ਨਰ ਚਰਿਤ੍ਰ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਕੇ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਕਹਾ ਬਿਚਾਰਿ ॥

nar charitr nrip ke nikatt mantree kahaa bichaar |

The Minister of the people, after pondering over,

ਤਬੈ ਕਥਾ ਛਤੀਸਵੀ ਇਹ ਬਿਧਿ ਕਹੀ ਸੁਧਾਰਿ ॥੧॥

tabai kathaa chhateesavee ih bidh kahee sudhaar |1|

Related the thirty-sixth Chritar with due amends.(1)

ਤਵਨ ਤ੍ਰਿਯਾ ਕੋ ਤੁਰਤੁ ਹੀ ਡੋਗਰ ਘਾਉ ਉਬਾਰਿ ॥

tavan triyaa ko turat hee ddogar ghaau ubaar |

That Dogar, very shortly, killed his woman,

ਤਾਹਿ ਤੁਰਤੁ ਮਾਰਤ ਭਯੋ ਗਰੇ ਰਸਹਿਯ ਡਾਰਿ ॥੨॥

taeh turat maarat bhayo gare rasahiy ddaar |2|

By putting a rope around her throat.(2)

ਵਾ ਰਸਿਯਾ ਕਹ ਛਾਨਿ ਕੈ ਬਾਧਿਸਿ ਬਰੋ ਬਨਾਇ ॥

vaa rasiyaa keh chhaan kai baadhis baro banaae |

He had tied the rope at the rooftop of the hut,

ਆਪੁ ਊਚ ਕੂਕਤ ਭਯੋ ਲੋਗਨ ਸਭਨ ਸੁਨਾਇ ॥੩॥

aap aooch kookat bhayo logan sabhan sunaae |3|

And, himself climbing over the roof, started to shout.(3)
