ਆਸਾ ਮਹਲਾ ੪ ॥

aasaa mahalaa 4 |

Aasaa, Fourth Mehl:

ਜਨਮੁ ਪਦਾਰਥੁ ਪਾਇ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇਆ ॥

janam padaarath paae naam dhiaaeaa |

Having obtained the treasure of this human birth, I meditate on the Naam, the Name of the Lord.

ਗੁਰ ਪਰਸਾਦੀ ਬੁਝਿ ਸਚਿ ਸਮਾਇਆ ॥੧॥

gur parasaadee bujh sach samaaeaa |1|

By Guru's Grace, I understand, and I am absorbed into the True Lord. ||1||

ਜਿਨੑ ਧੁਰਿ ਲਿਖਿਆ ਲੇਖੁ ਤਿਨੑੀ ਨਾਮੁ ਕਮਾਇਆ ॥

jina dhur likhiaa lekh tinaee naam kamaaeaa |

Those who have such pre-ordained destiny practice the Naam.

ਦਰਿ ਸਚੈ ਸਚਿਆਰ ਮਹਲਿ ਬੁਲਾਇਆ ॥੧॥ ਰਹਾਉ ॥

dar sachai sachiaar mehal bulaaeaa |1| rahaau |

The True Lord summons the truthful to the Mansion of His Presence. ||1||Pause||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਨਾਮੁ ਨਿਧਾਨੁ ਗੁਰਮੁਖਿ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

antar naam nidhaan guramukh paaeeai |

Deep within is the treasure of the Naam; it is obtained by the Gurmukh.

ਅਨਦਿਨੁ ਨਾਮੁ ਧਿਆਇ ਹਰਿ ਗੁਣ ਗਾਈਐ ॥੨॥

anadin naam dhiaae har gun gaaeeai |2|

Night and day, meditate on the Naam, and sing the Glorious Praises of the Lord. ||2||

ਅੰਤਰਿ ਵਸਤੁ ਅਨੇਕ ਮਨਮੁਖਿ ਨਹੀ ਪਾਈਐ ॥

antar vasat anek manamukh nahee paaeeai |

Deep within are infinite substances, but the self-willed manmukh does not find them.

ਹਉਮੈ ਗਰਬੈ ਗਰਬੁ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਈਐ ॥੩॥

haumai garabai garab aap khuaaeeai |3|

In egotism and pride, the mortal's proud self consumes him. ||3||

ਨਾਨਕ ਆਪੇ ਆਪਿ ਆਪਿ ਖੁਆਈਐ ॥

naanak aape aap aap khuaaeeai |

O Nanak, his identity consumes his identical identity.

ਗੁਰਮਤਿ ਮਨਿ ਪਰਗਾਸੁ ਸਚਾ ਪਾਈਐ ॥੪॥੧੩॥੬੫॥

guramat man paragaas sachaa paaeeai |4|13|65|

Through the Guru's Teachings, the mind is illumined, and meets the True Lord. ||4||13||65||
