ਮਧੁਰ ਮਧੁਰ ਧੁਨਿ ਬੇਨੁ ਬਜਾਵੈ ॥

madhur madhur dhun ben bajaavai |

ਜੋ ਕੋਊ ਤ੍ਰਿਯ ਸ੍ਰਵਨਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਵੈ ॥

jo koaoo triy sravanan sun paavai |

He used to play flute very melodiously; any woman listening to it,

ਚਿਤ ਮੈ ਅਧਿਕ ਮਤ ਹ੍ਵੈ ਝੂਲੈ ॥

chit mai adhik mat hvai jhoolai |

ਗ੍ਰਿਹ ਕੀ ਸਕਲ ਤਾਹਿ ਸੁਧਿ ਭੂਲੇ ॥੨॥

grih kee sakal taeh sudh bhoole |2|

Would forget all her household work and succumb to its ecstasy.(2)

ਪੁਰ ਬਾਸੀ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਪੈ ਚਲਿ ਆਏ ॥

pur baasee nrip pai chal aae |

ਆਇ ਰਾਇ ਤਨ ਬਚਨ ਸੁਨਾਏ ॥

aae raae tan bachan sunaae |

The inhabitants of the village came to the Raja and requested,

ਕੈ ਮਾਧਵਨਲ ਕੌ ਅਬ ਮਰਿਯੈ ॥

kai maadhavanal kau ab mariyai |

ਨਾ ਤੋ ਯਾ ਕਹ ਦੇਸ ਨਿਕਰਿਯੈ ॥੩॥

naa to yaa keh des nikariyai |3|

‘Either Madhwan may be killed or should be banish:d from the village,(3)
