ੴ ਸਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਰਤਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨਿਰਭਉ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਅਕਾਲ ਮੂਰਤਿ ਅਜੂਨੀ ਸੈਭੰ ਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ik oankaar sat naam karataa purakh nirbhau niravair akaal moorat ajoonee saibhan gur prasaad |

ਕੋਈ ਪੜਤਾ ਸਹਸਾਕਿਰਤਾ ਕੋਈ ਪੜੈ ਪੁਰਾਨਾ ॥

koee parrataa sahasaakirataa koee parrai puraanaa |

Some read the Sanskrit scriptures, and some read the Puraanas.

ਕੋਈ ਨਾਮੁ ਜਪੈ ਜਪਮਾਲੀ ਲਾਗੈ ਤਿਸੈ ਧਿਆਨਾ ॥

koee naam japai japamaalee laagai tisai dhiaanaa |

Some meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord, and chant it on their malas, focusing on it in meditation.

ਅਬ ਹੀ ਕਬ ਹੀ ਕਿਛੂ ਨ ਜਾਨਾ ਤੇਰਾ ਏਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਛਾਨਾ ॥੧॥

ab hee kab hee kichhoo na jaanaa teraa eko naam pachhaanaa |1|

I know nothing, now or ever; I recognize only Your One Name, Lord. ||1||

ਨ ਜਾਣਾ ਹਰੇ ਮੇਰੀ ਕਵਨ ਗਤੇ ॥

n jaanaa hare meree kavan gate |

I do not know, Lord, what my condition shall be.

ਹਮ ਮੂਰਖ ਅਗਿਆਨ ਸਰਨਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਤੇਰੀ ਕਰਿ ਕਿਰਪਾ ਰਾਖਹੁ ਮੇਰੀ ਲਾਜ ਪਤੇ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

ham moorakh agiaan saran prabh teree kar kirapaa raakhahu meree laaj pate |1| rahaau |

I am foolish and ignorant; I seek Your Sanctuary, God. Please, save my honor and my self-respect. ||1||Pause||

ਕਬਹੂ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਊਭਿ ਚੜਤੁ ਹੈ ਕਬਹੂ ਜਾਇ ਪਇਆਲੇ ॥

kabahoo jeearraa aoobh charrat hai kabahoo jaae peaale |

Sometimes, the soul soars high in the heavens, and sometimes it falls to the depths of the nether regions.

ਲੋਭੀ ਜੀਅੜਾ ਥਿਰੁ ਨ ਰਹਤੁ ਹੈ ਚਾਰੇ ਕੁੰਡਾ ਭਾਲੇ ॥੨॥

lobhee jeearraa thir na rehat hai chaare kunddaa bhaale |2|

The greedy soul does not remain stable; it searches in the four directions. ||2||

ਮਰਣੁ ਲਿਖਾਇ ਮੰਡਲ ਮਹਿ ਆਏ ਜੀਵਣੁ ਸਾਜਹਿ ਮਾਈ ॥

maran likhaae manddal meh aae jeevan saajeh maaee |

With death pre-ordained, the soul comes into the world, gathering the riches of life.

ਏਕਿ ਚਲੇ ਹਮ ਦੇਖਹ ਸੁਆਮੀ ਭਾਹਿ ਬਲੰਤੀ ਆਈ ॥੩॥

ek chale ham dekhah suaamee bhaeh balantee aaee |3|

I see that some have already gone, O my Lord and Master; the burning fire is coming closer! ||3||

ਨ ਕਿਸੀ ਕਾ ਮੀਤੁ ਨ ਕਿਸੀ ਕਾ ਭਾਈ ਨਾ ਕਿਸੈ ਬਾਪੁ ਨ ਮਾਈ ॥

n kisee kaa meet na kisee kaa bhaaee naa kisai baap na maaee |

No one has any friend, and no one has any brother; no one has any father or mother.

ਪ੍ਰਣਵਤਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਜੇ ਤੂ ਦੇਵਹਿ ਅੰਤੇ ਹੋਇ ਸਖਾਈ ॥੪॥੧॥

pranavat naanak je too deveh ante hoe sakhaaee |4|1|

Prays Nanak, if You bless me with Your Name, it shall be my help and support in the end. ||4||1||
