ਰੋਗੀ ਮਾਣਸੁ ਹੋਇ ਕੈ ਫਿਰਦਾ ਬਾਹਲੇ ਵੈਦ ਪੁਛੰਦਾ ।

rogee maanas hoe kai firadaa baahale vaid puchhandaa |

Suffering disease man goes about asking for treatment from many a physician.

ਕਚੈ ਵੈਦ ਨ ਜਾਣਨੀ ਵੇਦਨ ਦਾਰੂ ਰੋਗੀ ਸੰਦਾ ।

kachai vaid na jaananee vedan daaroo rogee sandaa |

Since the inexperienced physician does not know the problem of the patient as well as the medicine for the same.

ਹੋਰੋ ਦਾਰੂ ਰੋਗੁ ਹੋਰ ਹੋਇ ਪਚਾਇੜ ਦੁਖ ਸਹੰਦਾ ।

The suffering person goes suffering more and more.

ਆਵੈ ਵੈਦੁ ਸੁਵੈਦੁ ਘਰਿ ਦਾਰੂ ਦਸੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਲਹੰਦਾ ।

aavai vaid suvaid ghar daaroo dasai rog lahandaa |

If a mature physician is found, he prescribes the right medicine, which removes the malady.

ਸੰਜਮਿ ਰਹੈ ਨ ਖਾਇ ਪਥੁ ਖਟਾ ਮਿਠਾ ਸਾਉ ਚਖੰਦਾ ।

sanjam rahai na khaae path khattaa mitthaa saau chakhandaa |

Now, if the patient does not follow the prescribed discipline and goes on to eat everything sweet and sour, the physician is not to be blamed.

ਦੋਸੁ ਨ ਦਾਰੂ ਵੈਦ ਨੋ ਵਿਣੁ ਸੰਜਮਿ ਨਿਤ ਰੋਗੁ ਵਧੰਦਾ ।

For want of temperance the malady of the patient goes on increasing day and night.
