BHUJANG PRAYAAT STANZA

jayo jaamadaganan dijan aavataaree |
bhayo renukaa te kavaachee kutthaaree |
Hail, hail to the incarnation-like sage Yamadagni, through whose wife Renuka was born the wearer of armour and carrier of axe (that is Parashurama)
dhariyo chhatreeyaa paat ko kaal roopan |

He manifested himself as death for the Kshatriyas and destroyed the king named Sahasrabadhu.5.
kahaa gam etee kathaa sarab bhaakhau |
kathaa bridh te thoreeai baat raakhau |
I have not the requisite wisdom to describe the whole story, therefore fearing lest it may not become voluminous, I say it very briefly:
bhare garab chhatree naresan apaaran |
tinai naas ko paan dhaariyo kutthaaran |6|
The Kshatriya king had been intoxicated with pride and in order to destroy them, Parashurama held up the axe in his hand.6.
hutee nandanee sindh jaa kee suputree |
tisai maag haariyo sahansaasatr chhatree |
Nandini, the wish-fulfilling cow like the daughter of Yamadagni and the Kshatriya Sahasrabahu had got tired in begging it from the sage.
leeyo chheen gaayan hatiyo raam taatan |
tisee bair keene sabai bhoop paatan |7|
Ultimately, he snatched away the cow and killed Yamadagni and in order to wreak his vengeance, Parashurama destroyed all the Kshatriya kings.7.
gee baal taa te leeyo sodh taa ko |

Form the very childhood Parashurama had been quite inquisitive in his mind about the identity of the killer of his father

And when he came to know that it was the king Sahasrabahu, he moved towards his place with his arms and weapons.8.
kaho raaj mero haniyo taat kaise |
Parashurama said to the king, “O king how hast thou killed my father?
abai judh jeeto hano tohi taise |
Now I want to wage war with you in order to kill you”
kahaa moorr baittho su asatran sanbhaaro |
chalo bhaaj naa to sabai sasatr ddaaro |9|
He also said, “O fool, hold your weapons, otherwise forsaking them, run away from this place.”9.
sune bol banke bhariyo bhoop kopan |
autthiyo raaj saradool lai paan dhopan |
Hearing these ironical words, the king was filled with fury and holding his weapons in his hands, got up like a lion.
hatthiyo khet khoonee dijan khetr haayo |
chahe aaj hee judh mo so machaayo |10|
He came to the arena of battle with determination, knowing that the Brahmin Parashurama was desirous of fighting with him on the same day.10.
dhe soor saraban sune bain raajan |

gadaa saihathee sool selan sanbhaaree |
chale judh kaajan badde chhatradhaaree |11|
Holding firmly their tridents, lances, maces etc., the great canopied kings moved forward for waging war.11.
