹਸਤ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਦੋ ਸੌ ਹਸਤ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ॥

ek sau hasat pramaan do sau hasat pramaan |

Those measuring one hindered arms’ length and two hundred arms’ length

ਤੀਨ ਸੌ ਹਸਤ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਚਤ੍ਰ ਸੈ ਸੁ ਸਮਾਨ ॥

teen sau hasat pramaan chatr sai su samaan |

Three hundred arms’ length and four hundred arms length

ਪਾਚ ਸੈ ਖਟ ਸੈ ਲਗੇ ਤਹਿ ਬੀਚ ਆਨ ਗਿਰੰਤ ॥

paach sai khatt sai lage teh beech aan girant |

Five hundred and six hundred arms’ length began to fall there within the fire-pit

ਸਹੰਸ ਹਸਤ ਪ੍ਰਮਾਨ ਲਉ ਸਭ ਹੋਮ ਹੋਤ ਅਨੰਤ ॥੪॥੧੬੮॥

sahans hasat pramaan lau sabh hom hot anant |4|168|

Even upto one thousand arms’ length and all innumerable ones were burnt and (thus reduced to ashes).4.168.
