ਬਸੰਤੁ ਮਹਲਾ ੩ ॥

Basant, Third Mehl:

ਗੁਰਸਬਦੀ ਹਰਿ ਚੇਤਿ ਸੁਭਾਇ ॥

gurasabadee har chet subhaae |

Through the Word of the Guru's Shabad, remember the Lord with love,

ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮ ਰਸਿ ਰਹੈ ਅਘਾਇ ॥

raam naam ras rahai aghaae |

and you shall remain satisfied by the sublime essence of the Lord's Name.

ਕੋਟ ਕੋਟੰਤਰ ਕੇ ਪਾਪ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਹਿ ॥

kott kottantar ke paap jal jaeh |

The sins of millions upon millions of lifetimes shall be burnt away.

ਜੀਵਤ ਮਰਹਿ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮਿ ਸਮਾਹਿ ॥੧॥

jeevat mareh har naam samaeh |1|

Remaining dead while yet alive, you shall be absorbed in the Lord's Name. ||1||

ਹਰਿ ਕੀ ਦਾਤਿ ਹਰਿ ਜੀਉ ਜਾਣੈ ॥

har kee daat har jeeo jaanai |

The Dear Lord Himself knows His own bountiful blessings.

ਗੁਰ ਕੈ ਸਬਦਿ ਇਹੁ ਮਨੁ ਮਉਲਿਆ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣਦਾਤਾ ਨਾਮੁ ਵਖਾਣੈ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

gur kai sabad ihu man mauliaa har gunadaataa naam vakhaanai |1| rahaau |

This mind blossoms forth in the Guru's Shabad, chanting the Name of the Lord, the Giver of virtue. ||1||Pause||

ਭਗਵੈ ਵੇਸਿ ਭ੍ਰਮਿ ਮੁਕਤਿ ਨ ਹੋਇ ॥

bhagavai ves bhram mukat na hoe |

No one is liberated by wandering around in saffron-colored robes.

ਬਹੁ ਸੰਜਮਿ ਸਾਂਤਿ ਨ ਪਾਵੈ ਕੋਇ ॥

bahu sanjam saant na paavai koe |

Tranquility is not found by strict self-discipline.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਹੋਇ ॥

guramat naam paraapat hoe |

But by following the Guru's Teachings, one is blessed to receive the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਪਾਵੈ ਸੋਇ ॥੨॥

vaddabhaagee har paavai soe |2|

By great good fortune, one finds the Lord. ||2||

ਕਲਿ ਮਹਿ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਵਡਿਆਈ ॥

kal meh raam naam vaddiaaee |

In this Dark Age of Kali Yuga, glorious greatness comes through the Lord's Name.

ਗੁਰ ਪੂਰੇ ਤੇ ਪਾਇਆ ਜਾਈ ॥

gur poore te paaeaa jaaee |

Through the Perfect Guru, it is obtained.

ਨਾਮਿ ਰਤੇ ਸਦਾ ਸੁਖੁ ਪਾਈ ॥

naam rate sadaa sukh paaee |

Those who are imbued with the Naam find everlasting peace.

ਬਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੈ ਹਉਮੈ ਜਲਿ ਜਾਈ ॥੩॥

bin naamai haumai jal jaaee |3|

But without the Naam, mortals burn in egotism. ||3||

ਵਡਭਾਗੀ ਹਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਬੀਚਾਰਾ ॥

vaddabhaagee har naam beechaaraa |

By great good furtune, some contemplate the Lord's Name.

ਛੂਟੈ ਰਾਮ ਨਾਮਿ ਦੁਖੁ ਸਾਰਾ ॥

chhoottai raam naam dukh saaraa |

Through the Lord's Name, all sorrows are eradicated.

ਹਿਰਦੈ ਵਸਿਆ ਸੁ ਬਾਹਰਿ ਪਾਸਾਰਾ ॥

hiradai vasiaa su baahar paasaaraa |

He dwells within the heart, and pervades the external universe as well.

ਨਾਨਕ ਜਾਣੈ ਸਭੁ ਉਪਾਵਣਹਾਰਾ ॥੪॥੧੨॥

naanak jaanai sabh upaavanahaaraa |4|12|

O Nanak, the Creator Lord knows all. ||4||12||
