TOTAK STANZA
ਇਕਿ ਦਿਵਸ ਗਯੋ ਚਟਸਾਰਿ ਨ੍ਰਿਪੰ ॥
eik divas gayo chattasaar nripan |
ਚਿਤਿ ਚੌਕ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਸੁਭਿ ਦੇਖਿ ਸੁਤੰ ॥
chit chauak rahiyo subh dekh sutan |
One day the king went to the school and seeing his son, he was startled.
ਜੋ ਪੜਿਯੋ ਦਿਜ ਤੇ ਸੁਨ ਤਾਹਿ ਰੜੋ ॥
jo parriyo dij te sun taeh rarro |
ਨਿਰਭੈ ਸਿਸੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਪੜੋ ॥੫॥
nirabhai sis naam gupaal parro |5|
When the king asked, the child told whatever he had learnt and fearlessly began to read the Name of Lord-God.5.
ਸੁਨਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਰਿਸ੍ਰਯੋ ਅਸੁਰੰ ॥
sun naam gupaal risrayo asuran |
ਬਿਨੁ ਮੋਹਿ ਸੁ ਕਉਣੁ ਭਜੋ ਦੁਸਰੰ ॥
bin mohi su kaun bhajo dusaran |
On hearing the Name of Lord-God, the demon became furious and said, “Who else is there except me on whom you are meditating?”
ਜੀਯ ਮਾਹਿ ਧਰੋ ਸਿਸੁ ਯਾਹਿ ਹਨੋ ॥
jeey maeh dharo sis yaeh hano |
ਜੜ ਕਿਉ ਭਗਵਾਨ ਕੋ ਨਾਮ ਭਨੋ ॥੬॥
jarr kiau bhagavaan ko naam bhano |6|
He decided to kill this student and said, “O fool why are you repeating the name of Lord-God?”6.
ਜਲ ਅਉਰ ਥਲੰ ਇਕ ਬੀਰ ਮਨੰ ॥
jal aaur thalan ik beer manan |
ਇਹ ਕਾਹਿ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਕੋ ਨਾਮੁ ਭਨੰ ॥
eih kaeh gupaal ko naam bhanan |
“Only Hiranayakashipu is considered the mithty-one in water and on land , then why are you repeating the name of Lord-God”?
ਤਬ ਹੀ ਤਿਹ ਬਾਧਤ ਥੰਮ ਭਏ ॥
tab hee tih baadhat tham bhe |
ਸੁਨਿ ਸ੍ਰਵਨਨ ਦਾਨਵ ਬੈਨ ਧਏ ॥੭॥
sun sravanan daanav bain dhe |7|
Then, as commanded by the king, the demons tied him with the column.7.
ਗਹਿ ਮੂੜ ਚਲੇ ਸਿਸੁ ਮਾਰਨ ਕੋ ॥
geh moorr chale sis maaran ko |
ਨਿਕਸ੍ਰਯੋ ਬ ਗੁਪਾਲ ਉਬਾਰਨ ਕੋ ॥
nikasrayo b gupaal ubaaran ko |
When those foolish persons advanced to kill this student, the Lord manifested Himself at the same time in order to protect His disciple.
ਚਕਚਉਧ ਰਹੇ ਜਨ ਦੇਖਿ ਸਬੈ ॥
chakchaudh rahe jan dekh sabai |
ਨਿਕਸ੍ਰਯੋ ਹਰਿ ਫਾਰਿ ਕਿਵਾਰ ਜਬੈ ॥੮॥
nikasrayo har faar kivaar jabai |8|
Al those who saw the Lord at that time were astonished, the Lord had manifested Himself by tearing off the doors.8
ਲਖਿ ਦੇਵ ਦਿਵਾਰ ਸਬੈ ਥਹਰੇ ॥
lakh dev divaar sabai thahare |
ਅਵਿਲੋਕਿ ਚਰਾਚਰ ਹੂੰਹਿ ਹਿਰੇ ॥
avilok charaachar hoonhi hire |
Seeing Him, all the gods and demons trembled and all the animate and inanimate objects became fearful in their bearts
ਗਰਜੇ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਨਰਾਤ ਕਰੰ ॥
garaje narasingh naraat karan |
ਦ੍ਰਿਗ ਰਤ ਕੀਏ ਮੁਖ ਸ੍ਰੋਣ ਭਰੰ ॥੯॥
drig rat kee mukh sron bharan |9|
The Lord in the form of Narsingh (man-lion), with red eyes and the mouth filled with blood, thundered dreadfully.9.
ਲਖਿ ਦਾਨਵ ਭਾਜ ਚਲੇ ਸਬ ਹੀ ॥
lakh daanav bhaaj chale sab hee |
ਗਰਜਿਯੋ ਨਰਸਿੰਘ ਰਣੰ ਜਬ ਹੀ ॥
garajiyo narasingh ranan jab hee |
Seeing this and hearing the thunder of Narsingh all the demons fled
ਇਕ ਭੂਪਤਿ ਠਾਢਿ ਰਹਿਯੋ ਰਣ ਮੈ ॥
eik bhoopat tthaadt rahiyo ran mai |
ਗਹਿ ਹਾਥਿ ਗਦਾ ਨਿਰਭੈ ਮਨ ਮੈ ॥੧੦॥
geh haath gadaa nirabhai man mai |10|
Only the Emperor, fearlessly holding his mace in his hand, stood firmly in that battlefield.10.
ਲਰਜੇ ਸਬ ਸੂਰ ਨ੍ਰਿਪੰ ਗਰਜੇ ॥
laraje sab soor nripan garaje |
ਸਮੁਹਾਤ ਭਏ ਭਟ ਕੇਹਰਿ ਕੇ ॥
samuhaat bhe bhatt kehar ke |
When the Emperor roared loudly, then all the brave warriors trembled and all those warriors came forward in groups before that lion.
ਜੁ ਗਏ ਸਮੁਹੇ ਛਿਤ ਤੈ ਪਟਕੇ ॥
ju ge samuhe chhit tai pattake |
ਰਣਿ ਭੈ ਰਣਧੀਰ ਬਟਾ ਨਟ ਕੇ ॥੧੧॥
ran bhai ranadheer battaa natt ke |11|
All those who went in front of Narsingh, He caught hold of all those warriors like a juggler and knocked them down of the ground.11.
ਬਬਕੇ ਰਣਧੀਰ ਸੁ ਬੀਰ ਘਣੇ ॥
babake ranadheer su beer ghane |
ਰਹਿਗੇ ਮਨੋ ਕਿੰਸਕ ਸ੍ਰੋਣ ਸਣੇ ॥
rahige mano kinsak sron sane |
The warriors shouted loudly at one another and saturated with blood began to fall.
ਉਮਗੇ ਚਹੂੰ ਓਰਨ ਤੇ ਰਿਪੁ ਯੌ ॥
aumage chahoon oran te rip yau |
ਬਰਸਾਤਿ ਬਹਾਰਨ ਅਭ੍ਰਨ ਜਿਯੋ ॥੧੨॥
barasaat bahaaran abhran jiyo |12|
The enemies advanced from all the four sides with such intensity like the clouds in the rainy season.12.
ਬਰਖੈ ਸਰ ਸੁਧ ਸਿਲਾ ਸਿਤਿਯੰ ॥
barakhai sar sudh silaa sitiyan |
ਉਮਡੇ ਬਰਬੀਰ ਦਸੋ ਦਿਸਿਯੰ ॥
aumadde barabeer daso disiyan |
Advancing from all the ten directions, the warriors began to shower the arrows and stones
ਚਮਕੰਤ ਕ੍ਰਿਪਾਣ ਸੁ ਬਾਣ ਜੁਧੰ ॥
chamakant kripaan su baan judhan |
ਫਹਰੰਤ ਧੁਜਾ ਜਨੁ ਬੀਰ ਕ੍ਰੁਧੰ ॥੧੩॥
faharant dhujaa jan beer krudhan |13|
The swords and arrows glistened in the war-field and the brave fighters began to flutter their flags.13.
ਹਹਰੰਤ ਹਠੀ ਬਰਖੰਤ ਸਰੰ ॥
haharant hatthee barakhant saran |
The persistent warriors with loud shouts are showering a volley of arrows in this way,
ਜਨੁ ਸਾਵਨ ਮੇਘ ਬੁਠਿਯੋ ਦੁਸਰੰ ॥
jan saavan megh butthiyo dusaran |
As if it is the second cloudburst in the mont of Swan
ਫਰਹੰਤ ਧੁਜਾ ਹਹਰੰਤ ਹਯੰ ॥
farahant dhujaa haharant hayan |
The flags are fluttering and the horses are neighing
ਉਪਜਿਯੋ ਜੀਅ ਦਾਨਵ ਰਾਇ ਭਯੰ ॥੧੪॥
aupajiyo jeea daanav raae bhayan |14|
And seeing all this scene, the heart of the demon-king was filled with fear.14.
ਹਿਹਨਾਤ ਹਯੰ ਗਰਜੰਤ ਗਜੰ ॥
hihanaat hayan garajant gajan |
The horses are neighing and the elephants are roaring
ਭਟ ਬਾਹ ਕਟੀ ਜਨੁ ਇੰਦ੍ਰ ਧੁਜੰ ॥
bhatt baah kattee jan indr dhujan |
The chopped long arms of the warriors look like the flag of Indra
ਤਰਫੰਤ ਭਟੰ ਗਰਜੰ ਗਜੰ ॥
tarafant bhattan garajan gajan |
The warriors are writhing and the elephants are roaring in such a way,
ਸੁਨ ਕੈ ਧੁਨਿ ਸਾਵਣ ਮੇਘ ਲਜੰ ॥੧੫॥
sun kai dhun saavan megh lajan |15|
That the clouds of the month of Sawan are feeling shy.15.
ਬਿਚਲ੍ਰਯੋ ਪਗ ਦ੍ਵੈਕੁ ਫਿਰਿਯੋ ਪੁਨਿ ਜਿਯੋ ॥
bichalrayo pag dvaik firiyo pun jiyo |
As soon as the horse of Hiranayakashipu turned a little, he himself deviated and retraced two steps
ਕਰਿ ਪੁੰਛ ਲਗੇ ਅਹਿ ਕ੍ਰੁਧਤ ਜਿਯੋ ॥
kar punchh lage eh krudhat jiyo |
But still he was infuriated in the manner of the snake who gets infuriated when its tail is crushed by a foot
ਰਣਰੰਗ ਸਮੈ ਮੁਖ ਯੋ ਚਮਕ︀ਯੋ ॥
ranarang samai mukh yo chamakayo |
His face was shining in the battlefield,
ਲਖਿ ਸੂਰ ਸਰੋਰਹੁ ਸੋ ਦਮਕ੍ਰਯੋ ॥੧੬॥
lakh soor sarorahu so damakrayo |16|
Like the blossoming of the lotus on seeing the sun.16.
ਰਣ ਰੰਗ ਤੁਰੰਗਨ ਐਸ ਭਯੋ ॥
ran rang turangan ais bhayo |
ਸਿਵ ਧਿਆਨ ਛੁਟ੍ਰਯੋ ਬ੍ਰਹਮੰਡ ਗਿਰਿਯੋ ॥
siv dhiaan chhuttrayo brahamandd giriyo |
The horses are moving in so much intoxication and creating noise that the attention of Shiva was dissolved, And it seemed that the universe had been displaced
ਸਰ ਸੇਲ ਸਿਲਾ ਸਿਤ ਐਸ ਬਹੇ ॥
sar sel silaa sit ais bahe |
ਨਭ ਅਉਰ ਧਰਾ ਦੋਊ ਪੂਰਿ ਰਹੇ ॥੧੭॥
nabh aaur dharaa doaoo poor rahe |17|
The arrows, daggers and stones were flying and filling both the earth and the sky.17.
ਗਣ ਗੰਧ੍ਰਬ ਦੇਖਿ ਦੋਊ ਹਰਖੇ ॥
gan gandhrab dekh doaoo harakhe |
ਪੁਹਪਾਵਲਿ ਦੇਵ ਸਭੈ ਬਰਖੇ ॥
puhapaaval dev sabhai barakhe |
The Ganas and Gandharvas, seeing both, were pleased and the gods showered flowers.
ਮਿਲ ਗੇ ਭਟ ਆਪ ਬਿਖੈ ਦੋਊ ਯੋ ॥
mil ge bhatt aap bikhai doaoo yo |
ਸਿਸ ਖੇਲਤ ਰੈਣਿ ਹੁਡੂਹੁਡ ਜਿਯੋ ॥੧੮॥
sis khelat rain huddoohudd jiyo |18|
Two warriors were fighting with each other like the children competing with one another in their play during the night.18.
