Chhape Chhand

ਨ ਹੈ ਨ੍ਰਿਪਤਿ ਕੋ ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਨ ਹੈ ਦੇਸਨ ਕੋ ਰਾਈ ॥

n hai nripat ko putr na hai desan ko raaee |

‘Neither I am the son of a Raja, nor I am the ruler.

ਤਵ ਮੰਤ੍ਰੀ ਕੀ ਸੁਤਾ ਲਖਨ ਕੌਤਕ ਕੌ ਆਈ ॥

tav mantree kee sutaa lakhan kauatak kau aaee |

I have come to see the daughter of your minister.

ਸਾਸਤ੍ਰ ਸਿਮ੍ਰਿਤਨ ਮਾਹਿ ਸਦਾ ਸ੍ਰਵਨਨ ਸੁਨਿ ਪਾਯੋ ॥

saasatr simritan maeh sadaa sravanan sun paayo |

‘In the Shastras and Simritis, basic truths are narrated,

ਤਤੁ ਲਖਨ ਕੇ ਹੇਤ ਮੋਰ ਹਿਯਰਾ ਉਮਗਾਯੋ ॥

tat lakhan ke het mor hiyaraa umagaayo |

‘I have come to understand the gist of those.

ਤਬੈ ਉਚਰਿਹੌ ਬੈਨ ਜਬੈ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਨ ਸੋ ਲਹਿਹੋ ॥

tabai ucharihau bain jabai netran so lahiho |

‘When I have observed those with my own eyes, I will communicate with you

ਬਿਨੁ ਨੇਤ੍ਰਨ ਕੇ ਲਹੇ ਭੇਦ ਨ੍ਰਿਪ ਤੁਮੈ ਨ ਕਹਿਹੋ ॥੧੯॥

bin netran ke lahe bhed nrip tumai na kahiho |19|
