ਅਥ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਅਵਤਾਰ ਬਰਨਨੰ ॥

Now begins the description of Rudra Incarnation:

ਸ੍ਰੀ ਭਗਉਤੀ ਜੀ ਸਹਾਇ ॥

TOTAK STANZA

ਸਬ ਹੀ ਜਨ ਧਰਮ ਕੇ ਕਰਮ ਲਗੇ ॥

sab hee jan dharam ke karam lage |

ਤਜਿ ਜੋਗ ਕੀ ਰੀਤਿ ਕੀ ਪ੍ਰੀਤਿ ਭਗੇ ॥

taj jog kee reet kee preet bhage |

All the people absorbed themselves in the works of Dharma, but the time came when the discipline of Yoga and Bhakti (devotion) was abandoned

ਜਬ ਧਰਮ ਚਲੇ ਤਬ ਜੀਉ ਬਢੇ ॥

jab dharam chale tab jeeo badte |

ਜਨੁ ਕੋਟਿ ਸਰੂਪ ਕੇ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੁ ਗਢੇ ॥੧॥

jan kott saroop ke braham gadte |1|

When the path of Dharma is adopted, all the souls get pleased and practising equality, they visualize One Brahman within all.1.

ਜਗ ਜੀਵਨ ਭਾਰ ਭਰੀ ਧਰਣੀ ॥

jag jeevan bhaar bharee dharanee |

ਦੁਖ ਆਕੁਲ ਜਾਤ ਨਹੀ ਬਰਣੀ ॥

dukh aakul jaat nahee baranee |

This earth was pressed under the lord of sufferings of the people of the world and it was impossible to describe its anguish and agony

ਧਰ ਰੂਪ ਗਊ ਦਧ ਸਿੰਧ ਗਈ ॥

dhar roop gaoo dadh sindh gee |

ਜਗਨਾਇਕ ਪੈ ਦੁਖੁ ਰੋਤ ਭਈ ॥੨॥

jaganaaeik pai dukh rot bhee |2|

Then the earth transformed itself into a cow and weeping bitterly, she reached the milk-ocean before the Non-temporal Lord.2.

ਹਸਿ ਕਾਲ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਨ ਭਏ ਤਬ ਹੀ ॥

has kaal prasan bhe tab hee |

ਦੁਖ ਸ੍ਰਉਨਨ ਭੂਮਿ ਸੁਨਿਯੋ ਜਬ ਹੀ ॥

dukh sraunan bhoom suniyo jab hee |

When the Lord heard with His own ears the sufferings of the earth, then the Destroyer Lord was pleased and laughed

ਢਿਗ ਬਿਸਨੁ ਬੁਲਾਇ ਲਯੋ ਅਪਨੇ ॥

dtig bisan bulaae layo apane |

ਇਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਤਿਹ ਕੋ ਸੁਪਨੇ ॥੩॥

eih bhaat kahiyo tih ko supane |3|

He called Vishnu in His presence and said to him in this way.3.

ਸੁ ਕਹਿਯੋ ਤੁਮ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਸਰੂਪ ਧਰੋ ॥

su kahiyo tum rudr saroop dharo |

ਜਗ ਜੀਵਨ ਕੋ ਚਲਿ ਨਾਸ ਕਰੋ ॥

jag jeevan ko chal naas karo |

The destroyer Lord asked Vishnu to manifest himself as Rudra in order to destroy the beings of the world

ਤਬ ਹੀ ਤਿਹ ਰੁਦ੍ਰ ਸਰੂਪ ਧਰਿਯੋ ॥

tab hee tih rudr saroop dhariyo |

ਜਗ ਜੰਤ ਸੰਘਾਰ ਕੇ ਜੋਗ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥੪॥

jag jant sanghaar ke jog kariyo |4|

Then Vishnu manifested himself as Rudra and destroying the beings of the world, he established Yoga.4.

ਕਹਿ ਹੋਂ ਸਿਵ ਜੈਸਕ ਜੁਧ ਕੀਏ ॥

keh hon siv jaisak judh kee |

ਸੁਖ ਸੰਤਨ ਕੋ ਜਿਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਦੀਏ ॥

sukh santan ko jih bhaat dee |

I shall describe now as to how Shiva waged wars and gave comfort to the saints

ਗਨਿਯੋ ਜਿਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਬਰੀ ਗਿਰਜਾ ॥

ganiyo jih bhaat baree girajaa |

ਜਗਜੀਤ ਸੁਯੰਬਰ ਮੋ ਸੁ ਪ੍ਰਭਾ ॥੫॥

jagajeet suyanbar mo su prabhaa |5|

I shall also tell how he wedded Parbati after conquering her in the Swayyamvara (self-selection of a husband from amongst the suitors).5.

ਜਿਮ ਅੰਧਕ ਸੋ ਹਰਿ ਜੁਧੁ ਕਰਿਯੋ ॥

jim andhak so har judh kariyo |

ਜਿਹ ਭਾਤਿ ਮਨੋਜ ਕੋ ਮਾਨ ਹਰਿਯੋ ॥

jih bhaat manoj ko maan hariyo |

How Shiva waged a war against Andgakasura? How is effaced the pride of Cupid?

ਦਲ ਦੈਤ ਦਲੇ ਕਰ ਕੋਪ ਜਿਮੰ ॥

dal dait dale kar kop jiman |

ਕਹਿਹੋ ਸਬ ਛੋਰਿ ਪ੍ਰਸੰਗ ਤਿਮੰ ॥੬॥

kahiho sab chhor prasang timan |6|
