ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

ik oankaar satigur prasaad |

ਤੁਝਹਿ ਸੁਝੰਤਾ ਕਛੂ ਨਾਹਿ ॥

tujheh sujhantaa kachhoo naeh |

You know nothing.

ਪਹਿਰਾਵਾ ਦੇਖੇ ਊਭਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

pahiraavaa dekhe aoobh jaeh |

Seeing your clothes, you are so proud of yourself.

ਗਰਬਵਤੀ ਕਾ ਨਾਹੀ ਠਾਉ ॥

garabavatee kaa naahee tthaau |

The proud bride shall not find a place with the Lord.

ਤੇਰੀ ਗਰਦਨਿ ਊਪਰਿ ਲਵੈ ਕਾਉ ॥੧॥

teree garadan aoopar lavai kaau |1|

Above your head, the crow of death is cawing. ||1||

ਤੂ ਕਾਂਇ ਗਰਬਹਿ ਬਾਵਲੀ ॥

too kaane garabeh baavalee |

Why are you so proud? You are insane.

ਜੈਸੇ ਭਾਦਉ ਖੂੰਬਰਾਜੁ ਤੂ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਖਰੀ ਉਤਾਵਲੀ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

jaise bhaadau khoonbaraaj too tis te kharee utaavalee |1| rahaau |

Even the mushrooms of summer live longer than you. ||1||Pause||

ਜੈਸੇ ਕੁਰੰਕ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਇਓ ਭੇਦੁ ॥

jaise kurank nahee paaeo bhed |

The deer does not know the secret;

ਤਨਿ ਸੁਗੰਧ ਢੂਢੈ ਪ੍ਰਦੇਸੁ ॥

tan sugandh dtoodtai prades |

the musk is within its own body, but it searches for it outside.

ਅਪ ਤਨ ਕਾ ਜੋ ਕਰੇ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥

ap tan kaa jo kare beechaar |

Whoever reflects on his own body

ਤਿਸੁ ਨਹੀ ਜਮਕੰਕਰੁ ਕਰੇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੨॥

tis nahee jamakankar kare khuaar |2|

- the Messenger of Death does not abuse him. ||2||

ਪੁਤ੍ਰ ਕਲਤ੍ਰ ਕਾ ਕਰਹਿ ਅਹੰਕਾਰੁ ॥

putr kalatr kaa kareh ahankaar |

The man is so proud of his sons and his wife;

ਠਾਕੁਰੁ ਲੇਖਾ ਮਗਨਹਾਰੁ ॥

tthaakur lekhaa maganahaar |

his Lord and Master shall call for his account.

ਫੇੜੇ ਕਾ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਹੈ ਜੀਉ ॥

ferre kaa dukh sahai jeeo |

The soul suffers in pain for the actions it has committed.

ਪਾਛੇ ਕਿਸਹਿ ਪੁਕਾਰਹਿ ਪੀਉ ਪੀਉ ॥੩॥

paachhe kiseh pukaareh peeo peeo |3|

Afterwards, whom shall you call, "Dear, Dear." ||3||

ਸਾਧੂ ਕੀ ਜਉ ਲੇਹਿ ਓਟ ॥

saadhoo kee jau lehi ott |

If you seek the Support of the Holy,

ਤੇਰੇ ਮਿਟਹਿ ਪਾਪ ਸਭ ਕੋਟਿ ਕੋਟਿ ॥

tere mitteh paap sabh kott kott |

millions upon millions of your sins shall be totally erased.

ਕਹਿ ਰਵਿਦਾਸ ਜੋੁ ਜਪੈ ਨਾਮੁ ॥

keh ravidaas jo japai naam |

Says Ravi Daas, one who chants the Naam, the Name of the Lord,

ਤਿਸੁ ਜਾਤਿ ਨ ਜਨਮੁ ਨ ਜੋਨਿ ਕਾਮੁ ॥੪॥੧॥

tis jaat na janam na jon kaam |4|1|

is not concerned with social class, birth and rebirth. ||4||1||
