ੴ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪ੍ਰਸਾਦਿ ॥

One Universal Creator God. By The Grace Of The True Guru:
ਵਡਭਾਗੀਆ ਸੋਹਾਗਣੀ ਜਿਨੑਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਰਾਇ ॥
vaddabhaageea sohaaganee jinaa guramukh miliaa har raae |
Blessed and very fortunate are those happy soul-brides who, as Gurmukh, meet their Sovereign Lord King.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਤਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੀਆ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਇ ॥੧॥
antar jot paragaaseea naanak naam samaae |1|
The Light of God shines within them; O Nanak, they are absorbed in the Naam, the Name of the Lord. ||1||
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਨਿ ਸਚੁ ਜਾਤਾ ਸੋਇ ॥
vaahu vaahu satigur purakh hai jin sach jaataa soe |
Waaho! Waaho! Blessed and Great is the True Guru, the Primal Being, who has realized the True Lord.
ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਤਿਖ ਉਤਰੈ ਤਨੁ ਮਨੁ ਸੀਤਲੁ ਹੋਇ ॥
jit miliai tikh utarai tan man seetal hoe |
Meeting Him, thirst is quenched, and the body and mind are cooled and soothed.
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸਤਿ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸ ਨੋ ਸਮਤੁ ਸਭ ਕੋਇ ॥
vaahu vaahu satigur sat purakh hai jis no samat sabh koe |
Waaho! Waaho! Blessed and Great is the True Guru, the True Primal Being, who looks upon all alike.
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਿਰਵੈਰੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਨਿੰਦਾ ਉਸਤਤਿ ਤੁਲਿ ਹੋਇ ॥
vaahu vaahu satigur niravair hai jis nindaa usatat tul hoe |
Waaho! Waaho! Blessed and Great is the True Guru, who has no hatred; slander and praise are all the same to Him.
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੁਜਾਣੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
vaahu vaahu satigur sujaan hai jis antar braham veechaar |
Waaho! Waaho! Blessed and Great is the All-knowing True Guru, who has realized God within.
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਨਿਰੰਕਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਜਿਸੁ ਅੰਤੁ ਨ ਪਾਰਾਵਾਰੁ ॥
vaahu vaahu satigur nirankaar hai jis ant na paaraavaar |
Waaho! Waaho! Blessed and Great is the Formless True Guru, who has no end or limitation.
ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੂ ਹੈ ਜਿ ਸਚੁ ਦ੍ਰਿੜਾਏ ਸੋਇ ॥
vaahu vaahu satiguroo hai ji sach drirraae soe |
Waaho! Waaho! Blessed and Great is the True Guru, who implants the Truth within.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਾਹੁ ਵਾਹੁ ਜਿਸ ਤੇ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥੨॥
naanak satigur vaahu vaahu jis te naam paraapat hoe |2|
O Nanak, Blessed and Great is the True Guru, through whom the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is received. ||2||
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਸਚਾ ਸੋਹਿਲਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੋਵਿੰਦੁ ॥
har prabh sachaa sohilaa guramukh naam govind |
For the Gurmukh, the true Song of Praise is to chant the Name of the Lord God.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਣਾ ਹਰਿ ਜਪਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਨੰਦੁ ॥
anadin naam salaahanaa har japiaa man aanand |
Chanting the Praises of the Lord, their minds are in ecstasy.
ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਇਆ ਪੂਰਨ ਪਰਮਾਨੰਦੁ ॥
vaddabhaagee har paaeaa pooran paramaanand |
By great good fortune, they find the Lord, the Embodiment of perfect, supreme bliss.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕ ਨਾਮੁ ਸਲਾਹਿਆ ਬਹੁੜਿ ਨ ਮਨਿ ਤਨਿ ਭੰਗੁ ॥੩॥
jan naanak naam salaahiaa bahurr na man tan bhang |3|
Servant Nanak praises the Naam, the Name of the Lord; no obstacle will block his mind or body. ||3||
ਮੂੰ ਪਿਰੀਆ ਸਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਕਿਉ ਸਜਣ ਮਿਲਹਿ ਪਿਆਰਿਆ ॥
moon pireea sau nehu kiau sajan mileh piaariaa |
I am in love with my Beloved; how can I meet my Dear Friend?
ਹਉ ਢੂਢੇਦੀ ਤਿਨ ਸਜਣ ਸਚਿ ਸਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
hau dtoodtedee tin sajan sach savaariaa |
I seek that friend, who is embellished with Truth.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੈਡਾ ਮਿਤੁ ਹੈ ਜੇ ਮਿਲੈ ਤ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਵਾਰਿਆ ॥
satigur maiddaa mit hai je milai ta ihu man vaariaa |
The True Guru is my Friend; if I meet Him, I will offer this mind as a sacrifice to Him.
ਦੇਂਦਾ ਮੂੰ ਪਿਰੁ ਦਸਿ ਹਰਿ ਸਜਣੁ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਿਆ ॥
dendaa moon pir das har sajan sirajanahaariaa |
He has shown me my Beloved Lord, my Friend, the Creator.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਉ ਪਿਰੁ ਭਾਲੀ ਆਪਣਾ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਨਾਲਿ ਦਿਖਾਲਿਆ ॥੪॥
naanak hau pir bhaalee aapanaa satigur naal dikhaaliaa |4|
O Nanak, I was searching for my Beloved; the True Guru has shown me that He has been with me all the time. ||4||
ਹਉ ਖੜੀ ਨਿਹਾਲੀ ਪੰਧੁ ਮਤੁ ਮੂੰ ਸਜਣੁ ਆਵਏ ॥
hau kharree nihaalee pandh mat moon sajan aave |
I stand by the side of the road, waiting for You; O my Friend, I hope that You will come.
ਕੋ ਆਣਿ ਮਿਲਾਵੈ ਅਜੁ ਮੈ ਪਿਰੁ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਵਏ ॥
ko aan milaavai aj mai pir mel milaave |
If only someone would come today and unite me in Union with my Beloved.
ਹਉ ਜੀਉ ਕਰੀ ਤਿਸ ਵਿਟਉ ਚਉ ਖੰਨੀਐ ਜੋ ਮੈ ਪਿਰੀ ਦਿਖਾਵਏ ॥
hau jeeo karee tis vittau chau khaneeai jo mai piree dikhaave |
I would cut my living body into four pieces for anyone who shows me my Beloved.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਹੋਇ ਦਇਆਲੁ ਤਾਂ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਮੇਲਾਵਏ ॥੫॥
naanak har hoe deaal taan gur pooraa melaave |5|
O Nanak, when the Lord becomes merciful, then He leads us to meet the Perfect Guru. ||5||
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਜੋਰੁ ਹਉਮੈ ਤਨਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਕੂੜੀ ਆਵੈ ਜਾਇ ॥
antar jor haumai tan maaeaa koorree aavai jaae |
The power of egotism prevails within, and the body is controlled by Maya; the false ones come and go in reincarnation.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਫੁਰਮਾਇਆ ਮੰਨਿ ਨ ਸਕੀ ਦੁਤਰੁ ਤਰਿਆ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
satigur kaa furamaaeaa man na sakee dutar tariaa na jaae |
If someone does not obey the Command of the True Guru, he cannot cross over the treacherous world-ocean.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਸੋ ਚਲੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥
nadar kare jis aapanee so chalai satigur bhaae |
Whoever is blessed with the Lord's Glance of Grace, walks in harmony with the Will of the True Guru.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸਨੁ ਸਫਲੁ ਹੈ ਜੋ ਇਛੈ ਸੋ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇ ॥
satigur kaa darasan safal hai jo ichhai so fal paae |
The Blessed Vision of the True Guru's Darshan is fruitful; through it, one obtains the fruits of his desires.
ਜਿਨੀ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਮੰਨਿਆਂ ਹਉ ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਲਾਗਉ ਪਾਇ ॥
jinee satigur maniaan hau tin ke laagau paae |
I touch the feet of those who believe in and obey the True Guru.
ਨਾਨਕੁ ਤਾ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਜਿ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਹੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥੬॥
naanak taa kaa daas hai ji anadin rahai liv laae |6|
Nanak is the slave of those who, night and day, remain lovingly attuned to the Lord. ||6||
ਜਿਨਾ ਪਿਰੀ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਬਿਨੁ ਦਰਸਨ ਕਿਉ ਤ੍ਰਿਪਤੀਐ ॥
jinaa piree piaar bin darasan kiau tripateeai |
Those who are in love with their Beloved - how can they find satisfaction without His Darshan?
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲੇ ਸੁਭਾਇ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਰਹਸੀਐ ॥੭॥
naanak mile subhaae guramukh ihu man rahaseeai |7|
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs meet Him with ease, and this mind blossoms forth in joy. ||7||
ਜਿਨਾ ਪਿਰੀ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਕਿਉ ਜੀਵਨਿ ਪਿਰ ਬਾਹਰੇ ॥
jinaa piree piaar kiau jeevan pir baahare |
Those who are in love with their Beloved - how can they live without Him?
ਜਾਂ ਸਹੁ ਦੇਖਨਿ ਆਪਣਾ ਨਾਨਕ ਥੀਵਨਿ ਭੀ ਹਰੇ ॥੮॥
jaan sahu dekhan aapanaa naanak theevan bhee hare |8|
When they see their Husband Lord, O Nanak, they are rejuvenated. ||8||
ਜਿਨਾ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨੇਹੁ ਤੈ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮ ਸਚੈ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
jinaa guramukh andar nehu tai preetam sachai laaeaa |
Those Gurmukhs who are filled with love for You, my True Beloved,
ਰਾਤੀ ਅਤੈ ਡੇਹੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੯॥
raatee atai ddehu naanak prem samaaeaa |9|
O Nanak, remain immersed in the Lord's Love, night and day. ||9||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਸਚੀ ਆਸਕੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਮੁ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
guramukh sachee aasakee jit preetam sachaa paaeeai |
The love of the Gurmukh is true; through it, the True Beloved is attained.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਰਹਹਿ ਅਨੰਦਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਸਹਜਿ ਸਮਾਈਐ ॥੧੦॥
anadin raheh anand naanak sehaj samaaeeai |10|
Night and day, remain in bliss, O Nanak, immersed in intuitive peace and poise. ||10||
ਸਚਾ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਈਐ ॥
sachaa prem piaar gur poore te paaeeai |
True love and affection are obtained from the Perfect Guru.
ਕਬਹੂ ਨ ਹੋਵੈ ਭੰਗੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੧੧॥
kabahoo na hovai bhang naanak har gun gaaeeai |11|
They never break, O Nanak, if one sings the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||11||
ਜਿਨੑਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਸਚਾ ਨੇਹੁ ਕਿਉ ਜੀਵਨੑਿ ਪਿਰੀ ਵਿਹੂਣਿਆ ॥
jinaa andar sachaa nehu kiau jeevana piree vihooniaa |
How can those who have true love within them live without their Husband Lord?
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਆਪਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਚਿਰੀ ਵਿਛੁੰਨਿਆ ॥੧੨॥
guramukh mele aap naanak chiree vichhuniaa |12|
The Lord unites the Gurmukhs with Himself, O Nanak; they were separated from Him for such a long time. ||12||
ਜਿਨ ਕਉ ਪ੍ਰੇਮ ਪਿਆਰੁ ਤਉ ਆਪੇ ਲਾਇਆ ਕਰਮੁ ਕਰਿ ॥
jin kau prem piaar tau aape laaeaa karam kar |
You grant Your Grace to those whom You Yourself bless with love and affection.
ਨਾਨਕ ਲੇਹੁ ਮਿਲਾਇ ਮੈ ਜਾਚਿਕ ਦੀਜੈ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ॥੧੩॥
naanak lehu milaae mai jaachik deejai naam har |13|
O Lord, please let Nanak meet with You; please bless this beggar with Your Name. ||13||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹਸੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਰੋਵੈ ॥
guramukh hasai guramukh rovai |
The Gurmukh laughs, and the Gurmukh cries.
ਜਿ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਕਰੇ ਸਾਈ ਭਗਤਿ ਹੋਵੈ ॥
ji guramukh kare saaee bhagat hovai |
Whatever the Gurmukh does, is devotional worship.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੋਵੈ ਸੁ ਕਰੇ ਵੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
guramukh hovai su kare veechaar |
Whoever becomes Gurmukh contemplates the Lord.
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਾਨਕ ਪਾਵੈ ਪਾਰੁ ॥੧੪॥
guramukh naanak paavai paar |14|
The Gurmukh, O Nanak, crosses over to the other shore. ||14||
ਜਿਨਾ ਅੰਦਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ ਵੀਚਾਰਿ ॥
jinaa andar naam nidhaan hai gurabaanee veechaar |
Those who have the Naam within, contemplate the Word of the Guru's Bani.
ਤਿਨ ਕੇ ਮੁਖ ਸਦ ਉਜਲੇ ਤਿਤੁ ਸਚੈ ਦਰਬਾਰਿ ॥
tin ke mukh sad ujale tith sachai darabaar |
Their faces are always radiant in the Court of the True Lord.
ਤਿਨ ਬਹਦਿਆ ਉਠਦਿਆ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਵਿਸਰੈ ਜਿ ਆਪਿ ਬਖਸੇ ਕਰਤਾਰਿ ॥
tin bahadiaa utthadiaa kade na visarai ji aap bakhase karataar |
Sitting down and standing up, they never forget the Creator, who forgives them.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਮਿਲੇ ਨ ਵਿਛੁੜਹਿ ਜਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਸਿਰਜਣਹਾਰਿ ॥੧੫॥
naanak guramukh mile na vichhurreh ji mele sirajanahaar |15|
O Nanak, the Gurmukhs are united with the Lord. Those united by the Creator Lord, shall never be separated again. ||15||
ਗੁਰ ਪੀਰਾਂ ਕੀ ਚਾਕਰੀ ਮਹਾਂ ਕਰੜੀ ਸੁਖ ਸਾਰੁ ॥
gur peeraan kee chaakaree mahaan kararree sukh saar |
To work for the Guru, or a spiritual teacher, is terribly difficult, but it brings the most excellent peace.
ਨਦਰਿ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਸੁ ਆਪਣੀ ਤਿਸੁ ਲਾਏ ਹੇਤ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
nadar kare jis aapanee tis laae het piaar |
The Lord casts His Glance of Grace, and inspires love and affection.
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੀ ਸੇਵੈ ਲਗਿਆ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਤਰੈ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ॥
satigur kee sevai lagiaa bhaujal tarai sansaar |
Joined to the service of the True Guru, the mortal being crosses over the terrifying world-ocean.
ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਇਸੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਿਬੇਕ ਬੀਚਾਰੁ ॥
man chindiaa fal paaeisee antar bibek beechaar |
The fruits of the mind's desires are obtained, with clear contemplation and discriminating understanding within.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਪਾਈਐ ਸਭੁ ਦੂਖ ਨਿਵਾਰਣਹਾਰੁ ॥੧੬॥
naanak satigur miliai prabh paaeeai sabh dookh nivaaranahaar |16|
O Nanak, meeting the True Guru, God is found; He is the Eradicator of all sorrow. ||16||
ਮਨਮੁਖ ਸੇਵਾ ਜੋ ਕਰੇ ਦੂਜੈ ਭਾਇ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
manamukh sevaa jo kare doojai bhaae chit laae |
The self-willed manmukh may perform service, but his consciousness is attached to the love of duality.
ਪੁਤੁ ਕਲਤੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਹੈ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਵਧਾਇ ॥
put kalat kuttanb hai maaeaa mohu vadhaae |
Through Maya, his emotional attachment to children, spouse and relatives increases.
ਦਰਗਹਿ ਲੇਖਾ ਮੰਗੀਐ ਕੋਈ ਅੰਤਿ ਨ ਸਕੀ ਛਡਾਇ ॥
darageh lekhaa mangeeai koee ant na sakee chhaddaae |
He shall be called to account in the Court of the Lord, and in the end, no one will be able to save him.
ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਸਭੁ ਦੁਖੁ ਹੈ ਦੁਖਦਾਈ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇ ॥
bin naavai sabh dukh hai dukhadaaee moh maae |
Without the Lord's Name, all is pain. Attachment to Maya is agonizingly painful.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਨਦਰੀ ਆਇਆ ਮੋਹ ਮਾਇਆ ਵਿਛੁੜਿ ਸਭ ਜਾਇ ॥੧੭॥
naanak guramukh nadaree aaeaa moh maaeaa vichhurr sabh jaae |17|
O Nanak, the Gurmukh comes to see, that attachment to Maya separates all from the Lord. ||17||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਮੰਨੇ ਸਹ ਕੇਰਾ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਹੀ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
guramukh hukam mane seh keraa hukame hee sukh paae |
The Gurmukh obeys the Order of her Husband Lord God; through the Hukam of His Command, she finds peace.
ਹੁਕਮੋ ਸੇਵੇ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਅਰਾਧੇ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਸਮੈ ਸਮਾਏ ॥
hukamo seve hukam araadhe hukame samai samaae |
In His Will, she serves; in His Will, she worship and adores Him.
ਹੁਕਮੁ ਵਰਤੁ ਨੇਮੁ ਸੁਚ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਮਨ ਚਿੰਦਿਆ ਫਲੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
hukam varat nem such sanjam man chindiaa fal paae |
In His Will, she merges in absorption. His Will is her fast, vow, purity and self-discipline; through it, she obtains the fruits of her mind's desires.
ਸਦਾ ਸੁਹਾਗਣਿ ਜਿ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੁਝੈ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਸੇਵੈ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਏ ॥
sadaa suhaagan ji hukamai bujhai satigur sevai liv laae |
She is always and forever the happy, pure soul-bride, who realizes His Will; she serves the True Guru, inspired by loving absorption.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾ ਕਰੇ ਜਿਨ ਊਪਰਿ ਤਿਨਾ ਹੁਕਮੇ ਲਏ ਮਿਲਾਏ ॥੧੮॥
naanak kripaa kare jin aoopar tinaa hukame le milaae |18|
O Nanak, those upon whom the Lord showers His Mercy, are merged and immersed in His Will. ||18||
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੁਝੇ ਬਪੁੜੀ ਨਿਤ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
manamukh hukam na bujhe bapurree nit haumai karam kamaae |
The wretched, self-willed manmukhs do not realize His Will; they continually act in ego.
ਵਰਤ ਨੇਮੁ ਸੁਚ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਪੂਜਾ ਪਾਖੰਡਿ ਭਰਮੁ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
varat nem such sanjam poojaa paakhandd bharam na jaae |
By ritualistic fasts, vows, purities, self-disciplines and worship ceremonies, they still cannot get rid of their hypocrisy and doubt.
ਅੰਤਰਹੁ ਕੁਸੁਧੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹਿ ਬੇਧੇ ਜਿਉ ਹਸਤੀ ਛਾਰੁ ਉਡਾਏ ॥
antarahu kusudh maaeaa mohi bedhe jiau hasatee chhaar uddaae |
Inwardly, they are impure, pierced through by attachment to Maya; they are like elephants, who throw dirt all over themselves right after their bath.
ਜਿਨਿ ਉਪਾਏ ਤਿਸੈ ਨ ਚੇਤਹਿ ਬਿਨੁ ਚੇਤੇ ਕਿਉ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਏ ॥
jin upaae tisai na cheteh bin chete kiau sukh paae |
They do not even think of the One who created them. Without thinking of Him, they cannot find peace.
ਨਾਨਕ ਪਰਪੰਚੁ ਕੀਆ ਧੁਰਿ ਕਰਤੈ ਪੂਰਬਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਕਮਾਏ ॥੧੯॥
naanak parapanch keea dhur karatai poorab likhiaa kamaae |19|
O Nanak, the Primal Creator has made the drama of the Universe; all act as they are pre-ordained. ||19||
ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਰਤੀਤਿ ਭਈ ਮਨੁ ਮਾਨਿਆ ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਤ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
guramukh parateet bhee man maaniaa anadin sevaa karat samaae |
The Gurmukh has faith; his mind is contented and satisfied. Night and day, he serves the Lord, absorbed in Him.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਗੁਰੂ ਸਭ ਪੂਜੇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕਾ ਦਰਸੁ ਦੇਖੈ ਸਭ ਆਇ ॥
antar satigur guroo sabh pooje satigur kaa daras dekhai sabh aae |
The Guru, the True Guru, is within; all worship and adore Him. Everyone comes to see the Blessed Vision of His Darshan.
ਮੰਨੀਐ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪਰਮ ਬੀਚਾਰੀ ਜਿਤੁ ਮਿਲਿਐ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਭੁਖ ਸਭ ਜਾਇ ॥
maneeai satigur param beechaaree jit miliai tisanaa bhukh sabh jaae |
So believe in the True Guru, the supreme sublime Contemplator. Meeting with Him, hunger and thirst are completely relieved.
ਹਉ ਸਦਾ ਸਦਾ ਬਲਿਹਾਰੀ ਗੁਰ ਅਪੁਨੇ ਜੋ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਸਚਾ ਦੇਇ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
hau sadaa sadaa balihaaree gur apune jo prabh sachaa dee milaae |
I am forever a sacrifice to my Guru, who leads me to meet the True Lord God.
ਨਾਨਕ ਕਰਮੁ ਪਾਇਆ ਤਿਨ ਸਚਾ ਜੋ ਗੁਰ ਚਰਣੀ ਲਗੇ ਆਇ ॥੨੦॥
naanak karam paaeaa tin sachaa jo gur charanee lage aae |20|
O Nanak, those who come and fall at the Feet of the Guru are blessed with the karma of Truth. ||20||
ਜਿਨ ਪਿਰੀਆ ਸਉ ਨੇਹੁ ਸੇ ਸਜਣ ਮੈ ਨਾਲਿ ॥
jin pireea sau nehu se sajan mai naal |
That Beloved, with whom I am in love, that Friend of mine is with me.
ਅੰਤਰਿ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਹਉ ਫਿਰਾਂ ਭੀ ਹਿਰਦੈ ਰਖਾ ਸਮਾਲਿ ॥੨੧॥
antar baahar hau firaan bhee hiradai rakhaa samaal |21|
I wander around inside and outside, but I always keep Him enshrined within my heart. ||21||
ਜਿਨਾ ਇਕ ਮਨਿ ਇਕ ਚਿਤਿ ਧਿਆਇਆ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਉ ਚਿਤੁ ਲਾਇ ॥
jinaa ik man ik chit dhiaaeaa satigur sau chit laae |
Those who meditate on the Lord single-mindedly, with one-pointed concentration, link their consciousness to the True Guru.
ਤਿਨ ਕੀ ਦੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਹਉਮੈ ਵਡਾ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਇਆ ਨਿਰਦੋਖ ਭਏ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਇ ॥
tin kee dukh bhukh haumai vaddaa rog geaa niradokh bhe liv laae |
They are rid of pain, hunger, and the great illness of egotism; lovingly attuned to the Lord, they become free of pain.
ਗੁਣ ਗਾਵਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਉਚਰਹਿ ਗੁਣ ਮਹਿ ਸਵੈ ਸਮਾਇ ॥
gun gaaveh gun uchareh gun meh savai samaae |
They sing His Praises, and chant His Praises; in His Glorious Praises, they sleep in absorption.
ਨਾਨਕ ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਸਹਜਿ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਪ੍ਰਭੁ ਆਇ ॥੨੨॥
naanak gur poore te paaeaa sehaj miliaa prabh aae |22|
O Nanak, through the Perfect Guru, they come to meet God with intuitive peace and poise. ||22||
ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਮਾਇਆ ਮੋਹੁ ਹੈ ਨਾਮਿ ਨ ਲਗੈ ਪਿਆਰੁ ॥
manamukh maaeaa mohu hai naam na lagai piaar |
The self-willed manmukhs are emotionally attached to Maya; they are not in love with the Naam.
ਕੂੜੁ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਕੂੜੁ ਸੰਘਰੈ ਕੂੜਿ ਕਰੈ ਆਹਾਰੁ ॥
koorr kamaavai koorr sangharai koorr karai aahaar |
They practice falsehood, gather falsehood, and eat the food of falsehood.
ਬਿਖੁ ਮਾਇਆ ਧਨੁ ਸੰਚਿ ਮਰਹਿ ਅੰਤਿ ਹੋਇ ਸਭੁ ਛਾਰੁ ॥
bikh maaeaa dhan sanch mareh ant hoe sabh chhaar |
Gathering the poisonous wealth and property of Maya, they die; in the end, they are all reduced to ashes.
ਕਰਮ ਧਰਮ ਸੁਚਿ ਸੰਜਮੁ ਕਰਹਿ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਲੋਭੁ ਵਿਕਾਰ ॥
karam dharam such sanjam kareh antar lobh vikaar |
They perform religious rituals of purity and self-discipline, but they are filled with greed, evil and corruption.
ਨਾਨਕ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਜਿ ਕਮਾਵੈ ਸੁ ਥਾਇ ਨ ਪਵੈ ਦਰਗਹ ਹੋਇ ਖੁਆਰੁ ॥੨੩॥
naanak manamukh ji kamaavai su thaae na pavai daragah hoe khuaar |23|
O Nanak, the actions of the self-willed manmukhs are not accepted; in the Court of the Lord, they are miserable. ||23||
ਸਭਨਾ ਰਾਗਾਂ ਵਿਚਿ ਸੋ ਭਲਾ ਭਾਈ ਜਿਤੁ ਵਸਿਆ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
sabhanaa raagaan vich so bhalaa bhaaee jit vasiaa man aae |
Among all Ragas, that one is sublime, O Siblings of Destiny, by which the Lord comes to abide in the mind.
ਰਾਗੁ ਨਾਦੁ ਸਭੁ ਸਚੁ ਹੈ ਕੀਮਤਿ ਕਹੀ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
raag naad sabh sach hai keemat kahee na jaae |
Those Ragas which are in the Sound-current of the Naad are totally true; their value cannot be expressed.
ਰਾਗੈ ਨਾਦੈ ਬਾਹਰਾ ਇਨੀ ਹੁਕਮੁ ਨ ਬੂਝਿਆ ਜਾਇ ॥
raagai naadai baaharaa inee hukam na boojhiaa jaae |
Those Ragas which are not in the Sound-current of the Naad - by these, the Lord's Will cannot be understood.
ਨਾਨਕ ਹੁਕਮੈ ਬੂਝੈ ਤਿਨਾ ਰਾਸਿ ਹੋਇ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਤੇ ਸੋਝੀ ਪਾਇ ॥
naanak hukamai boojhai tinaa raas hoe satigur te sojhee paae |
O Nanak, they alone are right, who understand the Will of the True Guru.
ਸਭੁ ਕਿਛੁ ਤਿਸ ਤੇ ਹੋਇਆ ਜਿਉ ਤਿਸੈ ਦੀ ਰਜਾਇ ॥੨੪॥
sabh kichh tis te hoeaa jiau tisai dee rajaae |24|
Everything happens as He wills. ||24||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਵਿਚਿ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਨਾਮੁ ਹੈ ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤੁ ਕਹੈ ਕਹਾਇ ॥
satigur vich amrit naam hai amrit kahai kahaae |
The Ambrosial Nectar of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, is within the True Guru.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਰਮਲੋੁ ਨਿਰਮਲ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ॥
guramatee naam niramalo niramal naam dhiaae |
Following the Guru's Teachings, one meditates on the Immaculate Naam, the Pure and Holy Naam.
ਅੰਮ੍ਰਿਤ ਬਾਣੀ ਤਤੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਵਸੈ ਮਨਿ ਆਇ ॥
amrit baanee tat hai guramukh vasai man aae |
The Ambrosial Word of His Bani is the true essence. It comes to abide in the mind of the Gurmukh.
ਹਿਰਦੈ ਕਮਲੁ ਪਰਗਾਸਿਆ ਜੋਤੀ ਜੋਤਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥
hiradai kamal paragaasiaa jotee jot milaae |
The heart-lotus blossoms forth, and one's light merges in the Light.
ਨਾਨਕ ਸਤਿਗੁਰੁ ਤਿਨ ਕਉ ਮੇਲਿਓਨੁ ਜਿਨ ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਭਾਗੁ ਲਿਖਾਇ ॥੨੫॥
naanak satigur tin kau melion jin dhur masatak bhaag likhaae |25|
O Nanak, they alone meet with the True Guru, who have such pre-ordained destiny inscribed upon their foreheads. ||25||
ਅੰਦਰਿ ਤਿਸਨਾ ਅਗਿ ਹੈ ਮਨਮੁਖ ਭੁਖ ਨ ਜਾਇ ॥
andar tisanaa ag hai manamukh bhukh na jaae |
Within the self-willed manmukhs is the fire of desire; their hunger does not depart.
ਮੋਹੁ ਕੁਟੰਬੁ ਸਭੁ ਕੂੜੁ ਹੈ ਕੂੜਿ ਰਹਿਆ ਲਪਟਾਇ ॥
mohu kuttanb sabh koorr hai koorr rahiaa lapattaae |
Emotional attachments to relatives are totally false; they remain engrossed in falsehood.
ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਚਿੰਤਵੈ ਚਿੰਤਾ ਬਧਾ ਜਾਇ ॥
anadin chintaa chintavai chintaa badhaa jaae |
Night and day, they are troubled by anxiety; bound to anxiety, they depart.
ਜੰਮਣੁ ਮਰਣੁ ਨ ਚੁਕਈ ਹਉਮੈ ਕਰਮ ਕਮਾਇ ॥
jaman maran na chukee haumai karam kamaae |
Their comings and goings in reincarnation never end; they do their deeds in egotism.
ਗੁਰ ਸਰਣਾਈ ਉਬਰੈ ਨਾਨਕ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਇ ॥੨੬॥
gur saranaaee ubarai naanak le chhaddaae |26|
But in the Guru's Sanctuary, they are saved, O Nanak, and set free. ||26||
ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਹਰਿ ਧਿਆਇਦਾ ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਭਾਇ ॥
satigur purakh har dhiaaeidaa satasangat satigur bhaae |
The True Guru meditates on the Lord, the Primal Being. The Sat Sangat, the True Congregation, loves the True Guru.
ਸਤਸੰਗਤਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸੇਵਦੇ ਹਰਿ ਮੇਲੇ ਗੁਰੁ ਮੇਲਾਇ ॥
satasangat satigur sevade har mele gur melaae |
Those who join the Sat Sangat, and serve the True Guru - the Guru unites them in the Lord's Union.
ਏਹੁ ਭਉਜਲੁ ਜਗਤੁ ਸੰਸਾਰੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰੁ ਬੋਹਿਥੁ ਨਾਮਿ ਤਰਾਇ ॥
ehu bhaujal jagat sansaar hai gur bohith naam taraae |
This world, this universe, is a terrifying ocean. On the Boat of the Naam, the Name of the Lord, the Guru carries us across.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖੀ ਭਾਣਾ ਮੰਨਿਆ ਗੁਰੁ ਪੂਰਾ ਪਾਰਿ ਲੰਘਾਇ ॥
gurasikhee bhaanaa maniaa gur pooraa paar langhaae |
The Sikhs of the Guru accept and obey the Lord's Will; the Perfect Guru carries them across.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾਂ ਕੀ ਹਰਿ ਧੂੜਿ ਦੇਹਿ ਹਮ ਪਾਪੀ ਭੀ ਗਤਿ ਪਾਂਹਿ ॥
gurasikhaan kee har dhoorr dehi ham paapee bhee gat paanhi |
O Lord, please bless me with the dust of the feet of the Guru's Sikhs. I am a sinner - please save me.
ਧੁਰਿ ਮਸਤਕਿ ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਭ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਗੁਰ ਨਾਨਕ ਮਿਲਿਆ ਆਇ ॥
dhur masatak har prabh likhiaa gur naanak miliaa aae |
Those who have such pre-ordained destiny written upon their foreheads by the Lord God, come to meet Guru Nanak.
ਜਮਕੰਕਰ ਮਾਰਿ ਬਿਦਾਰਿਅਨੁ ਹਰਿ ਦਰਗਹ ਲਏ ਛਡਾਇ ॥
jamakankar maar bidaarian har daragah le chhaddaae |
The Messenger of Death is beaten and driven away; we are saved in the Court of the Lord.
ਗੁਰਸਿਖਾ ਨੋ ਸਾਬਾਸਿ ਹੈ ਹਰਿ ਤੁਠਾ ਮੇਲਿ ਮਿਲਾਇ ॥੨੭॥
gurasikhaa no saabaas hai har tutthaa mel milaae |27|
Blessed and celebrated are the Sikhs of the Guru; in His Pleasure, the Lord unites them in His Union. ||27||
ਗੁਰਿ ਪੂਰੈ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ਜਿਨਿ ਵਿਚਹੁ ਭਰਮੁ ਚੁਕਾਇਆ ॥
gur poorai har naam dirraaeaa jin vichahu bharam chukaaeaa |
The Perfect Guru has implanted the Lord's Name within me; it has dispelled my doubts from within.
ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮੁ ਹਰਿ ਕੀਰਤਿ ਗਾਇ ਕਰਿ ਚਾਨਣੁ ਮਗੁ ਦੇਖਾਇਆ ॥
raam naam har keerat gaae kar chaanan mag dekhaaeaa |
Singing the Kirtan of the Praises of the Lord's Name, the Lord's path is illuminated and shown to His Sikhs.
ਹਉਮੈ ਮਾਰਿ ਏਕ ਲਿਵ ਲਾਗੀ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਸਾਇਆ ॥
haumai maar ek liv laagee antar naam vasaaeaa |
Conquering my egotism, I remain lovingly attuned to the One Lord; the Naam, the Name of the Lord, dwells within me.
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਜਮੁ ਜੋਹਿ ਨ ਸਕੈ ਸਚੈ ਨਾਇ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥
guramatee jam johi na sakai sachai naae samaaeaa |
I follow the Guru's Teachings, and so the Messenger of Death cannot even see me; I am immersed in the True Name.
ਸਭੁ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਵਰਤੈ ਕਰਤਾ ਜੋ ਭਾਵੈ ਸੋ ਨਾਇ ਲਾਇਆ ॥
sabh aape aap varatai karataa jo bhaavai so naae laaeaa |
The Creator Himself is All-pervading; as He pleases, He links us to His Name.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਨਾਉ ਲਏ ਤਾਂ ਜੀਵੈ ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਵੈ ਖਿਨੁ ਮਰਿ ਜਾਇਆ ॥੨੮॥
jan naanak naau le taan jeevai bin naavai khin mar jaaeaa |28|
Servant Nanak lives, chanting the Name. Without the Name, he dies in an instant. ||28||
ਮਨ ਅੰਤਰਿ ਹਉਮੈ ਰੋਗੁ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਭੂਲੇ ਹਉਮੈ ਸਾਕਤ ਦੁਰਜਨਾ ॥
man antar haumai rog bhram bhoole haumai saakat durajanaa |
Within the minds of the faithless cynics is the disease of egotism; these evil people wander around lost, deluded by doubt.
ਨਾਨਕ ਰੋਗੁ ਗਵਾਇ ਮਿਲਿ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਸਾਧੂ ਸਜਣਾ ॥੨੯॥
naanak rog gavaae mil satigur saadhoo sajanaa |29|
O Nanak, this disease is eradicated only by meeting with the True Guru, the Holy Friend. ||29||
ਗੁਰਮਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਹਰਿ ਬੋਲੇ ॥
guramatee har har bole |
Following the Guru's Teachings, chant the Name of the Lord, Har, Har.
ਹਰਿ ਪ੍ਰੇਮਿ ਕਸਾਈ ਦਿਨਸੁ ਰਾਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਰਤੀ ਹਰਿ ਰੰਗਿ ਚੋਲੇ ॥
har prem kasaaee dinas raat har ratee har rang chole |
Attracted by the Lord's Love, day and night, the body-robe is imbued with the Lord's Love.
ਹਰਿ ਜੈਸਾ ਪੁਰਖੁ ਨ ਲਭਈ ਸਭੁ ਦੇਖਿਆ ਜਗਤੁ ਮੈ ਟੋਲੇ ॥
har jaisaa purakh na labhee sabh dekhiaa jagat mai ttole |
I have not found any being like the Lord, although I have searched and looked all over the world.
ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਦਿੜਾਇਆ ਮਨੁ ਅਨਤ ਨ ਕਾਹੂ ਡੋਲੇ ॥
gur satigur naam dirraaeaa man anat na kaahoo ddole |
The Guru, the True Guru, has implanted the Naam within; now, my mind does not waver or wander anywhere else.
ਜਨ ਨਾਨਕੁ ਹਰਿ ਕਾ ਦਾਸੁ ਹੈ ਗੁਰ ਸਤਿਗੁਰ ਕੇ ਗੁਲ ਗੋਲੇ ॥੩੦॥
jan naanak har kaa daas hai gur satigur ke gul gole |30|
Servant Nanak is the slave of the Lord, the slave of the slaves of the Guru, the True Guru. ||30||
